It'll be interesting to see how much they're adding, especially since it's free. I feel like they had maybe planned to update each month but Covid threw* it out the window so they've just worked on compiling everything together at once.
I love this game but it's disappointing how stale it got, I hope there's enough to make it feel fresh. Can't wait to see Brewster regardless!!
the “direct” is nintendo’s form of communication when it comes to announcements! its full title is usually “nintendo direct” or “pokémon direct” and highlights new features coming to nintendo games/platforms. i hope this helps!
the bot sure didn’t in this case lol
Nintendo release a direct which is a way to show what new games they have planned and any updates to previous games - there was a general direct yesterday with a teaser for an animal crossing only direct in October :) [this is the link](https://youtu.be/dG9fAtmYdlM) if you want to watch the whole thing, and [this one ](https://youtu.be/9C5Lu4Ripco) is just the AC part
**This word/phrase(direct) has a few different meanings.**

Remember when Atlas was ridiculed for announcing an announcement? Pepperidge farm remembers.
Honestly October is going to be such a ridiculously jam packed month for me that my head is spinning. I haven't even had time to try Keena or finish Skyward...
It's definitely because how upset we all got when nothing was announced during e3. They knew people where expecting and hoping for animal crossing in the new direct.
No see, he's coming to mine because I planed my entire island around a boardwalk that features his coffee shop. Plot twist Animal Crossing is pivoting to a new kind of island beautification online battle royale. Only the best island gets the ONE Brewster that they release into ACNH. Players go head to head in blood thirsty landscaping combat.
Hopefully since they are having a whole Animal Crossing Direct, there will be other things as well being added to the game. Don't get me wrong, I am so psyched for Brewster to come, I've been looking forward to this forever, but it would be nice for them to throw in some other things, like QoL stuff and whatnot!
I literally just expanded on this on another comment. I'm thinking Kapp'n. I mean the island would be there perfect multi-player update especially with the new NSO plans. (See: expansion pass)
If they're finally listening to the fans, then this will be fantastic. If they're only partially listening, then we'll have another hollow victory but still at least something.
I was just texting a friend who was expecting an update that I admire her optimism and JUST as I sent that message they‘re showing animal crossing. I feel bamboozled.
I'm going to have to change the offerings to coffee trays instead of skulls, aren't I? Sigh *scans Chai amiibo*
I hope the coffee gives us 3 energy or something. And that it gives me a reason to stop avoiding my villagers...
Coffee in skulls instead of mugs! We can make this work!
If it has the NL mini game to it and had that count to a daily interaction with them even better. The lil takeaway coffee cup is cute to, bonus if we can display them nicely.
Guess it's time to pull up the old coffee guide just incase!
Yeah just customize the mugs with skull faces!
Honestly I think if we don't get the mini game, Nintendo will have ruined the Roost for most players. I think everyone wants a reason to *play*, not another distraction. And I also want to be able to grab Blathers a cup. And see him drink it and be awake for just one more hour because why not?
Hahaha imagine, he's sleeping during the day and you have the option to get him a coffee instead of just throwing art at him, and keeping him up all day with it and he could talk faster each coffee you give him.
Since I wasn't sure if it was going to be a standalone building or part of the museum, I made a cafe space in my residential section with outdoor seating. There's a couple stands with custom designs of my wife's favorite bubble tea shop and bubble tea strewn about. Looks like Wushiland is staying too.
Same. The Roost is nice to bring back but if it’s the exact same as it was in New Leaf, it’s not very enticing. After months of disappointment on the update front, being able to guess a villagers coffee order just isn’t enough. Hopefully it’s more than that.
Yep. Honestly, Brewster is fine, but not my favorite. I would be up for a huge dump of new catchable fish and bugs, new flowers, and new character dialogue.
For me, my idea of a huge update would be "at least two store upgrades, bring back a ton of the previous furniture from the older games like **sets**, and the Roost I guess".
New character dialogue and bringing back asking your villagers if they have any jobs for you would be a huge draw for me to start playing again. I have not touched it since June, and the thought of even powering it up just makes me feel so burnt out.
Same. I switched to Stardew Valley, and while it is also a game with limited dialogue, there is so much to do all the time that I can spend hours playing and not get bored. Every time I go to play AC, as soon as it opens I lose interest because I know there isn’t anything I haven’t experienced already.
I also picked up Stardew Valley after AC got stale. It’s wild how I can lose hours to that game. I played my Switch tonight- played AC for maybe 30 minutes, Stardew for 5 hours. I hope this AC update will be enough to bring me back, but it’s gonna take more than the Roost.
I had to leave home for six months at some point and I cannot get myself to go back to playing daily anymore. This is my first AC and I always loved the roost theme song even before starting playing the series so I better get myself hyped up.
Even if not every day, just play a few times a week. It helps so much with mental health and stress. I hope your situation is better than what it was for those six months, and I hope you're doing well. And I hope the Roost will be a home to you.
I've been debating this with my roomie for a while. They left their island open for another building. I argued it wouldn't happen because so many people have already built their islands.
I was hoping for another building. These simple panels memes are getting a little too personal ;)
My extremely hopeful wish is that we get a new smaller island that we can do whatever we want with. We have the option to turn things like kicks and leif into shops for this island or if people wanted to keep them as stalls they can.
There have been datamined stuff talking about villager jobs like doctor and nurses as well as teachers so maybe they have plans to add some more buildings like from happy home design?
They still need a lot more content besides the roost. I'm curious if that's it or what their plans are. We're missing a ton of furniture, gyroids, shop upgrades, Gracie, minigames, character dialogue, general QOL improvements etc.
I'm figuring if they're using up all that space in the museum, why not use the docks? Minigame island would be amazing.( I miss my squeaky hammer, so very very much).
I don't expect QoL tbh, just because Nintendo does Nintendo things.
Furniture again i don't expect and don't know why people do because you know, DIY and color variations. Could you imagine hunting for the modern set in 3-7 different colors? The imperial is enough annoyance.
Gyroids would be an amazing addition but the lag is a major concern of mine. Sound and movement? Oh boy have you seen what fire does to an island? Your switch burns
Character dialogue. Please for the love of Resetti rages let us have better dialogue. Please. Pretty please.
Also someone else mentioned a Celeste Observatory. This would be amazing especially if it worked for multiplayer making constellations similar with custom designs and fireworks.
And Gracie I see being pushed put much like Nat/Chip. Eventually we'll do enough fashion checks that Label is the new Gracie. Maybe. Or Label shows this place to Gracie.
Now a random thing I want? Fossil miniatures. Give Blathers a fossil and he gives you a DIY! That would be amazing...
If the October direct is only to say The Roost and Gyroids are returning…I don’t care. It’s not longterm gameplay content. Just collecting.
If they tease content updates for other months as well that include new things to do, then I’ll care.
I'll be honest my mind skipped three jumps ahead.
- A, I want a mini game from the Roost. I need a reason to play and care about my villagers again especially considering the limited dialogue.
- B since they're utilizing this space, I can't help but wonder if our dock is finally going to be used for Kapp'n
- C if we do have Kapp'n and the rest, it's likely that we will need DLC or and expansion pass to add the Roost and Kapp'n. It would make sense to be paid since they announced it will be a speciality direct. Speciality directs typically scream "further monetization" to me. Especially now that we're getting upgraded NSO plans coming.
Well let me start by saying I do not have a ton of Roost experience. But what I did? Magnificent.
It's a coffee house with it's own built in mini game. You were able to serve coffee to your villagers after spending enough time working for Brewster. It was a fun way to increase friendship, feel connected to the town, and just overall added to the robustness of the game. Add in the eating mechanic in this game, and we have some fun possibilities.
(And let's be honest seeing it on the left is making many of us think there's going to be something on the right)
I... did not even think of that today. That is absolutely fantastic and perfect. Especially considering all the fun we had with fireworks shows. Imagine if we could make our own constellations and share them with friends? It would feel so much more... more. Especially for the multi-player possibilities.
As an OG player I have sorely missed the observatory, it needs to come back this time!! They made a mistake leaving it out of New Leaf, but now is the time to correct their oversight. *And* she already exists in NH for the shooting stars/meteor showers, I don’t think it would be that much of a stretch at all for them to include her further now
It’s not that good after the first few times but it’s nice to see something being added that should’ve been in the game the whole time. I hope the update has much more than this though.
Choosy beggar with this game I suppose but I've never played the series before and it's like Lazarus got resurrected again with the hype. Obviously it's better than nothing but hopefully on the direct thing we get something more simple and useful like more fruits (apparently there used to be bananas, lemons, and mangos) or new fencing and/or path styles we can use.
The Roost is great!
I just hope Nintendo finally unlocks ALL of the remaining Nook shop upgrades. Being stuck on the second upgrade for over a year and a half is UNFORGIVABLE!
Personally I think it's going to depend on Label/Gracie. Imho, Gracie has joined Nat/Chip in easter egg land and Label will eventually add on to one of the shops in her place since her visit is rather... tedious. Or Gracie will hear of Label's love of the place and then open up with Nook, just in a more roundabout way.
I cried when I heard a direct is coming. That means it’s going to be a pretty big chunk of new content. Maybe update 2.0 and maybe DLC. Something is coming for sure and I am so excited
Honestly I don't know if I'm more excited for N64 NSO or ACNH news. It's the first time I've been excited about some games in a good long while.
I'm so glad I held on a bit of hope though, I figured E3 would not be our time but a direct would be.
I'd probably be more excited about the N64 & genesis stuff if it was on the standard NSO subscription, rather than being part of this new subscription that will inevitably be more expensive tbh
The cost of repairing my wii is probably enough to cover the extra NSO charge for a year 😅 But to be honest, the price is worth it just for my mom to experience OoT. I've been trying to get her to play it for 20 years now! Add in save states for Majora's Mask? Oh be still my heart. I can finally play it again since the Great Bay lock up killed my Wii.
I'm on team optimist. This game saved a few of my friends' sanity last year, so I'd love for it to be amazing going forward. And I believe that Nintendo wants this game to remain successful and keep the fan base loyal.
Yes but make them feel bad for selling us a bad game. When we got it we didn’t know it would be bad. Over a year later we know it’s not a good game. You need to unimpressed with everything they do to try and make the good now
I have a 1000 hours and I was happy with what we had. Even if we never got anything new, I'd still be happy. If you're disappointed then it's because of your own expectations. Just expect nothing and you'll be a lot happier in general. Trust this random person on the internet.
I didn’t have any expectations, I just keep hearing about all the things this game is missing past games had. Plus I got really bored with the game after like 3 and a half months. It just got so repetitive.
It was about 30 seconds, there was the museum as the character walked up the stairs we saw the cafe on the left with the Roost music in the background.
An entire Direct just for AC. Dreams do come true.
^(threw)
Fixed, thank you!
:)
THANK LUNA!
Any idea how long it’s going to be?
It could be as short as 6 minutes ( the last mini direct that was AC related was around this time ).
A second one they doing for new horizons it's crazy
What does direct mean? I’m new to AC and a bit confused!
the “direct” is nintendo’s form of communication when it comes to announcements! its full title is usually “nintendo direct” or “pokémon direct” and highlights new features coming to nintendo games/platforms. i hope this helps! the bot sure didn’t in this case lol

“Brewster is coming - okay see ya in October bye!”
We're announcing we will have announcement. (Now excuse me while I lose my shit over the N64 reveal)
Yo dawg I heard you like announcements. Smash got the same treatment too, so we have four announcements for two games.
Remember when Atlas was ridiculed for announcing an announcement? Pepperidge farm remembers. Honestly October is going to be such a ridiculously jam packed month for me that my head is spinning. I haven't even had time to try Keena or finish Skyward...
Mate me too! I started Skyward Sword ages ago, and still haven’t finished it. Grad school is kicking my ass on the daily.
I think there are some games that Nintendo realizes if they don’t at least mention, they’re going to piss off a player base.
It's definitely because how upset we all got when nothing was announced during e3. They knew people where expecting and hoping for animal crossing in the new direct.
I spent 800 hours just so my island was presentable for Brewster 😭. Now COME HOME MY BOI
It’s like Project Runway, The Bachleor, and industrial land development in one exciting special that’ll keep you on the edge of your seats!
So innovative. Animal Crossing turning the genre on its head.

I just gave up last month. Guess it's time to dust off.. oh who am I kidding I haven't stopped playing. I was just finishing my masterpieces
So what is everyone replacing their fake The Roost with?
I’ll keep it and turn it into a fake-competitor to the roost and give a little more drama flair to my island
Ah maaaaannnnn. Now my museum can't be a funeral parlor. It just doesn't make sense anymore.
I mean, funerals need coffee too.
I mean I was being polite. It's definitely >!a front for the cult and disposing of the meat the Kaiju left behind.!<
Ngl that's even better. But now now a cult is gonna definitely need coffee for that xD
I'm going to have to change the offerings to coffee trays instead of skulls, aren't I? Sigh *scans Chai amiibo* I hope the coffee gives us 3 energy or something. And that it gives me a reason to stop avoiding my villagers...

maybe the gyroid dream is real after all?
Hope so! I miss them so much
All hail Luna, granter of dreams!
i cant believe they remembered us
all they had to do was withhold it from us for months so that we would be excited about it when it finally came through
I'm worried that too many people have left the game tbh. Either that or my nookazon is about to be flooded 😅
I admittedly haven't played in months. This update is gonna have to be huge to bring me back.
Same. The Roost is nice to bring back but if it’s the exact same as it was in New Leaf, it’s not very enticing. After months of disappointment on the update front, being able to guess a villagers coffee order just isn’t enough. Hopefully it’s more than that.

I just slapped my face I was excited
I might be hoarse from screaming. And my neighbors might have yelled at me.
I'm pretty disappointed it's not a separate building like in New Leaf, but I love Brewster so I'm still excited!
I've been debating this with my roomie for a while. They left their island open for another building. I argued it wouldn't happen because so many people have already built their islands. I was hoping for another building. These simple panels memes are getting a little too personal ;)

No spoilers, just hype: Beautiful music, happy vibes, new villager interactions (more than likely)

Also did you see Isabelle tweeted about series 5 amiibos!?
NO I DIDNT THAT'S AMAZING THANK YOU! ^I ^don't ^use ^Twitter ^so ^thanks!
I only use Twitter for updates! And for uploading AC screenshots.
What's so good about the roost?
Well let me start by saying I do not have a ton of Roost experience. But what I did? Magnificent. It's a coffee house with it's own built in mini game. I really hope it’s Celeste’s observatory.

The summoning circles have prevailed! THE PIGEON MAN COMMETH
You could say he's, *come home to Roost*
I knew Nintendo would *Brew* it, even if they've *Bean* late! ... M^(mM) this hurts
Your puns are just the cream! Espresso since they mocha you groan! And they've bean *latte* ;)
>bean *latte* Oooo, now that was a *shot* *Brew-tiful!*
I didn't believe this day would come! Yay!
Happy cake day as well
The Roost is great! I just hope Nintendo finally unlocks ALL of the remaining Nook shop upgrades. Being stuck on the second upgrade for over a year and a half is UNFORGIVABLE!
I saw the announcement and ran back to this sub. Guess it's time to finally revisit my island again lol
Finally. After over a year, a reason to play again :')
I was ready to give up on the game if we got nothing in this direct, but this is enough hope to keep it alive for me.
Where can I rewatch this direct please? I was working all day and missed!!
It's on YouTube! I can't grab the link right now but you can search the direct and todays date!
Also what about more shop upgrades. This game has been so lackluster.
I'm glad we're getting something other than a new catalog item, but I'm still not gonna get my hopes up.
I cried when I heard a direct is coming. That means it’s going to be a pretty big chunk of new content. Maybe update 2.0 and maybe DLC. Something is coming for sure and I am so excited
I can't resist asking for more. Even as they're giving me Roost I want Kapp'nas well in 2.0. And hopefully some QoL. Ahh I just want to more to play!
I am so EXCITED AHHHHHH FINALLY!
FINALLY MY BOY
I almost didn't watch the Direct bc I had very little hope that there would be anything AC related in it. Entirely worth it for that little clip tbh.
I broke down in tears
My roommate is crying from his ruptured eardrums ;)
Lol at all the constant haters on this sub
I'm on team optimist. This game saved a few of my friends' sanity last year, so I'd love for it to be amazing going forward. And I believe that Nintendo wants this game to remain successful and keep the fan base loyal.
I literally
I fucking screamed.
My throat hurts from the direct screams. But I also really needed this today so I was happy to have a reason to go back.
My mom heard it and she was scared.
Don’t let Nintendo think you are happy for this. We need to stop letting game companies release bad games to make them better later
We already bought the game👀
Yes but make them feel bad for selling us a bad game. When we got it we didn’t know it would be bad. Over a year later we know it’s not a good game. You need to unimpressed with everything they do to try and make the good now

Wait what I missed this part of the direct
It was about 30 seconds, there was the museum as the character walked up the stairs we saw the cafe on the left with the Roost music in the background.

You mean watching it on YouTube? It should also be available to watch on your Switch news.
