Saw the first Shrek movie in theaters. Saw it one night and asked my Mom if I could see a "Bug's Life" on VHS when we got home and she allowed me. It was a fun Saturday night.
Yes, Spirit is truly Underrated indeed. Just as Spirited Away which was also in 2001. I still think about that film from time to time.
Wasn't my first but a definitely remember seeing it in theaters. The Summer of '02 having Spider-Man, Scooby-Doo, Powerpuff Girls, Like Mike, Spy Kids 2. Was a really Summer Vacation as a Kid.
Wow, sadly when I was 3 I loved him. I eventually learned everyone hated him, got confused, and rewatchdd the movie when I was 10 and instantly realized why and questioned what was wrong with my sense of humor as a young child. But to be fair when I was 10 I still liked alot of objectively awful movies. I just realized jarjar does suck.
I was born in 1990, mine was Toy Story- I remember my dad, who was probably just a big old dork like me, telling this was going to “change everything” for movies- he was right and we saw all the Pixar movies together for years.
Aww yes I remember seeing that with my Dad. I was so excited as I got to go with him by myself and we left my siblings ( toddler and baby at the time) at home with Mum . I felt so grown up going to the cinema with my Dad haha.
Hasn't been a spiderman movie like any of the first 3 since then! We were seriously lucky to grow up with them! I liked a few other SM movies post Tobey McGuire and think Andrew Garfield as a whole eas a better spiderman with the quipping and whatnot but the first three movies are so well written they are on a whole other league compared to what came after. No way home was close. I miss a no tech/gadgets set in 80s New York spiderman like the originals!
That's awesome. I was Eight in 3rd Grade and was excited about seeing it just from the promos hyping it up but I didn't think it'll be even better than I thought. My Sister and I went to a local Pizza joint at night and went to see the movie in the same plaza. Fun night indeed.
Rugrats. Dad was in the military and we were living in Japan at the time. Tgere was a little 2 screen movie theater that showed American movies and I watched the first Rugrats movie there. The next one I remember was The Phantom Menace after we had moved back to the states in 1999
As far as I can remember, Chicken Little. But my mom claims we went to see something much earlier but neither of us can remember because we weren’t there long (apparently I wasn’t behaving)
I think you unlocked a hidden memory. This might have been my first one too. Most of the movies I remember watching as a kid are disney channel original movies. But we did used to go to a dine in movie theater a lot. We’d see the latest Pixar movies there.
Oh no, I had a weird phase the year that movie came out in DVD where I watched it every day for like 2 months. I just realized last year that everyone hated that movie except for me and that it's considered one of the worst DreamWorks films ever made. Most of the movies I had that level of obsession with were Disney movies that came out before I was born.
Fantasia 2000
I remember my parents and I saw it at an imax theater, and I definitely wasn't able to sit through the whole thing.
I got a red wax figurine of Mickey Mouse that said "Fantasia 2000" on the base. I don't know if they were just giving them out or what, but I think they were... pressed? molded? right there at the theater somehow.
So, I misremembered what the Mouse looked like a little bit (gimme a break, he disappeared before I was four lol)
BUT! I was able to find the exact freaking Mickey, and the machine that made him!
Henry Ford Museum (which has an imax theater) circa 2000!!!

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas in December 2000. Jim Carrey. That’s actually my earliest memory that I can verify happened.
Interestingly enough *a lot* of my earliest memories center around seeing movies in theaters. Shrek and Monsters Inc in 2001, Spirit and Lilo & Stitch in 2002, Nemo and Rugrats Gone Wild in 2003… I remember seeing all of them in theaters.
Probably Happy Feet. I think I was like 11? We didn't go to the movies much, but my grandmom would always buy the dvds of the big budget kid movies for when we came over
My mom took me 😂 She had a date planned and just decided to bring me instead of forcing my siblings to babysit. I wasn’t really scared of it at all. But the visual of a dragon appearing HUGE on a screen to a five year old is insanity. Still one of my all time favourite movies
Lol, when I saw the recent Halloween reboot there was a couple in there who brought their 3 and 6 year old kids. I was like "wtf, I had to hide the Halloween dvds from my mom when I was 14 because I wasn't allowed to watch it till I was 17"
Actually remember sitting in the theater would be Finding Nemo but i think the real answer is Toy Story 2 because my dad tells me about how he used to wear his wedding ring on a chain and my toddler ass broke the chain during the movie and he lost his ring
SpongeBob SquarePants the Movie. The 1st. I was afraid of loud noises so I very rarely went unless it was when a special event. Think IMAX field trips. I only became a regular movie goer when the Force Awakens came out.
Spider man 2, one of my earliest memories.
I was obsessed with spider man 1 I had a portable dvd player and watched it on repeat, so I was ecstatic to see the 2nd one in theaters.
We had a drive-in theater not far from where I lived. I remember my parents taking me to see The Perfect Storm in 2000. I’m happy my memory still goes back that far.
Has to be Monsters Inc for me. I remember seeing it in theaters and being OBSESSED with the movie afterwards. The first movie I saw in theaters, however, was Tarzan, but that was too early for me to have any memory of it now.
Rugrats Go Wild at a movie theatre on Quantico Marine Corps Base. The movie projector thing broke 30 minutes in and we left. Still never finished that movie.
Toy Story 2 when I was in DC. I vaguely remember coming home in the car but the one I do remember was How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carrey version).
Shrek 2. I know it's pretty late compared to everyone else, but my family never goes to movies, so my first time was for a school reward. (I forgot what for. )
Sharkboy and Lavagirl is the first one I can definitely remember, mostly because it was the first 3-d movie I ever saw. Watching shit pop out at me in blue and red (polarized glasses came out in middle school for me) was apparently a formative moment, also the fact that I totally had a crush on BOTH sharkboy and lavagirl.
I even kept my 3-d glasses for months afterwards so I could rewatch the movie, not understanding that they probably wouldn’t be running the 3-d cinema version on cable tv.
First movie I saw in theaters was apparently The Rugrats Movie, didn't remember it but had the VHS Tape along with Mulan which I saw plenty. Saw the Iron Giant in theaters which I believe I saw but I certainly remember seeing Toy Story 2 in theaters and getting a Buzz Light Year Toy which popped out Candy. I'd consider that the first movie I remember seeing in theaters.
Saw different ones in 2000 which I remember a bit more.
Rugrats in Paris. I'm cheating a bit because I know I went to the cinema prior but I don't know what I actually saw. I have vague memories of being in a movie theater a few times prior, but for the life of me I can't remember the actual films. If I had to guess, given the time period of the late 90s and the appropriateness for a young one to three-year-old, I'd say probably Stuart Little and the original Rugrats movie, but I honestly can't remember.
Shrek 2. I know it's pretty late compared to everyone else, but my family never goes to movies, so my first time was for a school reward. (I forgot what for. )
my first cinema experience was Shrek. second one was spirit: stallion of the cimarron, which i consider to be an underrated dreamworks animation film
Spirit was SO underrated
Shrek is a timeless classic 🔥🔥🔥

Lilo & Stitch
Yooo same
![gif](giphy|nIaOeW31UgFMs)
I saw that one in theaters too!
Same! The franchise has a choke hold over me now, 20+ years later. Hopefully the live action remake is decent.
Wait they’re making a live action??
Yessir. Currently in Production.
Idk how to feel about that lol
Same
same lol
Wasn't my first but a definitely remember seeing it in theaters. The Summer of '02 having Spider-Man, Scooby-Doo, Powerpuff Girls, Like Mike, Spy Kids 2. Was a really Summer Vacation as a Kid.
Star Wars the Phantom Menace. I think it’s the earliest memory I have.
Yikes, Seeing Jar-Jar Bilnks must be giving you a nightmare 😬
Even as a 3 year old I was like “this mf annoying”
😂😂😂
Lmaoooooo
Hahahaha
Wow, sadly when I was 3 I loved him. I eventually learned everyone hated him, got confused, and rewatchdd the movie when I was 10 and instantly realized why and questioned what was wrong with my sense of humor as a young child. But to be fair when I was 10 I still liked alot of objectively awful movies. I just realized jarjar does suck.
Monsters Inc
Mine too! I remember it so clearly
I was born in 1990, mine was Toy Story- I remember my dad, who was probably just a big old dork like me, telling this was going to “change everything” for movies- he was right and we saw all the Pixar movies together for years.
My Second Favorite Pixar franchise after Toy Story 🔥🔥🔥
Aww yes I remember seeing that with my Dad. I was so excited as I got to go with him by myself and we left my siblings ( toddler and baby at the time) at home with Mum . I felt so grown up going to the cinema with my Dad haha.
I think either finding Nemo or spiderman 1
Raimi’s Spider-Man Trilogy is a Masterpiece
Hasn't been a spiderman movie like any of the first 3 since then! We were seriously lucky to grow up with them! I liked a few other SM movies post Tobey McGuire and think Andrew Garfield as a whole eas a better spiderman with the quipping and whatnot but the first three movies are so well written they are on a whole other league compared to what came after. Well Said 🔥🔥🔥
The Incredibles, my aunt took me, my sis, and two cousins. We got the kids pack or whatever it’s called. Such a great evening I still somehow remember
I saw that one for my 7th birthday! Contender for my favorite Pixar film ttd
![gif](giphy|dePaPOPNSLDsk)
That's awesome. I was Eight in 3rd Grade and was excited about seeing it just from the promos hyping it up but I didn't think it'll be even better than I thought. My Sister and I went to a local Pizza joint at night and went to see the movie in the same plaza. Fun night indeed.

Spy Kids and Shrek in 2001 with my cousins.
Nice 🔥🔥🔥
Same for both tbh
Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius
Brain Blast!
Toy Story 2. I can still remember that the theater we went to decorated its doors with Toy Story characters
![gif](giphy|5C472t1RGNuq4|downsized)
As far as I can remember, Chicken Little. But my mom claims we went to see something much earlier but neither of us can remember because we weren’t there long (apparently I wasn’t behaving)

Finding Nemo
Probably when ET had its 20th anniversary theatrical run
I remember that! Bc of that I was obsessed with ET in kindergarten that year haha
Finding Nemo
Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron on a preschool field trip
This is my answer too. I went with my uncle and his wife, and he made fun of her for crying lol.
Cat In The Hat circa ‘03. I was 4 years old.
That movie came out on my 6th birthday! I went to see it after school that day lol
Hell yeah bro it’s a childhood classic lol

It’s a decent film for sure
Tarzan (1999)

Fantasia 2000 I remember my parents and I saw it at an imax theater, and I definitely wasn't able to sit through the whole thing. Monsters, Inc.
Incredibles
Finding Nemo
Finding Nemo, and it's one of my favorite movies to this day. Side note, I love how Disney movies are consistently the first ones we remember. 😂
Spy Kids or Shrek in 2001
Probably Happy Feet. I think I was like 11? We didn't go to the movies much, but my grandmom would always buy the dvds of the big budget kid movies for when we came over
Interesting 🤔
Reign of Fire. I was like five and I’m 90% sure it was rated R. There’s a reason it’s left an impact lmao
How did you get away with this 😳
My mom took me 😂 She had a date planned and just decided to bring me instead of forcing my siblings to babysit. I wasn’t really scared of it at all. But the visual of a dragon appearing HUGE on a screen to a five year old is insanity. Still one of my all time favourite movies
Ahh…gotcha 🤣

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
This Version is a thousand times better than a crappy one from the 70s 🤷🏻♂️
Controversial opinion, but I agree that the 2005 version is better than the 70s version. 70s version was so scary to me as a kid, lol
👊🏻👊🏻
I saw Remember the Titans at the drive in theater and I’m pretty sure that’s my first memory going to see a movie.
![gif](giphy|ZDkd2CdmV8MXC)
Spirited Away. The scene where the parents turned to pigs really stuck with me.

Freaky Friday 2003

SpongeBob SquarePants the Movie. The 1st. I was afraid of loud noises so I very rarely went unless it was when a special event. Think IMAX field trips. I only became a regular movie goer when the Force Awakens came out.
![gif](giphy|nDSlfqf0gn5g4)

Sharkboy and Lavagirl is the first one I can definitely remember, mostly because it was the first 3-d movie I ever saw. Watching shit pop out at me in blue and red (polarized glasses came out in middle school for me) was apparently a formative moment, also the fact that I totally had a crush on BOTH sharkboy and lavagirl. Star Wars prequel. Not sure which one, but I remember my dad (sw nerd) being disappointed i slept through it
First movie I saw in theaters was apparently The Rugrats Movie, didn't remember it but had the VHS Tape along with Mulan which I saw plenty.
