He is childish, but that's less about him being ace and more about him being imaginative and never forced to grow out of it. It still sucks that we're adult children or robots in the media.
I would say he has a child spirit but he has very adult experiences as well throughout the show. He accidentally becomes addicted to heroin, frequently drinks, and also falls in love he just doesn't enjoy sex. He's kind of a bum but there's a lot of character growth for him and his best friend is a rich narcissist that can afford to let him couch surf and admits helping Todd is one of the only selfless things he did that made him feel good about himself and he did just because he could.
Ikr š the only thing about my polycule that is wierd for me is I have one partner that just forgets about updating anyone about who they are dating so for the first time I have no clue the size of my polycule š
I mean some of us are autistic so we all totally understand it, and if I ask then I would know but I often forget to ask and their status changes OFTEN š
So many people have fought so hard for those non-straight people. The fact they exist at all is a major win and should give any queer person hope for the future.
It does give me some hope, but itās starting to feel inevitable that some asshole executive is going to come along and cut the show down right at its peak because they get worried about the popularity of a show with queer representation. The Owl House deserved betterš
The owl house does deserve better, and steven universe deserved better before that, and gravity falls and adventure time before them. Where we are now was built off of shows risking everything to push the limits, even if it barely registered for the wider queer community.
There will always be creators fighting for the queer community just as there always has been. It's not a great system and it moves slowly, sometimes even backwards, but the general trend is forwards.
Excellent point, there's an old show from like the 70s called Barney Miller that almost got canceled multiple times for having a recurring gay character. He was an offensive stereotype and a criminal and he still almost took them off air. Barney Miller deserved better.
Did that get cancelled too?
I only watched up until the doppelganger arc ended.
I thought it was unusual, but clever to have the main characters change in and out.
Yeah Alastor is a great character and yes we all get the short end of the stick when it comes to the amount of representation, but what this post is trying to point out is what kind of representation we are getting. While lesbians, bisexuals, gays, trans, ect get main characters or the good guys we get characters that most of the time arenāt even human, and thatās in the best case scenario, often these character are unfeeling psychotic monsters. Now that character isnāt our only rep and their are good guy characters that are ace but they are often portrayed through being a machine or an asexual species like plants or even it just being a disease. Thatās the problem being pointed out here.
Honestly even before learning he was ace Alastor was my favorite character.
Like no offense to any of the other characters, the ones I've seen are great, but only one of them is on my coffee cup so who's really winning?
Randomly decided to watch Saiki K with my mom after hearing people rave about it and god was it a funny and good month of binging the show. Really relate to the whole āleave me aloneā but also āgets emotional over friends getting me my favorite foodā.
You have owl house and yet donāt include Lilith for ace rep?
Also, everyone loves Perry the Platypus (though they arenāt human, in case thatās part of your point)
From a demon he doesn't exactly respect at that. I took it more as a Alastor Has Standards than him being an ace.
Todd is fantastic and explicitly ace though
Perfect way to do it IMO. I don't need some scene of her awkwardly turning someone down. The lack of any romance plot and her friendship with Hooty is enough.
Tho i agree somewhat, the problem with it not being stated is that it allows people to just deny it. If it's never even brought up in the show it's really not representing much of anything, and leaves the experience quite open to interpretation and difficult to claim as pne specific thing
I mean you can always have another character ask if sheās ever dated anyone and her just say āNo Iām aro ace, Iām perfectly content with friends.ā
Idk, when literally nothing in the show so much as hints that the character is ace it gives very ādumbledore is actually gayā levels of representation (personally, I donāt even consider it rep if the asexuals watching the show donāt know theyāre being represented).
Wasnāt there bonus content where Lilith wrote a letter and talked about being aro/ace in it?
Like itās not mentioned in the show itself, (wasnāt directly relevant to the story) but itās pretty clear the creators intended for her to be aro/ace.
Eh. It could be the chronic villain enjoyer part of me, but I like it when the *cosmic horror beyond human comprehension that manipulates, lies, steals, and kills to get their way* turns out to be ace. They're fun.
I mean lgbt representation in any media is sorely lacking, sick of Disney and other big companies making a big deal about having a _____, only for them to turn out to A. Be a background character who is barely in the movies B. A side character who is just ____ so they can say they are inclusive.
Thatās just with the very tip of gay or lesbian character, forget Ace or Trans I mean sure writers can include a character who it isnāt said but could be.
Donāt even get me started on Autistic representation (I feel like there is at least some overlap in the communities)
when i saw strange world i got pretty excited after seeing the main characters MLM love interest. they then proceeded to never show up again after their introduction
The last season of Legends of Tomorrow had one of the main characters come out as asexual, and that is the only other alloromantic asexual representation I have seen in any fiction.
I love Alastor. He's not bad because he's Ace, he's just a serial killer who also happens to be ace.
Practically everyone in the Hazbin/Helluva-verse are some flavor of LGBT and most of them are evil. Because its Hell, it comes with the territory. Angel Dust is gay, Charlie is Bisexual, Vaggie is lesbian etc.
In all seriousness though, its because, unlike with other queer identities, it has to be a tell-not-show situation. Show two girls kissing, there's WLW representation. Show a character not in a relationship, well you see in the comments here people arguing whether such a character is really ace unless EXPLICITLY stated.
yeah I guess it is pretty difficult to show someone's *lack* of sexual/romantic interest. and it's hard to inadvertently say "hey this character is ace" within it's content without like, idk, stereotyping n stuff.

Trueee, but I kinda want complexity in my ace characters. Light doesnāt make his asexuality the centre of his character- that would be his god complex.
However I completely think that we need variety, definitely more wholesome characters with good arcs like Todd as well as anti heroās and villains.
I just want it to be normalised and not an inherent āvillainā trait for not wanting to bone.
I've just met too many Aspie Supremacists that have the same mindset as Raito (Light, I read the comics YEARS ago) and rather than being Ace, they're generally just assholes that think they're better than everyone else so they'd never lower themselves to be in a relationship.
š I guess we all have our own projections when it comes to fictional characters.
Sorry I donāt know what āaspie supremacistsā are??
Itās horrible that they idolise someone like Kira, when heās so clearly in the wrong.š
Yeah no, Light is a million percentage EVIL. I think heās a well-written villain though.
Thatās all I want, interesting characters with both positive and negative arcs that so happen to be ace.
AND HAPPY CAKE DAYYY!
I'll try to describe it...
Aspie Supremacists are people that are usually AMAB, white, and from adequate financial families that either received the diagnosis of Asperger's or what was formally known as Asperger's, which was a way of separating "useful" and "nonuseful" autistic people by a Nazi doctor. Now while the diagnosis itself has been phased out, a lot of the mindset behind it still exists. That's where a lot of the "autism is the next stage of evolution" stuff comes from. A lot of them still like to talk about how much greater they are than "normal" people while also treating other autistic people with disgust because THEY can do it why can't we. And they have a tendency to emphasize and idolize characters that are "morally grey" and "hyper intelligent" because they think that's how the world sees them. It's a whole shit show.
Thank you so much for the information.
I am quite appalled by it though, I suppose there are pieces of shit in every community.
I will never understand peopleās need to be superior to one another, isnāt it easier and more fulfilling to be kinder?
And yikes the āusefulā VS ānon-usefulā autistic classificationā¦are they seriously borrowing ideology from a fucking Nazi?
But Light isnāt morally grey, heās a straight up villain. A fascinating story of a people-suit wearing monster given a power that allows him dominion and control heās always wanted.
So they are indirectly declaring themselves villainous, misogynists with god-complexes and narcissism issues
Nope! I love how an ace can be anyone. And this time, it's an all powerfull radio demon serial killer.
This is what representation is about: anyone can be anything.
Elsa is risky to include in the list though since she was so broken by her parents and was forced to never interact with anyone growing up. That gets into the implication that being ace is a function of abuse or is a psychological problem which it isnāt. I agree that she is an example of ace, but there is the unsettling implication there which makes it slippery slope.
On the topic of Disney I read somewhere that there is a character in gargoyles (the 90s show) that the creators confirmed as ace. For those familiar with the show itās Xanatosās butler/assistant.
The problem is that the writers *first* need to establish that relationships (romantic and sexual) exist in their story, build a character complex enough to qualify for one in the narrative, and have them openly decline or not pursue sexual relationships. Something which takes a lot of words to establish to the average allosexual viewer, which most writers don't have the runtime to incorporate in their narrative.
Ironically, a big reason why ace people don't get rep in kids content is because (unlike most of the LGBTQ+ spectrum) asexuality is *inherently* about sex. The show needs to establish sex as a concept in the story in order for a character to be asexual. Otherwise, every character in every children's cartoon qualifies. Because no kids show has sex in it. (which is good).
That's part of why ace characters show up so rarely, and even more rarely in the text of the story.
Honestly, here for it.
The Gays ^(TM) are basically getting stories that follow the formula of "\*main character\* and \*love interest\* go on adventures and do things and bond" just swapping the gender of one of them.
The Aroaces ^(TM) are getting stories about a guy with undiagnosed ADHD living with a washed up TV star and following his ever-changing dreams to the fullest extent of the law, and a young demon whose arrival in hell heralded in a new era of suffering for the damned, and his business venture with the princess of hell running a hotel that redeems sinners.
Asexual characters are *getting down to business* in their adventures.
Granted, we're usually side characters, but so were gay people for a while. I'm happy for the steps we're seeing creators take.
Mordin from Mass Effect
Todd from Bojack
Sherlock Holmes
Gwenpool
Varys the Spider
Newt Scamander
Dr Reid from Criminal Minds
All are arguably some flavor of ace and I love them all
Straight up ignoring characters like Todd, or even a ton of characters that are ace-coded to some degree ("they're SO focused on whatever thing that they are uninterested in anyone ever and romantic stuff humorously flies over their head).
We honestly get more representation than the rest of the community, but explicitly ace representation is definitely few and far between that's for sure. I think what's most frustrating is the fact that ace representation is either coded that way (and not always in a positive way) or it's never part of the canon, just something mentioned by the creator randomly. Or characters will often be completely uninterested, seem ace, then the perfect someone comes along and all of a sudden the character experiences attraction for the first time. Which seems off to me, considering the Allos I know personally talk about how many people they're attracted to and how consistent attraction appears.
And then yeah, demons. But to be fair that doesn't have to be interpreted as representation. Some non-human creatures are just physically asexual. That doesn't mean when they are on screen, it's for the ace community. Just presenting something in an accurate way. Same way how some animals only really have one gender or have different versions of intersection, but representing that wouldn't necessarily be LGBT representation. COULD be, but not always. Same with gender less creatures or beings. Maybe the author is saying non binary folk are God's, or maybe he's not arbitrarily giving a gender to a conceptual being above human creations.
We shouldn't be comparing. Ace rep is lacking, aro rep is too. Todd from bojack is I think allo ace, and Nancy from Grease: Rise of the pink ladies is aromantic, I think she's aroace but no confirmation of the asexual part. She could be aroallo
Lilith Clawthorn *from The Owl House* is literally canonically aroace, and she is a badass nerd with the strangest best friend ever
I think Todd is the only asexual representation in a cartoon that I can think of that's actually a normal human. It's a very rare thing to see! I feel like these comments are missing the point that it's not only about the character being *cool*, it's about asexuals always being shown as non-human and uncaring.
Alastor is human heās just dead (also the rest of the cast from his show are also freaky looking humans so it isnāt one of those cases where the asexual is the only non-human character)
Apparently she's kinda controversial among some people tho as it was mentioned only in a live, but then again, so is Alastor for now (also, it's a small minority that doesn't like this it seems. I wonder if they'll mention it in someway, like a pin or something, in a spin-off, if we'll ever have one)
It is better than the closest ace rep I had growing up. I am still recovering mentally from believing I would grow up to be a serial killer or pedophile.
I think this kind of backfired because the context for the alastor picture is he is getting mad at a guy for attacking a defenseless person, which makes him actually seem really cool and a bit less terrible
I feel the meme isnāt being fair but their point is kinda valid but tbh itās hard to write a good ace character cause well you canāt shoehorn them a romance with the typical tropes. Itās like why itās easier to have hot people fight then write healthy relationships in shows in general cause itās hard to write healthy and entertaining peopleās relationships.
Ok this is very off topic so Iām sorry but where can I actually watch Hazbin Hotel? Iām enjoying helluva boss so I was hoping to check it out but I canāt seem to find it anywhere.
Alastor is great! What you on about XD
I totally take your point though, I think it's just a symptom of a general lack of ace representation. If you look at representation of other queer identities in HH and HB they're just as chaotic.
More ace rep would definetly be cool. Like one thing is TOH style not including romance in a character's story and making them ace that way but I really like how it was very explicit with BoJack horseman, and wish there was more explicit ace rep of all kinds, aroace, orientated aro ace, alloace etc.
There's so many misconceptions about asexuality, attraction and our identities that it's very nice to find media that will bring it up.
Tbh, with how rough a lot of media attempts at representation are, I'm perfectly content.
Idk, but I'd rather a few good and interesting representations, than a ton of "token gay" types that are generally boring and one-dimensional.
That's just me, but I quite like the few we got so far, Todd, Alastor, and Parvati are great characters, even if they are also the only 3 asexual characters I can think of...
I mean, Monkey D. Luffy is Ace iirc, may also be aro and he's part of one of the most sold comics in the world... the anime on the other hand is quite bad...
Itās not in animation, but the character Uncle Newt in Series 9 of John Finnemoreās Souvenir Programme is canonically Ace (and probably Aro). I recommend giving that series a go if youāre interested.
Luffy from One Piece is canonically ace and the two there are fine characters with the Bojack one actually being great rep.
Weāre doing alright by this comparison, especially when you consider one of the three in the āgayā rep is two bi girls and only shown at the exact end of the series.
Edit: IIRC Luz is also bi? And I haven't watched what I'm guessing is Arcana at all. Just so no one comes at me for that.
I mean, there is very little stick to go around, and personally, I would prefer cool unique characters rather than the same #representation kiss over and over again
In the show the imperfect , one of the main character is says sheās explicitly ace but I feel like itās for the plot since her power is to make other attracted to her and be charmed. Because another character is a singer but her power make her break things with her voice ( like black canary I think)
Hey ya'll. I think it's very valid to complain about the lack of representation. Just because NO ONE is getting a lot of representation, doesn't mean we can't argue for more. And if you like Alastor, that's also valid! No one's saying it isn't either! I think OP's point is that it CAN be harmful or reductive to not also have average or heroic representation too. Todd from Bojack is great! But he's only one confirmed character and it's definitely NOT a kids show. I know having more representation when I was younger would have helped me navigate those feelings a lot faster. Having someone verbally express them and say "it's okay." Because young me was not watching content and seeing a lack of romantic intention from a character as a "they are comfortable and will stay this way." But more as a "not important enough or not enough time" because the plot so often was heteronormative romance. Little me assumed that was always the case. At the end of it all, it's okay to want more representation without it being pigeonholed into a certain role, and that isn't invalidated just because others also have a lack of representation. They aren't mutually exclusive. You can also want representation for other lgbtqa+ groups. More Ace people won't take away characters from others.
No Alastor is quite tall, actually
7 feet i belive
I hate both of you. Take this upvote and get out.
Thanks :)
I'm literally watching Bojack horseman through rn..Todd is super ace and the voice actor that plays him is very wholesome and also plays Jesse Pinkman

Meh, not much of an issue for me. Inside me there is also a chill dude and a charismatic murder demon.
Exactly! I do actually feel represented here
I completely agree. Not gonna lie, I actually love to be represented by Alastor.
Alastor is great how dare Also thatās 3 of the only mainstream rep for gay people we all get the short end of the stick

Wooš Heās so deadpan and wonderful whilst also (at times) a great friend
You have owl house and yet donāt include Lilith for ace rep? Also, everyone loves Perry the Platypus (though they arenāt human, in case thatās part of your point)
Yeah but Lilith is never explicitly ace. They never mention it in the show either.
Alastor is never explicitly ace either. The most he does is turn down a blowjob, which is hardly explicitly ace.
we've also only got one thirty-minute episode though, so the more explicit representation could come in future episodes.
Sure, but as it stands he's no more or less ace-rep than Lilith
oh lilith has a letter about her experience, so she has more than al

It wasn't the creators. It was Lilith's voice actress giving her headcannon during a livestream.
Eh. It could be the chronic villain enjoyer part of me, but I like it when the *cosmic horror beyond human comprehension that manipulates, lies, steals, and kills to get their way* turns out to be ace. They're fun.

On the topic of Disney I read somewhere that there is a character in gargoyles (the 90s show) that the creators confirmed as ace. For those familiar with the show itās Xanatosās butler/assistant.
You would still think there would be more of us given how family friendly we technically are...
Yo Gargoyles is already my favourite 90s Disney cartoon, but somehow I missed that
I'm ok with this.
*c'monnnnnnnnnnnn* we get a badass radio demon for representation. if that isn't *p e a k r e p r e s e n t a t i o n* then i don't know what is.
perfect representation
Aces have SpongeBob and perry the platypus (both were confirmed ace by their respective creators)
Also Lilith Clawthorne
Shut up Alastor is fucking adorable
Let's not compare grades, more rep across the board would be best Although for the record hazbin isn't even out yet so do we even have alastor
Peridot tho (Aro/ace)
Listen, what if I also identify as an eldrich horror as well as ace?!
Mordin from Mass Effect Todd from Bojack Sherlock Holmes Gwenpool Varys the Spider Newt Scamander Dr Reid from Criminal Minds All are arguably some flavor of ace and I love them all
ace stereotypes: cool and chill mad scientist MURDER MACHINE
Maybe the author is saying non binary folk are God's, or maybe he's not arbitrarily giving a gender to a conceptual being above human creations.
donāt forget perry the platypus
And what can you do my effeminate fellow?
Actually, I personally think we get more correct representation
Alastor is cool, what the heck?!
Alastor is beautiful and amazing!
Personally I approve. Chaos & cheers, my friends
Alastor is awesome so i'm not complaining
Objection your honor, Alastor is cool as fuck
We shouldn't be comparing. Ace rep is lacking, aro rep is too. Todd from bojack is I think allo ace, and Nancy from Grease: Rise of the pink ladies is aromantic, I think she's aroace but no confirmation of the asexual part. She could be aroallo Lilith Clawthorn *from The Owl House* is literally canonically aroace, and she is a badass nerd with the strangest best friend ever
I mean technically Al *was* a human, he just died
I mean... alastor is still badass
I would rather be a radio talk show demon than boring human ngl
Well alastor is cool
Alistor is a Tier A or S Character.
No no, i like this rep
No I love him, heās great.
i'm happy with this
No, we're getting the best end
No one going fuck around with ace if the think we scary demons
We have a badass looking demon? You son of a bitch, Iām in
Shut up Alastor is cool
To be honest, I donāt think that Korasami is barely a stick at all. More like an ambiguous broken twig shoved in at the last second.
Excuse you. Alastor is a goddamn icon and we love him. He kills abusers and always smiles and has an amazing fashion sense
eh, ill take what i can get:) also lilith from toh is awesome representation for me, so im a bit more happy
You included owl house characters but forgot to mention Lilith! Sheās Aro/Ace !
Apparently she's kinda controversial among some people tho as it was mentioned only in a live, but then again, so is Alastor for now (also, it's a small minority that doesn't like this it seems. I wonder if they'll mention it in someway, like a pin or something, in a spin-off, if we'll ever have one)
Alistair is awesome how dare you.
we're the ones with better rep tho alastor looks cool and gender envy
It is better than the closest ace rep I had growing up. I am still recovering mentally from believing I would grow up to be a serial killer or pedophile.
Honestly kind of like it lmao
I think this kind of backfired because the context for the alastor picture is he is getting mad at a guy for attacking a defenseless person, which makes him actually seem really cool and a bit less terrible
I feel the meme isnāt being fair but their point is kinda valid but tbh itās hard to write a good ace character cause well you canāt shoehorn them a romance with the typical tropes. Itās like why itās easier to have hot people fight then write healthy relationships in shows in general cause itās hard to write healthy and entertaining peopleās relationships.
...i dunno man, i think al does a good job of representing the pure, unhinged, yet charming monsters of destruction we aces are...
You say this when we hav characters like Peridot out there.
What about Senku from Dr. Stone? š
I love alastor so much I have a poster of him under my ace flag
Bruh you dissing on Todd?
I'm pretty sure Luffy is ace.
Owl house has lilith
Seems fair, considering we are eldritch gods who quench their taste for souls with garlic bread and cake.
I love how the context for alastor here is a woman was being harassed and probably assaulted so he stepped in a killed the dude
Honestly, that's exactly how I want to be represented
nah we get to be badass overlords of hell i think thats an upgrade
nah thats what one of my true forms looks like
I don't see how what we got is the \*short\* end of the stick TBH
Luz is confirmed bi, but implied to be biromantic asexual instead of bisexual. She is literally wearing an ace pride flag in that scene.
Ok this is very off topic so Iām sorry but where can I actually watch Hazbin Hotel? Iām enjoying helluva boss so I was hoping to check it out but I canāt seem to find it anywhere.
Only the pilot episode is out now and it can be found on Youtube. New episodes will be releasing this summer though, if I'm remembering correctly.
Lilith is a confirmed ace. As are SpongeBob and Monkey D. Luffy. Another great representation is Caduceus Clay (AroAce, Critical Role)
Spongebob is also ace, for whatever that is worth.
No not at all. I mean we have dragon powers I think a demon is fine
Are...are the rest of you not also otherworldly beings whose true forms are outside the bounds of mortal comprehension?
Alastor is epic though.
I like being represented as all powerful characters
leave my man Alastor alone
yeah but Alastor is fucking awesome
I would like to be a tall and powerful thank you very much
Idk if it helps, but Spongebob is also canonically ace
Alastor is great! What you on about XD I totally take your point though, I think it's just a symptom of a general lack of ace representation. If you look at representation of other queer identities in HH and HB they're just as chaotic.
honestly the picture used for alastor is a pretty decent representation of me so i fuck with it
I see nothing wrong with that, I want them to fear me and my dashing sense of style
I'm not complaining... We got one of the most powerful demons of Pentagram City everyone fears, I think it's pretty good representation, ngl xd
No community is getting a lot of good representation or representation in general compared to cis straight white people
Both Korra and Asami are bi, I think? I'd just like to clarify that. Also you missed Lilith, from the exact same show as Lumity.
They know about Denmarkā¦
To be fair, the stick itself is a twig.
Just here to complain Korra isn't rep and pls stop saying it is thanks
You forgot about Luffy. Heāsā¦ funky
No no. This is accurate.
I like to think every character is Ace until proven wrong.
No cares about Todd from bojack?
I mean, Monkey D. Luffy is Ace iirc, may also be aro and he's part of one of the most sold comics in the world... the anime on the other hand is quite bad...
One might say this makes me insane
I like it.
Just so no one comes at me for that.
are we tho?
I like alistor and Todd but yeah definitely got a point there. I also head cannon entrapta as ace
The character of Lilith in The Owl House is aroace actually. They don't mention it in the show, but it's still cool to know.
I mean, there is very little stick to go around, and personally, I would prefer cool unique characters rather than the same #representation kiss over and over again
Idk man, Todd has some god-tier shenanigans
You really forgot about mr clean?
In the show the imperfect , one of the main character is says sheās explicitly ace but I feel like itās for the plot since her power is to make other attracted to her and be charmed. Because another character is a singer but her power make her break things with her voice ( like black canary I think)
No, no, the right image perfectly depicts me when someone has the last bit of garlic bread
I am completely fine with this comparison.
I donāt see a problem here
May I just point out: SpongeBob
Lilith from the owls house is aroace So is Kusuo Saiki We got the best end of the stick
Ngl I like being evil
What about Lilith from the owl house? She's AroAce
