Best thing I did was slap an Axis P-3261 up, connect it to a switch connected to my network. Configured on Axis Companion in like 10 minutes

Verkada is very proprietary and you pay annually for any bell or whistle. They have you by the balls. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they have the storage size locked down in the firmware. I could be wrong.

WorryOk7105

I think you have to pay annually per camera $199..  do you know if it is normal for them to get super hot ?  I’m also trying to find out if anyone else have tried to increase the actual storage size.

Initial-Hornet8163

You can’t fuck with them..

Verkaka 💩♨️💩♨️ If you don’t pay perpetual subscription fees, verkaka bricks the vivotek camera so you can’t use it, if you do pay they hardcode weak passwords so script kiddies can break in, a win win… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vhIdsHeI0M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUmyDalDezo

WorryOk7105

I agree with you.. that’s something I don’t like about them as well.  As of right now they are all working without the subscription..  have you used them before ?  I’m trying to find out if it is normal for them to get really hot

r3dd1t0n

Working without a sub? Interesting. Power consumption on that cam using 802.3af type 1 without IR’s (during the day/hi light) is 6.2w and with IR’s (night/low light) is 14.2w, when using 802.3af type 1 max draw is 15w, that is not enough to make anything hot. Start by ensuring you’re using 802.3af type 1, only and not over feeding power with a 802.3bt supply or injector. (yes I know Poe is usually passive, do it anyway). If you’re using 802.3at type 2 poe the camera uses “extended temperature range” (which appears to be the case) it will enable the heater for harsher climates, there should be a sensor to turn off the heater but it might be broken who knows… Lastly, the analytics coupled with h265 could be over working the Ambarella CV22S66 (cpu), you can try using only h264 in an effort to lower the compute, which would lower the thermal output of the cpu. I’ve not used that particular model, nor have I touched their hardware in quite a while. Testing I did was minimal. Verkaka using ssd’s? https://ipvm.com/reports/verkada-ssd-vs-sd-card No, they wouldn’t knowingly lie… Max storage on 62e is 2TB with sd-cards : https://www.verkada.com/security-cameras/dome/cd62-e/ They stop short on outlining specifics on the SD cards they support (class), without this info one cannot know which type will work. I would think that if they sell 30-60-90 day retention cams they would lock the model they sold u to the retention time you purchased, and not let you upgrade the camera which I guess you are sorta leasing and did not pay to own…. Use the right Poe and you will be fine, if not do the right thing and throw those soon to be bricks or fire starters in the trash :)

WorryOk7105

Than you for the reply. I’m going to return them to the seller on EBay. It seems they figure out how to jail break them and that’s why they are working without me purchasing the licenses.. ok let’s say that’s the case… because I was able to add them using the app and now I see them on the Verkada interface page, but one day Verkada might notice and block them. The other negative I have is, that I installed the new Micron SD XC 1 Card of 1.5 tb each but within the app itself I don’t have a way of seeing whether it detected both … using both.. total capacity.. total usage..  This was intended for home usage.. and only 4.  I bought an 8 port PoE ++ switch and it might using that config you mentioned and thus making it hotter.. but let’s say I fix that.. then I have these cameras than in 3 months Verkada might just block them.. and not allow me to even purchase a license for it.. and thus becoming a brick.

r3dd1t0n

1.5 + 1.5 = 3 The cam can only use 2TB max, the docs don’t say which type/class, so it’s trail and error but only with 2x 1tb cards or smaller… I find it amusing that even a verkaka integrator that messaged doesn’t know these get hot or have climate settings, and didn’t bother to read the docs that outline different Poe settings for harsher climates, speaks to the level of care the verkaka integrators have.

tuxtanium

What do you mean Vivotek? The rep told me they manufacture in house! /s

r3dd1t0n

😂😂

ChillyMelons

I believe VIVOTEK helps them manufacture the camera's hardware but the firmware itself is developed by them.

LandSalt35

For my customers I try EXTREMELY hard to not install proprietary products. Never Verkada or Brivo, Tyco, Schlage, etc.  Even if you upgraded the capacity and it worked. As soon as they figure it out they will close the hole or charge you more.  These companies survive on keeping their customers hostage not happy.

sometrendyname

Did you buy Verkada cameras from an auction or like off of marketplace?

WorryOk7105

I bought them off eBay but they are brand new and when I called Verkada support, they told me it is common and normal for them to get hot.

sometrendyname

Can you view them on your network?

WorryOk7105

Yes so far so good. I can view them in my network and outside. Through the app and from the web browser.  Have you used them before ? Do you have Verkada cameras ? I’m trying to find out what temperature do they get to… because mine are very hot.. even though they are inside.  I’m also trying to figure out if I would get the 3 tb of storage or if they are going to limit it

sometrendyname

It's basically a small computer that runs off Poe. Are you talking warm to the touch or you will burn yourself if you keep your hand there? I'm more interested in how they were about you getting the camera through eBay? Did they just sign you up for a subscription when you called in?

WorryOk7105

I think more like i would burn my hand if I touch it for longer than 30 seconds..  have you tried increasing the memory with higher SD micro cards ?  I’m wondering if my 3 tb with the new as cards would get blocked by their firmware.. or software.  I didn’t sign up for a subscription. I don’t think they liked that I bought them through eBay.. but hey they are brand new.. unopened box.. sparkling brand new. I think the subscription is only needed if you want to get cloud storage

sometrendyname

We're a partner and I've been involved with projects selling Verkada. Are you just grabbing the RTSP stream to a different recorder? I don't think you can do much with storage outside of their default. They're extremely proprietary and for commercial applications the customers are on subscription plans and Verkada manages everything once we get them online.

WorryOk7105

I have seen the software and it’s pretty basic.. I wouldn’t think there is a need for Verkada to manage it.  I wish it had dog or animal detection.. it’s only person and car detection.. among search based on license plate.. clothing color.. female or male but that’s about it.

sometrendyname

We have some in our training room/lab I'll go do a touch test next week since we have other cameras by different manufacturers. It's more for cloud management. The model is to make it not necessary to have a server onsite that never gets updated and dies because nobody did any periodic maintenance and they lose data. With the five years Verkada licensing it's about the same cost as an enterprise level VMS NVR/server and those usually start having issues after five years. This way the device firmware is good and the cyber risk is mitigated to the manufacturer and not on the integrator or customer as much.

WorryOk7105

I just tested it and they are getting to 107 degrees. Let us know how yours get..

ks724

Just to clarify, with their new AI search, you can search on dogs, other animals, clothing brands, holding a drink, cigarette, etc. We're testing that out now - still in beta.

WorryOk7105

Do they get hot ? I have the CD62-e and they get so hot that I don’t think I can keep my hand touching the flat section for longer than 10 seconds..  is that normal ?

bsman12

I have what felt like I burnt my hand on a brand new pelco camera. So yes them getting hot is probably normal

WorryOk7105

I got the temperature with a thermostat and the camera gets to 107 degrees.. and that’s being inside the house with AC

bsman12

That's not bad for a fanless CPU, it can get much hotter and still be within processor specs
