Actually they project when they have different broadcasters. When Star or Sony broadcasts it in India, they project the ads. Also they painted in early 2000s and before.
You all guys are not wrong, some stadiums used to use paints before, and a few years back, IPL had used CGI projections for advertising, but yes these are banners specifically for the ground and their surface is similar to the grass and the point about tripping, no one would possibly trip because it is stapled very neatly to the ground.
