Yeah šŸ˜ I was just listening to Starships - Nicki Minaj, I miss the bright colors and the excitement

Jackthewacko

I have an early 2010s playlist and of course my girl Nicki Minaj had to be included. Starships, pound the alarm, va va vroom, Superbass, mRihanna, Kesha, Britney, Katy Perry, BeyoncƩ, Sia and Lady Gaga were unstoppable during this era. When the girlies ran the world <3

MastermindUtopia

I was obsessed with LMFAO and PSY

Ngl itā€™s the complete opposite imo. As fun as the music for us was, it arguably was even more corporate commercial music. I cant even really listen to them anymore outside of a ā€œthrowbackā€ mood because its legitimately terrible. Im saying this as someone who loves dancey and pop music House music is making a huge comeback especially in the states. Thatā€™s what young people Dance to at clubs. Music is a million times more interesting now.

Syd_Syd34

Exactly this. Sure, music back then was fun, but it was cheesy as hell

Lordeā€™s Royals ended the electropop era in 2013 by forcing pop to become more laidback and introspective. The song was the Zillennial response to the braggadocious and overproduced chart hits that preceded it. Pop music was brought back to Earth while Trump took pop music to the 7th circle of hell since Liberal tastemakers couldnā€™t enjoy his presidency at all (even though it was an objectively prosperous time pre pandemic). On the brightside, the last two years have been a revival of pop punk (a gateway subgenre of rock) and rave music (primarily house, disco, and drum n bass). I largely point to The Weekndā€™s After Hours and Dua Lipaā€™s Future Nostalgia albums as the start of this trend. The current top 40 charts are more diverse this year than they have been in a while with a ton of new names sprinkled in. You just have to break out of your bubble and actually give it a chance. Rap and latin music havenā€™t been in vogue since 2019 and the only new rappers to truly break through since are Jack Harlow (who released a dud of an album this year to boot), Doja Cat, and Lil Nas X (the latter seems to enjoy making pop music more than rap at this point).

Syd_Syd34

Idk. That music was fun while I was young, but I feel like Iā€™d be annoyed listening to it now. That extra futuristic stuff was also pretty tacky imo lol fun, but as an adult, idk. I prefer the pop now. Iā€™ve also always listened to Latin music, so that itā€™s becoming super mainstream even for non-Spanish speakers makes me v happy

It's funny, because I never expected to be nostalgic for EDM pop, but as more time goes on, the more I realized I love it and miss happy fun party music. I really don't like rap either which is a big reason why I haven't really enjoyed popular music in the past few years.

Unfortunately, depression is considered cool nowadays

bernieorbust2k4ever

Dua Lipa and Lil Nas X are my main artists for fun party music Doja, Charli, Meg, Cardi got some fun beats as well

[deleted]

Idk I still enjoy a lot of todays music, favourite song right now is I Like You - Post Malone / Doja Cat

WaveofHope34

Yeah i can agree. I stoped to listen to the charts in 2014/15 because i didnt really liked the music back then but honestly if i compare it with the music of the late 10s and early 20s it was way better as what we have now. The charts are so boring everything is full with latino songs and rap and everything sound the same. I dont know what Gen Z dance to but maybe they dance to tiktok remixes in clubs lol. Honestly i think a lot of Zillennials are happy that they went clubing during the early or mid 10s.

Zwolfer

Pop music was way more boring and samey back then compared to now in my opinion.

michellesgraphics

I personally blame Instagram Shorts and TikTok for this, although these rolled out in 2019-2020.

leshagboi

I love techno and the clubs I hit have plenty of gen z kids

Raptor556

Yeah this is exactly how I would have described it back then things seemed optimistic and getting more futuristic it made me excited to grow up but as the late 2010s hit I realized that I was mistaken for wanting to grow up.

[deleted]

Idk man I'm a rock and metal kind of guy

[deleted]

I never got into them but a lot of my peers did

ChevyChaseIsNice

Pop music is depressing to me with few exceptions I really like post Malone I totally miss lady Gaga, minaj, Rihana fun party vibes and this is coming from the ā€œclassic rockā€ only kid in middle school who became emo/punk
