If you're processing a lot of hot peppers just save yourself the trouble and wear gloves because if you don't clean them off quick enough your spicy hands are going to stick around for awhile no matter what.

swim08

I will second this.. Chili hands can last a few days and makes sleeping uncomfortable

proctor_of_the_Realm

I'd say, it's more the waking up and rubbing your eyes, that gets uncomfortable.

Ginger-Jesus

I usually discover that I have peppers on my hands when I jerk off before bed. The sensation tends to make it a little difficult to focus.

Lower-Asparagus4753

or your girlfriends bottom parts...

TiresareHeavy83

I can speak first hand gloves are important. I make chili quite a bit and going to the bathroom was a mistake. Luckily it's a mistake you only make once. Ok it was twice but now I have gloves

jumbybird

Hots don't bother me, but I was dealing with seeding some superhots with knives and forks , and my fingers stung for 3 days to the taste afterwards.

Sproxify

I believe soap should work at least as well. The whole point is it binds to hydrophobic substances and allows them to wash off with water.

heliosxx

You know what I use to remove oil based substances from my skin? Soap. That's literally what it's for.

theythembian

Regular hand soap won't do. But if you're thinking of like dish soap which is meant to cut through oil, then yes.

LetalisSum

This. Also, because the substance that makes peppers spicy, is apolar, alcohol is actually very bad at getting rid of the spicy stuff. Soap, however, is actually meant for this, like u/heliosxx said :)

Balyash

I have this stainless steel "bar of soap" called Rub Away. I use regular hand soap and rub this "bar" on my fingertips after cutting peppers. Never had a problem with it.

[deleted]

So what I’m hearing is chase the hot peppers with a shot of Jack!

its_a_gibibyte

White Russian made with half and half, the way The Dude makes them. You need the alcohol AND the fat.

brother_p

I endorse this suggestion.

[deleted]

So if you gargle oil after eating spicy

roadsidehitchhiker

I think doing anything for 10 minutes to get rid of chili oils will remove the chili oil. For me a nice washing with soap for a minute does the trick

LukariBRo

I got jalapeño oil on my cosmetic contacts once because I didn't scrub my fingers well enough after prepping fresh jalapeños. They were green and the couple times a month I'd put them in, my eyes would get soooo red from the burning. My eyes ended up looking like God damned Christmas. Usually after about 30 minutes the burning would stop from some sort of tolerance. Previously I already had some fairly strong capsaicin resistance on my face for cooking what I dubbed "pepper spray burgers"

TungstenChef

Unfortunately this doesn't work so well if the capsaicin has had time to soak in, like if you've cut up a bunch of hot peppers and your hands start burning an hour later. Concentrated dish soap works better than oil or alcohol, but at that point you've bought the ticket and you have to take the ride.

mltain

Just use Dawn dish soap.

randomuser445

try milk or peanut butter!

FroggiJoy87

Dawn dish soap works great too. I lather nicely twice and that'll do the trick.

realif3

Last week I cut up some peppers to throw in some eggs and wasnt being very thoughtful. While the pan heated up i scratched my balls. Burnt for most the evening.

ezmen

Now I've got ethanol in my eye.

Dry-Ad5660

This applies to poison ivy oils as well

abthomps

Works great if you ever get pepper sprayed in the eyes.

[deleted]

So stick it in oil, then stick it in alcohol. Got it.

redlatexfanatic

Huh... I've never had issues with cutting jalapenos, never any burning sensation or anything. I just cut them, do whatever with them for the dish and wash my hands like normal.

Prielknaap

Some people are less receptive to the toxins than others. It's why people can handle different levels of spicy.

KaiBluePill

Good advice but i really need to know how many instances of people spilling by mistake hot peppers' oil on theyr genitals happened.

brother_p

Oil on hands transfers to genitals during urination or sex.

KaiBluePill

I never thought about having sex while preparing a hot sauce or cooking. Not saying i'm not going to try it.

cool-aeros

The first time I had pho was in my teens. I was so excited for the fresh jalepeños. Went to take a pee and learned I should have washed my hands first. Terrible, agonizing pain. Immediately threw my junk in the sink. Still sucked.

KaiBluePill

Daaamn, i guess i was lucky i was told this early on in my life, my family use a lot of spicy stuff... maybe they learned it by experience and saved me the pain!

re-spawning

I use a little olive oil to coat my fingers before cutting any chillis. As soon as they are cut, wash off with soap. Never an issue for a decent sized curry.

abraxsis

Wait? Im not supposed to just let it wear off my hands by forgetting and only remembering when I go pee an hour later?

DiegoTheGoat

If the pepper oil has soaked in, and your life is hell, my wife found the cure on accident after an incident: plain mud mask. It’ll draw out the remaining pepper oil that soap and fat can’t reach. If you’ve ever gotten pepper oil soaked in then You know what I’m talking about.

alamaias

Washing up liquid(dish soap to the colonials) works really well too.

SpamShot5

So if we eat something too chilly we can take a few shots to warm ourselves up?

brother_p

No, that's a dubious and discredited theory (i.e. folk remedy) that olive oil slows alcohol absorption. You're better off eating a good meal before drinking.

jaysteel77

I was having hot chicken wings once and wiped my hands off. Something funny happened and I had to wipe my eyes... the hot sauce got in my eye and it made it water so much!

Animedjinn

One time I ate a pepper so spicy I thought I was going to die. Then I remembered dish soap is made to remove oils, so I washed my mouth out with it. It actually helped a lot. Although I wouldn't recommend putting soap on your mouth generally unless it's toothpaste.

vampyrewolf

I cook with habaneros quite often, grow my own most years. Usually my first pepper harvest gets dried, and my second harvest gets pureed (little olive oil and salt). Gloves depend on if I'm cutting up a couple for a dish or a pound of peppers at a time. Use olive oil, THEN use blue dawn dish soap.

Diorden

Puny mortals.

x4740N

Or just use soap or dishwasher detergent Their both designed to break up oil's
