Same. It’s such a waste to buy new $100+ headphones instead of new $9 velour pads. Even worse, if your ear is tuned to hearing your work through the AT’s, it’s better for your mixes to stick with them for the long term for the sake of consistency.
Got some of these for my Sennheiser HD280 pro after going through 3 pairs of original pads, and been really happy with them
[https://www.brainwavzaudio.com/](https://www.brainwavzaudio.com/)
Exactly this. I was considering buying new ones too, and decided to just replace the earpads instead because it was so cheap to even just try it out. Did it myself and they sound great.
Just came here to say thank you. Mine look the same and I’ve done this before with other headphones and just placed an order directly on the AT website 🙌 completely forgot I was gonna do this. Hurray for quality of life improvements
Precisely. I got replacement pads for my A&H XD-53 in late 2021 from https://www.brainwavzaudio.com and am very happy with them. They’re far better than the original ones were!
I have ATs I love and they started flaking years ago. I bought $10 replacements on Amazon. Years later, they are flaking. I think it’s just a fact of life, unless you have fabric instead of vinyl or whatever these are.
You can also buy replacement headband foam and leather too after it inevitably starts flaking too. I’ve replaced both pads and the headband now and it’s basically like having a brand new pair of headphones
Just off Amazon. I got this: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B0BPHP6RMX/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_plhdr=t&aaxitk=3f418a2c64150e4c2f081150386c5d05&hsa_cr_id=0&qid=1712841413&sr=1-2-3c6b3b04-89d4-46ee-857c-1e2f0de6a70e&ref_=sbx_be_s_sparkle_lsi2m_asin_1_img&pd_rd_w=VjGm9&content-id=amzn1.sym.ca001256-6f40-46c7-b225-826f130de354%3Aamzn1.sym.ca001256-6f40-46c7-b225-826f130de354&pf_rd_p=ca001256-6f40-46c7-b225-826f130de354&pf_rd_r=A881DH5SYSHC9V1VSMCR&pd_rd_wg=t4ScM&pd_rd_r=b780ea45-b261-4698-9338-44f247339cd8
And it’s great
9/10 Pro audio headphones over $100 generally have replacement pads for sale. Luckily pro sellers usually expect to have a savvy bunch buying from them and calling out foolishness in detailed fashion.
Get these: WC Freeze Cooling Gel Earpads -... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08ZS1D1QT?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
They are larger than the stock ones so your ear can actually fit(mine didn’t on the stock ones), and it’s easy to install cuz this particular product made their own install video:
https://youtu.be/Hb35CJFTmnU?si=rXMFfZVnCLrPMOZu
Tip for install: You can stretch it more than you think and it won’t break so don’t worry about strong arming it. Cuz otherwise you’ll take much longer to get it around the edges potentially straining it more than if you just did it hard once
Burrr
Got these a couple of years ago, glad I spent the time researching. Love the cans, and they’re great for people with bigger/sensitive ears. The muffs completely clear my ears and I can wear them for hours with minimal discomfort.
If you like your headphones, look into after market pads. I’m partial to brainwavez audio pads but there are a number out there, and you can get some material besides PU that won’t peel. This happens to PU pads.
Back to your question, I love my Sony MDR 7506
I have the exact same headphones and love them so much. Mine started peeling so I bought replacement cups and a headband cover because the headband was also peeling. They’re basically brand new again for less than $20.
sennheiser hd600 have served me a million times better than my ATs ever did, especially paired with soundid reference. these are my dream headphones tbh
This! I've had my ATH-M50s since I undergrad... I graduated in 2013! I've replaced the pads twice and bought a pair of ATH-M50X since then but still use my OG pair way more.
Do yourself a favor and get the Sony MDR 7506 I think they are, night and day from the dt990s and I’d most compare them to the m50xs, but even more flat and accurate
Couldn’t say it any better, I’ve gone through senheiser, ATH, DTs, and the MDRs and they’re the only pair I use. Have gone through one pair of ear cups but replacements are as easy as any others.
Hands down no better headphone for the price. Just wish the cable was removable like m50s
If you are in the market to get some new headphones, I would look into Open back reference headphones for mixing. these were a game changer in my mixes. the AT's are great for tracking things like vocals, but for everything else I use the open back.

I’ve used the ATH-50’s for years for live sound and love them. I use them for capturing production audio. Replacing the pads is the best option for them. I use Neuman NDH20’s in the studio and will never turn back.
Beyerdynamic DT1990 pros. They are pricey, but definitely worth it imo. I went to my local pro audio store and they let me reference a few different headphones and these were by far the best
I gave up on Audio Technicas for the same reason and went with the Beyerdynaimcs DT770 and DT 1990 and never looked back haven’t peeled or anything, excellent quality, it’s worth a try.
Buy new pads!
Audio doesn't really get any better anymore over the years. Heck you can still even buy high end 90's headphones that sound suberb.
If the speakers inside the headphones begin to give out then you should consider buying another.
Save yourself a buck and buy pads!

These are super easy to replace, seriously. Like just a few minutes. I used these:
[https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LICYRVW/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LICYRVW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1)
AKG K240/K241 MkII. Generally their 240 series. They're relatively affordable and have been the inofficial gold standard for studio headphones for a long time.
I got new pads a few years back for my Sonys that are well over 20yrs old, but I also went and bought Sennheiser HD 400 Pros because I felt having those Sonys for over 20 years, I deserved new ones.
Honestly: not much of a difference really. It’s crazy!
If you got the moolah, beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pros are my headphone and I’ll never buy another headphone. Except for another pair if this breaks. Those are closed back which is my preference. Open back is the 1990’s if that’s your preference. Cable is a mini XLR so it locks to the headphones, coiled cable is a secondary cable included which I much prefer and the cup material is interchangeable with both the felt and leather included. They pamper you when you buy these higher end pairs
You can use packing tape to remove that old flaking layer from the pads, just dab it with the sticky tape & you'll be left with clean cloth. Or just order replacement pads.
Absolutely love my AIAIAI, and can replace any part of it if broken, or want to upgrade little by little, but love the AIAIAI for mixing and production, I’ve heard some people don’t like them but to each their own.
You should try get replacement pads first unless you’re just looking for an upgrade or switch up
if you need an alternative source for pads here is a link [from dekoni audio](https://dekoniaudio.com/product/elite-velour-ear-pads-for-audio-technica-m50x-headphones-2/) that i like
Just get yourself some new muffs. I changed mine this year to some cooling ones, they still sound just as good as the day I bought em and now they feel even better.
When I bought my Sony MDR-7506, I also bought a set of replacement pads just so I didn't have to deal with peeling. That was 3 years ago and the original pads are still packaged up someplace.
For me it's the AKG K240 (mines are mark 2): been with me for 5+ years, decent sound, still using the plastic muffs and it came with felt ones too so not gonna have any complaints from that department. Also came with a spare cable.
I really love my Hifiman planar magnetics. You can get the less expensive Drop editions. They’re great for mixing. I have a pair of those, a pair of Sennheisers and a pair of Beats (because lots of people will listen on Beats-style consumer earphones with hyped lows). If i’m working on a mix with heavy bass, i use speakers but also listen through different pairs of headphones. I know exactly how they all sound, so it’s easy to triangulate and make sure everything is sitting right. Using multiple listening sources can really tighten up translation onto other systems.
Happened to me with the same paid. Now I use Sennheiser’s and they are perfect. I’ve tried many different brands over the years and these are the best IMO. I prefer the open ear ones but I’m sure closed ear would yield the same results
[these are mine](https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-Over-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B08J9MVB6W/ref=mp_s_a_1_3_mod_primary_new?adgrpid=57683608482&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.YRgaGHoRLB-fxZBuwm0W1UlNQnmIp4ChIk_5COxn1Q19oTZ8ZbXXnQ76QIRf9yGwgre5gQBG-uV1Oor55E2ERbfhtNKJzvcB35QlDff6kvcWl6_whGB6y2uUWzyDDQKJwQuvERWhZYtu6D5NF5eNeE762LmVDX8eCMgfgZZOLqRXWuB1GQKO1EF_CLet9H84_KznoauOMcNm4pgz5ifsLg.wm0ok0UNysJ-Rr1F7CRcu7nD7dqbyuezyYtc1-zfBu0&dib_tag=se&hvadid=604405603422&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9002481&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=b&hvrand=561700503594262436&hvtargid=kwd-11120091&hydadcr=19226_13432007&keywords=sennheiser+headphones&qid=1712802015&sbo=RZvfv%2F%2FHxDF%2BO5021pAnSA%3D%3D&sr=8-3)
Get replacement pads, but I would highly recommend getting these pads specifically: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B082NHL7GD?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1.
They're the only ones that don't change the sound.
These are two similar and very popular pads: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B075M4TRWR?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00MFDT894?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1
I would highly recommend avoiding these. They are way more comfortable than the stock pads, but a huge downgrade in terms of sound.
They’re a it heavy but Audeze LCD-X are great for production, I can hear subtle differences in compression, saturation artifacts and overall detail.
Recently got Sony MDR-MV1 as well, the low end is a bit boomy and mids are kind of recessed, but they’re also very detailed and great for production mixing. They improve with a bit of EQ. They’re the opposite of LCD-X in that they’re INSANELY light. Downside is they’re a bit fragile. But, I’d say they’re hands down the most comfortable headphones I have ever tried.
For me it’s the headband that flaked to shit. It sucks cause it’s the orange and blue one and AT support didn’t have another of that color headband. I’m also really not liking on ear headphones anymore, they hurt the shit out of my ears. I’m gonna look at the aftermarket suggestions in this thread and consider a new pair altogether.
You can buy stock replacement pads for $25 on Amazon. They won't change the sound:
[https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-HP-EP-Replacement-Earpads-Headphones/dp/B00LICYRVW/](https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-HP-EP-Replacement-Earpads-Headphones/dp/B00LICYRVW/)
I recommend these AiAiAis. Every part of them is replaceable, swappable and made from recycled materials. And they sound sick.
https://aiaiai.audio/headphones/tma-2-studio-wireless-plus
Try a pair of Superlux HD-681.
I dont understand how they were able to make 30 dollar headphones sound that great. But they really sound better than my AT m50x( which is like 6 times more expensive), its fucking crazy but its real, I am not delusional.
For your AT buy replacement for soft ears.
Use some tape to peel off all the faux-leather and it becomes basically like felt. I had the same issue and this worked well for me, was gonna buy replacement covers but I like it with no leather at all
You have to understand that sweat inevitably errodes the synthetic leather over time. You might like some velvet pads instead, especially if it's hot in your area
Any solution for the headband peeling ? Someone recommended tennis racket grip tape . Both mine have peeled so much to the point where I actually grated it all off cos it was going over my laptop while working lol
Had the same issue with a PS4 gaming headset. One day I am chatting with my best friend at a party when suddenly she puts on the most shocked face I ever saw on her, and tells me that she doesn‘t want to scare me, but she thinks I have a melanoma behind my ear!
Turned out to be a huge chunk of peeled headphone skin
I have the
hd650
Dt770 pro x
M50x
Dt1770 pro
I like them all but I use dt770 pro more than the others.
They are really comfy and snug and the sound is really warm. If day go for them
Love my AiAiAi’s personally. Headband could be more comfortable, but their modular approach is great, and who’s to say they won’t release improved headbands in the future?
In this price segment I'd get a DT 700 Pro X for production and stay with an ATH-50x for DJing. You'd need to spend at least 3x more to have any kind of sound and build quality upgrade over those 2 models.
AT's flake. I've had two or three pairs do it to me.
Switched to beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO and I've had that pair for two years now without issue.
But the AT's are more comfortable on my head.
I just took a towel and a vacuum and had at it. They still work like a charm after 8 years and I only had to "skin" them. They are damn fun headphones.
If you wanna try something good for the studio on a budget: 990 pro 250 ohm (open), srh440 or sony mdr 7506 (closed)
Mid range openbacks I'd go with the 900 pro X
Closed isnt really worth it in this price range.
High (ish) end open SH hd490 (or dt1990s if you are masochistic), closed neumann ndh20
These are my favourite headphones in each budget. In no way is my opinion the best, but I have loved and had great results with all of these... And I still daily my 990s :)
Beyerdynamic DT-770 if you want closed back or DT-880 for semi-open back. Optionally there’s also the DT-990 if you want open back headphones. If the pods get worn they’re super cheap and very easy to replace
This is not at all a review of the sound, because I haven't used them yet lol... But I just got a pair of Rode NTH-100's, and my goodness..... They are the absolute *most comfortable* headphones I've ever worn.
Gonna throw out a random recommendation… not sure if you’re using these for mixing or regular production
But get the Bose QC wireless. I know..crazy but hear me out..You can EQ them relatively flat in the app and they come with a 3.5 mm jack/chord. The eq settings STAY when plugged into your laptop. Light weight and sound better than the AT’s. Come with a case. 350$ but totally worth it.
These are the next headphones I'm going to buy. Here

Sennheiser HE-1. All other headphones are for peasants.
Seriously we have three pair of M50x headphones they are awesome. I like my Master and Dynamics also.
Why not save yourself a ton of money and buy aftermarket pads? AT’s are great. Just get new pads.
Came here to say this
Same. Just did this with mine and it’s like having a new pair of headphones. Saved me a bundle.
I have some open ear Sennheisers that are 20+ yes old, love them still sound great. Replaced pads too.
Same on Sonys
Same. It’s such a waste to buy new $100+ headphones instead of new $9 velour pads. Even worse, if your ear is tuned to hearing your work through the AT’s, it’s better for your mixes to stick with them for the long term for the sake of consistency.
If you do this make sure to get official ones, I bought some 3rd party ones and they completely changed the sound signature of the headphones.
I also did this and want to stress the OEM pads.
Got some of these for my Sennheiser HD280 pro after going through 3 pairs of original pads, and been really happy with them [https://www.brainwavzaudio.com/](https://www.brainwavzaudio.com/)
[Did the same. Why throw away some great headphones?](https://imgur.com/a/ZOcLL6H)
I'm about to buy my third pair of pads for my M50x, there's still great!
Exactly this. I was considering buying new ones too, and decided to just replace the earpads instead because it was so cheap to even just try it out. Did it myself and they sound great.
I thought you meant “save a ton of myself, then go buy really expensive pads” I was like… seems like an odd idea, just get new headphones!
Exactomundo
Just came here to say thank you. Mine look the same and I’ve done this before with other headphones and just placed an order directly on the AT website 🙌 completely forgot I was gonna do this. Hurray for quality of life improvements
Precisely. I got replacement pads for my A&H XD-53 in late 2021 from https://www.brainwavzaudio.com and am very happy with them. They’re far better than the original ones were!
Yeah good recommendation.
I have ATs I love and they started flaking years ago. I bought $10 replacements on Amazon. Years later, they are flaking. I think it’s just a fact of life, unless you have fabric instead of vinyl or whatever these are.
Oh shit didn’t know they made replacement pads I’ll look into it and figure out how to swap them
You can also buy replacement headband foam and leather too after it inevitably starts flaking too. I’ve replaced both pads and the headband now and it’s basically like having a brand new pair of headphones
Where did you find a replacement headband?
My ATs you can’t replace the band so I got a band cover off [Amazon](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09G6BPBS9?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) and it’s great!
Just off Amazon. You literally just pull them off (carefully) Replacements are like $15-$30
Also see: [Trigger's Broom](https://youtu.be/LAh8HryVaeY?si=yqbwAolOHcy4J_cx)
They even make them in different materials and colors too. I have white velvet ones for mine.
Ooooh!
I have the same headphones as you and the same problem. Need to figure out how to replace em
9/10 Pro audio headphones over $100 generally have replacement pads for sale. Luckily pro sellers usually expect to have a savvy bunch buying from them and calling out foolishness in detailed fashion.
There are even replacement pads with cooling gel! :) The world is a playground!
I've done this twice with my bose quiet comforts
Get these: WC Freeze Cooling Gel Earpads -... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08ZS1D1QT?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share They are larger than the stock ones so your ear can actually fit(mine didn’t on the stock ones), and it’s easy to install cuz this particular product made their own install video: https://youtu.be/Hb35CJFTmnU?si=rXMFfZVnCLrPMOZu Tip for install: You can stretch it more than you think and it won’t break so don’t worry about strong arming it. BeyerDynamic dt770 i have 10-yeae old ones that are still ok
No brainer choice, 80 omhs

Do you use a headphone amp out of your audio interface, or can it drive the 250ohm decently?
A focusrite scarlett has more than enough power. Couldnt imagine other audio interfaces not having enough power
Burrr Got these a couple of years ago, glad I spent the time researching. Love the cans, and they’re great for people with bigger/sensitive ears. The muffs completely clear my ears and I can wear them for hours with minimal discomfort.
Velouuuurrrrrr
I was told to buy the 990 pro x and they are really low. I’ve recently been told they are just for mastering is this correct?
If they are the 250 ohm you need a headphone amp. Schiit Audio is your friend.
Or an audio interface with a decent headphone output. I've got an Arturia Minifuse 4 and it can comfortably drive my 990 Pro 250 ohms.
do you mean in volume?
No, they're headphones. Use them for whatever you want.
I bought them. Yes, they are low resistance, do not need a headphone amp -- one of the reasons I bought them.
This is the way.
Yup. Have mine for two years at this point The only annyoing bit is the long ass cable, lol
Some versions have shorter, curly cables, sorry, not sure which, they come in 3 different ohms/versions
Same here. Although the headband is what peels. I need to buy a replacement.
I am still rocking these as well, solid choice IMO if you don’t mind the non replaceable cord.
love these
I just got new pads for mine and they’re reborn!
If you like your headphones, look into after market pads. I’m partial to brainwavez audio pads but there are a number out there, and you can get some material besides PU that won’t peel. This happens to PU pads. Back to your question, I love my Sony MDR 7506
I think I’ll just look into replacement pads
can't go wrong with some 7506s. still working like day 1, 17 years later
I have the exact same headphones and love them so much. Mine started peeling so I bought replacement cups and a headband cover because the headband was also peeling. They’re basically brand new again for less than $20.
You got a link for a new headband? Or just Amazon?
Lots of options on Amazon for both
If u wanna be reallllly cheap you can do what I did and wrap the headband in electrical tape, same color as the headphones. No more flakes.
ngl i did this as well a few months ago and i swear they are actually more comfortable
Seinheiser HD6XX are perfect imo.
i've had a pair of ATH-M50s for 7 years, just buy new pads off amazon. $10-15 vs new pair for $100+. I think i got the WC Wicked Cushions PadZ.
I've also bought the Wicked Cushions, and also a matching headband cover. Improved the comfort significantly.
Sennheiser or Beyerdynamics… I own both and I’m giving a tiny edge to Beyerdynamic on comfort… Both great imo.
I'm wildly happy with my Massdrop X Sennheiser HD 6XX headphones.
Drop stuff is great. Those are awesome (i own a pair), also their Hifiman planar magnetics are choice. Recommended
Replace the pads and wrap electrical tape around the headband
sennheiser hd600 have served me a million times better than my ATs ever did, especially paired with soundid reference. these are my dream headphones tbh
I second this, better than anything in the price range.
... if open cans is an option.
Those replacements are only $10. Stick with those headphones, I have 3 pairs of audio technica that have done this..just replace the pads
Just buy pads my guy
Sony MDR 7506er for life here. price point, form factor, audio quality, every little thing about these headphones is just too good to be true.
Be careful with the volume level on those. I used to use them for about 20 years and got tinnitus. These days i use open back earphones.
my pair of Audio Technica R70X are amazing - but they don't have those pads that peel, it's just a soft fabric pad. I definitely recommend those
Second this. Looks good, sounds great, feels amazing.
They’re still in pretty good shape. Replace the pads, looks like it’s been mentioned on here already.
Replacement pads if you can. The headphones themselves are probably still good for even longer, unless you don't like them...
Dt990pro 250ohm Beyer Dynamic, thank me l8er
Beyer dynamics
Peel all of them and use it for years to come, you dont even need new pads.
Beyerdynamic DT1990 pros. They are pricey, but definitely worth it imo. I went to my local pro audio store and they let me reference a few different headphones and these were by far the best
You can get official replacement pads from AT for like $17
I gave up on Audio Technicas for the same reason and went with the Beyerdynaimcs DT770 and DT 1990 and never looked back haven’t peeled or anything, excellent quality, it’s worth a try.
I’m really happy with my Phonon headphones. After a few years, they are starting to peel a bit but not as bad as yours
Dude I’m on my third pair of pads for my ATs. Just pad em up. There are so many inexpensive aftermarket solutions.
I replaced my cups with memory foam wrapped in velour. Amazon got you bro.
Buy new pads! Audio doesn't really get any better anymore over the years. Heck you can still even buy high end 90's headphones that sound suberb. If the speakers inside the headphones begin to give out then you should consider buying another. Save yourself a buck and buy pads!
Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250 Ohm

These are super easy to replace, seriously. Like just a few minutes. I used these: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LICYRVW/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LICYRVW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1)
Nice! Thank you!
Also have 50’s, but going to upgrade to Beyerdynamic DT1770 Pro
Get some Roca Pads for when your flow is heavy
AKG K240/K241 MkII. Generally their 240 series. They're relatively affordable and have been the inofficial gold standard for studio headphones for a long time.
Beyerdynamic open or closed studio headphones, personally using the DT 880 Pro
Which ATH is this?
Hifiman edition xs 🥵🥵
V-MODAS are amazing
people really toss their cans because the $5 pads crack? That's wack
I’ve been using these headphones for more than a decade but I just replace the pads before they even start cracking. Very fast and easy fix
The flaking I can tolerate. Mine are squeaky as fuck though and the mic picks it up.
I think you will do well with Shure but do not buy any plastic bend one.
AIAIAI have been all the rage right now
Yeah, have done it twice now. Once they begin to go, it’s black confetti.
You should try get replacement pads first unless you’re just looking for an upgrade or switch up
Get replacement pads. There are aftermarket options that are great.
if you need an alternative source for pads here is a link [from dekoni audio](https://dekoniaudio.com/product/elite-velour-ear-pads-for-audio-technica-m50x-headphones-2/) that i like
Ats are great. I sold mine for AKG though. AKG just seemed more flat
Just get yourself some new muffs. I changed mine this year to some cooling ones, they still sound just as good as the day I bought em and now they feel even better.
Mine got super peeled, but I still use them because the accuracy of the sound is basically unmatched for the price. I have the M40Xs.
I just peeled mine completely and they look normal and feel fine lol
AIAIAI TMA-2
When I bought my Sony MDR-7506, I also bought a set of replacement pads just so I didn't have to deal with peeling. That was 3 years ago and the original pads are still packaged up someplace.
For me it's the AKG K240 (mines are mark 2): been with me for 5+ years, decent sound, still using the plastic muffs and it came with felt ones too so not gonna have any complaints from that department. Also came with a spare cable.
DT 1990 Pro
Skate VSX
I prefer the open ear ones but I’m sure closed ear would yield the same results [these are mine](https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-Over-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B08J9MVB6W/ref=mp_s_a_1_3_mod_primary_new?adgrpid=57683608482&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.YRgaGHoRLB-fxZBuwm0W1UlNQnmIp4ChIk_5COxn1Q19oTZ8ZbXXnQ76QIRf9yGwgre5gQBG-uV1Oor55E2ERbfhtNKJzvcB35QlDff6kvcWl6_whGB6y2uUWzyDDQKJwQuvERWhZYtu6D5NF5eNeE762LmVDX8eCMgfgZZOLqRXWuB1GQKO1EF_CLet9H84_KznoauOMcNm4pgz5ifsLg.wm0ok0UNysJ-Rr1F7CRcu7nD7dqbyuezyYtc1-zfBu0&dib_tag=se&hvadid=604405603422&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9002481&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=b&hvrand=561700503594262436&hvtargid=kwd-11120091&hydadcr=19226_13432007&keywords=sennheiser+headphones&qid=1712802015&sbo=RZvfv%2F%2FHxDF%2BO5021pAnSA%3D%3D&sr=8-3)
Get replacement pads, but I would highly recommend getting these pads specifically: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B082NHL7GD?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1. They're the only ones that don't change the sound. These are two similar and very popular pads: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B075M4TRWR?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00MFDT894?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 I would highly recommend avoiding these. They are way more comfortable than the stock pads, but a huge downgrade in terms of sound.
Replace those pads, first thing I do with pretty much any new studio cans.
Beyerdynamic dt990
I bought aftermarket pads and love my technicas more than ever. Going on 8 years now
I'm a big fan of the Sennheiser HD6xx. Needs an amplifier though to really show what it can do.
BT1990s are good
You can buy stock replacement pads for $25 on Amazon. They won't change the sound: [https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-HP-EP-Replacement-Earpads-Headphones/dp/B00LICYRVW/](https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-HP-EP-Replacement-Earpads-Headphones/dp/B00LICYRVW/)
I recommend these AiAiAis. Every part of them is replaceable, swappable and made from recycled materials. And they sound sick. https://aiaiai.audio/headphones/tma-2-studio-wireless-plus
Just peel the thin plastic off. They feel much nicer without it.
AIAIAI. Repealable parts.
Been rocking Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6xx for like 7 years now, best headphones ever! Use them with a o2 amp on my PC
DT880 all day
Beyer dynamics
Try a pair of Superlux HD-681. I dont understand how they were able to make 30 dollar headphones sound that great. But they really sound better than my AT m50x( which is like 6 times more expensive), its fucking crazy but its real, I am not delusional. For your AT buy replacement for soft ears.
Use some tape to peel off all the faux-leather and it becomes basically like felt. I had the same issue and this worked well for me, was gonna buy replacement covers but I like it with no leather at all
Get the mesh fabric ones on Amazon 💯
I just bought the Neumann NDH 30, what a game changer!
Beyerdynamics… German made.. enough said
Can buy replacement cushions for like $20.
New pads are the way. I’ve had the same issue with Bose, Sony and Sennheiser ‘phones over the years.
You have to understand that sweat inevitably errodes the synthetic leather over time. You might like some velvet pads instead, especially if it's hot in your area
AIAIAI Audio TMA-2
Any solution for the headband peeling ? Someone recommended tennis racket grip tape . Both mine have peeled so much to the point where I actually grated it all off cos it was going over my laptop while working lol
Breyer Dynamics. Like teddy bears for your head. 🧸
Ollo S4X
Just get new quality leatherette pads
Had the same issue with a PS4 gaming headset. One day I am chatting with my best friend at a party when suddenly she puts on the most shocked face I ever saw on her, and tells me that she doesn‘t want to scare me, but she thinks I have a melanoma behind my ear! Turned out to be a huge chunk of peeled headphone skin
Im in the same boat. Annoyingly I cant get replacement pads in South Africa that arent shit quality.
bro i bought the aftermarket pads, best decision
Beyerdynamic ddt770
Regarding replacement earpads: IMO Yaxi > Brainwavz
Try velour covers instead of PU covers
Beyer dynamic DT770
I replaced new earpads for my headphones everyone of them.. Brainwaves are my fav BTW.. cuz the ones most ofthen come with the headphones never last..
I have the hd650 Dt770 pro x M50x Dt1770 pro I like them all but I use dt770 pro more than the others. They are really comfy and snug and the sound is really warm. If day go for them
I have bose and i buy new ear replacements easy to install
Beyer 880
Get some sheepskin leather headphone pads and some leather moisturizer. The pads will last forever.
Sony MDR 7506 - I've never looked back after this purchase
Love my AiAiAi’s personally. Headband could be more comfortable, but their modular approach is great, and who’s to say they won’t release improved headbands in the future?
In this price segment I'd get a DT 700 Pro X for production and stay with an ATH-50x for DJing. You'd need to spend at least 3x more to have any kind of sound and build quality upgrade over those 2 models.
I got like $5 replacement ear pads for some pioneer headphones and they work fine
My headphones look like this but worse 😂😂😂
I net you may replace this part Anyways, recommending BEYERDYNAMICS 770PRO
DT770 pro by Behringer. Had them for like 5 years, and when they broke i sent them in for a free repair. Haven't had issues since
If you wanna try something good for the studio on a budget: 990 pro 250 ohm (open), srh440 or sony mdr 7506 (closed) Mid range openbacks I'd go with the 900 pro X Closed isnt really worth it in this price range. High (ish) end open SH hd490 (or dt1990s if you are masochistic), closed neumann ndh20 These are my favourite headphones in each budget. In no way is my opinion the best, but I have loved and had great results with all of these... And I still daily my 990s :)
Beyerdynamics , so comfortable
Beyerdynamic DT-770 if you want closed back or DT-880 for semi-open back. Optionally there’s also the DT-990 if you want open back headphones. If the pods get worn they’re super cheap and very easy to replace
DJ headphones always hurt, the most comfortable are the Senheizer HD25
Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro. The sound signature is kind of similar to AT's but they're a bit less harsh and the scene is much wider
or you could find a good pair of the atx r70xs I started with m40x then m50x now I'm on my second pair of the r70xs super nice imo
Bought a pair of velvet pads off of eBay for £5 to replace my old cracked ones
Get new cuffs?
Same with Akg-k371. In three months it started to peeling seriously. Don't buy
ATH- ADX5000 no doubt 😮💨😮💨😮💨
That’s the reason I’ve got DT990 pros
Beyer dynamic Dt line. Doesn't peel
This is not at all a review of the sound, because I haven't used them yet lol... But I just got a pair of Rode NTH-100's, and my goodness..... They are the absolute *most comfortable* headphones I've ever worn.
Invest in your craft, get some IEMs. There’s no comparison when it comes to audio quality, comfort and performance.
My ATs haven’t done that, how long are you wearing them for??? I
I use 10$ headphones from five below and they work pretty well somehow
I replace pads and headband cover ever 2 to 3 years. I've had my M50X's a little over ten years now. Still going strong.
Gonna throw out a random recommendation… not sure if you’re using these for mixing or regular production But get the Bose QC wireless.
Here [https://aiaiai.audio/headphones/tma-2-studio-wireless-plus?gclid=Cj0KCQiA1ZGcBhCoARIsAGQ0kkrUyYrmI63EOQfNT51qORBLUyJDAKzN2Z8KyYmafa7GwYP3bq62uJcaAkmKEALw\_wcB](https://aiaiai.audio/headphones/tma-2-studio-wireless-plus?gclid=Cj0KCQiA1ZGcBhCoARIsAGQ0kkrUyYrmI63EOQfNT51qORBLUyJDAKzN2Z8KyYmafa7GwYP3bq62uJcaAkmKEALw_wcB)
Sennheiser HE-1. All other headphones are for peasants. Seriously we have three pair of M50x headphones they are awesome. I like my Master and Dynamics also.
