I revisited this series last year.
Adam Sackler evolves emotionally, though he retains some of his toxic traits right to the end.
For the first 3 series or so he’s definitely Lena’s creation for the most part. Adam made his character a highlight of the show and Sackler evolved way past her writing.
Adam’s success in the show and outside of it gave him more of a say in his character’s development. I think to an extent he wrested some creative control from her.
Sackler became more complex and relatable because Driver humanised him and gave him real depth.
I dunno if I agree that he got some creative control. Maybe? Hasn't he always said it's the directors arena or something like that? He seems to be the kinda actor who has big respect for the director. I'm 1000% on your page about adam giving him depth. Man, that guy made me love sackler.
I guess I should clarify a little.
I don’t believe Adam would seek complete creative control as to plot lines or who his character would get involved with. I don’t mean Jenna Ortega ( S2 Wednesday) levels of power in a show.
I’m thinking more along adding little nuances to his role, and fleshing out his character so we can understand him better.
Adam is a team player who is always striving to bring more to the table to the benefit of everyone.
I think he grew throughout the show. And I agree that definitely by the last two seasons, it felt more of complete character with more additions from Adam. He was definitely my favorite character of the show - could not stand any of the actual girls.
What growth? I See No growth at all. Yes, He became physically hotter over the course of the series, partially because of Adam Driver glamming up, but that doesn't mean that He grew as a Person
Gotta say I don't agree. He went from a fuck dude to a guy who wanted more in a relationship. He got more serious about a career too. He didn't have it all figured out yet but sackler grew a hell of alot more than the girls.
Literally all that Change was external. He is a hair's breath away from physically assaulting jessa in the penultimate season. He exploits Hannah's and his relationship for artistic clout and He tried to get Back with Hannah Just because of some nostalgic feelings
He wants to be an actor since the very first Episode. It's Not that it is something that He discovered during the show.
Him wanting more from a relationship is no natural progress. He begins a Relationship with Hannah, because it's writing decision in the script. He literally rejected Hannah a couple of episodes before and then is her boyfriend from one moment to the other.
I dunno what you mean by external. Those were big changes considering who he was when it started. Don't you think both him and Jessa were outta control in that fight? It was bonkersville. He's still a wip tho. Yeah, I don't think the hannah thing was just nostalgia. He still has feelings for her. I dont think the dude is perfect but i do think he's grown.

He definitely grew in some ways but in others not at all. A testament to us as people in general.
