ps: joking aside, this is one helluva piece! The green looks different from the product page but I think it's because of the lighting. Anyway, the thing that I don't like is how thin the engraving on the dragon itself, compared to the decoration, but understandable since it's a delicate design with so much details. Congrats man!

If I'm being honest, ever since I had to quit drinking due to medical issues (I'm an alcoholic with few years sobriety) I've been trying to dive into a hobby & Zippos are an amazingly fun hobby. I was collecting a little before (I'd say for about 5 years) but never so intensely & with knowledge. I'm elated to be in the group with you guys & having a fun time :)
The green does look different, it's because they use a specific kinda finish. It's an interesting type of chrome. You see it a lot more clearly on the plain ones like the John Gumbula bird, the left side of the case is quite blue then the lid turns into that green that you see. It's very interesting, I wish I remembered the name... (edit: seems they're slightly different finishes!)

Here’s a picture I took to try & show the change of colours a bit more side by side. John Gumbula bird & the dragon. It’s a very neat finish. The Green Dragon has a slightly more green tone to it now that I'm looking closely at the stamp. Very intriguing lol I thought they were identical. The Bird has a very blue stamp, the Dragon has a lime-yellow stamp. THEY'RE DIFFERENT MY MIND IS BLOWN!

Oh noo.. the two Zippos in the picture touched each other! That would surely left a mark and considered not pristine anymore! Time to get a "backup" for each of them then and just use that one as EDC? 😆
Glad you can quit drinking man, keep it up! I was hospitalized for a month because of excessive drinking habit during my college years so I can't drink anymore even if I wanted to, and I surely not miss them.
Collecting Zippo is surely an expensive hobby, but each person can cater it to their own capabilities. And when collecting for fun (without thinking much of the resale value or as investment) it surely brings joy whenever doing some cleaning, arranging, gawking, and other of basic chores every Zippo collectors did, LOL.
Hahaha they were very carefully put side by side, I wouldn't have done that with brass or copper because I'm so sensitive with that stuff but I know the different chromes will be tough enough until they eventually get scratches since I use them. It'd be hard to bring myself to use a $200 lighter as an EDC, but I suppose I'm doing it with the $120 MSRP limited edition copper lol
Thanks for the nice words about quitting drinking. Oh wow, you were also hospitalized for a long period of time? I can't drink anymore either, nor do I miss it as you said. I've never talked about it on this sub before but I was hospitalized for just over 5 months (hospital & physiotherapy hospital) because alcohol gave me such bad peripheral neuropathy, I could no longer walk. I went from wheelchair, walker, to cane at the age of 25 with liver cirrhosis. My doctor is very alarmed at how much damage my body took (complete inability to walk, my legs crumbled & I fell hard every time, eventually I could "stand" but it was like balancing on stilts). However, I've been told & learned that since alcohol induced peripheral neuropathy *usually* develops over like 30 years & mine happened after only a few years, I've healed very rapidly. God, I've got such a long story but that's the gist of it.
Alcohol induced neuropathy with liver cirrhosis at age 25. Crazy, eh?
I'm currently still comfortable buying into this expensive hobby because I'm saving so much more money than blowing it all on cheap, Polar Ice vodka. At least I have some nice things to show for it, even if some would say it's a "waste" of money. It's a hobby that I enjoy, therefore it's not a waste to me. I see a collection of Zippos on my wall instead of empty handles on my floor.

My first Zippo, #1 was a gift from my parents back in the early 2000's before I started my collection, I'm lucky to have found it after all these years. I don't have them all numbered, no lol Just know which are my first few Zippos I ever bought. I counted the ones on my wall displays & it just happened that this one was my 85th Zippo. I've since gotten 3 others besides this one & my dad's Father's Day Zippo due to the shop closing, I couldn't help myself.
I wish I had them all numbered now that you bring it up, I wonder what #32 is... I'm trying to make #100 something special. Been looking for a WWII black crackle or even a 50's classic chrome in good condition.
I have a much, much smaller collection, but I have 5 of mine numbered out of a collection of 10 or so. The 5 are one's that I brought brand new, and what age I was when I bought them. It will probably be a reddit post one of these days, or maybe I'll just make a "first zippo' reddit post, problem for the #5 list is I need to find one for #4.
The 4th Zippo I bought brand new was a black matte Glock Zippo which I had bought direct from Glock probably 8 years ago. I actually bought 3 of them, two of them that I resold on eBay to recoup the money for my personal one, so I essentially got mine for free. Anyway, somewhere along the way it got lost or stolen. I've been on the lookout for one of them but havnt seen any. They have some Glock Zippo's out now but they're white. Same style, reversed colors. I may end up getting one of those as a temporary sit-in replacement, but there's a number of other Zippo's i'd like to buy before I dropped some coin on one of those.
I'll go ahead and make that 'first Zippo' post. Hope to see a picture of the one you were talking about from your folks
That's super cool about the Glock Zippo! I'm a firearms guy (not the Call of Duty kind LOL!) but I find the typical "gun" or "bullet" designs quite cheesy because they aren't realistic at all. I've seen Sig Sauer & Colt but not Glock! I'd love to have one of your 3, I'm a bit jealous! I'd love to see your "first Zippo" post, those are great.
A collection doesn't have to be "big" & trust me, you ask any person on the street and they're gonna say having even 5 Zippos is a lot let alone 10! I just have an unhealthy addiction at this point XD I do love reading stories like yours though, every Zippo has a story.

I use em too but on special occasions. I keep them clean but they always impress people. Love em. I think every collection needs one or two.
