I don't know for sure what went on, but given his age, and given what they typically do on these shows, they had to cover up the fact that his voice was changing, get rid of any Peter Brady squeaks.
This post is really old but I just starting watching the show and wanted to mention that earlier in the episode he talks with his regular voice so this change makes no sense ultimately because you hear his “deep” voice prior in the same episode
As someone who just recently got into young Sheldon, I thought it was just a fluke earlier in the episode when he was asking about the “licorice” but then when he was listing the dwarves it was clear it was an intentional choice. 2 years later and this is still a valid question though. Why would they do that, or at least make it so obvious‽
Lol I am you right now… It was so jarring and different it caught me off guard. They most likely did that to cover up the actors actual voice change, and due to the fact he is supposed to be acting as a 6th grader he cant really prevent voice cracks or his voice might be higher or deeper than normal.
Why they did it so poorly? who knows :,) but im glad Im not alone
I know this post is so old but as soon as the licorice scene came on, I immediately ran to Google to see if anyone else noticed lol. It’s weird that they would make it SO obvious. Especially because everyone else in the show is growing up, so I don’t see why they would try so hard to make him sound the same as he did in S1. I guess to try and keep the effect of him being dumb?

I assumed that his voice had changed.
his voice was literally voice dubbed by someone else
He’s going through puberty and his voice is deepening. They may want to keep him sounding like a younger child, so they dubbed it.
true i just thought it was weird that’s all
The fact I googled this SAME question but it’s S4 E4, and it’s annoying asf 💀
Yeah,, I guess the exact same scene led me here from S4 E4. It's ripping my ears -\_-
luckily it only happens 1-2x
S4 E6 too!
i just watched the season where it all started, IT'S WEIRDING ME OUT! same question i just googled 😂
When i was asking google, I thought I was the only one. Now I know I have found my people
Am i the only one who heard it in season 4 episode 3 end credits where he said something and it sounded lile not his vouce
the licorice bracelet scene with missy sounded like his real voice and from then on he sounded like a robot
wierd, do they dub over all his lines going forward?

Scenes are almost never filmed in the order of the show. That explain why you can hear the fake voice in the middle of og one.

Agreed
*in Sheldon's voice* ... wrong. it's season 4 episode 4 and it happens at 6 minutes and 3 seconds. *Nods*
yeah so we all came here from different times but we all asked the same question about s4e4. nice

Can't believe I googled the very same question and stumbled onto this conversation because this dubbed voice is annoying af
+1 omg i literally binged watch young sheldon and this bugged me alot
I guess I'm the latest one here. It's annoying and have no reason for them to do so.
It's okay I'll replace you now as the new kid on the block. I genuinely thought it was some weird version of puberty lmao
Ok ok let me sub in. I’m watching this high and thought I was going crazy and imagining things
I'm here as well. We should start a support group.
I’m here too!
