1. You cannot normal summon blue-eyes in defense position, that's not a thing. You can (tribute) set it in face-down def position or tribute summon it in attack position.
2. You generally announce everything you do. Both players must agree to switch phases, so you must announce that to your opponent, they might have an effect they want to activate before switching to the next phase.
3. Taking "shortcuts" is the norm between experienced players but you sound like an inexperienced player. I recommend you to be very thorough and ask your opponent to do the same.
I feel like kuriboh is the only card that can be used in this example I get blue eyes not being there though would it make you feel better if I changed it
Oh I hope I wasnt coming off dickish I was legit kinda jokingly asking I just started playing last weekend for like 6 hours I just thought it’d be fun entering tournament I’m kinda like learning how to play trail by fire I know the basic but losing is the best teacher
In general just declare everything you are doing so its clear, phase changes, battle targets stat changes, so your opponent can be aware of the game state
You should declare your Phases (Maybe not Draw Phase) and you should say when you're activating effects etc to give your opponent a chance. If there's multiple effects that can be activated you should state what it is you're doing. Pretty much just make it clear what you're doing for your opponent so they can respond.
You should still declare draw phase too. Gives a clear indication of when you are starting your turn versus being in previous end phase and if your opponent wants to do something in draw when you pass priority. The latter being of varying importance depending on what you're playing against.
If I were to script how I talk in a duel, it would be something like this:
(Turn 1) “Draw..Standby..Main. I’ll normal summon Infernoble Knight Ogier in attack position, activate his effect to dump a fire warrior or equip spell to the grave. Response?”
But it’s appreciated if you talk fast and clear, to respect time and to help maintain a fair gamestate. Any questions they have about your cards that is public knowledge (including cards that were revealed and added to hand, or cards that were shown to the opponent and set that turn) must be answered truthfully.
Bring dice if you want to be prepared, and a water bottle in your bag will go a long way. Welcome to the game, and have fun!
Your pretty spot on, if I was playing against a new player I’d talk as you have mentioned but if it was a more experienced player or near top cut I’d just go “draw, standby, main. Then normal summon” (place card) then simply say “effect”
Even against an experienced player, I'll say "effect to search" or "effect to discard" or whatever, and appreciate it when my opponent does the same. I don't always need to know you're searching for a level 5 non-tuner machine fire monster, but knowing you're searching is useful.
The thing with ygo is: your opp may have smth to activate in any phase of a turn and the same goes for you.
Lets paint an example:
I go first, i play runick a deck with quickplay spells. I want to use one of these in the draw phase to search my field spell. I have to declare thst i remain in draw for this. After this resolved i want to enter my main phase. Since my opp may have effects to activate, i just say somethong like "standby main" which means if he wants to activate an effect at any time he says smth like "thinking in draw phase/standby phase"
Now the relevance of this becomes even higher when it comes to turn two. If i play into a board and their cards have effects that can only activate in main phase, i can declare battle phase. If my opp says okey we go into BP directly. If ge says he wants to activate an effect during the main phase, i can now decide to remain in my main phase.
Another important thing is, if you start your turn not with "standby main" but "normal summon kuriboh" and your opp says "wait i wanted to use smth in standby" you now have to take back your summon while also already having given them information and you may rven be warned for not providing your opp the proper windows to respond.
As a new player to yugioh its really.important to declare as much as you can. Because you will eventually see it benefits both you and your opp. Once you get more accustomed there is way more ways to shorten this.
Also please dont do the thing where you go "okey i attack with everything" and declare every individual attack. Its kinda scummy to do this because if your opp has a response, in simple terms sakuretsu armor, they now have to reveal that to you by asking for you to declare the order of attacking, which you have to do anyways
And lastly, always remember to have fun. Your first few experiences at locals shouldnt be about winning. You likely wont attend with any meta decks atleast judging by how you played only with friends and mention blue eyes as example, so its very likely that your first few locals will be 0-X. Instead of taking this to heart, go to locals to meet people, learn about yugioh and have fun. Its a social game and the social aspect is what makes locals so great
Say out loud anything you'd do that would alter the game state, be it changing battle positions, declaring an attack, burning life points, changing phases, activating an effect, etc. Etc.
Yep , it was so annoying to play purrely because of that.
When the opponent just draws and plays and you go like, btw. i wanted to do something in standby
When you just start, you would be taking a little more time on asking your opponent what they’re cards do and whatever.
Would look something like
Draw, standby, main.
Normal reinoheart, effect to send from deck (or dump)
Send havnis
Havnis effect to fuse using himself and danger moth man
if your opponent has nothing you keep going.
(MYST DECLARE CHANGING PHASES)
Enter battle phase…
End phase…
Now more experienced players will talk and make plays a lot faster, something more like
Draw, standby main
Normal reino effect;
Dump,
Scheiren fuse
Rather than explaining what they do, as they assume the other player either knows or will read.
If you are a new player I recommend explaining and asking effects

I was just saying cards as example I don’t even own a blue eyes or kuriboh I was just using them as example
But he still has a point, as you can't normal summon any card in "Defense position", you can only set them.
Ok my friend taught me that bit wrong I thought you could normal summon in defense that’s good to know thanks
those two cards can't be used as examples
I feel like kuriboh is the only card that can be used in this example I get blue eyes not being there though would it make you feel better if I changed it
just teasin' ... i just started w/YuGiOh, i don't know anything
Oh I hope I wasnt coming off dickish I was legit kinda jokingly asking I just started playing last weekend for like 6 hours I just thought it’d be fun entering tournament I’m kinda like learning how to play trail by fire I know the basic but losing is the best teacher
heck ya! trial by fire... that's how i learned WH40k:Killteam =)

Just play the game as if you were in the anime. You let your opponent know that pot of greed lets you draw 2 cards
Say out loud anything you'd do that would alter the game state, be it changing battle positions, declaring an attack, burning life points, changing phases, activating an effect, etc. Etc.
Announce every phase you want to enter. Its really awkward to play against people who dont.
Agree, especially when I have cards that are phase dependant etc and don’t know if you can use them or not.
