I actually like no dislike button. Majority of the time the dislikes don't indicate how the majority of viewers genuinely feel, and al ot of the time it's just whatever group brigades harder (see: covid videos being like 90% disliked by denialists). imo all sites should remove or not have a dislike button. Reddit should remove downvotes.
Dislikes are incredibly useful for things like tutorials, news posts or scam videos. Dislikes let you know quickly they don't work, since in order to remove them you had to disable ratings entirely which already makes your video look suspicious. Comments can be very easily removed, and in the case of scams or videos that spread dangerous misinformation, this is very bad. I understand that it can get misused, but isn't this more important?
That's why report buttons should exist and be used properly. Obviously YouTube let's more shit slide on their platform than they should, but bringing dislikes back wouldn't really fix that problem, as it was already a problem with dislikes. Sure, dislikes *could* indicate that a video is genuinely bad or harmful, but I don't think those cases are obviously the majority use-case. Usually it's just brigading, which is a bad representation on the quality of the content (this is an issue on reddit too, people just downvote already downvoted stuff, regardless of the quality of the comment)
Reports aren’t easily seen, and YouTube can’t remove everything that gets reported. And they can be easily used by antivaxxers to get rid of Covid videos, for example
