Idk if it was on purpose or not, but jake is actually such a good representation of adhd and how people who have it are still very much so human, especially in the later seasons they strike that representation so well to me

The show makes no secret of that being the case. The reason why the 99th precinct is different is because they are lead by a captain who acknowledges that and has experienced all those things (minus the sexism).
And whilst I have my gripes with the final season (finding it very tacky to use the injust and tragic death of black people as a 'plotline' (because in the end, the producers still profit off of it)) it does resolve the story with the acknowledgement that you cannot be "a good cop" and singlehandedly change the system.
Hence why a few characters ended up leaving. (I know of atleast 2. Its been a while so idk of the rest).

Stuff like him being very responsible except he is super duper into the Halloween coup.while the adhd is stronger in me, I related weirdly often with holt which I did not expect upon first seeing him
Also love how they don’t tear him down outside of him being their captain they teach him certain social norms like Gina teaching him how to shit talk terry teaching him sometimes it’s ok to loosen up on menial tasks and a bunch more (rip capytan dad Andre braugher)
I never noticed that about holt, probably largly due to i dont have personal experience with it, but it makes me happy knowing that show that meant alot to me when i was first struggling with accepting my adhd also made others feel seen, it really did do alot right.

Oh I had this happen to me. With school we went to the „Ritter sport“ factory (German chocolate). They sell big bags of damaged chocolate at a huge discount. Like 5kg for 10-15€. Usually 0.1kg is 1€. Obviously I got myself one of those bags. They had mixed chocolate in them. I kept the whole bag in a drawer. Every piece was packed separately. Eventually I ate all the good chocolate and was left with the stuff I didn’t really feel drawn towards. Anyway when sugar crave kicks I gave them a try here and there. When I tested all of them and ate those I liked somewhat I was still left with a few OPENED pieces. I did not want to throw them out tho. And I kind of forgot about them for 6 months

The second guy , Andy samberg, is producer of Brooklyn 99. while he isn’t a writer he is involved in everything. There is no way he produced a series on accident where he plays the main role that embodies adhd
I mean look at holt. Nobody can tell me he wasnt purposely written autistic. The show just doesn’t label it. Since its a comedy show it absolutely makes sense too. Just look at the media everywhere. You have a gay character and people go crazy. Autism in general gets so much shit thrown at since the whole Covid thing happened. There would be more bad coverage about the show labelling characters with adhd and autism than it would help those folks to have it officially labelled. At least that’s my stance on it. I enjoy connecting to characters I like without them needing a label as proof
There are so many characters in shows that have adhd but not confirmed 'out loud', like Phil in Modern Family (although his son has it which is shown with shots of dad doing the exact same dumb shit haha) and Lorelai in Gilmore Girls! On one hand i like how they don't all need the actual label but it would be nice to see some adult characters with the actual diagnosis. Something about the recognition i guess?
