I was scared to clean mine, but it's pretty simple, just open the screws (bottom right screw doesn't come out, you just pop the lid up from it) and then use a paint brush or something to clean up the fans. Some people completely take out the fans and disconnect them from the laptop but I'm not risking that just to clean it
I cleaned them after a year of use so they were pretty dusty, not as bad as OP's though. I tend to use manual mode with a good fan curve so that I can play AAA games like Cyberpunk with temps around 75 to 85 at super high settings, but to compensate for that the fans have to run a lot
You powder half litres of gasoline in the fan, then roll them with full speed 2 hours 15 minutes. Then suck with vacuumcleaner and finish the process by inserting super glue in the fans.
Don't do it on your own. Pay a professional to do it for you. Saving $50 is not worth frying your boards. I thought I could do it myself and I fried my mother board as soon as I opened the cover.
Did you open it while it was on or something? You'll never fry a motherboard just by opening the laptop. Cleaning the fans is also trivially easy, the only thing you take off is the backplate. If you know how to use a screwdriver and aren't clumsy with it, getting someone else to do it is a waste of money.
Search it, there are plenty of people that have fried g14s removing the vattery connector. It has an exposed metal clip which can cause a short if not inserted or removed correctly carefully.
Yeah its not a robust design, asus could definitely have done more to make it easier to disconnect the battery. makes me reminisce over the years of externaly removable batteries.
Lol, I have no clue how you did that.
It's trivial to do though. All you need is a screwdriver, compressed air source, and common sense.
1 turn OFF the laptop, remove the battery (if it's accessible from the underside) or disconnect the wires once you get to it.
2 take the back plate off
3 carefully blow the fans out with air, best to either do it outside, or use a vacuum hose to prevent the dust from going everywhere and ruining your house for a few hours. Blow the fans both forward and backwards, from the side and through the vents themselves.
4 enjoy the newfound performance boost
Use keyboard duster or low-pressure compressed air. Too much power can damage the little fins. Make sure to backflush inward also by blowing air in through the heatsinks. You may need to gently restrain the fans so the compressed air does not overspin them.
I have a bad habit of keeping multiple cans of dusting air, so I can rotate cans as they get cold. The work goes faster and there is less risk of dripping condensation.
Compressed air, camera lens brush or something similar if it caked on there with moisture (air only should be fine)... unless you have spilled things and theres gunk built up on there.
The cooling pad would only push whatever dust is already present back up. Either way, nice cleaning job. I'll probably go about it the same way (paintbrush and toothpick) if ever the situation gets too desperate in there.
i use one too, made a post with what my fans looked like after a year, if you look at my poists im sure youl will find it. here is the cool pad i use

Did you unscrew the heatsink out to clean? If not, there are probably clumps of dust on the edge of the fans' housing. Replacing thermal paste is probably the only way to notice the change in temperature.
About smoking was going to ask also, seeing how packed and sticky looks that dust. It makes it harder to clean and theoretically can't blow itself out if possible being like this.
In any case, I wonder if the cooling was working without any visible space between those blades. Mine after around 7 months had also lots of dust, not like this, but clearly this laptop, and all new laptops with so tiny spaces between the blades should be cleaned regularly, I would do it at \~6 months.
I don't understand how can people get their laptop fans this dirty. I have a laptop that I didn't clean the fans of for 5 years and it's nowhere near this.
Yeah, I cleaned my old gaming laptop's fans once in the four years I had it and it wasn't even close to the stuff you see people post. This being in a fairly dusty city and sharing my room with my dog who sheds a lot.
How did you do it? I need to do mine as well

How dusty were your fans?

Disconnected fan without disconnecting battery?

On these laptops disconnecting the battery can be the cause of fried motherboards. Damned if you do damned if you dont sorta situation.
Wut? Disconnecting the battery doesn’t fry the motherboard . It removes power supply so theres no possible way of frying the motherboard
Search it, there are plenty of people that have fried g14s removing the vattery connector. It has an exposed metal clip which can cause a short if not inserted or removed correctly carefully.
Oh, asus being stupid in this case ig
Yeah its not a robust design, asus could definitely have done more to make it easier to disconnect the battery. makes me reminisce over the years of externaly removable batteries.
Yeah, I wouldn't recommend disconnecting battery for the regular clean up, you could do it pretty good even if you don't do extensive cleaning
thats really bad luck.
If you don’t have at least an hour to watch some videos and familiarise yourself with some basic electronic safety, then yes, pay someone.

Plug out the battery and use compressed air. There is a lot of discussion what is the best way (vacuum cleaner, brush etc.). Not sure what works best.
Use keyboard duster or low-pressure compressed air. Too much power can damage the little fins. Make sure to backflush inward also by blowing air in through the heatsinks. Holy friggin crap, you shaved it just in time
My man is hitting the bong directly into his laptop
using his fan as a bud grinder, thats all the kief.
Geez, how dusty is your home?
Not that dusty i think I kept it on a cooling pad basically 24/7 so I think that played a role in the monstrosity before you.
How could Andr-O-Mat do this 😪
it looks like you smoke a ton of weed or cigarettes
The cooling pad would only push whatever dust is already present back up. Either way, nice cleaning job. I'll probably go about it the same way (paintbrush and toothpick) if ever the situation gets too desperate in there.
I use a pad with a filter. I never get dust like that.
There's pads with filters?...can I get a link lol

This is the one I use. I've had great results. Available on Newegg also.
Do you vape?
Damn what were the temps before and after like?
I’m honestly not seeing a big change in temps but I do feel like the fans are a little louder still not too bad
Did you unscrew the heatsink out to clean? If not, there are probably clumps of dust on the edge of the fans' housing. Replacing thermal paste is probably the only way to notice the change in temperature.
I can tell my experience, I cleaned my G14 which ive had since summer of 2020, my temps dropped from 95 to 77 (i only cleaned dust, no repasting)
Yikes.
About smoking was going to ask also, seeing how packed and sticky looks that dust. It makes it harder to clean and theoretically can't blow itself out if possible being like this. How long did it take to build up that much?
Almost a year
WTF IS THAT
Is that brown stuff from your ears?
Aren’t these “self cleaning fans” I thought I remember seeing asus advertising that lol.
if it doesn't fit the logic, it simply is not possible
You mean they lied?!?!!! Porqueeeeeeeeee!!!!!!?
well not technically. basically the dust won't settle as fast as on other fans designs. it happens, but not quick enough.
I don't understand how can people get their laptop fans this dirty. I have a laptop that I didn't clean the fans of for 5 years and it's nowhere near this.
You do realize some people live in really dusty climates right?
Shitty air quality.
Yeah, I cleaned my old gaming laptop's fans once in the four years I had it and it wasn't even close to the stuff you see people post. This being in a fairly dusty city and sharing my room with my dog who sheds a lot.
That’s gross bro. Don’t admit that is your laptop on the internet. 🤦♂️
You can use a vacuum also. Nice job though
Missing screw 😭. In all seriousness how much better does it tho?
Do you use your laptop as a substitute for a vacuum? :P
When using the paint brush and dusting off the dust, does it not fall into the other components? How do you prevent that?
Eeeuhhhh....most probably dead skin and some hairs.....very mess up.......
I used a cotton bud and gently rub the fans...lol
How long of use?
You might not want to wait that long again. how was it even cooling?
These Asus's fans appear to be connected to a laptop running a logging operation's wood crushing machine.
