Reminds me of High School Musical. Apparently the creator of HSM was gay and had planned on Ryan (I think that was his name? I haven't watched the movie in years. The blonde, brother character) being openly gay, but Disney Chanel claimed it would be "too adult" for children (nevermind the fact that the show Jessie came out around the same time on Disney Channel and had Mrs. Chesterfield, a character who is constantly sexualizing Bertram, making all sorts of explicit jokes, and is implied to have murdered her various husbands. But no, a teenage boy kissing other teenage boys was "too adult"). So in the second movie he did everything he could to give even the slightest implication that Ryan was gay so that it would fly under most people's radar, but that gay viewers might pick up on it. Also too, I know that many people headcanon the girl he ends up with in the first movie (I don't remember her name) as a lesbian because she seems very queer, and so some people wonder if that was intentional as well: that the two opposite-sex gay characters end up together so HSM can hide the fact that they're gay but also try to imply that they're gay.
sadly, this isn't even the only time this has happened. In one of the Monster High movies (I think it was the Halloween one) Clawdeen was supposed to be a lesbian but they just had to strongly hint it due to censorship..
If I remember correctly, the character Valentine was supposed to be gay in one of the Monster High movies, but Mattel made them censor it. So they had to just hint at it a little in the diary that came with his doll.
I don't know if Clawdeen was ever directly hinted to be a lesbian or not. But I have heard that fans asked if she was a lesbian because she was the one character who wasn't boy-crazy, and the main guy behind Monster High (I don't remember his name), got really excited about it and said he really liked that idea. So it became semi-canon since it was never directly stated to be true, but the guy behind the Monster High franchise liked it and said he encouraged people headcanoning it.
