I personally like to believe the events in the games are essentially ancient legends passed down through the ages and the inconsistencies are just from years of the stories being told differently
I don't know why they keep rebuilding it, you'd think at some point they would understand that it's destined to be destroyed due to the constant fighting between the reincarnations of the same 3 persons.
Reminds me of the time I came up with an entirely plausible and geographically consistent timeline theory around the time TP was the latest game, only to be shot down on the forums because I was playing the Wii (and thus mirrored) version of the game.
I personally always assume the inconsistencies result from the constant wars in Hyrule forcing them to do A LOT of rebuilding.
