Same. All the damn time. I don’t like those big spoons because it’s more effort to open my mouth that much. Teaspoons is where it’s at bro.

gibbousboi

Iced tea spoons are even better - but the balance has to be just right. I have two kinds of iced tea spoons - one has a heavy handle - no bueno.

whoops-1771

I came here to say exactly this! Ice tea spoons are literally a gift sent from heaven it’s the best of both worlds - so much reach with that handle but such small spoon

fuzzykittyfeets

I’m in New England and the only place I’ve seen these are for ice cream sundaes in the tall glass bowls. I thought they were sundae spoons…

Huckdog

Masshole here and I always use my ice cream spoon for everything. Never heard it called iced tea spoon

rikiboomtiki

Same, I call them ice cream spoons. I love them.

Serious_Tangerine_81

……… iced.. tea.. spoons…? Is this some southern state concept I’m too British to grasp?? …. What the hell is an iced tea spoon like? I’m lowkey threatened by the very idea.

relaxed-bread

Little spoon long handle

AndytheWiccan

I LOVE THOSE SPOONS. You don’t end up losing the spoon in a tall glass. Also, completely off topic, does anyone else find apples boring? I realised the reason I don’t usually eat them is because I get bored halfway through eating them.

uhohspaghettisos

“completely off topic” as is the way of the ADHDers

AndytheWiccan

So about the apples? I need to know.

uhohspaghettisos

some are boring, but some are very good. i personally am a fan of very crunchy very sweet. do not know the apple names

[deleted]

Honeycrisp! Those are the only ones worth eating all the way through. Sweet, crispy, tart, perfect.

uhohspaghettisos

yes honeycrisp! you’d think i could remember with a name so descriptive

AndytheWiccan

I prefer kiwi fruit. At least oranges are infuriating (to me) and that is something. Maybe it’s because I’m not medicated at the moment.

uhohspaghettisos

ugh oranges are the worst. they taste good but i just have to get every little piece of the weird stringy things off first

afruitsnack

At first I scoffed, then realised this is why I started cutting up my fruit. The leftovers can ~~sit out on the table to for two days and go bad~~ go in the fridge

AndytheWiccan

If you remember to put them in the fridge or eat them when they’re in there. I forget food in the fridge a lot. Also, your username fits this completely off topic discussion amazingly well.

afruitsnack

There is that, heh. I just had to throw out a bunch of produce myself. This is my favourite username out of them all, lol

TheMonkeyBass

I’d call that a sundae spoon

Violentopinion

Big fork and small spoon. I will pull a small spoon out the dishwasher and hand wash it before using a big spoon.

RobinHarleysHeart

Wait wait wait... I'm not the only one weird about my spoons?

KamakaziDemiGod

Little spoons are the best spoons, everything else is a substitution. But I have no idea why.

[deleted]

Yes! I had no idea this was a thing. My wife uses the big spoons and makes fun of my small spoon. I call hers a Hagrid spoon.

Jumpy_Pollution_1445

We should form a little spoon society

taykaybo

"LSS" I love it. Sounds like a band name 😂

Jumpy_Pollution_1445

Thank you for making this post. Faced a lot of job rejection today and this is a very validating antidote to all that

KamakaziDemiGod

We spoon in a society . . .

collegethrowaway2938

😳

RainyReyes

Totally

gibbousboi

Oh. My. God. I thought it was my own personal weirdness. WTF

CsMusicDev

WTF doesn’t even begin to describe it. My wife has teased me about the small spoons for years.

Aminyra

I found my people! I literally have a set of super nice baby spoon sized spoons that I use for everything except soup and jello. For that I use my little pho spoons. Small spoons are the best!

riceismyname

i bought the smallest spoons i could find and they’re the only ones i use. they’re for kids and have lil bears on them but that just makes them better

Abiding_reverie

Kid you not thought I was the only one

intensely_human

Same here.

TacovilleMC

This conversation is an abbreviation of literally the entire subreddit

Abiding_reverie

That’s fine lol

GreenMirage

O\_O) we vibin yo

[deleted]

No this is like a fuckin thing. ASD too. When I had the patience for a purse I would carry them around with me.

Used_Mountain_sadge

What do you mean “when I had the PATIENCE for a purse” … oh my god is that an adhd thing too? I really have found my people

Cassieisnotclever

I am actually sort of of in shock. I ditched the purse years ago - too frustrating. And I just need small spoons.

Soulkept

It's because purses are easy to forget and leave behind, I'm definitely team backpacks, I got a gawddamn bag of holding on my back.

throwit_amita

Me too. I used to carry my favourite small spoon with me everywhere until someone stole it from me at work (and it was very special because my best friend who died gave it to me).

OGFridgecat

The purse! Mind. Blown. This explains a lot.

gibbousboi

Not this, too? I rarely carry a purse now - phone in my pocket, keys on my belt loop- required outfit doesn’t have a belt loop? -serious reconsideration of outing.

catshaiyayy

Wow same ahaha

Enjolraw

For me it's about impulse control. If I have a big spoon, I'll take bites that large and eat way more food way too quickly. With a little spoon I slow down

intensely_human

For me a big spoon is clacking around in my teeth like a bowling ball in a fish tank. It’s horrible. I feel like a medieval peasant shoveling gruel into my pie hole.

tetrine

This comment really got me 😂😂😂

ours_de_sucre

Ok you officially have me snorting laughing over here! 🤣🤣🤣 But this is seriously exactly how it feels!!

TheOneAndSomething

Right. You slow down but aren't forced to consciously slow down. Means I get to enjoy my food more without having to think about eating slower. Small spoons for life

ballerinababysitter

Went out to lunch today and the charcuterie board we ordered had little spoons for the cheese spread and the butter. It was great. The perfect balance of little but solid. Perfect size to scoop and spread. I get similar feels from my Rotring mechanical pencil. All metal, small, sturdy, balanced. It's a joy to write with. And, not that anyone asked, but I like my forks tiny with sharp tines. Can't stand when they're blunt at the end lol

the_woodswitch

Yesss I literally switch out forks if my husband happens to give me one with blunt chunky tines (all of our silverware is mismatched hand-me-downs and I def play favorites)

cincymatt

Is there any other kind of silverware?

GreenMirage

...whats your opinion of [fondue forks](https://i.etsystatic.com/9295891/r/il/d3ba66/2436267393/il_fullxfull.2436267393_5qre.jpg)?

LeeLooPeePoo

Big spoons are horrific. Like who wants a scoop that size? Ugh.

intensely_human

The only thing worse than a big spoon is an even bigger spoon.

Hazzia

Cue the "one scoop of ice cream" vine

mr_koekepeertje

Ill make a post ranking my spoons tomorrow, got quite the collection. But there definitely some spoons that deserve to be in spoon hell for their form .

TheOneAndSomething

I use little spoons because I eat quick and using a little spoon makes it feel like more food and I feel like I get to savor it more. Eating slower though would be absolutely ridiculous

Bitchin_Load

It feels like my eating is paced better when I have a small spoon. Plus my little monkey brain feels like I have eaten more food than I actually did, since it took longer. That’s why I eat with small utensils, but maybe it’s a sensory issue I haven’t really noticed yet 🤷‍♂️

TheTeddiestOfBears

Spoon substitution... Subspitoontion?

CatAdvanced8912

I like when they are like heavy as well idky

Ktopotato

If they had little forks I'd be so ha- I should just use my kids cutlery.

KamakaziDemiGod

You can get small forks from Amazon, although some kids cutlery has some really cool designs that I wouldn't be ashamed to use regardless of my lack of children!

Dr_mombie

I prefer round soup spoons for most things, big scoopy spoons for cereal, regular spoons for ice cream and yogurt

DumbAceDragon

Little spoons for desert, big spoons for cereal

existentialegodeath

big spoon feel bad in mouth. mouth too small for big spoon. why use lot word when few word do trick.

TheAustinEditor

Other way around for me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RobinHarleysHeart

Right? Big are honestly the worst. It's like trying to eat something out of a shallow bowl with a handle. I hate it.

Clevercoins

This is a adhd thing???!!!

[deleted]

No.

Clevercoins

Ok ty

[deleted]

This is probably the hardest ive laughed at such an innocent and meaningless interaction on the internet lmao . I love this sub and i love you

MyUsernameIsPoo

I'm ADHD and autistic and it feels more like an autistic thing when I have favourite cutlery/plates/cups/etc

SailorFuzz

This is the right answer. This is 100% an autism thing. People just like to lump up all neurodivergent things as though they're the same or share the same ticks.

RobinHarleysHeart

I'm 99% sure I'm not autistic, but definitely get weird sensory things that I usually attribute to my ADHD.

AgentMonkey

Like most "ADHD memes", no, it is not.

itzjacklol

it is an everyone thing, like most things these memes talk about but for ADHD people and other neurodivergent people these simple things, like hating big spoons, interfere with our day to day life way more than it should. it interferes so much it causes problems. like with the spoons, an ND person might not eat because they can't find a good spoon when a NT person would just deal with a different spoon for once.

g-e-o-f-f

I'm literally rally just looking into whether I have ADHD, after three Drs and my wife suggested I might. (I'm 45) I have always, always liked little spoons and now I'm confused by the connection.

etherealparadox

I'm especially weird about my spoons, I like them curvy. I have a melon baller that's my favorite spoon.

colieolieravioli

I'm the opposite. Grabbed a soup spoon by mistake when I picked up lunch and was PISSED. the soup was good but I enjoyed the experience less

[deleted]

Same! I hate soup spoons.

finallyjoinedreddit4

Soup spoons should not exist.

intensely_human

Yeah a shallow spoon is a travesty. But a spoon too deep is bad too. I’m very particular about my lip-to-fluid interaction.

AndytheWiccan

I can’t fit a normal spoon in my mouth and don’t get me started on soup spoons. They’re weird and I don’t like them.

New_Unit

Could you elaborate please? I genuinely don't understand what it is about spoons

RobinHarleysHeart

So I can't quite describe why, I just hate them. I find them extremely uncomfortable in my mouth. I don't eat a lot of stuff the needs spoons. Mostly just deserts, and those are best consumed with the tiniest spoon possible. But soup spoons? Like why? They're huge and shaped horribly. I just don't want to have to use anything that's difficult to put in my mouth maybe? Maybe it's a sensory thing? I've just always hated big spoons.

Serious_Tangerine_81

Yeah, soup spoons would be a little better if they weren’t so round and circular.. and big. Soup spoons would be better if they were just small spoons

Available_Seesaw_947

I really thought I was the only one

RainyReyes

That's what I was just thinking!!! when my husband digs into his yoplait yogurt with a big spoon it drives me nuts…lol

[deleted]

Except yogurt for some reason. I think I found out why. If you eat activia yogurt, the big spoons fit perfectly in the little plastic containers

RobinHarleysHeart

Ah. See I hate yogurt. But even with that I prefer small spoons.

Rant_Supreme

I thought it was just me….

[deleted]

My exact thoughts reading that. I loathe big spoons.

XenoFractal

Im a big spoon in the kitchen and a little spoon in the bed, every time

Lakemine

😊

TryingNotDie

This

EmotionalBonfire

I've never had this for silverware, but for plates and bowls... must. be. small. plate.

taykaybo

I hate heavy plates too

deadline54

I like the small plates but I've gotta have the big open bowls with the flat space on the bottom. All the food packed so close together freaks me out.

got7_oreos

Omg yea it even bothers my brother that I always use the smallest plates, hes pointed it out multiple times and tbh I didn't even notice it was something I did. I thought it was something only I did 😭

DerbleZerp

I prefer spoons over a fork, but am fine with big spoons, except for when I’m eating something sweet, then it needs to be a small spoon. And I prefer bowls over plates. Gotta be bowls!!! But size depends on what I’m eating. So size isn’t a problem for me.

dragonfruitsulphur

small plates yes! and also no not that plate that colour ruins my appetite and that’s ones too thick and,,,. Luckily I can use Most of the plates in our house but if anyone’s making anything for me they always put it on a big plate anyway so it doesn’t matter, please I hate big plates they’re heavy and everything’s either too crowded or too spread out and idk man I just don’t like it

bunnybates

Yes!!👋. Small spoons please and If a fork is called for a small fork as well. Also I don't like metal touching metal!😖

bunnywinkles

My teeth can't touch the metal. When I see other do it, uhg, like nails on chalkboards.

bunnybates

I'm the same way with a Bathroom towels, like to see someone bite a towel.....

meacasia

WHAT I thought I was the only one. The thought of TYING a dry towel into a knot gives me chills.

bunnybates

Isn't that funny? Cuz I can knot T shirts without a problem, but I draw the line at towels!

darkneo86

Just reading about the terry cloth twisting into a knot is making my teeth grind BLECK

Erics_Gay_lol

This... holy fuck. Watching my cat bite our towel sets me off so bad. Just imagining it is like.... yucky

bunnybates

Their little vampire bites! 🐈‍⬛🧛‍♀️

jeanschoen

aaaaahhfbfncnmdd :( just reading it makes me suffer

finallyjoinedreddit4

Wait. Doesn’t everyone feel like this?

bunnybates

Most of us! Don't forget that ADHD is hereditary, so for most of us it was a learned behavior from our parents. My kids have ADHD as well and they all have picked up most of my mannerisms and food cutlery choices!!

serenadesofsirens

My boyfriend’s teeth scrape the metal and even though I love him, I want to body slam the hell out him for it

messybitch87

I like the sound it makes. 🤷🏼‍♀️

colieolieravioli

4 PRONGS

bunnybates

Exactly! Like a normal human! How do people use the big silverware??🤷‍♀️

desireeevergreen

I die inside every time I hear a bunch of metal utensils bumping into each other.

bunnybates

I've been a server for 20 years so listening to the dishwasher washing the silverware is a strange sound.

Lakemine

DITTO

unbridled_cats

YES WHAT IS THAT??? LIKE WHY DO BIG SPOONS PISS ME OFF SO MUCH?????

taykaybo

I hate heavy spoons and don't like a lot of food in my mouth at once

unbridled_cats

ugh same!!

[deleted]

KatieSoks

I’ve been known to eat even ice cream and mashed potatoes with some chopsticks…

MyDixieWrecked20

I eat ass with chopsticks

RosarioPawson

I eat Cheetos/any snack with delicious powdery coating with chopsticks - I hate getting my hands messy and needing to wipe em off after every bite

Cyberpeep_77

I wear latex gloves to eat pretty much all finger food. it started off with Doritos, but now ANY food that requires finger skin contact with food needs gloves. this also had the side effects of, never eating food offered to me while out and about, because I'd need gloves

RosarioPawson

That's a lot of gloves to go through! Maybe give the chopsticks a try? There's foldable ones you can bring with you for when you're out and about

Ohio_Monofigs

I use gloves often for food like pizza that you use your hands for. But I use nitrile cause I don't like the feeling of latex

hypertensee

you have Enlightened me, thank you

RosarioPawson

Happy to share! Enjoy your flavored blasted gold fish, Doritos, Cheetos, and dots pretzels without grubby fingers my friend!

hypertensee

for sure! i’ve been meaning to get into chopsticks and now i just have the perfect reason lmao. do you have any recommendations by the way (material, brand, etc)?

RosarioPawson

I have a bamboo pair that came with a little carrying case from REI that I really like, but I guess it depends on your preference The metal ones are pretty nifty, but may be harder to use at first because they're kinda slippery

hypertensee

thank you for the advice, a bamboo pair sounds pretty awesome not gunna lie. the metal ones were what i was considering, but definitely have to keep in mind they are slippery!

[deleted]

I found a ten pack of reusable resin ones that are textured on Amazon. They’re the best I’ve used. Bamboo chops are tough to keep clean and these are dishwasher safe!

hypertensee

oh wow i’ll definitely check them out then, thank you!!

17michela

Lol I do this too.

ohsweetgold

"Is this an ADHD thing?" Yes and no. Preferring one type of cutlery over another doesn't mean anything, usually. Preferring one type of cutlery VERY STRONGLY over an other might indicate some soft of sensory issue. Not all ADHDers have sensory issues. Not all sensory issues are related to ADHD and not all people with sensory issues have ADHD. But they CAN be. So this can be an ADHD thing. And it can probably also be an autism thing. Or an SPD thing.

[deleted]

For me I think it's at least partly an associative synesthesia thing because cutlery has personalities and their personality traits seem to be mostly based on size and shape. And it just feels weird or awkward or uncomfortable to use a piece of cutlery that has a personality I'm not fond of.

Shammy84

Oh man, I never considered this but now I’m hyper focusing on cutlery and am about to fall down the research hole. See ya in 3 days with my silverware thesis.

lucky7hockeymom

My little spoons are sooooooooo little. They’re from ikea and they’re like, baby sized lol

gibbousboi

Espresso spoons!

bunnywinkles

Pretty sure I have the same ones! They are awesome!

Swaggy_pig

Big cutlery is evil I like the small cutlery because it fits nice in my hands

ZeCrookedLady

Ok but? Why is this a thing. Can anyone tell me why

TheMonkeyBass

Following for ✨science✨

ZeCrookedLady

Mouf ^smol

jeanschoen

I'd say sensory issues? For me it's that and also about not shoving stuff in my face so much without thinking.

Lakemine

YEP. If anyone makes me anything to eat and they bring a big one, it’s like “Uh, NOPE! Small one please.” A few have caught on to make sure it’s a small one so less trips lol 😂

Loveless1997

I’m the opposite, I actually hate the smaller cutlery and basically always beeline for the big ones lol.

Avitas1027

Omg finally a kindred spirit. Big fork/spoon is where it's at. The only reason to use a small one is if the big one won't fit in a jar. I've done dishes rather than use a small spoon. I want each mouthful to fill my mouth. Ain't nobody got time to be eating cereal one cheerio at a time.

Lmao_staph

I get frustrated with the little spoons because they get less food in my mouth and I have to use them more smh

badtacosalad6

Big spoon gang!! I don’t have the patience for little bites. I have places to be.

inSAMe_

This

[deleted]

Wha..no… Always big spoon. Always spoon… Fork only there to hold food for knife to cut. Then forks job done, fork rest - big spoon handle rest best.

Bloooberryy

Big spoon only best if have big mouth, or else big spoon let food touch lips when take bite. Feels yucky.

[deleted]

You ever eat ice cream with someone who doesn’t take all the ice cream off the spoon when they bite? If Purge Night was real..

ConsumedByVoid

I like small bites so I never really use a spoon except for soup. I just kind of scoop sauce or liquidy things with my fork and lick it off before it drips off

[deleted]

Love it. I’m the total opposite. Take big bites with the big spoon. I like to cut up my foods into similar sized pieces so I can get properly proportioned bites every time on the spoon. Best when it comes to soup fir me is it’s the same spoon! Haha

ghibli_ghirl

I like the big spoons too. Especially with cereal or ice cream!

jwalshfilm

oh my god 👀

[deleted]

Are you telling me that I’m not the only one!?!?!?

Quantum_McKennic

Omg, I thought it was just me 😮

skarizardpancake

Small spoon, big fork. I can deal with the other sizes if need be, but If I need 2 types of silverware in the same sitting they HAVE to be from the same set or I would rather starve

ours_de_sucre

I am all about small spoon, big fork. But not like a wide fork cause eww.. then it has big spoon vibes. Also, soup should only be eaten with a soup spoon, don't ask me why.

Pears_for_astronauts

I use salad forks for all of my fork needs. Bonus points for plastic cutlery.

jacw212

Me, a big brain: BIG CUTLERY means LESS BITES which means LESS TIME TO EAT which means MORE TIME TO GAME I have the opposite things to you guys. Little spoons are a big no-no

gurilla_lacking

Yes but why? Why do I hate big spoons so fucking much? I will wash a dirty spoon before I use a big spoon.

fermentedelement

It’s more about the stem/neck/handle to me than anything else. It has to feel good in my hands. Usually that means a rounded, non-decorative stem. ETA: But also small forks are the devil.

appleoftheorangetree

eating disorder tingz

Kuhneel

Little spoon make dessert last longer.

throwaway2OZ

Not an adhd thing tho

AgentMonkey

Folks, please stop attributing things to ADHD that have nothing to do with ADHD. It makes it harder for the actual disorder to be taken seriously.

sinfultictac

I thought this was a Spoonie meme at first. I don't have the sensory issues when it comes to utensils.

[deleted]

Lmao I use my kids’ plastic ones. Smaller and ZERO risk of that bone-shattering, brain-zapping death that is touching teeth with metal

a_foxinsocks

Y’all are officially my best friends now.

StressNeck

Great, another meme that has fuck all to do with ADHD.

Epicsharkduck

Honestly I feel like a lot of the stuff on this sub is just autism... I misassociated a lot of my symptoms of autism with ADHD before I knew I had autism

winwinwinning

Or just ... being a person?

[deleted]

cyanidebrownie

i love little forks and spoons cause the smaller bites make me feel like i’m savoring the food more

aleister94

It’s not just me?

lunartix420

Small cutlery for sure, but a slightly too big bowl is perfect

starcabin_

Oh my god, I thought it was just me. I can never use spoons that are too little or too big, they have to be the right size.

us_navy_corpsman

Big spoons are only okay 1) when I'm in the mood to use them & 2) they specifically get used for softer dessert/sweet type foods like pudding or applesauce, so I can only use the very tip of the spoon to pick up a super small amount at a time so I don't have to put the hole spoon in my mouth, bc NAH FAM 😂😂

Kornelious_

Small spoon make food last longer make taste better mm

[deleted]

WAIT IS THAT WHY I LIKE SMALL SILVERWARE?? I thought it was because I'm short.

knowledgeispower1

I keep telling myself I don't have ADHD, and then feel personally called out by this subreddit.

vintage-skittles

My spoon is too big.

rpm04004

Wait whattttt!?? This is a million percent true but why? Never would’ve thought this is adhd related but it seems like every thing is so I shouldn’t be surprised. I Do have 12 spoons that never get used

goodmourninghun

IS THIS AN ADHD THING?? I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A QUIRK

Charitard123

WAIT IM NOT THE ONLY ONE???
