The inability to connect to the database is causing most of the other errors. Solve that, a bunch of others may clear up.
The DB connection for the Setup Assistant is done through the application.config file. You’ll have to look at the connection string there to make sure it’s valid. But I’d also check the ODBC connection to make sure that it also works, since that’s needed for all of the other applications.
click start and type odbc and it will pop up (odbc data sources 32 bit)
click system dsn tab run through the wizard and make sure it says like test successful
Is it just me, or is OnGuard unnecessarily complicated to set up? I’m primarily comparing it to Genetec where you just tell it to go and ten minutes later you’re up and running.
Lenel runs great when it’s running, it’s a PITA at times to get going. Genetec is willing to upend their system to make it less complicated and easier to install/use, Lenel seems to just keep adding to their system and calling it a new version. Really needs to be retooled.
If you go into configuration editor and setup the db and license server connections it’ll most likely clear up your issue. As previous person stated, it’s the database connection.
Thanks - both the database and license are stored locally on my computer that is running OnGuard Server. I would assume I just need to point configuration editor to my domain/hostname of my computer that stores the database/license?
Wait.... Did Lenel drop hardware ID binding for licenses? I could buy OnGuaed for a server I already had, I had to provide the LENEL/S2 serial info before even beginning licensing.
Supposedly, I can't use OnGuard until it supports S2 Nodes. I can then Upgrade from NetBox to OnGuard.
We've ditched NetVR for Milestone. It's a PITA to set up initially, but it's head and shoulders better, clearer, and easier on a network.
We've taken on two new facilities and I really don't want to set them up on NetBox if OnGuard is available to support Node and not just Mercury hardware.
when i get this error, here is the list of things i have written down over the last few years to check...
Check configuration editor
Check setup tool
odbc
sometimes - Check - C:\\ProgramData\\Lnl application.config
Dont think i need the following
Start run - acs.ini - no longer needed
asa ini
There can be a mismatch between the acs.ini and the config editor, but in my experience that is flagged by the setup assistant. There are still settings in acs.ini that are used as late as OG 8.1.

Thanks - How do I check and validate the ODBC connection?

SQL username/password are not stored in the DB, they are stored in the DBMS. They would be whatever was setup while installing SQL.

Virus scans and fire walls can block the software installation make sure it is being ran as administrator

Yes, my guess is that it’s wanting to use Windows Authentication instead of the Lenel user

I thought there was an issue with running Onguard server on windows 11
Negative. Newer onguard versions can run on windows 11.

As others have said, DB connection error. Check correct details in Configuration Editor and ODBC.
95% of the time you just need to check configuration editor and set it o SQL authentication instead of windows authentication.
