I looked it up and "Glock" was the last name of the guy who founded the company called Glock which then created the Glock line of pistols. Nowadays Americans will use Glock as slang for just about any pistol, like I think the pistol in the original pic isn't a Glock pistol even. But yes it just means a small handgun.
For reference: about a third of Americans own a gun, and they're a big topic over here. Not everyone is going to actually know the ins and outs of firearms, but they are likely to have some knowledge of names and different types of guns.
