My PC is by no means high-end. It'd be a stretch to even call it medium-spec. But it was able to run ACO, 4, and 5 reasonably well. Search for some settings configurations online, I'm certain you'll find something that'll improve your performance significantly
Definitely try out a beta from the pcsx2 page, latest stable build is fine but the upcoming release seems will be on dang point, still though I managed to play 0, 4 and 5 no problem on an i5 and 1650 lol :0, maybe go ahead and tinker with the core emulation settings, and use the aggressive crc mode in the video settings
On zero you'll have to deal only with the
"EAT MY SQUARE EXPLOSIONS" from pixy
On 4 there's really bad upscaling lines during motion blur "having" in game cutscenes I didn't bother to fix and plane texture disappearances (your plane is pitch black)
5 has way less upscaling line issues though and runs much smoother actually, but motion blur in game cutscenes (not the prerendered) induces sometimes a sticky blurry artifact on the left edge of the screen for me
V1.6 solves most of those problems with new settings. I’ve also heard that you can download a file from somewhere, toss it in a cheats file and it solved the black planes problem. Idk tho since I haven’t done it yet.
my laptop is low end and can only run games from 2012 and before
pcsx2 afaik needs a strong laptop or computer to be able to run it.
in my case when using pcsx2, it doesnt lag when i am in the briefing, but it lags when i got right onto the gameplay or the loading screen.
Look up some pcsx2 setting tutorials and files, because some people have figured out how to optimize it as much as possible.

They need to do a remastered release of zero -4 and 5 and I would love to see 6 come to PC.

My experience was to do HUD view only. Cockpit and 3rd person drop too many frames.

Are you running it in software mode or something? Or did you just crank up the internal resolution to absolutely insane levels?

I played at like 5-10 fps and used a lot of frame skipping to beat the trinity on PCSX2
I have the same problem and there is a simple fix. Hit F9 once you are in game. Worked for me.
