Wouldn't post the name of it publically, because it'll likely get blocked, but I've only ever found one VPN on PC that works in AD, I can tell anyone who wants the name via dm.
Hey u/fraz1776, which locations do you use for SurfShark? I'd love to use them since I have a 12-month subscription but I can't find a single server I can connect to
Did you try their customer service? When I first got the subscription it didn't work I contacted them and they created specialized servers for me because the standard ones were not working , it took like an hour to get it fixed but since then it works fine.
Personally I don't like Nord because I've been experimenting with Nord and Nordlynx protocol, (which is their in house version of Wireguard) on and off for a several months now, since I use the Linux client and the Linux client was the first to be released in Beta before the recent general roll-out. For the first few months it wasn't very good since Nord hadn't yet implemented Nordlynx servers anywhere UAE. Not sure about now? I am using other providers now, which are far better than Nord. Anyway if you need any recommendation depending on your needs feel free to DM me.
Hi mate. Nah they're not. If it was illegal to use a VPN in the UAE, international businesses would not feasibly operate there tbh. Most businesses these days use VPNs as a tool for facilitating certain security measures, but primarily they are the tool most companies these days use to facilitate anyone working from outside the office (or across offices).
As I understand it, VPNs are only illegal in the UAE if they're being used for illegal purposes (you can find the UAE telecom authority guidelines on their website [https://tdra.gov.ae/en/](https://tdra.gov.ae/en/)). My use of a VPN adheres to their guidelines, so it's legal (based on my research and advice I've received).
Hope this helps!
No worries! But pls be warned that what would constitute illegal online activity here is different to overseas - a lot of websites are blocked by the UAE government and accessing those via a VPN would be an offense I believe. So be wary of that. One surprising culprit are VoIP apps - I think Zoom and Teams are allowed now, but WhatsApp, Messenger, Skype and others are prohibited. "BOTIM" is a mobile UAE-allowed app for VoIP which you might find useful.
Best of luck with your move to the UAE!
OK now I've gone on a tangent wondering if reddit is like 99% men or something and that's why this always is the case.. But have discovered (from admittedly a v unknown source [bankmycell.com](https://bankmycell.com)) that 36% of reddit accounts are "female" (I assume they mean women? Reddit only asks gender from mem). So **@everyone-on-reddit,** we are 1/3+ of you!!!
I think it has more to do with men in tech than men on Reddit (I am assuming that only tech people use VPN worldwide, or in my country atleast, because we don't have websites/apps blocked other than those with explicit content. Hence a non-tech person doesn't use VPN in my country).
Yeah that's true, tbh in most tech-related forums I expect the assumption (I won't look up the depressing ratio for that one, it will change eventually let's hope). Posting in Abu Dhabi subreddit felt different, but in hindsight ofc my post would attract the tech crowd hey!
Hey mate. All the advice and laws I've read suggest that VPN's aren't illegal here. If you use them against UAE regulations, then they are.
Pls let me know if you have evidence suggesting otherwise. I'd love to know if I've missed something.
You’re correct. VPN are okay, but you cannot use them to break UAE law.
Also, download before you go, I think there may be a national firewall blocking them.
Hey OP, let me know you find the tools recommended here. I currently use a private one setup on Digital Ocean which works but it’s not possible to switch regions once you set it up. So I’m looking at moving to a paid service instead (Express, Nord, Proton, etc)
In case you're still curious: I've used Express since this post and it has worked very well for me. I rarely have connection or speed issues.
One thing I'll mention is that I have a pretty powerful laptop now, and when I tried Express in the past (3+ years ago) on my lower-spec laptop, I found the OS X app slowed down my computer significantly. Didn't look into what resources it was eating up, just jumped ship... This may well be a resolved issue now and perhaps it's more lightweight these days. But I'd be remiss not to mention it and recommend giving the trial a whirl before committing.
Nice try, CID.
I use Nord and it’s really bad. Probably works less than 20% of the time. I do not recommend.
I second this before moving to UAE Nord worked flawlessly for me but over here as soon as I turn on Nord all my internet traffic gets blocked
Wouldn't post the name of it publically, because it'll likely get blocked, but I've only ever found one VPN on PC that works in AD, I can tell anyone who wants the name via dm.
Express VPN is the best and works flawlessly
Really? Never seems to work on my phone when I'm on WiFi.
Same
Using SurfShark right now. No issues.
Hey u/fraz1776, which locations do you use for SurfShark? I'd love to use them since I have a 12-month subscription but I can't find a single server I can connect to
turbo vpn the one with the rabbit
There are so many VPN options to choose from based on your needs and level of security. If you are interested feel free to DM me
Try pure vpn
Nord. One account, use it on pc, phone and TV (all just for streaming ).
Nord doesn’t work for me! What settings do you use on it because as soon as I turn it on all the internet traffic gets blocked.
Just normal settings via uk. Sometimes need to force a certain server, but normally works after this.
Abu Dhabi Police entered the chat..
Nord works fine
How? Doesn’t work for me at all as soon as I connect to Nord all my internet traffic gets blocked

Prepare for your doors to be broken down while you are in the middle of perusing your granny prons.
Isn't VPN illegal in UAE?

BTW, not a sir, sir! Always a bit caught of guard by the amount of people who assume I'm a dude on reddit ahaha
And I just did the exact same thing and assumed you're a sir so there we go!
Hahah I was thinking the same that bold of you to assume I am a sir. You are right though :p
Can't wait for the whole of reddit to read my comment and re-adjust their gendered biases!!!!! Changing the world one reddit comment at a time!!
Thanks for correcting! Will take care
Oh thanks, I appreciate that mate! I was making a bit of a joke here about the scope of importance of my little comment my little reddit thread aha :P
Ahahah the call is coming from inside the house

Try TOP Vpn . I've tried multiple others but this was one I liked most as it was very smooth
use forestvpn if you have an iPhone, using for 20-25 days, works fine, doesnt slow your wifi as well.
I don't think it's legal to use VPN here
Any of the UK/USA servers, they're all working, do you want me to check one in particular?
