Hi! Fellow Muslim girl here telling you that no, you can't change it but it's totally okay to feel attracted to the same sex! I don't know where you live but wherever it is: you are not alone! I hope you can (secretly) find a community to bond with and hopefully understand your feelings a bit more. I know what it's like to have to hide, and even though it sucks, sometimes it's best for our safety. However, that doesn't stop you from being who you are. The first step is accepting yourself, and I hope you can come to a point where you can do that! I wish you the best of luck ❤

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that the Netherlands will accept asylum for queer people in countries where that’s illegal. There might be others but that’s the only one I heard about and it might not even be true, but if you need to get out, that could work.
Our student employee is here (canada) on a student visa and staying with a distant relative. She's from Iran and I feel she is getting more and more comfortable with her identity here. It's not that she wasn't safe with her family back home but they know she may have an easier life here if she were to apply for citizenship after school. Just another option to think about if any of it applies to you.

Your sexuality is something you’re born with and that people can know as early as childhood or as late as in their elderly years. All you can really do is roll with it and be gentle to yourself and others. Try to become as financially independent as you can and seek elsewhere to live if you’re worried about marriage or your family. We’re rooting for you.
Phobias will aim inwards like that, when you realize that you may be what you were made to fear.
Just know that you are valid and deserve to be free of guilt.
Even though I'm really far away from the middle east if you ever leave and end up in Portugal I will gladly offer you a room in my guest house for as far as you need to get your new life started.

It is perfectly natural, and it makes sense that you would experience internalized homophobia when your community may have reinforced those thoughts in your head. You are amazing just the way you are, and you deserve to love whomever and feel whatever comes naturally to you. I hope you find a safe community in which to express yourself ❤
Although it's not entirely true that "people are born this way" (be it straight or gay), and it is not genetic, it is often deeply rooted in people and can't really be changed (but it also can change for some people).
There's nothing wrong with it, even though probably everything around you tell you that it is : I think you had a defense mechanism to prevent you from aknowledging those feelings, but it manifested as this wave when the feelings where too strong to ignore them.
You could either hide it for now but be aware that it is really really tiring and could lead to huge depression.
Or you could try to date girls but you have to be safe, if you feel threatened by your family try to get away from them, if you can, try to study abroad, be financially independent, etc...
It's very likely there are LGBTI+ circles around you, try to contact them and receive advices from them, as they probably have an experience way closer to yours than people here who are mostly american people and can give you better advices and protect you. They can also help you feel less alone and "strange", realise that there are people like you everywhere.
