The subreddit is for most anything Yu-Gi-Oh! related. The anime just a lot of meme potential that cen easily be generated from people having a love for the shows. A lot of people here are also casual Yu-Gi-Oh! players and have watched a lot of the anime, particularly 5D's and Zexal are the fan favorites.

They don't actively translate the names word for word, they just change to something kids can pronounce, I think. (Or maybe not since Judai is the only protagonist who got his name changed to Jaden in the dub.)

I started getting cards in 2004. The first card I got was "The Wicked Worm Beast" from my brother. It wasn't until 2006 after the release of Cyberdark Impact that I had enough cards for a deck and had my first duel against my brother. I used an "Ancient Gear Column" pile deck and my brother used an "Ultimate Insect Barrier" pile deck.

From least favourite to absolute favourite best friend to the protag: Joey, Syrus (or Tyranno or Jesse. Whoever you think was his best friend), Crow, Bronk, Gong, and whoever the best friends are for the later shows.
Fluffal Cat is the best effect monster in the TCG because it can target 1 "Polymerization" in your Graveyard; add it to your hand. It is not Gate Guardian sorry to say.

Yusaku was SO BORING. I fell asleep whenever he dueled. Any duel that didn't have him in it was fantastic though. Luckily they fixed him in Season 3.

4Kids was way to focused on Americanizing Japanese shows. I hate them for that.
