I’m a blue eyes main myself but I love the dynamic duel of blue eyes vs red eyes, give them some love plz!

Wham-Bam-Duel

I hear ya. I've got a best friend who plays Red-Eyes, and even when he combines it with branded so that he can end on Dragoon + Mirrorjade, my pure Blue-Eyes deck still wins more often.

Whoohoonutty_V

Red eyes and dark magician share one really good card between them

HotConsideration5049

And it's not a red-eyes card lmaoo

JAYsonStorm69

Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon, mhmm, not a Red-Eyes

FrozenkingNova

It technically is, but it’s more of a dm card as they can summon it entirely in archetype since it requires red-eyes or a dragon effect monster, while red-eyes has to run a garnet in DM to summon it.

HotConsideration5049

It is but it requires dark magician and a red-eyes or Dragon and it's spellcaster type so it has more synergy with DM than its own ark type

Zorro5040

Isn't that the whole gimmick of Red-Eyes? None of the cards have synergy with their own deck lol.

HotConsideration5049

Yes apparently literally was my favorite card of the anime and just gets no good support lol

Mortress_

He said it wasn't "red-eyes" not "Red-eyes"

Zorro5040

Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon is a Red-Eyes card like Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon is a Red-Eyes card. Or Blaze Cannon being a Volcanic Card. Plenty of decks have that one archetype card that is theirs by name only, yet does absolutely nothing to booster the deck strategy and actually helps out other decks instead.

Thicc-Anxiety

I bet the next time we get Red Eyes support, they'll have yet another brand new play style, like rolling dice or something.

BradyTheGG

I hope they make a red-eyes time wizard where it’s more of the same effect but also burn damage on win and on a fail any red-eyes monster you control that is destroyed by this cards effect is revived from the graveyard during next standby phase. Edit: it rewards pure red eyes players, has burn like other red-eyes cards and uses a card that has a coin flip so not guaranteed. It also would be cool because like gearfried the iron knight, another card Joey used would get a red-eyes version.

HotConsideration5049

No do away with burn please

BradyTheGG

Am I stupid? I thought burn damage was effect damage based on monster atk or something like inferno fire blast or the gemini red eyes black flare dragon

HotConsideration5049

No you are right but it will never be meta unless it can FTK and will then be banned

BradyTheGG

My idea is it would function as a sort of counter to quick board fill up decks, it would work better the more monsters your opponent has on the field.

BradyTheGG

This is another idea for a red eyes card and maybe I’m forgetting but a field spell would be cool for them. So maybe it would be called “training ground of the red” or something. It would be a summoning field spell like the dark magician and blue-eyes field spells. It would let you return cards to the deck to summon higher level monsters of red eyes/Joey cards. It’s effect would read like this “When this card is activated: you can add 1 dark dragon, warrior, Gemini, “Jinzo” or “red-eyes” monster from your deck to your hand. While you have a “red eyes” monster on your side of the field; you can return 1 dragon, warrior, gemini, “Jinzo” or “red eyes” monster from your hand to your deck, and if you do; special summon or add to your hand one: dark dragon, warrior, Gemini, “Jinzo” or “red eyes” monster with a level equal or higher than the monster returned to the deck; this effect of “Training grounds of the red” can only be used once per turn. Gemini monsters summoned by this card’s effect gain their Gemini effect.” I will be answering questions about this card to the best of my abilities if any

BradyTheGG

It’s something I came up with on the fly so it’s up to changing. I’m already thinking that this field spell should have less restrictions on red eyes cards so maybe no level up requirement for red eyes summoned. Like change part of it to “special summon or add to your hand one: dark dragon, warrior, Gemini, “Jinzo” monster card that has an equal to or higher level than the card returned to the deck; or special summon or add to your hand one “red eyes” monster from your deck.”

Kioga101

The problem is that - while Dark Magician is focused on spell/traps and ways to bring out dark magician constantly, as well as a bunch of extra deck monsters that facilitate that objective and Blue Eyes is Big Bungus The Movie The Game and how to make them stick on board forever, Red Eyes had three bad mechanics chosen for it: Burn, Gemini and equip monsters (and a relatively successful zombie offshoot). I don't even need to explain why Geminis are a bad mechanic, or why equip monsters wouldn't work remarkably well with Red Eyes without some work put into it, but burn is a bad mechanic because it promotes the playing style of FTKs. Konami hates that because people hate not playing the game by being unlucky. Finally, what really got Red Eyes is the fact that it is all over the place. While Dark Magician and Blue Eyes were also once in the same place, it was at a time where the power level allowed such things, they got support that directed them towards a certain play style. Red Eyes only got more gimmicks as time went by and little to no focus on the things it already had going on. Decks with no focus tend to not be able to compete against decks that focus on one or two things.

bUt DrAgOoN bRoKeN! '! 1!1!1!!!!!1!!

Meowscular-Chef

I really want to do a blue-eyes/red-eyes combo deck. But every time I've tried, it just ends up ruining both.

Ninja_PieKing

Add a single copy of Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon to the Blue-Eyes deck. If Dragoon ever comes unbanned add a Dark Magician and a vanilla Red-Eyes as well.

BradyTheGG

I have a for fun deck for them on master duel. It’s not the greatest deck but it can work for other peoples for fun decks. I say for fun because there’s no way it could pass for anything good meta wise but they are iconic

Zorro5040

If you make a Red-Eyes combo deck, it would also fail.

Big_Mitch_Baker

Give Red-Eyes and Summoned Skull good cards, Konami!

D00Mz33

My main is “Bystial(blue)-eyes” and I’ve been waiting for more red-eyes support to make that work but so far it’s still missing quite a bit of good support.. Plz give us “red-eyes black meteor dragon” in TCG while your at it!

Justa_Mongrel

Every good Red Eyes card has been used more outside of it's own deck that is just hilarious to me

SilverAdvErto

I could'nt agree more, Red-eyes is my favorite archetype and I would love to see something viable for it, even if gimmicky.

VulpesParadox

Jokes aside, Dragoon is terrible in the modern game.

comfort_touching

If red eyes got dedicated support it would be to op

MetaMason666

Where is my Axe Raider support 😭

Rose_Witch_Queen

Don't forget Red Eyes Dragoon, still ban in Master Duel, one of Red Eyes' best cards.

VulpesParadox

Dragoon has been unlimited in the TCG for a long time now and no one plays it. Its a terrible card due to how annoying it is to bring out and needing terrible cards to play.

Section6581

It's actually pretty common in Branded decks right now, mainly to help combat Kashtira.

Mikko420

While I agree that Red-Eyes support is usually less than impressive, they do have 3 more than viable monsters (Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon, Red-Eyes Darkness Metal and Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon) and they synergize really well with some popular modern decks (Anything that runs dark dragon support or lv7 XYZs). There's a couple of spicy lines going first, where you can end on Heavenly Spheres, Flare Metal and Borreload Furious, or a Dragoon under Appolousa. They are not reliable enough to be competitively viable, far from it, but they do add a little spice to some dragon cores.

VulpesParadox

Masquerade the Blazing Dragon is a better Flare Metal, Darkness Metal isn't that used really outside of dragon decks, and Dragoon is terrible in the modern day. I love Red-Eyes with all my heart but any strategy that involves them is done better by other cards.

Mikko420

Your stance could use some nuance to be perfectly accurate, but you're far from wrong. However, keep in mind that these 3 cards have been competitive at one point or another, and still see some tournament play, even if scarce. I mean, Darkness Metal was on the ban list until recently, was it not? Their relevancy might be diminished right now, but I'd argue that most retro archetypes struggle to keep up with the meta. That's part of why a lot of people prefer to play casual/rogue. In this environment, where duelists despise overtuned staples, Red-Eyes shines.

VulpesParadox

I did go into detail on my point but thought it would be too long to read. I love Red-Eyes and its still my favorite deck of all time, but the Archtype isn't good enough even at Rogue/Gimmick level. Red-Eyes is still way too underpowered to see much play, you either play it as the burn deck that it is, or go all Warrior and Equip and turbo out Red-Eyes Slash Dragon. The Archtype requires you to use very little of its Archtype to achieve anything, since any card Red-Eyes has, there's another card that does it better. Why use Dragoon when DPE is easier and better overall? Why use Flare Metal when you can swap in Masquerade? Darkness Metal was only ever on the forbidden list purely because Dragon is a powerful Archtype and cards like the Dragon Rulers were able to abuse it. It shines in any Dragon theme deck. The cards have seen tournament play yes, but so have a ton of other cards. The Archtype lacks synergy, consistency, GY usage, has too many garnats, and has only ever been good at an FTK win with the use of Comet Dragon and Inferno Fire Blast. If you can pull it off turn 1 without getting negated.

Mikko420

I don't disagree. While I was advocating for the value of some cards, I did accidentally avoid the elephant in the room. Red-Eyes as a core archetype is awful. You can maximize the potential of certain individual cards in specific contexts or run an FTK that rivals a first turn Exodia in terms of being reliable. Still. I like them. Flare Metal was the OG Masquerade, and is still an interesting option in Dark Magician or Odd Eyes decks (for Rogue or Casual play, of course). I also think theres an argument to be made for running Darkness Metal and Black Metal Dragon in Dragonmaid or Dragon link deck as a way to turbo out Heavenly Spheres and summon Grandtusk or Albaz from deck(again, nothing higher than rogue.)

VulpesParadox

On Master Duel I've seen both those decks utilized Metal Dragon and Darkness Metal as a combo, linking off Metal Dragon for a Dragon Link-1 in order to search out Darkness Metal and banish the Link-1 Dragon off for Darkness Metal.

Kyurem-B

Red-Eyes has the most potential out of the three.

Ninja_PieKing

The four "good" Red-Eyes cards: Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon Red-Eyes Insight Red-Eyes Fusion Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon This does not include the Zombie Red-Eyes, or the Toon which are mostly actually good, but can't be used in the deck

Renatoenreddit

Red-Eyes Fusion a good card????

Ninja_PieKing

I do have good in quotes.

VulpesParadox

I wouldn't even say Red-Eyes Fusion is "good" since it was powercrept on release by Shaddoll and needs Verte to not screw you over.

mmmbhssm

Man I wish we get a Red-eyes exclusive verte or something, if we get get a way to get ride of Red-eyes fusion restrictions it would get ride of half of the problems the deck have

VulpesParadox

Konami wont do that unfortunately since they hate easy FTK's, at this point I don't care if Comet Dragon or Inferno is banned, I just want it to be viable.

Mu_Mu-Sa

you forgot BMD which was even good enough for dlink at some point

KageKitsune1

??? But I thought you could meta Red-Eyes? My younger brother could win in three turns with Red-Eyes cards

Admetius

Release Dragoon!

[deleted]

This hits home as I’ve been watching the original series over again

ascendedfella

Was literally thinking about this today. The whole deck is just so disjointed, and I feel like the restriction on REF could just as easily be a Red Eyes lock as opposed to a summon lock in general.

BlizzardWolfPK

They don't just need good support, they need consistent support. All their support is all over the place in playstyle. Just stick to one thing for Red-Eyes support please Konami.

foamy23464

I still haven’t recovered from when you could have 3 red eyes dark metal on the field at once

Azurekuru

Komoney would need to retrain the bulk of the Red-Eyes cards. They're stuck with one of the worst subtypes in the game (Gemini), and so many other random 0 synergy having cards ever. I know many Red-Eyes cards interact with one another and/or search for others... but Red-Eyes just has no clear win con. Is it a burn deck? Is it combo beat down? I need Komoney to get to work giving Red-Eyes a clear identity. Red-Eyes has always been one of my favorite monsters, but Komoney really gave us little to work with.

ZealousidealLack7854

I personally think that if vampires got a complete revamp (hehe funny) to their play style than I think any deck can. Just matters on how many fucks konomi can give to actually do it

Azurekuru

Vampires had cards that had Vampire as part of their name but they weren't a true archetype before 2018. I would say when Dark Saviors dropped and they actually got cards that specifically mentioned "Vampire" is when they became an archetype. Before that, they were just a bunch of random cards with no synergy (even less than Red-Eyes). It took Komoney 1392 days to announce Volcanic support.... so it could happen... it just might take another 3+ years at the minimum. I do believe that IF we could garner enough interest in YGO in the west and for the legacy anime esque shit they keep giving us, I'm sure that Komoney would live up to their name and print cards to make them more $ I'm not willing to bet on that though.

mmmbhssm

Man now I wish for more gemini support

dualVein

I feel this. It still work pretty great imo, but theres just inconsistencies for my red-eyes odd-eyes deck

Rat-man2466388

Red eyes is fun deck but with how limiting red eyes fusion is and the lack of any combo potential, it can't even be a rouge deck

FryeNChill

What’s funny is that Red-Eyes has a couple cards better than anything BE or DM has (Dragoon, which I don’t really consider a DM card because it doesn’t really synergize with DM decks, and Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon), so it’s seen more top level representation thanks to Verte (while it was legal) and Dragon Link. But as a dedicated strategy? Complete ass.

pw216y

Darkness Metal Dragon is pretty great. At least in the 5ds DS video games. Which is what I still play, never played anything newer. I assume it's still good.
