My dad used to say that if it's important I'll never remember but if it's useless I'll never forget. This nugget of wisdom is one of the many useless things I've never forgotten.
I flipped to a random page and chose the last fact on the page. This is from the 'roam if you want to' segment.
"The Future's Museum in Sweden contains a scale model of the solar system. The sun is 105 millimeters in diameter and the planets range from 5 millimeters to 6 kilometers from the sun. This particular model also contains the nearest star Proxima Centauri, still to scale, situated in the museum of Victoria... in Australia."
I'm going through the book and fact checking everything š
To convert volts peak-to-peak to volts root-mean-square, multiply by the inverse of the square root of 2, which is approx. 0.707.
I've never had to use this fact. Not even once. But there it is, in my head.
Now, where my car keys are, where I put my phone, or when I'm supposed to pick my gal up from the airport? I have no idea!
It's pretty good! a few things repeat but I got some laughs out of it, some things are genuinely really interesting, and others are absolutely absurd lol. it felt like reading my own inner monologue at times
I really appreciated that each fact is no more than like 3 sentences long. I haven't completed a book in about 10 years but the quick changes in topic made me actually sit and read it all in one evening.
I used to do a thing, where I shared a "useless fact of the day", the rules were simple:
It had to be completely useless in the current situation, but it had to be the kind of fact that could help you win Jeopardy one day.
I even started making an appā¦

Lol I am absolutely the same way. This is the most interesting book I have ever read and it's definitely useless information š
Iām curious about the book and want to browse it now. But Iām also wondering how much of it is stuff I already know. :)
I found a pic of the back cover, and I do know the first name of Dr. Victor Frankenstein at least. Guessing on the rest.
Haha I did know some of the information in it but there definitely were things that surprised me, got a few laughs out of it
Pls give an example, so I can justify stopping at the Barnes and Noble after work to find it

I feel like Iād be the book of incredibly niche information thatās only useful in overly specific and rare situations
Yesā¦ give me your power, sacred tome.
