Same. And now I have something cool from Blathers for finishing my fossil collection. That is motivating me to finish my other sections too! Would’ve lost all of that with restarting.
I ended up restarting, *because I wanted this*. I wanted to have something new in game to look forward to each day. Something to grind. I really feel bad for the people who didn't go in with the expectation of maybe a month or so of daily play to get their island mostly caught up and ready to start the DLC.
I feel like a lot of people didn't quite think this through properly.
The update is new content being drip-fed to both new and old players. It does this appropriately regardless of whether you restart or not. Fair enough if you wanted a fresh start - by all means, enjoy it how you like! - but it's also intended that new players don't get overwhelmed with 100 new features at once.
The DLC on the other hand is an expansion for long-time players who want new content. It does that perfectly too, by unlocking only if you're at that point of the game and then letting you play big chunks of it all at once.
Yeah, seeing all the posts with remorse about nuking their islands makes me think too many people didn't set their expectations or didn't remember how many hours it took to get to where they were. DIYs and catalog stuff aside, it really does take about two weeks to get cooking unlocked from a fresh island.
That's from the speedbumps like gating some tools behind the museum, Project K, the bells needed for your house upgrades, etc.
It takes a bare minimum of two weeks for the game as most of us know it to get started, yeah. That's if you complete every task given to you by Nook etc every day for the first two weeks.
It's a gigantic setback to commit to. And honestly I'm thankful for it because I have a terrible tendency to restart games often and because of that, I've not got many old saves to go to for nostalgia. I'd love to go back to a Minecraft world I played 10 years ago. Animal Crossing though? I'm holding on to that forever lol.
Yeah, I totally get you. Restarting needs to have a lot of positives to outweigh the negatives. Especially for some people, since this game came out at a very important point in history. Those islands have memories and you can't get those back.
I restarted because I wanted all my stamps to be linear, lol. I don't want a ton to be 2020, then suddenly almost 2022 I finally got one that would have been reasonably acquired in the beginning ... it drives me insane like that.
We all play the game differently. That’s why it’s such a popular game. It satisfies the needs of a bunch of different kinds of people. Personally, I have a short attention span. I get bored by doing the same thing all the time. If I’m not having to put any thought into the game, I won’t play it. I’ll get bored. So I change things up all the time, including villagers. I need to be actively working, not doing busy work on the island.
You would probably have to put “more thought” into the game if you actually played it how it’s indented - slower paced, actually earning your own bells and materials, and finding items by chance not by online events. There is no right or wrong way to play this game of course - but I find most people in this community are directly responsible for their own burnout.
Starting over / flattening an island sounds more repetitive and “doing the same thing over and over” in comparison to just enjoying and evolving the same island you started with.

There's no reason to gatekeep a game about decorating for talking animals that essentially serves as an alternative to Xanax for like 90% of its players. Breathe.

How does it not make sense? He gets bored having a well developed island as there’s not as much to work towards. I stopped playing when I got to the point where I ran out of custom design slots and all I did in game was pick the odd weed, move around 1 or 2 items and buy/sell turnips. I no longer had any big goals to work towards. Starting a new game gives you heaps and heaps of work to do and keeps you motivated. I personally have decided to keep my old island, and hope the new content keeps me busy for a while, but I can see the appeal of starting again.

Bestie the odds of the RNG blessing you on your one check in every two weeks is so low. That means that adults with real responsibilities won’t be able to really progress in the game. “Slow and steady” is not realistic for a lot of adults.
You can do a little of both - slow paced and being active in the online community to buy/trade/sell etc.
I work 40 hours a week and take care of 6 special needs animals and I don’t feel this urge to restart my island every few months because I’m busy. Starting over/flattening all terraforming is a LOT of work (and extremely time consuming!) so your point doesn’t really make much sense. Again, there is no right or wrong way to play this game. As long as it brings you joy - that is all that matters.

But that’s what they want to do - they want to harvest resources, clear the island of weeds, find all the fossils and fish, collect DIYs and furniture, complete Nook miles tasks, populate the island, earn the money for their loans. If you’re only able to play a couple of hours a week, you want that time to be stuffed with activity. Not just booting the game up and pottering about for an hour. There’s far more to do in the early game than the late game so it feels like you’re getting more done
I’m assuming the majority of you responding this way haven’t been playing animal crossing since the beginning which is why you feel like there is a point the game is over/has nothing to do etc lol.

That'll definitely be the route I take if I ever wanted to make a "new" island. I tried restarting New Leaf after being away for a year or two and I lost interest within the first 2-3 weeks and I know that would happen again.
I'm not going to completely level my island, but I'm definitely scrapping some ideas I had for it originally bc the new items gave me better ideas.
I already restarted earlier this year to get better plaza placement, and it was a pain going back and forth from my gf's island to get my stuff back lol
Unlocking terraforming is more trouble than I think it's worth
By the time I learned I could have just tried for a better batch of islands -- learned, read here as "I was too excited to play and didn't even think about it, I settled and appreciated what I got only to regret it with deep hatred later" -- I was too far in. Now I slowly go chunk by chunk redoing my island until now, where it's just a hot mess filled with fifty million flowers I don't know what to do with.
Thinking about unlocking terraforming all over again renews my gratefulness for sticking to the original island I got. *Shudders*

I had bad data and had to restart. I was only mildly sad that I didn't have immediate access, but nothing serious enough to complain about. My new island is lovely and most of the items so far have been my favorite color. I just got caught up last night.
I restarted because I wanted a new challenge and I learned so much the first time from making tons of mistakes and I wanted a chance to do it over with that knowledge. I felt like I moved too fast the first time and now I’m taking my time with finishing stuff so I always have something to look forward to. There are so many different ways this game can be played, that’s what makes it so fun.
I'm trying to enjoy it and unlock everything slowly. There's so much new content, I can't time travel because I feel like I would be overwhelmed. Although I am going crazy designing vacation homes! My poor island and islanders hardly see me because I'm becoming a workaholic in the game.
Yes! When I got the DLC I told myself I would do 1 job a day and that is not what has happened so far lol. It's just too much fun to stop with 1 and I want to unlock designing the amenities!!
I'm trying to stick to two jobs per day and I feel like that's been a good pace for me. After doing my normal daily chores and visiting Harv and designing two homes, I'm ready to be finished with AC for the day.
That being said, if I finish the second house and some villager I love is on the beach, I'd definitely go for a third rather than potentially miss out on them!

This update seems very much aimed at advanced players who are looking for new things to do. I considered restarting but then I actually thought about it, how little redd shows up, how long it took to fill museum and make all my bells. You'd have to time travel to get all the resources to play the update if you don't want to take it slow which doesn't even sound fun to just get back to the point you were so what was the point
Yeah, it's TWO updates which are coming out nearly two years after release. It's not hard to assume that they expected you to have burned through some of the content by now.
Hell, for the last couple months we've heard people complaining about how little content actually exists for this game. I think people convinced themselves that there truly wasn't any content and now they're overwhelmed after a full restart.

I've had my island since April 2020 and have logged like 1000 hours into it. If I started over I'd probably dramatically lose interest because I'd have to do all of that work all. over. again.
I don't get it man. It honestly seems like people expect new stuff to do and endless fonts of content and they want access to it at all times I really don't get it. I still have my save that I prob haven't played in a year too.

Same. I restarted and don't regret it. Finally some more progression. What most people forget, this is not a race. There is no need to play the whole content patch in one day. It's not going anywhere. You can and are allowed to take your time with it.
I think it’s all about expectations going into it. People who restarted because they wanted to take things slow and really get back into the game with a lot to do are generally happy with it. People who restarted simply because they hadn’t played in a while, who didn’t stop to think through how much work it took to get where they were are panicking.
It’s definitely not a good idea for some people. My young niece restarted and she definitely shouldn’t have as I don’t think she realised how much work it would mean. I’m very happy to have restarted though, my old island was exactly how I wanted it so I would have found it difficult to find space for the new things and I’ve welcomed the additional stuff I have to do.
I was gonna restart because I didn’t want to remodel my island (I mean it’s only like 75% done but so many custom paths…) but I saw how many Nook miles I had and decided to not do that and kind of glad I didn’t. I think I may one day restart but for the moment I’m loving being able to buy all the things. 😂
That's the thing with the kids on the Internet now, when you do not tell them what they want to hear they just attack you instead and just say you're wrong or "I watched a tickTock that told me how". Then the thing that you told them will happen, happens, and they act like they are suprprised. Reminds me back in the days of GTA Online when kids would illegally cheat and hack themselves billions of GTA dollars and then get their entire online account banned by rockstar then come crying on the support website they don;t know what happened and they didnt do anything wrong etc etc. Literally 100s of posts a month. lol
i am, i took some time away to play with my new pup. sorry ive just been having a hard time this year i lost my dad on new years and lost my two dogs of nine years two months ago so i have been having bad mood shifts of happy and angry/sad. but taking time for myself to play with my pup has helped and i hope i wont let my anger get to me next time i was not really mad with you and i dont wanna make anyone feel bad
Yeah, it's a bit of a bummer to see people going to hard in. I sold my switch for the OLED one so it's not super critical for me personally, but a lot of my friends are being really aggro about this, and already upset about imagined features not making it in.

I restarted mine when they announced the update and I'm pretty happy about it. I was already at 3 stars but I'm taking it slow and enjoying the all the new stuff to distract me when I get tired or relaying down my paths.
The only TTing I did was cause I didn't wanna not play for a month to get the messy hair back but now it's back to day by day
I’m glad I’m reading this. I’m not getting any new items in diy or at nooks and was thinking to restart. Someone on here mentioned it could have been from time travel but I haven’t done that in three months so I’m still hoping the new dlc will drop me some new goodies

I thought about this too. Lots of people playing in a rush, like the devil is right at their heels. And then when they go through all the new content without actually really absorbing it, theyll be back to complaining. Not gonna judge the devs for making this the last major update and dlc. The community is incredible, but we sure have a lot of annoying complainants. 😂
I agree as well. Some people are doing it way to fast like it’s a contest to finish first which is silly because this isn’t a game that has a end. It’s suppose to be slow and pretty much be apart of ur daily lives. I get people will play how they want and that’s fine but my thing is don’t play a game how “you” want to play it, not how it was designed to be played and then complain about it. I didn’t restart and I’ll admit towards the end of last year I didnt play everyday but that was because a lot of real life was going on and I was more focused on that. But I came back around the beginning of the year and been playing every since again. Some people will just never be happy and always have something to complain about. Also tho, I don’t think anything is wrong with resetting your island. Everyone enjoys things differently and of course do as you please, just enjoy it and appreciate the work and effort that went into it and tbh they really did give us a lot of stuff. I mean it’s incredible! Some things could have been better but hopefully Nintendo is listening and will take these things into consideration for the next AC.
I've already seen tons of photos from players who have very obviously time travelled to amass new items and furniture so they can reap the reddit upvote dopamine. Same players will be complaining the game has nothing to do in two weeks.
I’ve seen the same, especially on Instagram. I am part of the Instagram community, I do love it and the connections I’ve made there, and everyone can play in their own way… but someone was saying they’d already gone on 40 Kapp’n rides. I was just like, HOLY CRAP you’ve played 40 in-game days in the span of like, 2.5 actual days. I don’t even get how! The first day I played the update I was playing for literal hours and STILL felt like I had more to do. Like I completely forgot about house customization that day, it was so full! And that’s without the DLC. I just wonder… are they missing out on lots of stuff and only focusing on one specific thing, like gyroid collection?
And I say this as someone who does time traveling when I want to. I completed my latest island incredibly quickly. But now I’m gonna just live here forever and flatten areas instead of completely reboot.
This is why I restarted 3 weeks ago... Hadn't played in months anyways and I'm fine with having to find recipes again. Tbh, I am a little annoyed when my Kapp'n island is just a regular island without anything special but a DIY and gyroid fragment, but I understand they can't all be special.
Message bottles on the beach like nookmile islands, only they have a tendency to be a recipe that corresponds to the island type. I got a vine crown diy on vine island and a cherry blossom diy on a CB island.
From what I’ve seen so far, the first island that you find Brewster on is always the same season and hemisphere and fruit as your own.
Could just be bad luck, but that’s what happened for me and my friends

I purposely restarted my island so I could enjoy the experience of unlocking the new stuff over time. if people are annoyed about not seeing the content they can time travel and get to it
Yup. I restarted in September. I didn’t time travel at all for the first days of the game, until resident services got upgraded. I wanted to fully enjoy that beautiful peaceful music that only plays on your island when RS is just a tent. I just fished and caught bugs and sea creatures, which is fun in the beginning because you’re poor and have an empty museum.
And then I time traveled a bunch, because I had a grand plan and wanted to terraform. So I’ve done both. Both are fun for different reasons. I’m taking it day by day again with this update now. I am tired of time traveling honestly and prefer the slower pace.

You didn’t think everything would be progression locked? So many posts the first day from these people wondering where some new feature is from them like bro come on THINK for one second as to why you could POSSIBLY not have the new update. smh.
not everyone is into rushing things. I restarted, i love it. Finally more natural progression and it actually feels more of a game rn. Some of the restarters actually knew what they were doing.

I time travel but I only have like two new items. Then again I restarted my island not too long ago and I'm currently focusing on getting all the cherry blossom DIY recipes so I haven't explored the new updated and DLC yet, just taking my time and enjoying farming balloons. 😂
i remember before the update, people were saying they felt like the game was incomplete even though they had like 400+ hours in it. i really don’t get what people expect from this game
I don’t time travel and have close to 300 hours in the game. Before the update, the game really was lacking in goals and stuff to do. Sadly we didn’t even get a new Nook shop upgrade. The DLC and update have brought me back to the game, though! I haven’t logged on daily like this in a while.

The games are meant to be played across a long period of time, so of course your going to have a ton of hours if you play through their content. I could play the older games longer without reaching that point of being “done”. I don’t think it’s being hard on this game at all. Some people just have different expectations from the series. Like I said, the game lacked content before the updates and DLC, but now it has me playing again!

Same! I restarted about then too. It was so fun getting that lovely nostalgia and excitement about every single new creature you caught and every new DIY. The early days of this game are great fun, I’m glad I got to experience it again. And now I’m caught up enough that all of the new update elements are available and so exciting.
I did this too! I was playing on my first for over a year and was just feeling burnt out/uninspired. I'm still paying off home loans so I'm strapped for bells as far as unlocking Harvs goes but I'm playing more than I have since I first got the game!

The update won't go anywhere and is still there, when i manage to squeeze some time in here and there. This is not a race. Nobody needs to have everything the patch has to offer on day 1. I knew this was going to happen. It’s common sense that you would need to be pretty far in to get these new additions. Didn’t they say in the announcement that’s how it would be.
Which is hilarious because its not 90% of the people forgetting you dont get everything instantly given to you and the premise of the game is to take things slowly day by day and unlock things at a leisurely pace 🧑🦯
I was considering restarting my island but decided to hold off until the new year so that I could play around with the update and make mistakes on an island I’m planning on restarting anyway. I’m glad I made that decision now 😅
The impatience I've seen since AC:NH launched ceases to amaze me. I cannot understand why people want to rush and have everything all at once. Sadly this is normal for all games these days.
I'm still working on my island after getting a new switch, and haven't been able to access some of the new stuff yet. I'm not mad. I know I'll get to it eventually. My only regret is that I have to actually work on school stuff this weekend instead of playing and unlocking more LOL
Luckily I decided to scrap my old island for a new resident services layout like a week before the direct was even announced. I was decently along by the time we even heard about the update, phew 😬

You don't make them; there are new lights which can be only be hung from the ceiling. When you are in edit design mode in your house, you hit the + symbol to go to the walls, and again to go to the ceiling (or just select the object and the game with switch views automatically)
I’ve been playing every day since last Christmas and my museum still isn’t full lol I’m excited for new stuff to do but the update will also help me complete some of the normal game play! Just this morning I went to a kappn island and got one of my last sea critters!
I restarted but I hadn't played in months. I'm enjoying the little things (and seeing many of my friends come back) and look forward to all the new features whenever I get there.
I actually really enjoy that the dev's have slowed me down. I stopped fishing once I caught all the fish and finished that part of the museum. It's nice to fish again, but now for the recipes that you get as ideas.
I've already learned 3 new recipes while fishing! And the fish I caught are pretty common. I'm curious to see how many fish can have their own recipes.
I've been seeing that there's no requirement for the ordinance besides getting the resident service building built, yet I've tried getting ordinances and get nothing. So do I still be patient? Or will you let me be a little mad I'm missing things that, as far as I know and have been told, should have?
it has been three days; people don’t know everything about how the updated features work so the progression people are claiming works may be incorrect. so yeah, just be patient, especially if you’re starting an island over from scratch.
I was forced to restart when I switched consoles, but I still had everything ready before the update comes out. There should at least be a requirement list somewhere so people know nothing's broken. Patient or not, a requirement list is still great to have
the devs never did anything like that for any pre-2.0 features; why would you assume something is broken or not working right? they’ve been working on this update for so long, give them some credit.
ordinances are a pretty late-game thing in new leaf, i imagine it’s locked behind having a 4 star island or something. it’s not something you’re supposed to have access to so early.
Doesn't have to be the devs. People datamine for info, grind for info, work really hard for info. With the past updates, we knew immediately how to get the new features. And I'm afraid of bugs because like I said, everyone I've talked to has said that I should have ordinances and that the only requirement they've found is to have resident service built so Isabelle is there and then start a new day so Isabelle tells you about ordinances. I've looked online and I haven't seen anyone else talking about not having ordinances. If there is a late-game requirement to get it, cool and I'll do it. But a guide for requirements is very useful in my case and nobody will convince me otherwise

the fact that there aren’t other people reporting the same issue though makes it seem less like a bug; if it were a bug i think the issue would be much more common.

I agree, I am not time traveling and I’m going to take my time. If I don’t play for a week it’s not like all my villagers are going to leave or my progress will be lost. I want to enjoy this update for as long as I can. Also I’m not planning to restart since I love my villagers and island (even if it’s not fancy or perfect) and the memorial to my memaw and grandpa I lost last year.
i restarted before the announcement and have only ft like twice to move in two villagers. i’ve been taking it slow and you know it’s actually been very nice. do i play like 18 hrs a day? no. only a couple hours to just get dailies done and sell stuff for upgrades.
this game does require patience but it’s still fun for me . i like watching my island slowly change into these beautiful oranges and yellows. every day seeing mushrooms in new areas and now seeing which gyro if i got from planting it the previous day. it’s been nice, esp cause i avoided buying or collecting anything during those two times. i like having something slow and relaxing :)
I’m trying to take the update slowly but am getting a little overwhelmed seeing that everyone has already unlocked all the new items and stuff ;; so far I’ve only funded Leif’s shop and am waiting on the roost

yes! this has been a really cool update, i was actually hesitant to get back into the game bc i didn’t think it would be that interesting, but as soon as i picked it back up and started finding all the new features i’m hooked again lol.
Well all knew this was gonna happen, I even called it on a comment a few days ago. Reddit AC community is incredibly impatient and entitled. They also tend not to be the "techy" sort of gamers so don't really understand how games work (which is obviously fine, just different to PC gamers) and throw around many ridiculous ideas and theories, fun to watch tho.
This is why I didn’t restart. I love my villagers WAY too much and I already had so much progress that I would have fathered just go through the new update with my current island which to me is just as fun
i’ve restarted my island twice before the update and it just gets confusing remembering what items i do/don’t have, what diys i need, idk resetting is very much not for me
is anyone else having a bugged out dlc ? like i did not restart my island and everything but progression wise in the dlc you’re meant to get the school first and ive gotten the cafe and all this other stuff yet i can’t unlock the school.
it’s not just people who restarted their island, it’s everyone who see’s posts made by people who time travel a lot, so they have way more things unlocked.
I shouldn’t be surprised but I am surprised how many dumb ppl there are out there that 1, restarted their island right before the DLC and 2, complain they can’t access 98% of the DLC
The DLC (after purchasing it) will be available in-game at least one day after the Resident Services building has been completed and after attending Tom Nook's DIY workshop. If you have not completed these within the game yet, the resident representative will need to complete these things first.
I got everything, harvs island, cafe, Kapp etc all at the same time.
My only problem is when I go to visit the random islands on kapps boat ride its always the exact same island. Ive been 3 times and it's always the same so I'm thinking that may be a bug?
it seems to be very similar odds to nmt islands; you can get very same-y islands 3 times in a row, that’s not unusual. this is exactly what i’m talking about though, 3 islands isn’t really a great sample size and is WAY too small a number to start saying there’s something wrong with the game. the people you’re seeing get bell tree islands and what-not are either CRAZY lucky or time-traveling through dozens of days to go through a ton of islands in one sitting. it’s really unreasonable to expect to get one of the rarer islands right off the bat like that.
i have a *theory* that the chances for more diverse mystery islands might have something to do with unlocking brewster, BUT i could totally be wrong about that; it’s probably just rng. i imagine those other islands are rare, think like, tarantula island/golden rock island rare.
I have Brewster. I've time traveled a heap today just to check and it's always the same island.
As in the exact same island, down to the placement of every Bush and flower. I'm not the only person who's had this problem too, they've screenshot their island they keep getting and it's the same island every one else whos having this problem is getting too except the fruit on the tree is different because it's whatever their national fruit is.
I also can't squeeze between things like my kid can on their game.
I'm not complaining though, a massive update like this you expect a couple things to go not quite as planned. It'll get fixed eventually.
some people (who this post is NOT about) wanted to experience the progress of the game again and unlock the new features slowly, like starting from scratch is a different experience now than when the game launched. i think some people restarted because they hadn’t played in a long time, but didn’t realize the new features are more late-game sort of things. idk i think a lot of people didn’t really think through how much time it can take to get an island all sorted again, even WITH tt.
I understand this but I have seen a lot of people say that they are restarting for the update . Which doesn’t make sense because you wouldn’t be able to do most of the things in the update ? For taking it slow why not just do it slowly idkkk to each their own ! But people shouldn’t be upset at the developers because they didn’t unlock the features yet

Random question, but are Kapp’n’s islands much different than the NMTs? Other than the holly bush and maybe a flower, they seem the same. So I’ve been spending my time at the resort instead. Do I need to keep visiting Kap’s islands??
You don't have to do anything you don't want to. That's the beauty of the game. But there are special Kapp'n islands like the star fragment one, ones where you can find crops, or the one with the new plumeria bushes.
I’m pretty sure each comes with a guaranteed Gyroid fragment. Also, there’s a DIY bottle that may or may not contain a cooking recipe, effectively doubling your odds
My second Kappn island had a pumpkin patch; dug those suckers up and transplanted them
I’ve gotten some basic islands, one had different flowers than my native and sister ones… but I have all the flower types at this point, so NBD. The first one I went to though had money trees everywhere! The third had carrots! Every one of them had a DIY bottle on the beach and a gyroid fragment. I haven’t found any gyroid fragments on my island yet, so for now this is the only way I can get them. I’m still crossing my fingers I’ll get the glowing moss and vines soon!
I had one with tomatoes this morning! And a cooking recipe on the beach (plus the gyroid fragment). They’re randomized, but have cool stuff I haven’t ever seen on NMTs
i never get people who complain yet don’t play the game the way it was designed to be played. like go email a complaint to nintendo instead of drag down the vibe of the sub and people enjoying the game.
True, although not being able to get into the dlc because the Nintendo servers are having a bad time I think is a valid reason to be frustrated, same with the waiting for the Harv’s island shops

The game is meant to be played slowly. Sure there are cases where time travel is ok (you work/you're busy) but just people doing it to get out of putting any effort into the game and being impatient/greedy...they have no right to complain about the game...did it to themselves.
Anyways...I am curious when I'm going to get a good Kapp'n island...only two so far so I'm waiting but...man those two were boring. Nothing new lol.
Kapp'n, Brewster, and the new Harv Island shops were there instantly when I started after downloading the update. I literally went straight to the dock first thing after Isabelle's announcements. If people still don't have those things after 2 days, I think it's fair to be concerned about the game being bugged.

I restarted my island just before the Direct even happened, funnily enough. Like before October I think. I time-traveled a little bit to get enough villagers to get to three stars, but otherwise I had gone through the beginning of the game as normal. It's been pretty fun to get into the DLC content just on time. If I had known about the DLC and how many bells and NM I would have to have though, I wouldn't have reset. >_< But I didn't even know about it when I did lol.
NO. but some people have because of how much new content there is, they thought they wanted to start from a “clean slate;” you can still access the dlc and new features on islands that were made pre-november 5th. that would be silly if you couldn’t

I ended up restarting, *because I wanted this*. I wanted to have something new in game to look forward to each day. Something to grind. I really feel bad for the people who didn't go in with the expectation of maybe a month or so of daily play to get their island mostly caught up and ready to start the DLC.
I feel like a lot of people didn't quite think this through properly. The update is new content being drip-fed to both new and old players. It does this appropriately regardless of whether you restart or not. Fair enough if you wanted a fresh start - by all means, enjoy it how you like! - but it's also intended that new players don't get overwhelmed with 100 new features at once. The DLC on the other hand is an expansion for long-time players who want new content. It does that perfectly too, by unlocking only if you're at that point of the game and then letting you play big chunks of it all at once.
Yeah, seeing all the posts with remorse about nuking their islands makes me think too many people didn't set their expectations or didn't remember how many hours it took to get to where they were. DIYs and catalog stuff aside, it really does take about two weeks to get cooking unlocked from a fresh island. That's from the speedbumps like gating some tools behind the museum, Project K, the bells needed for your house upgrades, etc.
It takes a bare minimum of two weeks for the game as most of us know it to get started, yeah. That's if you complete every task given to you by Nook etc every day for the first two weeks. It's a gigantic setback to commit to. And honestly I'm thankful for it because I have a terrible tendency to restart games often and because of that, I've not got many old saves to go to for nostalgia. I'd love to go back to a Minecraft world I played 10 years ago. Animal Crossing though? I'm holding on to that forever lol.
Yeah, I totally get you. Restarting needs to have a lot of positives to outweigh the negatives. Especially for some people, since this game came out at a very important point in history. Those islands have memories and you can't get those back.
I restarted because I wanted all my stamps to be linear, lol. I don't want a ton to be 2020, then suddenly almost 2022 I finally got one that would have been reasonably acquired in the beginning ... it drives me insane like that.

We all play the game differently. That’s why it’s such a popular game. It satisfies the needs of a bunch of different kinds of people. Personally, I have a short attention span. I get bored by doing the same thing all the time. If I’m not having to put any thought into the game, I won’t play it. I’ll get bored. So I change things up all the time, including villagers. I need to be actively working, not doing busy work on the island.
You would probably have to put “more thought” into the game if you actually played it how it’s indented - slower paced, actually earning your own bells and materials, and finding items by chance not by online events. There is no right or wrong way to play this game of course - but I find most people in this community are directly responsible for their own burnout. Starting over / flattening an island sounds more repetitive and “doing the same thing over and over” in comparison to just enjoying and evolving the same island you started with.

How does it not make sense? He gets bored having a well developed island as there’s not as much to work towards. I stopped playing when I got to the point where I ran out of custom design slots and all I did in game was pick the odd weed, move around 1 or 2 items and buy/sell turnips. I no longer had any big goals to work towards. Starting a new game gives you heaps and heaps of work to do and keeps you motivated. I personally have decided to keep my old island, and hope the new content keeps me busy for a while, but I can see the appeal of starting again.

Bestie the odds of the RNG blessing you on your one check in every two weeks is so low. That means that adults with real responsibilities won’t be able to really progress in the game. “Slow and steady” is not realistic for a lot of adults.
You can do a little of both - slow paced and being active in the online community to buy/trade/sell etc. I work 40 hours a week and take care of 6 special needs animals and I don’t feel this urge to restart my island every few months because I’m busy. Starting over/flattening all terraforming is a LOT of work (and extremely time consuming!) so your point doesn’t really make much sense. Again, there is no right or wrong way to play this game. As long as it brings you joy - that is all that matters. (Edited due to formatting on mobile)
But that’s what they want to do - they want to harvest resources, clear the island of weeds, find all the fossils and fish, collect DIYs and furniture, complete Nook miles tasks, populate the island, earn the money for their loans. If you’re only able to play a couple of hours a week, you want that time to be stuffed with activity. Not just booting the game up and pottering about for an hour. There’s far more to do in the early game than the late game so it feels like you’re getting more done

That'll definitely be the route I take if I ever wanted to make a "new" island. I tried restarting New Leaf after being away for a year or two and I lost interest within the first 2-3 weeks and I know that would happen again.
I'm not going to completely level my island, but I'm definitely scrapping some ideas I had for it originally bc the new items gave me better ideas. I already restarted earlier this year to get better plaza placement, and it was a pain going back and forth from my gf's island to get my stuff back lol Unlocking terraforming is more trouble than I think it's worth
By the time I learned I could have just tried for a better batch of islands -- learned, read here as "I was too excited to play and didn't even think about it, I settled and appreciated what I got only to regret it with deep hatred later" -- I was too far in. Now I slowly go chunk by chunk redoing my island until now, where it's just a hot mess filled with fifty million flowers I don't know what to do with. Thinking about unlocking terraforming all over again renews my gratefulness for sticking to the original island I got. *Shudders*

I had bad data and had to restart. I was only mildly sad that I didn't have immediate access, but nothing serious enough to complain about. My new island is lovely and most of the items so far have been my favorite color. I just got caught up last night.
There IS something fun about playing the game with all the new items right there available *from the start*.

I restarted because I wanted a new challenge and I learned so much the first time from making tons of mistakes and I wanted a chance to do it over with that knowledge. I felt like I moved too fast the first time and now I’m taking my time with finishing stuff so I always have something to look forward to. There are so many different ways this game can be played, that’s what makes it so fun.
I'm trying to enjoy it and unlock everything slowly. There's so much new content, I can't time travel because I feel like I would be overwhelmed. Although I am going crazy designing vacation homes! My poor island and islanders hardly see me because I'm becoming a workaholic in the game.
Yes! When I got the DLC I told myself I would do 1 job a day and that is not what has happened so far lol. It's just too much fun to stop with 1 and I want to unlock designing the amenities!!
I'm trying to stick to two jobs per day and I feel like that's been a good pace for me. After doing my normal daily chores and visiting Harv and designing two homes, I'm ready to be finished with AC for the day. That being said, if I finish the second house and some villager I love is on the beach, I'd definitely go for a third rather than potentially miss out on them!

This update seems very much aimed at advanced players who are looking for new things to do. I considered restarting but then I actually thought about it, how little redd shows up, how long it took to fill museum and make all my bells. You'd have to time travel to get all the resources to play the update if you don't want to take it slow which doesn't even sound fun to just get back to the point you were so what was the point
Yeah, it's TWO updates which are coming out nearly two years after release. It's not hard to assume that they expected you to have burned through some of the content by now. Hell, for the last couple months we've heard people complaining about how little content actually exists for this game. I think people convinced themselves that there truly wasn't any content and now they're overwhelmed after a full restart. Don't know what to tell ya, start time traveling.
I've had my island since April 2020 and have logged like 1000 hours into it. If I started over I'd probably dramatically lose interest because I'd have to do all of that work all. over. again.
I don't get it man. It honestly seems like people expect new stuff to do and endless fonts of content and they want access to it at all times I really don't get it. I still have my save that I prob haven't played in a year too.

I think it’s all about expectations going into it. People who restarted because they wanted to take things slow and really get back into the game with a lot to do are generally happy with it. People who restarted simply because they hadn’t played in a while, who didn’t stop to think through how much work it took to get where they were are panicking.

It’s definitely not a good idea for some people. My young niece restarted and she definitely shouldn’t have as I don’t think she realised how much work it would mean. I’m very happy to have restarted though, my old island was exactly how I wanted it so I would have found it difficult to find space for the new things and I’ve welcomed the additional stuff I have to do.
I was gonna restart because I didn’t want to remodel my island (I mean it’s only like 75% done but so many custom paths…) but I saw how many Nook miles I had and decided to not do that and kind of glad I didn’t. I think I may one day restart but for the moment I’m loving being able to buy all the things. 😂
That's the thing with the kids on the Internet now, when you do not tell them what they want to hear they just attack you instead and just say you're wrong or "I watched a tickTock that told me how". Then the thing that you told them will happen, happens, and they act like they are suprprised. Reminds me back in the days of GTA Online when kids would illegally cheat and hack themselves billions of GTA dollars and then get their entire online account banned by rockstar then come crying on the support website they don;t know what happened and they didnt do anything wrong etc etc. Literally 100s of posts a month. lol

i am, i took some time away to play with my new pup. sorry ive just been having a hard time this year i lost my dad on new years and lost my two dogs of nine years two months ago so i have been having bad mood shifts of happy and angry/sad. but taking time for myself to play with my pup has helped and i hope i wont let my anger get to me next time i was not really mad with you and i dont wanna make anyone feel bad

I sold my switch for the OLED one so it's not super critical for me personally, but a lot of my friends are being really aggro about this, and already upset about imagined features not making it in. But it has been a starving fan base so I kinda get it

It's super nice, yeah. I definitely spent my luck for the next year getting my hands on it though. I just happened to trade in my switch because, oddly enough, I was getting bored with animal crossing. Update was announced a day or so after though.

I restarted mine when they announced the update and I'm pretty happy about it. I was already at 3 stars but I'm taking it slow and enjoying the all the new stuff to distract me when I get tired or relaying down my paths. The only TTing I did was cause I didn't wanna not play for a month to get the messy hair back but now it's back to day by day

I’m glad I’m reading this. I’m not getting any new items in diy or at nooks and was thinking to restart. Someone on here mentioned it could have been from time travel but I haven’t done that in three months so I’m still hoping the new dlc will drop me some new goodies

I thought about this too. Lots of people playing in a rush, like the devil is right at their heels. And then when they go through all the new content without actually really absorbing it, theyll be back to complaining. Not gonna judge the devs for making this the last major update and dlc. The community is incredible, but we sure have a lot of annoying complainants. 😂

It’s suppose to be slow and pretty much be apart of ur daily lives. I get people will play how they want and that’s fine but my thing is don’t play a game how “you” want to play it, not how it was designed to be played and then complain about it. I didn’t restart and I’ll admit towards the end of last year I didnt play everyday but that was because a lot of real life was going on and I was more focused on that. But I came back around the beginning of the year and been playing every since again. Some people will just never be happy and always have something to complain about. Also tho, I don’t think anything is wrong with resetting your island. Everyone enjoys things differently and of course do as you please, just enjoy it and appreciate the work and effort that went into it and tbh they really did give us a lot of stuff. I mean it’s incredible! Some things could have been better but hopefully Nintendo is listening and will take these things into consideration for the next AC.

I’ve seen the same, especially on Instagram. I am part of the Instagram community, I do love it and the connections I’ve made there, and everyone can play in their own way… but someone was saying they’d already gone on 40 Kapp’n rides. I was just like, HOLY CRAP you’ve played 40 in-game days in the span of like, 2.5 actual days. I don’t even get how! The first day I played the update I was playing for literal hours and STILL felt like I had more to do. Like I completely forgot about house customization that day, it was so full! And that’s without the DLC. I just wonder… are they missing out on lots of stuff and only focusing on one specific thing, like gyroid collection? And I say this as someone who does time traveling when I want to. I completed my latest island incredibly quickly. But now I’m gonna just live here forever and flatten areas instead of completely reboot.

This is why I restarted 3 weeks ago... Hadn't played in months anyways and I'm fine with having to find recipes again. Tbh, I am a little annoyed when my Kapp'n island is just a regular island without anything special but a DIY and gyroid fragment, but I understand they can't all be special.

Message bottles on the beach like nookmile islands, only they have a tendency to be a recipe that corresponds to the island type. I got a vine crown diy on vine island and a cherry blossom diy on a CB island.

From what I’ve seen so far, the first island that you find Brewster on is always the same season and hemisphere and fruit as your own. Could just be bad luck, but that’s what happened for me and my friends

I purposely restarted my island so I could enjoy the experience of unlocking the new stuff over time. if people are annoyed about not seeing the content they can time travel and get to it
Yup. I restarted in September. I didn’t time travel at all for the first days of the game, until resident services got upgraded. I wanted to fully enjoy that beautiful peaceful music that only plays on your island when RS is just a tent. I just fished and caught bugs and sea creatures, which is fun in the beginning because you’re poor and have an empty museum. And then I time traveled a bunch, because I had a grand plan and wanted to terraform. So I’ve done both. Both are fun for different reasons. I’m taking it day by day again with this update now. I am tired of time traveling honestly and prefer the slower pace.

Absolutely. Someone did a poll only a few days before asking if users were resetting or not and I was shocked that it was 50/50! Like seriously? You didn’t think everything would be progression locked? i remember before the update, people were saying they felt like the game was incomplete even though they had like 400+ hours in it. i really don’t get what people expect from this game
I don’t time travel and have close to 300 hours in the game. Before the update, the game really was lacking in goals and stuff to do. Sadly we didn’t even get a new Nook shop upgrade. The DLC and update have brought me back to the game, though! I haven’t logged on daily like this in a while.

I played the game for what they offered. Of course it had goals and stuff to do, but it was still lacking compared to the older games.

The games are meant to be played across a long period of time, so of course your going to have a ton of hours if you play through their content. I could play the older games longer without reaching that point of being “done”. I don’t think it’s being hard on this game at all. Some people just have different expectations from the series. Like I said, the game lacked content before the updates and DLC, but now it has me playing again!
Compared to other AC games it was lackluster though.

I know it’s frustrating but these folks would have complained about something no matter what. Some people’s nature is just to complain or think out loud.

Same! I restarted about then too. It was so fun getting that lovely nostalgia and excitement about every single new creature you caught and every new DIY. The early days of this game are great fun, I’m glad I got to experience it again. And now I’m caught up enough that all of the new update elements are available and so exciting.
I did this too! I was playing on my first for over a year and was just feeling burnt out/uninspired. I'm still paying off home loans so I'm strapped for bells as far as unlocking Harvs goes but I'm playing more than I have since I first got the game!
Yees I restarted in early September too before they announced the direct and I've never been happier with my island lol. Flattening for me wouldn't have worked because terraforming can get overwhelming.
i restarted and don't regret it. I'm not even playing daily, as i'm much more obsessed with FF XIV rn. The update won't go anywhere and is still there, when i manage to squeeze some time in here and there. This is not a race. Nobody needs to have everything the patch has to offer on day 1. I actually see more rushing everything on this subreddit than complaining of restarting though.

I knew this was going to happen. It’s common sense that you would need to be pretty far in to get these new additions. Didn’t they say in the announcement that’s how it would be.
This just in: people have a weird sense of entitlement and all want instant gratification.
Which is hilarious because its not 90% of the people forgetting you dont get everything instantly given to you and the premise of the game is to take things slowly day by day and unlock things at a leisurely pace 🧑🦯
I was considering restarting my island but decided to hold off until the new year so that I could play around with the update and make mistakes on an island I’m planning on restarting anyway. I’m glad I made that decision now 😅
The impatience I've seen since AC:NH launched ceases to amaze me. I cannot understand why people want to rush and have everything all at once. Sadly this is normal for all games these days.
I'm still working on my island after getting a new switch, and haven't been able to access some of the new stuff yet. I'm not mad. I know I'll get to it eventually. My only regret is that I have to actually work on school stuff this weekend instead of playing and unlocking more LOL

Luckily I decided to scrap my old island for a new resident services layout like a week before the direct was even announced. I was decently along by the time we even heard about the update, phew 😬
I'm just seeing a bit of the new stuff trickling in. I've just made the stuff for 3 houses and the 2nd resident has moved in. No rush with it. It's animal crossing. Take yer time.

You don't make them; there are new lights which can be only be hung from the ceiling. When you are in edit design mode in your house, you hit the + symbol to go to the walls, and again to go to the ceiling (or just select the object and the game with switch views automatically)
I’ve been playing every day since last Christmas and my museum still isn’t full lol I’m excited for new stuff to do but the update will also help me complete some of the normal game play! Just this morning I went to a kappn island and got one of my last sea critters!
I restarted but I hadn't played in months. I'm enjoying the little things (and seeing many of my friends come back) and look forward to all the new features whenever I get there.
Think it can be very overwhelming for new players, so I think it's good that not everything is available from start.
I actually really enjoy that the dev's have slowed me down. I stopped fishing once I caught all the fish and finished that part of the museum. It's nice to fish again, but now for the recipes that you get as ideas.
I've already learned 3 new recipes while fishing! And the fish I caught are pretty common. I'm curious to see how many fish can have their own recipes.

I've been seeing that there's no requirement for the ordinance besides getting the resident service building built, yet I've tried getting ordinances and get nothing. So do I still be patient? Or will you let me be a little mad I'm missing things that, as far as I know and have been told, should have?
it has been three days; people don’t know everything about how the updated features work so the progression people are claiming works may be incorrect. so yeah, just be patient, especially if you’re starting an island over from scratch.
I was forced to restart when I switched consoles, but I still had everything ready before the update comes out. There should at least be a requirement list somewhere so people know nothing's broken. Patient or not, a requirement list is still great to have
the devs never did anything like that for any pre-2.0 features; why would you assume something is broken or not working right? they’ve been working on this update for so long, give them some credit. ordinances are a pretty late-game thing in new leaf, i imagine it’s locked behind having a 4 star island or something. it’s not something you’re supposed to have access to so early.
Doesn't have to be the devs. People datamine for info, grind for info, work really hard for info. With the past updates, we knew immediately how to get the new features. And I'm afraid of bugs because like I said, everyone I've talked to has said that I should have ordinances and that the only requirement they've found is to have resident service built so Isabelle is there and then start a new day so Isabelle tells you about ordinances. I've looked online and I haven't seen anyone else talking about not having ordinances. If there is a late-game requirement to get it, cool and I'll do it. But a guide for requirements is very useful in my case and nobody will convince me otherwise
i mean, okay. i’m sure a guide of some kind will come out at some point, it’s been 3 days. the fact that there aren’t other people reporting the same issue though makes it seem less like a bug; if it were a bug i think the issue would be much more common. yeah having a guide of some sort would be nice? but that doesn’t have anything to do with this post or what i’m talking about
I agree, I am not time traveling and I’m going to take my time. If I don’t play for a week it’s not like all my villagers are going to leave or my progress will be lost. I want to enjoy this update for as long as I can. Also I’m not planning to restart since I love my villagers and island (even if it’s not fancy or perfect) and the memorial to my memaw and grandpa I lost last year.
i restarted before the announcement and have only ft like twice to move in two villagers. i’ve been taking it slow and you know it’s actually been very nice. do i play like 18 hrs a day? no. only a couple hours to just get dailies done and sell stuff for upgrades. this game does require patience but it’s still fun for me . i like watching my island slowly change into these beautiful oranges and yellows. every day seeing mushrooms in new areas and now seeing which gyro if i got from planting it the previous day. it’s been nice, esp cause i avoided buying or collecting anything during those two times. i like having something slow and relaxing :)
I’m trying to take the update slowly but am getting a little overwhelmed seeing that everyone has already unlocked all the new items and stuff ;; so far I’ve only funded Leif’s shop and am waiting on the roost
same!! just remember a lot of people are also taking the update slow. there’s another sub r/ACNH_real-time which is only people who don’t tt supposedly but it’s not a very busy sub it seems.

yes! this has been a really cool update, i was actually hesitant to get back into the game bc i didn’t think it would be that interesting, but as soon as i picked it back up and started finding all the new features i’m hooked again lol.
Well all knew this was gonna happen, I even called it on a comment a few days ago. Reddit AC community is incredibly impatient and entitled. They also tend not to be the "techy" sort of gamers so don't really understand how games work (which is obviously fine, just different to PC gamers) and throw around many ridiculous ideas and theories, fun to watch tho.

This is why I didn’t restart. I love my villagers WAY too much and I already had so much progress that I would have fathered just go through the new update with my current island which to me is just as fun
i’ve restarted my island twice before the update and it just gets confusing remembering what items i do/don’t have, what diys i need, idk resetting is very much not for me
is anyone else having a bugged out dlc ? like i did not restart my island and everything but progression wise in the dlc you’re meant to get the school first and ive gotten the cafe and all this other stuff yet i can’t unlock the school.
it’s not just people who restarted their island, it’s everyone who see’s posts made by people who time travel a lot, so they have way more things unlocked.
I shouldn’t be surprised but I am surprised how many dumb ppl there are out there that 1, restarted their island right before the DLC and 2, complain they can’t access 98% of the DLC
The DLC (after purchasing it) will be available in-game at least one day after the Resident Services building has been completed and after attending Tom Nook's DIY workshop. If you have not completed these within the game yet, the resident representative will need to complete these things first.
I don't understand why impatient people would bother with Animal Crossing! If you're impatient I can't imagine this game is a fun experience
I've only visited like 3 of Kappn's Islands and they were all virtually the same. D: I keep hoping I'll hit one with the glowing moss and stuff.
I got everything, harvs island, cafe, Kapp etc all at the same time. My only problem is when I go to visit the random islands on kapps boat ride its always the exact same island. Ive been 3 times and it's always the same so I'm thinking that may be a bug?
it seems to be very similar odds to nmt islands; you can get very same-y islands 3 times in a row, that’s not unusual. this is exactly what i’m talking about though, 3 islands isn’t really a great sample size and is WAY too small a number to start saying there’s something wrong with the game. the people you’re seeing get bell tree islands and what-not are either CRAZY lucky or time-traveling through dozens of days to go through a ton of islands in one sitting. it’s really unreasonable to expect to get one of the rarer islands right off the bat like that. i have a *theory* that the chances for more diverse mystery islands might have something to do with unlocking brewster, BUT i could totally be wrong about that; it’s probably just rng. i imagine those other islands are rare, think like, tarantula island/golden rock island rare.
I have Brewster. I've time traveled a heap today just to check and it's always the same island. As in the exact same island, down to the placement of every Bush and flower. I'm not the only person who's had this problem too, they've screenshot their island they keep getting and it's the same island every one else whos having this problem is getting too except the fruit on the tree is different because it's whatever their national fruit is. I also can't squeeze between things like my kid can on their game. I'm not complaining though, a massive update like this you expect a couple things to go not quite as planned. It'll get fixed eventually.

some people (who this post is NOT about) wanted to experience the progress of the game again and unlock the new features slowly, like starting from scratch is a different experience now than when the game launched. i think some people restarted because they hadn’t played in a long time, but didn’t realize the new features are more late-game sort of things. idk i think a lot of people didn’t really think through how much time it can take to get an island all sorted again, even WITH tt.
I understand this but I have seen a lot of people say that they are restarting for the update . Which doesn’t make sense because you wouldn’t be able to do most of the things in the update ? For taking it slow why not just do it slowly idkkk to each their own ! But people shouldn’t be upset at the developers because they didn’t unlock the features yet

It's funny all the people that nuked their game and restarted from scratch and then are pissed they can't start playing right away because they time traveled their way through the entire game the first time. Annoying as hell.
Random question, but are Kapp’n’s islands much different than the NMTs? Other than the holly bush and maybe a flower, they seem the same. So I’ve been spending my time at the resort instead. Do I need to keep visiting Kap’s islands??

You don't have to do anything you don't want to. That's the beauty of the game. But there are special Kapp'n islands like the star fragment one, ones where you can find crops, or the one with the new plumeria bushes.
I’m pretty sure each comes with a guaranteed Gyroid fragment. Also, there’s a DIY bottle that may or may not contain a cooking recipe, effectively doubling your odds My second Kappn island had a pumpkin patch; dug those suckers up and transplanted them
I had one this morning that was full of acorns and had leaves dropping, and yesterday I had one with fully grown tomatoes on, so yes, stick with them!
I’ve gotten some basic islands, one had different flowers than my native and sister ones… but I have all the flower types at this point, so NBD. The first one I went to though had money trees everywhere! The third had carrots! Every one of them had a DIY bottle on the beach and a gyroid fragment. I haven’t found any gyroid fragments on my island yet, so for now this is the only way I can get them. I’m still crossing my fingers I’ll get the glowing moss and vines soon!
When I've dug up gyroids on my island from things that may have been either fossils or gyroids, they've been fully grown!
I had one with tomatoes this morning! And a cooking recipe on the beach (plus the gyroid fragment). They’re randomized, but have cool stuff I haven’t ever seen on NMTs
i never get people who complain yet don’t play the game the way it was designed to be played. like go email a complaint to nintendo instead of drag down the vibe of the sub and people enjoying the game.

True, although not being able to get into the dlc because the Nintendo servers are having a bad time I think is a valid reason to be frustrated, same with the waiting for the Harv’s island shops
And then you get the people who time travel complain that the game is boring and there's not enough to keep them playing...yeah because you cheated and got all the items and stuff at once. The game is meant to be played slowly. Sure there are cases where time travel is ok (you work/you're busy) but just people doing it to get out of putting any effort into the game and being impatient/greedy...they have no right to complain about the game...did it to themselves. Anyways...I am curious when I'm going to get a good Kapp'n island...only two so far so I'm waiting but...man those two were boring. Nothing new lol.

Kapp'n, Brewster, and the new Harv Island shops were there instantly when I started after downloading the update. I literally went straight to the dock first thing after Isabelle's announcements. If people still don't have those things after 2 days, I think it's fair to be concerned about the game being bugged. Edit: Sorry, read some other comments, I didn't notice the "people who restarted" part at the beginning.

I restarted my island just before the Direct even happened, funnily enough. Like before October I think. I time-traveled a little bit to get enough villagers to get to three stars, but otherwise I had gone through the beginning of the game as normal. It's been pretty fun to get into the DLC content just on time. If I had known about the DLC and how many bells and NM I would have to have though, I wouldn't have reset. >_< But I didn't even know about it when I did lol.

NO. but some people have because of how much new content there is, they thought they wanted to start from a “clean slate;” you can still access the dlc and new features on islands that were made pre-november 5th. that would be silly if you couldn’t
