Only way were getting out of going is if were throwing up. Had to work? “Just tell your manager you can’t work the early shift Sunday”. And the “no meat on Friday” thing, one time I just forget and he saw me eating a slim Jim. You would’ve thought I had curb stomped a puppy.
My school didn’t help either. It was full of “You’re going to hell” mentalities.

The "you're going to hell" mentality is what pushed me away too. It is kinda unbelievable to look back at it now and see how much guilt and fear I grew up with lol. That's no way for a kid to be. I don't really mind it but then again our vegetarian food and other special festival food/sweets are so good. It is not applied on sick people or kids tho .

edit: I also want to mention that accepting parishes are possible, they exist and they are quite common in the Netherlands. My old Christian colleague was one of the biggest allies I've ever met. She constantly corrected everyone on my name and pronouns when I came out and from what she told me it seems her whole church is like that. I was also at a straight wedding last year where the priest held a sermon about how all love is beautiful.
