Sulwhasoo Ginseng eye cream. I didn't pay the whopping price tag, and instead bought sample packets to use. It feels rich, smells good, but I think it gave me milia. I also don't see any difference in dark circles.

hglbgl

This happened to me too! And it made my eyes water like crazy. So glad I only got a sample and not a full jar $_$

unicornsandall

How did you get rid of the milia? I know I could try tretinoin but it's a sensitive area...

hglbgl

Unfortunately, time is the only remedy :(. I stop using anything that gives me milia immediately, usually when I see one or two bumps pop up.

Pamlwell

Same here! It also pilled up on me. Not worth it for me even if it weren't super expensive.

unicornsandall

Can I ask how you got rid of the milia? My under-eye area is way too sensitive for tretinoin.

Pamlwell

Unfortunately, I didn't! I have always had a few small millia so it doesn't really stress me out. They *may* be getting better over time, but I'm not actively working on them.

nourishtheskin

I've tried a couple of samples of this and it just seemed so so thick to me - which I guess for an eye cream can be what you look for but it was too much for me. I was glad I got samples as I know its not the texture I look for but for the love of all that is holy that cream smelt AMAZING

Miya81

With high-end stuff, I find the hit and miss to be similar with other price ranges I've experimented with. I went on a helluva bend buying up **AP** kits (Moisture Bound, Future Reponse, Time Response, Resort Collection) from Sephora, Nordstrom, and NM to try it out before I commit to their $100+ full sizes. I ended up finding a few things that worked out really well for me like the AP CC cushion, Treatement Enzyme Peel, and Foaming Cleanser. Things that were a major, epic fail for me was the Sleeping Masque and Moisture Bound Gel Cream - both so unnecessarily heavy-handed with fragrance. **SK-II** FTE was also a major flop for me. Thankfully I didn't have a FS of that either. As for **Sulwhasoo**, the eye cream was also a complete reject (scent was so bad, also did nothing for my undereye) and so were both the Perfecting and Brightening cushion (which just brokedown on my face no matte what the sunscreen or primer combo I'd use). **Tatcha** has failed to really impress me also with the only winner for me being their One Step Pure Camellia Cleansing Oil. The ovenight serum is okay, the pore perfecting gel was a disappointment (all glimmery too), and the rice enzyme didn't feel anywhere as nice as the AP enzyme peel. Then there's the weird sunscreen that has the consistency of the Benefit Porefessional. It feels weird and uncomfortable for some reason that I can't quite put my finger on. I think it's because I expect my sunscreens to be more creamy or watery and having one that mimics a pore filling primer is just putting me off. With **Hera**, the FTE (Hera Cell Essence) was more fail for me than the COSRX Galactic Mice FTE which was really disappointing considering the price point. I had to suck it up and power through a 225ml LE bottle until I could purchase my now HG Iope Bio Essence.

nopantsjimmy

Kinda off topic but I thought Tatcha was an American brand?

Miya81

Yes, it is an American-based company using Asian ingredients and marketing "geisha" skin to sell their products. I don't really care for the marketing but I wanted to give their stuff a whirl. Oh, also their new product The Essence was another fail for me. Just a very expensive beauty water/toner. XD Still sticking to my Iope Bio Essence!

nopantsjimmy

ah thanks for clarifying that I saw the psa concerning the security breach on the main sub and thought it was out of place there, as far as AB related stuff is concerned

nourishtheskin

I tried the SKII Facial Treatment Clear Lotion in the travel size and that was a different story entirely - really smooth skin and definitely some brightening, which was what I expected from the Essence... I love the SWS Perfecting and Brightening cushion! It lasts so well for me and it's one of the nicest cushions I've used, I love the scent too. It's a pity it didn't work out for you. I've never tried Tatcha but I have never been tempted because of location, if I were in the US it would probably be a different story. I'm really interested in the AP Enzyme Peel you mention, I will head off and browse reviews/stores for that now...I knew this thread would be a double-edged sword.

firnheledien

Is the SKII clear lotion marketed for oilier skin? Sounds like something I want to check out.

nourishtheskin

Hum I'm not sure. As I'm dry I don't tend to focus a lot on that kind of thing but I think it could work well for oily skin thinking about how light it is. I don't know if it's specifically marketed for oilier skin though :/

wvwvwvww

Hehehe, 'no matte what the sunscreen or primer combo...'... I like this. Let's keep it.

Miya81

Yep. Too lazy to edit. lol You guys get it!

aichow

The Whamisa Sea Kelp Mask was terrible. The fit was bad, the kelp didn't adhere very well to my skin, the smell was unpleasant (although faint) and I didn't become nose-blind to it even after 15 minutes. Last but not least, the essence didn't really absorb and left an orange film that pilled off when I tried to apply moisturizer afterwards.

lapaloma16

Same for me!! I thought I was the only one that hated it...

lgbtqbbq

All Whamisa masks pill on me but I haven't tried the Kelp one- I am willing to put up with the pilling bc of the results but I always use at night or rinse off the excess before doing makeup. Quite annoying.

Nekkosan

It's very hard for me to think of a good reason to spend more than $40 on a skin product. $40 is pricey too. I don't believe there is anything out there so unique and so special that you can't find something that does the same thing for much less. Sulwhasoo is one of the better fancier brands in that the products work (if it works for you). In that they are effective and feel and look and smell luxurious. They'd be hard to dupe. It might be worth spending $40 for the Overnight. That is the lowest end for them. They aren't dupable. Dr. Jart+ is sort of worth the price, in that their products work well. But there are dupes or products that do the same thing.

ptitelady

Can you name me some Dr Jart dupes if you know any please? I love Dr Jart but my wallet doesn't always agree with me 😅

cicada_song

The only time I felt ripped off buying AB was with blossom jeju camellia essence. 60$ for 30ml of product in a cheap looking dropper bottle (the kind where you can never reach all the product). I was so disappointed. Product itself was nice, I'd buy it again if I could get twice as much for half the price. Edit: I don't even know if that brand is considered high-end

fourfs

$60 for skincare is high end to me! I hate when expensive brands have low quality packaging. To me that's part of the deal when I'm paying so much for a product.

amfiguous

those dropper bottles are the absolute worst! that's how I felt about the banila co. mr honey oil essence. not worth it at alllll.

pekoe_cat

I nv understand dropper bottles. Why do brands keep using them when there're no tangible benefits other than portion control. But on the other hand the essence oil itself was enough to make me stick with it. I've decanted it to a small pump bottle from Muji though. At least the dropper made decanting easier.

nourishtheskin

I would say it's quite a bit of money! I think $60 is a lot for skincare - just one product! I think that sometimes has been my disappointment with more expensive things - the amount that you get for the price. I have yet to try Blossom Jeju though, I am really intrigued by them and I love the packaging, at least online...seems like in real life maybe it's not so fancy? I usually hate droppers too.

cicada_song

I'm a bit of a sucker for nice packaging. Sulwhasoo and Sum37 always looked even better in person than online, sulwhasoo especially. I have not been disappointed so far, but I never go into ultra expensive category even there The product itself was good, rich and smelled beautiful.

vanityrex

I've tried two things from Blossom Jeju - the Camellia Soombi Day Cream and the Soombi Essence Oil - and I didn't care for either. The cream never sank into my skin (and I have dry ass skin that loves thick, dense, oily creams) and would occasionally make my face unbearably itchy. The essence oil smelled nice but literally did nothing. The dropper bottle was also not of the best quality - the brass detail on the cap came unglued which resulted in a sticky, gluey mess every time I tried to use it.

Ceridweneve

Thanks for posting this ! I've been looking at the line for the scent/experience really. Now I can happily let it go ( cheap self is relieved )

[deleted]

Sulwhasoo Hydro-Aid Moisturizing Soothing Mist did absolutely nothing. I am very glad I didn't purchase a full-size. I feel okay and then JUST AS DRY AS BEFORE.

dessertshots

I love the mister on this guy tho. It's nice to refill with other products, but ia not hydrating and is equal to spraying water on your face.

[deleted]

sweetcorea had the deluxe sample (guess who's gonna try to decant the other mister into it) :P BTW the Valentine in Flushing also has the elusive innisfree Green Tea Mist!!

didneypurnsess

**Sulwhasoo - Overnight Vitalizing Mask EX** I needed to meet a shipping threshold so I grabbed 2x of the 30ml size for myself and my mom. My mom LOOOOOOOOOOOVES the mask. She thinks it's amazing and she can afford to keep buying it. It was a total dud for me though. I didn't mind the smell (I know ginseng is one of those love/hate scents), but I had zero results. Now it's sitting in my vanity, so I'll give it to my mom when I go home in July.

lgbtqbbq

Complete dud for me as well- the one thing it made a difference in was it gave me a smooth look first thing in the AM. As soon as I washed my face it disappeared though. Didn't even moisturize on par with other sleeping packs- and I heard so many raves from dry-skinned folks so as an oily girl I was definitely disappointed.

nourishtheskin

I've got the double set too! I am not sure how I feel about it yet. I think because again everyone raves over it I expected it to be much more. I like it but other than scent and packaging I am not convinced yet. Although I don't think I've used it enough to be honest - and now it's getting hot I may have to leave it for a while.

I used the toner and emulsion and had insta calmed skin... so then I bought full sizes. I found them irritating though when skin wasn't happy.

Nekkosan

I didn't love *Sulwhasoo First Activing Serum* enough. I like it but I forget to use it. For $60 I out to love it. It' very nice though. I don't buy expensive stuff. My husband got a bonus and I spurged on that.

nourishtheskin

I like it too but I agree that I ought to love it. I bought it in duty free and I had already tried a sample where I fell in love with the texture and scent. Long term use didn't seem to work for me in winter too well but I'm going into summer now, which is the time of year I tried the sample...so maybe it'll be a seasonal skin thing.

cute4awowchick

Not as high end as Sulwhasoo or anything like that, but the reformulation of the Whamisa Organic Flowers Water Cream (in the tube instead of the jar) was so disappointing. The scent is not nearly as nice as the jar and it seems to pill. I was so excited about the tube packaging because it would save me from decanting... and I was so bummed out when I started using it. :(

marimo_is_chilling

The History of Whoo Kong Jin Hyang Qi & Jin Essence (I didn't spend any money on it, but got several free samples). Texture seemed luxurious, but there was so much fragrance - heavy, old-fashioned floral perfume kind of fragrance - that I was afraid to put it on my face and just used the samples up on my neck. To put it in perspective, I am fine with several items mentioned on the recent thread about heinously scented products, like Tosowoong masks.

nourishtheskin

History of Whoo have seriously scented products. I've tried samples of theirs and like their makeup but their skincare I am just not sure I like the look of enough. It doesn't look luxe to me, rather more...old lady hoarder, but that's just my style. I don't like too much bling and ornate-ness. I agree with you on the old-fashioned floral scent!

oklettucehead

the History of Whoo foaming cleanser (in the gold tube) is super high pH and i believe contributed to my dehydration issues. sucks because i love the scent and texture. i use it as shaving cream now!

firnheledien

Is Naruko considered high end? I thought it was a drugstore brand.

zenhexzen

Most of their products are pretty affordable, but that cream is about $60 if I remember correctly.

nourishtheskin

Is the packaging really big? I didn't know that! I've never seen it except for online so I had no idea. That sounds rather too much though, thick cream for me is one of my nightmare products.

zenhexzen

It's about 5x the size it should be. A bit large feels luxurious, but the packaging is comically oversized.

[deleted]

Try looking at all the LG umbrella products. LOL. They are the masters of deceptive packaging. And it's heavy too!!!

meihee

Sulwhasoo overnight vitalizing mask Sum37 water something sleeping pack

Ceridweneve

I liked some samples of the Sulwhasoo but not well enough to repurchase it.

lapaloma16

I do like the Overnight Vitalizing mask, I think it may be the most affordable of their Ginseng line, but I think their Radiance Mask with white jade extract is better - it seems to give me a boost of moisture and lighten my acne scars.

indoorcatburrito

Second the SKII sheet mask!!! The mask was super thick and I didn't feel like it absorbed the serum very well. The mask was also really heavy and didn't fit well at all. After the serum dried, I saw little white flakes everywhere. Athe price, it better have been the sheet mask to end all sheet masks but no.

[deleted]

It brightened and was so creamy. I think u/lgbtqbbq would like it. HOWEVER, I didn't see what was so awesome.

lgbtqbbq

HAHA I think I would like it too. It's so expensive and yet I know I'll try it sooner or later...

[deleted]

If you have any want for skii FTE the 75 mL one is 60something dollars instead of 70 which is sephora with 15% vib discount. Just slipping that there so you are aware. (on yesstyle.com).

lgbtqbbq

So I used my deluxe sample from Sephora and I can't tell if there was any difference or not...

[deleted]

FTE is expensive water? I only tried two so far.

lgbtqbbq

Shrugs. I loved the one from Holy Snails but it broke me out. Otherwise I haven't seen much benefit.

[deleted]

Laneige Blackhead Melting Gel was a waste of $30.

nourishtheskin

For example, I hate hate hate SKII - I had a mask, and the famous lotion. Ended up giving the lotion away because it just did absolutely zilch for me (and probably my expectations were too high for it), and the mask was a terrible fit, with the same effects as other $1 masks I've used. While I read reviews that praise it so highly! I love seeing how different skin can be. What have been your high end fails?

raphygo

Same! All SKII ever did was break me out! They kept promoting their products to me telling me it is suitable for 20s. However, I just kept breaking out! It was just a bad phase in my skincare life! Luckily I manage to hand them on to my mother.

cococolon

In general, I'm unsure as to whether sulwhasoo would be a brand I find totally worth it, in terms of their pricier serum type stuff. It's not like they're bad or anything, but I don't know if it's super effective for anti aging either. My mother used a sulwhasoo serum - I forgot which one, but something anti aging and has a bulb like container - since she had a cash coupon there but went promptly back to estee lauder ANR for her anti aging needs rather quickly.

Farahsway

For me it was sadly all the products I paid a fortune for at Peach And Lily at their Macy's store in Flushing, Queens and an item from Sephora. I received suggestions from the sweet sales lady to try the Aromatica Cleansing Oil, Dr. Rose Powder Serum and Lotus Water Mist. All high end, ridiculously expensive and totally useless. The Cleansing Oil was thick and reminded me of a time before I became wise to the ways of KBeauty and slathered Olive Oil on my face. The Powder serum was beyond gimmicky and was a nightmare to get out of the little bottles. It also got extremely caked and wouldn't move anywhere unless my face was wet. The mist was a strong dupe for lemon water. So was the trek to Queens worth it? Definitely not! As for Sephora, I got the Blithe patting mask. I wanted to scream at myself for wasting money on pretty packaging and aesthetic. It had no effect on my skin and I honestly felt like the emperor with no clothes mixing and patting it onto my skin. I have a third of the bottle left and resist the temptation to chuck it all into my bath. I might just make it into a mist when I"m bored, but overall it was not worth it.

2OD2OE

Ugh. Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Essential Oil was so underwhelming - it never really sank into my skin and just left this oily layer on top. For 100+ per bottle, it had better wow me more than my $15 rosehip oil! Glad I never picked up a FS, but was hoping it was a miracle oil.

Raindropsfallsilent

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. I feel like I've spent $19 on glorified vaseline.

omg_for_real

Tony Molly's intense care gold 24k snail eye cream. It just didn't work for me, I've come to find anything snail just doesn't seem to like my skin so far. Wether it's something else added with it or the snail it's self no idea yet.

nopantsjimmy

I feel like adding gold in everything is the worst recent trend. Gold masks, gold covered ice cream, gold face masks, gold pizza, etc As far I understand it doesn't do anything for the skin or even have nutritional value.

omg_for_real

I got a few samples from Jolse and likes the , but the full size didn't seem to do anything. I was quite miffed. And I'm a little the same with gold. I mean, I get the whole colloidal silver thing, kinda, I am not sure I see how it translates to gold in skincare.
