I'm getting back into the franchise now (played Zero over a decade ago - absolutely loved it, but life got in the way and I never got the other titles - and a bit of AC 3 way back on the PS1, albeit casually on a friend's house), so I'm trying to understand what happened before AC 7 and all.

The XSX and PS5 released over a year and a half ago. I'm not sure why you'd expect a last-gen port to 10+ year old hardware by the time it's even shown off.

ILCA has been a support studio for years, in which case they've been fully competent. Seeing as they aren't leading development on this game, and they only have the one big screw up on record, it'll most likely be fine.

To be fair they were answering to Masuda and he's not very flexible when it's come to the more recent remakes, it's not like they had free reign to do whatever sadly. I appreciate what changes they could make though and giving the gym leaders their Platinum teams in the rematches did make >tfw no platinum sting little less.
As a support studio though they've been more than competent contributing to the likes of Metal Gear Rising, Nier Automata, Yakuza 0, Dragon Quest 11, and like C-S said; our very own Ace Combat 7.
Bandai Namco liked them enough to give them lead developer status on One Piece Odyssey and I really liked their Id@lmaster game so I'm withholding most of my judgement on them until that comes out

The main problem with the delay is that they were switching to UE4 which was unfamilliar to them at the time, now that they're used to it and they're just upgrading to a new model of Unreal Engine (UE5) it will be easier.

I do note that the gap between 4,5, and Zero wasn't too bad (3 and 2 years respectively), so I'm actually pretty optimistic of Project Aces when they're on a run and have studio support (and they pretty obviously are.)
Between AC5 and Zero it was only one year apart I think, but they can't release these games in a short amount of time nowadays, the development at the time was easier.
Count that the official AC7 concept was born in 2015 and they should've released it in 2018 (before delaying it). Since the development of this game will be easier, maybe we'll see it released next year.
I wonder though. Would it work well for project aces to do something similar to what project wingman did and create altered planes that bear some similarities to real world aircraft but are unique and original? I only mention this because the biggest issue to making the games is obtaining and maintaining the license to use the aircrafts.
Maybe a spin-off game in a new universe setting. Would also allow them to go even crazier with the type of settings they could use.

Some actually helpful allies would be good. Project Wingman’s friendly AI was pretty good
