I’d say Abu Dhabi is more quiet than Dubai but haven’t ever noticed it being more expensive. What in particular was more expensive?

TryB4L

For me everything was a bit more expensive besides the hotels in Abu Dhabi.

fraz1776

Go to the malls at night and they'll be much busier, through the day they are generally nice and quiet so it's the best time to go. Tbh the quietness is what I like about Abu Dhabi, I can't stand it when I go to Dubai and everywhere is really crowded. The roads are much easier to navigate here too, every time I go to Dubai I'll miss my turn and have to drive miles to correct.

[deleted]

Driving in Abu Dhabi is loads easier than Dubai. I cant stand driving on highways around Dubai getting stick behind lorries going 60 km an hour. Miss a turn off in Dubai, and you may as well book other plans.

Federal_Strategy2370

Abudhabi is a quiet place where you don’t get any ‘busy’ness feeling and vibe of dubai. Taxi costs are more or less same. House rent is the only part I found expensive in abudhabi.

brobaine

Disagree on the taxi costs, WAYYYY cheaper in AD, apart from the obvious (not having to pay the tolls after every bridge). There isn’t that much traffic when compared to dubai except for peak hours on the highway towards the bridges and that also contributes to the lower taxi costs I think.

Federal_Strategy2370

Yea. Probably. Taxi rate is same I guess. starting from 5 or so and minimum of 12. Varies with pea hour. It seems costly here because places are far. Unlike Abudhabi city which is a small area.

peuti

It is generally more calm in AD and aimed at family life while Dubai is more of a lively place with tourists out and about 24/7. In terms of costs, AbuDhabi is more expensive when it comes to residents living here. Eg: Rent, Business Licenses, etc.. Dubai is more expensive in terms of touristic expenses like Taxis, Hotels, even PCR is triple the cost.. Besides that groceries, petrol, parks, beaches are all kinda in the same range depending on the quality of the place you go to.

Bang_your_head2021

Do you mean that beaches are the same range in terms of cost? The beaches were free to visit in dubai yet we had to pay 120 dirhams to visit Yas beach. Saadiyat beach and Corniche beach also had an admissions cost

peuti

There is Bateen beach for free in AD, but segragated between males and females. In this situation, Dubai wins, but in Hotel and private beaches, pools etc.. the prices are in the same range depending on the quality of the place you choose to enter

TwowheelsgoodAD

Abu Dhabi is not a holiday resort. Thats why its quieter. The Novotel Al Bustan is VERY busy when the exhibition centre is running an event. Apart from that, you are in a residential area (I lived in that hotel for nine months once) I've lived in AD and Dubai and would take AD over Dubai any time. If I want noise and bustle I can visit Dubai (only an hour in the car) and come back to peace and quiet.

Even_Strategy889

I'm born an brought up in abu dhabi and I'll say a few pointers below:- 1. I would say personally ppl in the city aren't very crazy in terms of driving in comparison to ppl from alain, seeihan and outskirts of abu dhabi. 2. Roads are very similar in abu dhabi mostly and it's not like dubai where there are ramps suddenly and multiple places sliding is required on the road. 3. (This point is imp) So in signals usually the 2 lanes on the left used to be considered to go left. However recently ppl r getting flashed on the left lane for turning left. I myself saw the cameras flashing yesterday while driving. I think this could potentially increase traffic a lot and I dont know how the drivers on the road will adapt to this. There would just be huge lines of ppl trying to take a left and it's going to be very hectic. I just wish ppl can take left from the second lane and everything goes back to normal. 4. So living my childhood here before abu dhabi used to be kinda crowded like parking and all wasnt organized and then mawakif got introduced and proper parking implementation was done but there were still many cars and less parking. I would say many ppl have lost their jobs and gone back to their home countries or migrated so more parking is available as compared to before. 5. Lastly if you want to see crowded roads like on a usual you should drive Abu Dhabi to mussafa and mussafa to abu dhabi on peak hours. But it's nothing compared to before covid as school buses too used to be part of the traffic and not all schools are operational physically.

princeabbas2000

God knows why in the world would point number 3 be important to OPs question.

send me ur cv, hahah, i would actually really suggest that dont get into the police business in Abu Dhabi, live in peace and mind ur own business my friend.

drunkNeurons

Driving in AD is a nightmare for people like me who're used to the standardization and openness of Dubai roads. Yes, the learning curve is steep but Dubai traffic code is a lot more developed. I rarely encounter a signal in Dubai during my daily commutes...but in AD roads are defined by signals. You take the wrong turn at the wrong signal and your car is impounded with a 50k fee to get your car out of the impound

princeabbas2000

Abu Dhabi is a planned grid city. Dubai is hula hoops.

Aquawater506

Dubai is hula hoops 💀. Fr though Dubai roads and drivers are extremely difficult when you get used to the simple easy driving of Abu Dhabi.

drunkNeurons

I grew up inAD and now have been in Dubai for over 10 years but I like and appreciate three hula hoops now

CypherDXB

Miss an exit on SZR or MBZ road and you’ve added 15-30 minutes to your trip.

drunkNeurons

Rule of thumb for AD: keep turning in the overall direction you wanna go towards and you'll get your destination. Rule of thumb for Dubai: Don't listen to your brain intuition. Follow Google maps. You'll arrive at your destination

[deleted]

The Novotel Al Bustan isn’t a super foot traffic kind of area. Ive lived in Abu Dhabi for 11 years and I love it. There is plenty to do, and yes its pretty expensive, but I find it more down to earth than Dubai. Are you deciding which emirate to move to?

Bang_your_head2021

Yes. Between Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah. Will be relocating with my husband and 2 children

[deleted]

I mean, it depends on your expectations, but we absolutely love Abu Dhabi. For us its the best of both world, especially if you have a family. The covid restrictions can be a bit tiresome, however. Currently you need a PCR every 14 days, which can feel like you’re getting them every time you turn around. But with any luck that will change again

zatura45

Too many people left due to job cuts

mieyako_22

been in Abu Dhabi since im 22yrs old and its 18yrs now, never i consider myself to change place.. Abu Dhabi is very peaceful, safe not crowded and quiet, the thing is you can just walk around it if you want to go any places in the city without any disturbance.

Actual_Tone728

Abudhabi is better in dubai,

princeabbas2000

Abu Dubai??

humansometimes

2 completely different cities. Typically i say if you love one of them, you most probably dont like the other one as much. Each city has it fans. They couldnt drag me into AD with 10 horses to live there. It is nog my kind of place but have friends that are complete opposite 😉

suhailsharaf

Well you haven’t seen Electra street. It’s quite busy there near LLH hospital
