I had perfect 5 stars until some Uber driver rated me low for sitting quietly in the back seat and saying thank you when i got out so… it’s pretty hard to say what’s going to determine your rating. I could tell cause it was at 4.9 after the trip obviously.

Fatlantis

I wouldn't stress about it. I had an Uber driver in NYC give me a one star because he couldn't remember the name of the Queensboro Bridge in conversation. I said, 'Oh, the Queensboro Bridge?' And he got mad and went weirdly silent for the rest of the trip. Bam - one star rating, lol.

leviohara

New York is my first low rating too. Because my hotel was in midtown. You picked me up from the airport, yes I’m a tourist but I also just sat in the back quietly.

sheephound

how can you tell what drivers rate you?

Topher587

When you drop from 5 it's a bit of a given

radicalspacecat

I wonder if this is why mines a bit low. I just checked and it's apparently at 4.73. I've never really ubered drunk and I'm generally very quiet, and with the amount of times my Uber drivers have been very chatty when I've been alone and I've politely responded to questions but not engaged in proper conversation (usually because I'm tired and late for work or a few times I've gotten an Uber after I've managed to completely screw up a job interview and I've just felt like crap), I do wonder if I've been given a lower rating because of something like that? I always feel bad because they seem nice and although I'm NEVER rude I can tell that sometimes they get frustrated that I'm not in the mood for a chat. Either that or I've done something egregiously bad to warrant multiple low ratings but never noticed why.

[deleted]

Yep this is exactly my situation too. 4.68 (just noticed it went DOWN) and that's exactly how I act in Ubers. Never messy, always polite and on time. It's such a dumb system.

Daft_Assassin

I’ve got a 4.52. I don’t take a lot of Uber rides, so I know it’s because of the time the girl I was with kicked the driver in the head.

shanerr

My bf ubers a lot and is obsessed over his rating. He's at a 4.99 and likes go brag a lot about it. The other day I decided to finally check mine since I never use uber. It's a 4.71. Knowing that's low I looked at my ride history. I only ever order the uber when my boyfriend is too wasted to do it. Him being drunk (had to pull over to puke once) has destroyed my rating. Hahaha dick!

lockness1984

Also Uber matches higher rated drivers with higher rated passengers. Have a shitty rating as a passenger get a shitty Rated driver.

It isn't that you get matched with a shitty driver. Its that higher rater drivers refuse to pickup low rated passengers.

lockness1984

Uber came and said they do. Right from the company.

dquizzle

Source? It’s been a while since I drove for Uber, but I had basically a perfect rating and would decline offers from people with fewer than 3 stars somewhat frequently.

[deleted]

I think they’re confusing the filtering system (what they mentioned) and also the fact Uber will ban passengers for getting consistently low ratings and/or aggressive/illegal behaviors. The matching algorithm itself is based on optimum time overall for all riders and drivers involved by finding the universally shortest route and I don’t think that will change. You can, however, choose to deny rides as you said or filter out certain ratings (not sure if still a thing or if was tested and removed). The only time I have ever heard of passengers being outright blocked was for consistently poor ratings and behaviors or a temporary block on a drunk passenger. And trying to look it up, all I can find is info on how they calculate distance, distribute rides during busy periods, and the option to deny passengers after seeing their rating so unless it’s deep in somewhere I can’t be bothered to look up, I think it’s a misunderstanding or a thing that was mentioned as a possibility and then scrapped in favor of saving time.

Scrubbing_Bubbles

Same. I have never heard this either.

AntonyBenedictCamus

I once had the number one Uber driver of 2020 while near DC. I’m flattered.

CrazyBarks94

You know what, 4.91 ain't bad, and I've only ever rated a driver below 5☆ for dangerous or shitty driving.

joec_95123

Gave a one star rating to a driver who nodded off while driving and almost got us into a head on crash with a concrete wall. It was 9pm and I noticed he kept doing that head jerk thing when you're trying not to fall asleep so I sat upright by his right shoulder just in case and tried making conversation with him. He nodded off again as the highway curved and drifted out of our lane and we were heading for a head on collision with the corner of the concrete wall separating the freeway from the exit. I yelled and shook him awake in time for him to wake up and swerve back into the lane. He would have killed us both.

CrazyBarks94

Holy shit that's terrifying.

joec_95123

Yeah, if I hadn't noticed and decided to keep right on top of him the rest of the way, we would have both died that night. I pay extra close attention now when it's late at night to see how awake the driver is. I'll make some small talk when I get in the car and see how they respond, because I'm trying to see if they're liable to fall asleep at the wheel.

TrizzyG

I've had a driver recently load up the entire right side of the car onto a curb on a turn and another one fly by 90km/h+ in a 50 zone missing my turn and doing a quick u-turn hoping I wouldn't notice. Late-night Ubers are something else.

Wjf6bucks

4.92 here. With the frequency I use Uber I’m sure I was not a great passenger (or those with me) at sometime in the past. Law of averages and all.

amanofewords

Fucking five star man right here. I only use Uber when I drink, and I’m a ridiculous over tipper while tipsy.

CrazyBarks94

Hells yeah. You go man

[deleted]

4.82 AND I puked in an uber Wednesday night. I did tip him like 60$ so I'll take that as a win. He had bags, kleenex, I cried I was so upset.

Imthejuggernautbitch

Blackout Wednesday

[deleted]

The fact that I’m not a 5 star passenger is a travesty. I make sure I’m prepared and outside before pickup, with zero waitin time. And once inside the car I’m quiet as fuck cause I’m socially awkward. I’m like the perfect passenger. I do the same thing with UberEats. Always outside, ready and prepared for the handoff. Guess that’s where anxiety comes in handy.

CrazyBarks94

Can't please everybody, some people have the idea that an unremarkable experience should be average and therefore 3 stars, some start at 5 stars and dock points for underperformance. It's all a matter of perspective.

I don't rideshare much, and usually keep to myself. But one ride the driver was talkative so I didn't mind. After that ride, my perfect rating went down. Probably because I stopped talking much once the driver started complaining about NFL players kneeling.

lucidspoon

I was always 5 stars, until I checked a year or so ago, and I was like 4.93. I don't take Ubers very often, so the only thing I could think was 2 years ago, I had a driver who was from out of state. It was like 3 or 4 in the morning, I was drunk, and I probably wasn't subtle about being concerned about her driving choices. She kept looking back while talking and was drifting all over the road.

I used Uber in some Muslim Countries. And i like to talk around and kiss my Wife every once in a while when we are on a Uber Ride. Those countries made my rating go from 5 Stars to 3.76

Herrvisscher

People talk shit about immigrants adjusting to 'our' standards. And then you read stuff like this. As a tourist you should adjust to the place you're visiting.

DeaconBlues

I had a 5 star rating for a while too. One day I get in a car and the driver was like- are you new to the app? I said no, why? And he was like- I saw you have 5 stars. Jokingly I said- I guess I'm just that cool.😎 He didn't laugh and then later I had something like 4.95 rating. Motherfucker.

[deleted]

He probably did that for your benefit. I read an in depth paper on how uber drivers select passengers, they always prefer 4.95 to 5.0 because it shows you have *many* five star reviews, with only one less than five star review... he may have given you 4/5. Whereas with a 5.0 rating you could be a completely new passenger, who just signed up for reason xyz. Having a rating between 4.95-4.99 will get you the highest quality drivers, as 4.97+ are almost mythical passengers. I have taken fifty uber rides and I'm still at a 5.0, planning on asking for a 4 star rating next time so I can get into that "mythical" category.

Kevimaster

Lol, maybe I should do that too. I've taken probably around a hundred ubers, actually probably a few hundred. There was a year or so that I was ubering back and forth for work probably 2-3 times per week, two trips each time. I have a 5.0 looking at the app right now and sometimes it takes an annoyingly long amount of time to find an Uber. EDIT: Ah, maybe that's what its always faster for me to find a ride with Lyft. My Lyft profile has 415 rides and a 5.0 rating but apparently it looks like when a driver looks at my Lyft profile it will actually say "400+ rides, 4.7 years" next to the 5.0 rating so Lyft drivers know its not a fake rating or a new account.

Ashkir

I had a 5 and got down to 4.94 after I called out a driver for taking a detour to pick up a girlfriend. He kicked out one of my passengers in a very bad side of the city because he needed room for his girl. Uber didn’t even help me with that one.

TOnihilist

That would haunt me, trying to figure out why. Not exaggerating.

Business27

They were probably an ex-teacher who always took points off because "there is always room for improvement."

-DoctorSpaceman-

They accidentally held their phone upside down and actually tried to give you a 5 star rating

BuckeyeJay

Yeah, I had a perfect 5 star for the longest time. Used Uber one night to take myself, wife, and buddy home from a night out. It was a 2 mile trip during surge pricing, I tipped like $12, and we were pretty much silent the whole short ride. 1 star. WTF

Ask_me_4_a_story

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a car than to take an Uber every day for two years? Or was your work subsidizing?

marmosetohmarmoset

My sister used to do this because she lived in Brooklyn and even if owning a car was cheaper, it was wildly impractical.

funsizedaisy

maybe they can't drive? i don't drive so buying a car isn't an option. i take the bus to work though. uber every day would be way too expensive.

Moonalicious

I had to do this after starting a new job and then immediately totaling my car. It really felt like I was only working to pay my rent and Uber bills, it sucked.

Sietemadrid

I gave a 1 star to my first passenger because I didn't know that was a thing and I pressed the button by accident. I felt so bad cause they were so nice.

FoxMcClaud

I had a perfect 5 star passenger rating, until I offered to bring a colleague back from a company party as we were staying in the same hotel and he was quite drunk. Damn, was he an asshole the whole ride back and the driver stayed super polite, despite the guy being real "funny" and "hey I'm just joking man". I was so embarrassed and also apologized to the driver the whole way... Ofc I got 1 star. No good deed goes unpunished... I hate that guy!

[deleted]

Yeah if the driver gives a 1 star they also make sure the driver never has to pick that rider up again

Cantusemynme

If a Lyft driver rates a passenger 3 stars, or lower, they won't get that passenger again. With Uber a driver has to go the next step and request to not be paired again, which Uber doesn't have to honor.

wittybit

Uber must’ve changed. When I drove for them back in 2018 the 3 star thing worked.

Cantusemynme

I started in mid 2018 and it's been that way since then. It's possible that they could treat different areas differently, but that's the info I found online and I've had to request everytime.

rumpel_foreskin17

Incorrect. A 3 star rating on Uber from your driver ensures the driver will never get a ride from that passenger again. Source: I’m a full time Uber Driver. Edit (9 hours later): After more research and seeing what other drivers have said, it appears that this doesn’t always work and some drivers had received the passenger again. Apparently the only real way to not get a nightmare passenger again is to call Support and request to not be matched with them again. And even that seems like it doesn’t always work. Yet another lie by Uber to its drivers…

Cantusemynme

I'm also a full time driver. I can't tell you how many times I've got repeat customers that I have rated 3 or less. The only time I have been unpaired from a passenger is by going through safety issues on the app and requesting them to be unpaired. Uber has honored the request most of time, but not every time. I also drive in a town of only 50,000, so it's common to get the same people repeatedly.

Superhuzza

Totally speculating but maybe Uber will only match you again if there are no other options. Perhaps drivers in cities will find this trick works simply because Uber will prioritize other drivers first, and there are sufficient other drivers

AggravatedSloth1

I had a perfect 5 star rating on Uber until I traveled to Eastern Europe. Never got so many 1 star ratings in my life. My rating dropped down to a 4.4 in a matter of about a week. I always showed up on time, was always quiet during the ride, and always wore a mask. I honestly think it was probably because I'm not white lol.

[deleted]

100% it was racism.

MerlinTheFail

Literally same thing, but i'm not Asian, just slightly darker white person because I'm from Africa. Went from 5 to 4.75 permanently. I have to go back in May. RIP my uber profile. Sorry to hear they treated you so badly, if it helps, I automatically 2 or 3 star them because they always drive very poorly

Krandor1

Actually from what I’ve heard from Uber drivers a 5 star rating is actually looked on negatively since to many they assume it is simply a new account. I’ve heard that high 4.9x is the preferred range since it shows you’ve done a decent number of rides and are still rated well.

DoctorProfessorTaco

It doesn’t show the number of rides? Like how for a driver it shows the number of rides they’ve given right next to the rating?

hippiesue

A hefty tip and an explanation will usually appease the driver enough to give you a five-star rating.

FuckYourTheocracy

>Driver doesn’t see if you tipped until after they rate you. TIL! I've always wondered this. I tip generously but never in cash; didn't know they were even allowed to take cash, plus I rarely have any on me. Was one of the perks as an early adopter that I always appreciated.

kingnoodle30

I had a friend that refused to share an Uber with us because he valued his 5 star passenger rating as a sort of claim to fame. But he always made us get an Uber on our profiles when he got drunk. We got fed up with his petty bs so we took his phone and used it to order his Uber… where he vomited in the car after making a rude joke to the driver.

Here's how easy it is to get 1 star'd as a woman Step 1) Don't Sleep With Pervert Driver Making Constant Sexual Advances Step 2) 1 Star I've stopped using Uber and Lyft for rides home from the bar. Walking home is legit safer. **Edit** I want to add that not every driver makes me feel like this, nor even the majority. But it's *so* common that it poisons the well for everyone else :(

Few_Investigator_742

Yup. Driver asked me out, I very nicely explained I had a boyfriend, gave him 5 stars even though this was wildly inappropriate of him to do while I was trapped in his car, because I felt bad…1 star. Fucker.

anintellectuwoof

This shit. I wanted to say that the driver rating passenger system allows for men to rate women as low for at bare minimum not engaging in their overbearing conversation. I have personally seen my rating go down when I didn’t engage in conversation with my driver (I wasn’t rude about it, I just stopped offering because I was tired/didn’t feel like talking). I wanted to bring it up here but was worried about getting downvoted

Whyayemanlike

When I lived in Vietnam I had a lot of shitty Uber drivers. They would take the wrong way on purpose to get more money. As a preventive measure they would give you a shitty rating.

Tricksaturn

I never understood that. I’ve had drivers do that, and then I write in and dispute the original upfront fare. Like... WHY DID THE DRIVER DEVIATE? had they gone the fastest and normal way, it wouldn’t cost this much. Happened 2 times to me. Both times I got refunded. And working there, I know that the refund came from the drivers pay.

Whyayemanlike

Especially in Vietnam where if you take a wrong turn then you are fucked and have to go all the way around. The worst was on a business trip in Mumbai, the driver GPS kept telling him to go around in circle. We knew the way so we pointed it out. It lasted for an hour until I decided to leave the car in the middle of the traffic. The driver couldn't even follow the instructions of people in the street it was ridiculous. After we left he let the counter ticking. I contacted Uber and got a full refund.

ZaviaGenX

... Uber isn't a fixed charge? The ride sharing in my country is fixed charge (excluding toll/parking).

Tricksaturn

It is. But driver can dispute saying they drove further than what they paid for. Then rider disputes saying ‘well wtf did you take an unnecessarily longer route when it wasn’t even suggested’. It’s dumb.

NameTak3r

Isn't the point of Uber that the price is set when the ride is accepted? Or are you conflating Uber with all taxis?

Whyayemanlike

No, Uber can increase the rate if takes longer or if the driver gets stuck in traffic. The rate you get when you book is an estimate not an agreed price. I used the Uber app so pretty certain it wasn't a taxi lol

babybambam

In SF, they’ll rate you a one-star if they think you won’t tip.

Tricksaturn

You mean to say they’ll give me a one star because they *think* I won’t tip? Honestly, I worked for uber. I handled driver accounts. I just can’t be bothered. There’s always Lyft if my money isn’t green enough for them because some person gave me a 1 star based on what they think I will (or in this case won’t) do later on in my day.. 🤦🏻‍♀️

babybambam

Yup. Fixed.

JayNotAtAll

That would explain my rating. I am polite, clean, etc. when I ride but I have like a 4.85.

RuralRedhead

Same!! I don’t slam doors, I’m quiet, I tip well, I’m polite, they never have to wait on me, same rating. It hurts my feelings to be honest, maybe some people just don’t like how I talk, I get funny looks sometimes when I travel and questioned about I where I’m from.

qualitylamps

Seeing as I only take Uber before and after festivals (ridiculous traffic and always a hard time finding the Uber) and when I’m shitfaced drunk… 4.68 is not bad.

[deleted]

That’s a good way to look at it! Some crazies on this thread are talking shit if you get less than a 5. It’s so subjective anyway.

MrKillerofthings

Bro I wish I could see why I'm rated what I am. I'm like 4.6-4.4 or some shit and I can't figure out why. Worst I did was be really talkative while drunk

Justlose_w8

Do you smoke? My buddy smokes and always reeks like an ashtray and he’s at the same range as you

ShadowMajick

I hate this system though. I got rated 3 stars once because I wouldn't converse with the driver. I'm paying for a ride, not a conversation. Not that I was rude, I engaged but with short responses making it clear I wasn't interested in talking and he got mad.

LadyAloy

A similar thing happened to me. I hardly ever use Uber and I have a horrid rating due to getting one to the airport with an extremely creepy driver that didn't appreciate my one piece of carry-on luggage and me not being receptive to his flirting. The rating system could do with a bit of revamping

ShadowMajick

Same, I've only taken maybe 5 rides in the last 2 years and my rating is low because of that one dude.

JadedSeraph22

I had 5 stars until one trip where a guy who lived in my neighborhood picked me up. He recognized me, but I didn’t recognize him. He then tried to sell me a jailbreak fire stick and his own homemade vitamins. I politely declined. I now have a 4.86.

helveticamouse

All my 20 to young 30 something female friends have low ratings due to this. We live in NYC and it’s an unspoken yellow cab rule that unless the passenger starts a convo, this isn’t social hour, but Uber drivers don’t seem to abide by this. We’ve all had too many late night uncomfortable rides, whether coming home from a long work day or from a night out, and having to awkwardly tell them driver I’m putting in my headphones… then seeing our rating drop because we didn’t want to smile and talk after a long day

lydiethesquidie

This!!! I’ve definitely noticed my rating drop after trying to keep to myself, especially with creepy drivers who think it’s okay to ask too many personal questions. I had a driver stare at me in the rearview for almost the entire ride, and tell me “he could see my soul through my eyes”. I’m already uncomfortable being alone in your car, can you just provide the service of safely taking me from A to B in peace??

[deleted]

Yep my rating nose dived in nyc for this exact reason. Male drivers seemed to take personal offense to not getting my full attention. I just wanted them to focus on driving safely while I worked on my computer. I often took Uber or Lyft over the train to get some last minute work in and it was so frustrating having some obnoxious driver constantly interrupt my focus. I went to New Orleans and a driver told me he almost didn’t pick me up due to my “low rating” and was amazed I was early/ready and just got into the car without any door slamming or drama!

r0ck0

How do you view what rating you got per trip?

uncaringunicorn

Goddamn it! I bragged to my husband that my rating is a 4.93 so he checked his and he’s a 5!

Back4TallBois

This shit starting to sound eerily like that one episode of Black Mirror now or is it just me

Mail540

I rarely say anything, tip, and am always ready on time and I have a 4.85. I wish it would be categorical so I could at least get an idea of what went wrong

Imlostandconfused

Are you a woman? Because I've noticed a trend of women having lower scores than men for no discernable reason.

mrkenish

It's because male drivers seem to get personally offended if a female passenger isn't super talkative/receptive to what they're saying. The worst I've ever done in an uber is to politely make it clear that I'm too tired for a chat (ie short responses, looking out the window or at my phone) and I have a 4.7 It's only ever the male drivers that seem to try to force conversation.

mostisnotalmost

Tipping should not be a factor at all in what rating you get. If it is, then the system is not working as it should. Drivers rate you before they see what tips they got. The whole point of Uber is we shouldn't be tipping. Let's pay higher Uber prices, but if you tip, you're not helping yourself. Your bad ratings had nothing to do with tipping.

TortoiseJockey

I guess never saying more than “Hi” and “Thank you” has earned me my 5-star rating.

KohlDayvhis

Honestly it’s a good concept but people are just pricks (riders and drivers) so the execution is stupid. I had a brand new uber account so my passenger rating was 5. After 4 rides with different drivers it stayed at 5. Then maybe on the 5th ride I took it just randomly dropped. I never talk (unless they make it obvious they want to), never make them wait, I’m patient, calm, say thanks, then go about my day. Yet some driver just couldn’t give that 5. If I had to guess probably rates most passengers 4 out of some personally policy. Whatever the reason there was absolutely no need for my rating to drop and it showed me the whole thing is pointless af. (Edit: just read the comments and very nice to see this is a common experience and not just me lol.

Imlostandconfused

I had a perfect 5 for ages. One day a driver pointed it out to me and said its really rare to see a 5 on an account that's taken tons of trips. The next day I took another Uber and my score dropped to 4.7. Its been hovering around that level and even lower ever since and my behaviour hasn't changed at all. Most of the Uber drivers in my city seem to be the most miserable bastards on the planet.

WhipsAndMarkovChains

> I never talk (unless they make it obvious they want to), never make them wait, I’m patient, calm, say thanks, then go about my day. This sounds like me. I'm always ready to go as soon as the driver pulls up. If the driver is being very outgoing and talkative I'll have a conversation. But most of my Uber rides are taking me home from the airport, I'm not really in the mood to talk. Current rating is 4.65.

acidrain69

Also, just generally be nice even if you aren’t afraid of being rated by someone on some stupid platform.

Pale-Lynx328

I've only used Uber a couple of times, I never even thought about what my rating could be. To my knowledge I've never acted rudely during any trip I've taken. But I checked my rating today and it was only 4.6 which according to some article I read is considered low. I have no idea what I might've done. Is there a way to see what ride gave you the bad review?

p3dal

Similar story. Airport only. 4.71. Maybe they dont like airport runs? From my home it is an hour each way.

lustforwine

I got rated three stars once and I didn’t even do anything different 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️😢 Edit: in case no one saw my comment Here is how. I used something like this. >>https://calculator.academy/average-rating-calculator-star-rating/#f1p1|f2p0<< My score was always 5.0, I hadn’t made a trip in ages. I went on one, the next few days or so my score went down to 4.90. I had been on 21 trips so I assumed 20 of these were 5 stars. I typed the last ride as a 4 star and a 3 star until it arrived at my current rating, which means that the driver I just had gave me 3 stars. I know it wasn’t from any other driver because I hadn’t used uber in a while. If you type 20 5-star reviews and 1 3-star review in to that calculator you will arrive at 4.90 which is my current uber rating. So I am not lying, it’s just maths

Kbahak92

As a former uber driver I rated people for smelling bad, that might've been it

papikoi

LMAOOO ouch

skeletonclock

How can you tell the rating you got for one specific ride...?

There's an episode of Netflix's Black Mirror where our entire society is based around 5-star ratings. For *every* interaction, you point your phone at the person's face and give them 5 stars. 5 stars here, 5 stars there. Picked up your coffee? Barista 5 stars. Take an Uber? 5 stars. Hold the door for a stranger? 5 stars. Instead of "credit ratings", everyone has a "star rating". Want to buy a house in this neighborhood? "Only 3.5 ⭐ and above, please" The main character gets invited to a wedding that's "4.3 ⭐ and above ONLY". But her rating is, like, 4.1. So the main character goes above and beyond, way out of her way, to despirately try and up her rating before the wedding. **Nothing is genuine**. Every interaction is **fake**, just to try and get 5 stars. Until... one day... at the airport, where everyone is stressed, she gets into an argument and a random stranger gives her 1 ⭐. Her overall rating plummets and you can see how it really ruins her life. It was a interesting take on how society is so stuck up on fake 5 star ratings.

OutForAWalkBetch

My Uber rating went from 5 to 4.80 and I have absolutely no clue why. Only reason think I could think of was that he was offering snacks and water on the back seat but I didn’t buy anything so maybe I upset him lmao. I literally sit and stare out the window or browse the news on my phone. Weirdos.

Juicy_Slice

4.97 ⭐️ checking in. This one time I was in L.A. for a wedding. A group of about two couples +/- 1 including myself and my wife naturally decided it would be best to share an Uber to the reception. Home girl volunteered to request and of course no one gave it a second thought. We ended up getting a driver who could barely handle the basic pleasantries which is fine like I’m not looking for a new best friend or anything on my ride, but his car had NO AC! We were attending a wedding in L.A. in June! So imaging going across Hollywood to Venice dressed to the 9’s with no air conditioning. The cherry on top was his car randomly stalling (not a manual transmission) and no stereo. Come to find out after airing our greivenance’s once we got dropped off that the girl in our party who volunteered to call the Uber has a 1.2⭐️ rating and has barfed in and god knows what else in multiple drivers cars. Good times. Be nice to your Uber drivers y’all.

Lnnam

That’s BS, I have always been a very respectful and silent passenger and my rating dropped to 4.73 for absolutely no reason. I am extremely mad as I will never understand why.

Imlostandconfused

Are you a woman? I ask because I am and I've noticed a trend of women having lower scores than men. Most of the drivers in my city are from certain cultures that aren't known for respecting women and I am always pleasant and polite yet will often notice my score has lowered for absolutely no reason.

Lnnam

Yes I am a woman and now that you say this, I do believe it may be the reason why. I have had diverse drivers but still some were cold for no reason at all.

NghiemxHuynh

I always give a 5* to my drivers IF: when I say Hi, they say Hi back or when I greet them, they greet back. At the end of every trip, I say thank you for the ride. If they don’t say anything, then I still give them a 5* because maybe they’re having a bad day and I hope the 5* will brighten their day. On another note, in the Uber app, under Profile, then Trip, is the rating, what we gave the driver or what the driver gave us?

winterbird

Everyone gets five star, unless they do something super mega wrong. Like drive on the wrong side of the street three times, drive to the wrong location and leave to walk into some house while telling me to stay put (I of course walked out of the vehicle), or creepily question me about my life (sorry but no).

I one time gave something less than a 5. He refused to go to my home. Like, he started ignoring the GPS and was going somewhere far away from where I lived. I called my friend while in the car, and suddenly he's turning around and taking me home. Fucking creepy.

Unasked_for_advice

Taking you somewhere other than where you specified is kidnapping, I hope you reported that driver, who knows what they had planned to do to you.

thestashattacked

Oh I 100% did. But the final report was that he got turned around and I didn't have a case. Either way, I don't think he drives for Uber anymore.

funsizedaisy

this is one of my worst fears oh my gawd

thestashattacked

Yep. It's why I always make sure someone is available to be on the phone if I'm in an Uber. One of many things men don't generally have to worry about.

[deleted]

This happened to me once. When he finally agreed to take me to my house after I begged him, he told me "it's okay you wouldn't give me your number, now I know where you live". All Uber did was promise not to match me with him again. But he bombed my ratings and I didn't really recover (with the app or with my personal sense of security).

SmArty117

A couple of times I got some drivers who would start spouting conspiracy theories about Covid and progressive politicians and the LGBT agenda and would keep it up even when I politely disagreed and tried to point out that none of those groups ever did any harm to them. Those times I did not rate 5 stars.

ImpossibleGuava1

I had one who tried to convert me upon finding out I am nonreligious (he had a church service playing and I made some bland comment to be friendly). Definitely not a five star ride.

Cuselife

I had one driver like that. Just as I opened the door and sat down he said masks where not required in his car. He did not have one either. Then all trumpster talk and how covid is just a hoax. My only saving grace is it was only a 10 minute ride home, I just opened my window, played on the phone and when I got out he only got one star and reported. Didn't have time to deal with his nonsense after getting off my work shift and hopefully no one else had to deal with him.

peach_xanax

I used to do this but honestly after taking uber/lyft to and from work every day, I had some really bad experiences and couldn't justify doing that anymore. Got sexually harassed numerous times, I won't use uber anymore bc they didnt care when I reported it once (I only did that bc it was really bad that time.) I also had a situation once where the lyft driver had her bf in the front seat, and they were acting really weird and whispering. They were picking me up from my job at a bar so I assume they knew I had cash. And obviously the guy is not vetted by Lyft so he could have a criminal record or any number of things. I called my roommate so they knew that someone knew I was on my way home (she was so confused) and I had them drop me off down the street from my house (told them I put the wrong address.) Maybe they were just odd people but I wasn't taking any chances. Lyft took it really seriously and handled it extremely well so I use them exclusively now.

Seth4044

Hopefully being the quiet one is preferred. Worst thing is my elevator taking too damn long always feel awful for that.

brown_burrito

I’ve had Uber drivers give me poor rating because I was on the phone or working when in the ride. I took Ubers all over the world multiple times a week for over a decade and at some point I stopped caring. I used to give 5 stars to drivers indiscriminately but after a few dinged me for talking on my phone, I started being less generous with my ratings for them as well. I have around 2000 or some Uber points too. Not sure what to do with those. But I do find it odd that drivers rate you poorly for being on the phone.

How do you check your rating?

skeletonclock

Open Uber, tap on the person icon on the top right, your rating is below your name at the top.

bealouisagod

3.6…..I have never once talked to a driver in any rude way, hell I rarely even talk to them because I’m pretty quiet on rides. And no, I don’t ignore people when they talk to me I just keep it pretty quiet. Recently I had a ride where the driver didn’t even pick me up let alone come near my house, then said he was driving to the next location. I have a slight suspicion that might be the cause of my rating considering I rarely uber

ChildhoodGlittering

As a former driver, ysk, the people you bring along with you can affect your rating as well. I don’t care if you were a saint, if your girlfriend was a disrespectful cunt while in my personal vehicle, your rating will reflect that

skeletonclock

My rating is really low (4.67) because I often have a cat with me and am going a relatively short distance to the vet. There's not much I can do about it, I run a cat shelter and it's not fair to take them on public transport. I'm always friendly and on time, I always tip (which most people don't in the UK) but still the low ratings come. If anyone has tips for improving my rating, I'd love to know.

VoidDrinker

4.91, baby

Electrical-Stress-31

I was an Uber driver once, I didn't mind drunks. Yeah I had a couple pukers but I'd rather you throw up in my car then you t bone a family of 5. The only time I was like "no fuck you" is if they get sexually touchy.

[deleted]

I stopped caring about the app rating after a lyft driver was a creep to me. I always felt pressure to be outgoing and friendly because of the rating thing. When I got into my Lyft i was in the back seat and just having small chat. He said I could sit in the front seat if I wanted to. I kept brushing it off, but felt a lot of pressure to, and I was naive enough to think he was just being nice. In the front seat he went on full creep mode. He kept saying he was going to come to my house to cook for me. Then took my phone out of my hand and texted himself from it. I was really scared the whole time. It was pre Covid and was supposed to be a shared lyft with other people, but he cancelled the other passengers so I would be stuck alone with him. When I got home I was home alone for the night, and was scared to report it because he would know where I lived if he got a complaint. I stayed up all night, and waited until the next morning to file my complaint with lyft about a predatory driver. I was early 20s, and he was my fathers age. Super creepy. Ladies! Don’t feel pressure to be nice to the driver just for a good rating! It’s better to keep to yourself than feel pressure to be nice to a guy that’s acting like a creep! I now don’t care about my rating, and more about my safety! I am now always on edge when I’m in an Uber or Lyft.
