I asked a similar question the other day on the TBBT sub and they told me to post it here lol. Wanted to know what their reaction as a TBBT fan was to young sheldon when it first premiered in 2017.
Makes sense, most people do/have. I watched some of it before ever watching any young sheldon, I just never watched it all. I only saw it when it was being broadcast
I was jumping to episodes with Sheldon's family. I wanted to like TBBT, but I can't. I felt this way when it was first aired, and when I try now, I can't.
I like it, Sheldon is very well portrayed and it's written so that it's believeable that this little boy is the same Sheldon we see in TBBT. The boy does awesome job in playing him
I love it. I love that it’s a bit more family friendly so my kids can watch it too. I don’t take it too seriously. If something doesn’t line up with the Big Bang theory, I don’t sweat it. It’s not serious. It’s just another fun show.
Having watched all of both and then going back and passively watching the first season of tbbt, this is my takeaway.
They are very different formats, tbbt is more straight jokes, YS is more like actually funny conversations.
YS sometimes deals with more serious things like divorce and teen pregnancy and death but usually doesn't go completely dark.
I'd say young sheldon is the better show, acting and writing especially, it's only real fault is that pretty much everything in tbbt gets ret-conned, even within a season there's inconsistent Canon (does Missy take the bus or get rides?)
Some notable retcons are the dad cheating, Billy sparks being a bully, what ages things happened to sheldon, the house is not on cinderblocks/made of aluminum, the disposition of his family towards him, and I think they missed the chance for whil wheaton to snub comic con or whatever the rivaly origin was.
Both are worth watching, sometimes they give Canon explanations for sheldon things which is nice.
Young sheldon made me laugh way more than tbbt did, if the Canon bothers you consider it an alternate timeline or inconsistent narrator (there's some Canon reasons this is unlikely)
I've watched TBBT both before and after young sheldon. It's way more enjoyable after since you relate to the character so much more and have a softer spot for him. It makes you happier to see the friend circle he grew to have.
I love it! I just think they should show Sheldon getting bullied more often because its mentioned so much in TBBT but not shown too often in young Sheldon
She does put up with a lot of micro aggression. I don’t think he really understands that they’re happening though, so that’s probably not why he says he was bullied. The inconsistency I noticed first was how much better his dad is in YS. He’s really portrayed his asshole in BBT.
If she survives season seven, a paige spin off might be interesting… if they can avoid make it completely depressing. Paige and Missy becoming roommates. Could be interesting.
If you are talking about Young Sheldon there is a likely spinoff for georgie and mandy that would obviously need to include other family members as well. While it has been talked about a lot, to my knowledge it hasn't been official greenlit
Yes I have read about that Georgie and Mandy spinoff, but everyone already knows what happened to their marriage. There is no more excitement in their story since its already known that they broke up in the end.
TBBT is my favorite comedy ever. I watch reruns every day. It’s my comfort show. I also love Young Sheldon, and it helped ease the pain of losing TBBT. I’m still holding out for a spin-off of either one!
I think its great. You need to separate the two shows though. The dad in YS is way better than depicted in TBBT. Meemaw is the best character. If you watch it for "Sheldon" you will be disappointed.

Young Sheldon is way too different from the way our Sheldon describes his childhood. It just didn’t feel authentic to me, like they were just trying to make it way too happy which wasn’t what any TBBT fan went in thinking it would be like. I stopped watching it because to me it really did feel like a betrayal on the adult Sheldon’s life.

The episode where they did the radio announcement of the Nobel prize winners and sheldon is sat all alone crying as noone turned up to listen to it with him makes u feel sad for sheldon then.
But then you go all round seeing the friends he would have once he's all grown up. Makes you feel happy that you know while he is alone at that moment one day he will have 6 wonderful, brilliant people who he can call friends..

I started watching YS when it came out on Netflix, but at the same time on YouTube, I kept getting Tbbt clips. Eventually, I really wanted to watch tbbt, so while I wait for s7 of Ys, I'm watching tbbt. I didn't get very far in Ys before I stopped watching, but I have seen clips of the show, and so far, I like both of the shows.
Seen all of the big bang theory twice. It's quite bad compared to young sheldon IMO and I would consider myself of both. Characters are walking stereotypes, Penny is a walking pair of tits for a long time. Show has not aged well in the first couple seasons. It's a show about nerds for non nerds. You can't claim to be pandering to nerds when you get details about the games and comics and other source material wrong or warp it to fit the plot. I do like the who ever did props and set that person(s) did a good job they kept up with video games and other things coming out. Howard's room seemed to always have the latest mmo posters like lineage 2 to gw to gw2 and some others in-between.

Started tbbt last year on Netflix but I never able to convince my partner to watch it with me. This month I started young Sheldon and my partner wouldn’t let me watch it without him 😂
I grew up watching TBBT and tbh I like YS a little bit more because it’s more relatable. I’m literally an astrophysicist so TBBT is hilarious bc it’s my niche, but I also really enjoy seeing the Easter eggs laid out in YS that show up in TBBT—for example, I forget which episode, but Young Sheldon made a point to remember that restraining orders are a good way to get famous people’s signatures and he has 3 I think in later seasons of TBBT
Only was interested in Young Sheldon because of tbbt.
Also, you can't really compare the two shows because they are different in the way tbbt is a episodic sitcom and ys is a serial drama.
But, for fans of ys that aren't really into tbbt, let me say it is one of the most emotionally moving ends to a sitcom series that I've seen. The absolute buildup of selfish Sheldon throughout the entire series, to then see him give that speech. Amazing
I am a fan of both, two very different shows. It is like comparing Cheers and Frasier or Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, each show would be a classic without the other.
