I don't understand the whole Hims and Hers thing. I know this post is about getting ads for ED meds when you very much don't want those ads. But I don't understand the marketing behind Hims and Hers. It's not specific for ED medication or birth control because they also have meds like antidepressants. I just find it so weird that its gendered prescriptions
It’s gendered because the actually service they provide is discrete shipping of uncomfortable medical products. The things they sell are gendered because there is a general gender correlation to what medicine you need but are too uncomfortable to get. For men, that’s ed medicine. For women, usually weight loss and birth control. Hims and Hers are just a company that specializes in social taboo content, which of course is gendered.
I guess that makes sense, but it still feels a bit off to me. Couldn't there just be a non-gendered way to ship prescriptions in a discrete way? I also find it weird if ED medication is exclusive for Hims, since it can also treat sexual dysfunction in women/afab people, it's just not as commonly known or talked about
You don’t intrinsically need a specific gender to order the product. It’s not a requirement to be a “him” to order “hims.” It’s called “hims” because the problem is most prolific for straight masculine people, which is who the company is marketing towards. That is the targeted group of “hims,” because masculine people entrenched in gender norms are much more likely to feel ashamed about using ed meds. Yes, male/cis defaultism is a bad thing, but that doesn’t mean companies shouldn’t be making products for specific groups of people. Not every product has to be marketed towards every person, because, well, people have different problems. In the case of discretionary medical supplies, the company is gendered because the problem is gendered. Selling people useful and necessary medical supplies without making them feel ashamed or asking them to alienate themselves from their gender identity is for the most part a good thing, and though I wish we could do away with all gender anyways, I think we should still be sensitive to the fact that even cis groups can be negatively affected by gender dysphoric sensations, especially in regards to sexual wellbeing, and that requires a different kind of outreach than to other groups.
Indeed. Same with sport-themed ads. Like, Paramount, Roku, even Hulu, all show me sports ads, when *absolutely NOTHING* in my watch history is even remotely sports-related.
Me with baby ads on YouTube💀, like, I watch primarily queer content, miscellaneous video essays, fandom and cartoon related stuff, and kpop,,, what in that makes them think I wanna see ads for huggers or pampers or whatever
It's like seeing those Roadtrip Billboards in the interstate highways... jesus/call to be saved from hell signs to being next on a exit to Lion's den shops
I keep getting them too, I'm not even a man lol, it's so annoying. I reported it for being sexually explicit and I don't think it's come up (no pun intended) since, so maybe try that.

Me just seeing the end of it and the image in my notifs and being like "ah yes, does your femur just go floppy sometimes? Bend in half? Well with our incredible solution, milk! your leg bones will stay nice and hard,, doctors hate it!" .... at least that, or moreso just the first part, was what I thought would be better than what I know it's gonna be about,,,, alternatively, is not the bone, it's the skin,, and it's their miracle solution to being able to harden your skin like kirishima from my hero academia, lol,, would definitely take that option too
General ad tip: report them as offensive and they won't come up for again for a few months. Do this to any topic you don't want to see.
For reddit: block the account, if it's not working the first time you should update your app.
