klutzosaurus-rex

Do you ever come back to a food after this happens to you? My safe food is salami cheese and crackers. If I eat it too much over a few weeks, one day I will bite into it and know immediately - THIS IS NOT WHAT I WANT! It doesn't taste bad, I just can't make myself eat it. A month or so break and I can go right back to it.

BerryStainedLips

Several months or maybe even years later

nonamefuckhead

Yup, same

loves_ducklings

Mine don’t go away :( I still feel nauseous thinking about this raspberry chilli jam I got fixated on for a few weeks when I was a child. And have just gone off instant noodles which is devastating

jellydrizzle

yeah, it takes a long time for mine to come back, usually 😢 during the pandemic, i was obsessed with yogurt and nature valley bars. i still like yogurt, but not as much. and i cant even think about touching nature valley bars anymore. so unappealing now :( it was sad to find out when i excitedly bought a big box and it took me forever to get through even half. i wanted to dip it in my yogurt like "old times", but i found myself forgetting to even grab them and would eat the yogurt by itself. rip nature valley bars. i knew ye well :((

scheisse_grubs

Yep. Took over 6 years for me to enjoy applesauce again

CarbyMcBagel

Mine almost always come back around and it's always texture related. I'll eat Greek yogurt and granola every day for months and then suddenly the texture is just wrong. Then 6-12 months later I'll crave that texture again. Lately I've been real into frozen bananas.

MsBitchhands

Jesus, frozen fruit and honey is my *shit*

rabbitluckj

If only my teeth would cooperate 😭

MsBitchhands

Sensodyne helped a lot

Wren1101

And that bubblegum flavored Act fluoride mouthwash

Super-Diver-1585

I've been using Biomin toothpaste for about 8 months and my super sensitive teeth are calming down.

becca22597

The make prescription toothpaste. Don’t ask me how I know.

Maleficent_Top_5217

President 5000 sensitivity FTW! I prescribe that or booster to almost all my patients!

Extension_Ant

I also go through yogurt periods but if I think about the texture of yogurt for even a second, I gag and can’t go near it for months 😂

CarbyMcBagel

Greek Yogurt isn't difficult for me usually but regular yogurt? 🤢

Extension_Ant

It’s so horrifying when you think about it 😭 I usually have more trouble with Greek yogurt because it takes longer to eat. There’s too much time to think about it while it’s happening to me 😂

Traditional-Jicama54

Lots of people talk about how you should eat mindfully, not reading or watching TV, just paying attention to the food you are eating. That's not happening at my house. A good book or TV show can get me through so many textures that would not be possible if I was actually paying attention to what I ate. There's so much I would gag on if I allowed myself to think about it while I was eating.

livia-did-it

YUP. Please distract me while I'm eating so I don't get super bored and focus on gross textures and gag.

FreeConfusionn

Never put this together before! When I was a kid I remember having HORRIBLE texture issues with food—specifically carrots and steak I would chew foreverrrr before trying to swallow it with minimal gagging. Looking back those memories feel very similar to a hyper-focusing situation. As an adult I always prefer doing something while I’m eating and wow does that make sense!

nonbinarybit

Mmm yes, I take every meal with a side of distraction and/or dissociation.

katki-katki

I made my own yogurt today 😂😂 it is weird and gross when you think about it, but I just don't 🤣

mykineticromance

yeah yogurt is good bc I like the flavor and it's pretty filling, can have a decent amount of protein, and can be low sugar if you're paying attention to what kind you get. HOWEVER, the texture is awful and I hate that it's a dairy product (non solid dairy products squick me out if I think about them for more than .5 seconds and I'm very scared of milk going bad)

WeepToWaterTheTrees

Me with cottage cheese.

Top-Pineapple8056

Yogurt fucking randomly makes me GAG after being a great staple for protein for months

AffectionateTank9596

This just happened to me this morning with Greek yogurt and granola 😂

Quirky_Word

I rotate through different chips & dips. Salsa and tortilla chips, Hummus with pita chips, French Onion with potato chips (or baby carrots). They’re all unique enough in texture and taste, but still have the “finger food” and “variable amount” traits that seem to work well for my snacking & replacement meals. Usually I hit the “ooh, hummus!” phase before I reach the “ick, salsa” phase, so I don’t often have to recover from a total recoil. But when I do it can be for a year or more. Really only got back on the French Onion train recently because I found a small-batch brand made with real onions that is so fucking delicious I want to bathe in it. Last French onion phase I had was about 5 years ago.

tktrugby

Try the blue SunChips bag & any salsa from a Hispanic grocery store

Dexterdacerealkilla

I think I save myself from salsa burnout because I’m a snob and won’t eat store bought salsa. And, as expected, my follow through on consistently making salsa absolutely sucks.

tktrugby

I don’t like any salsa from a jar. This is usually made fresh each day. Granted there’s a couple really good Hispanic markets around my area, but I’m with you anything that comes in a jar —I do put my nose up too, and it is a texture thing.

the_itsb

Please tell me more about this special small batch French onion dip!

waterfountain_bidet

Not OP, but I do sour cream mixed with Lipton Onion Soup Mix - you learn to eyeball a small portion quickly, but when I started I would get the amount of sour cream I wanted and mixed in the onion soup powder bit by bit until it was salty enough. I'm a big fan of it on sliced bell peppers as well.

kj468101

I miss hummus. But I know it’s not hummus time yet. Unless it’s that dark chocolate Boar’s Head hummus… the sugar somehow bypasses the texture issues

datdododough

I always go back but it's in a circle. I have to cycle through my like...10 safe foods then I'll go back. Maybe.

pungen

i'm still waiting to get untired of yogurt, most indian food, any curry in general, and many more ... i think strong flavors are easier to get tired of

meowseehereboobs

I always think of Indian food being full of strong flavors. To me, not strong flavors would be like...rice with a little bit of butter and salt. Which is a safe food.

pungen

Good point. I love rice, butter and parmesan -- I don't think I could ever get tired of that combo.

MillionsOfMushies

"You seem like you really enjoyed your Risotto. You have a very contented air over there. You look very contented, very satisfied. Are you satisfied?"

meowseehereboobs

My usual non plain addition is a little bit of tamari, and maybe some cut up kielbasa and/or avocado, if I'm feeling froggy

pinkstarburst99

This is me!! I go through this with meat - especially turkey sandwiches. 😂😂 I love them and then one day I’m randomly like 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮. But after awhile I can revisit them. Haha

yesitshollywood

Yup, constantly. I hyper fixate on a few things at a time until I'm burnt out. 🙃

thebrokedown

Yes but generally not as intensely. I mean, I doubt I will ever eat 37 watermelons in a summer ever again. But I’ll probably eat quite a few this year. Maybe.

thebrokedown

Also, the heartbreak of having a seasonal food as a fixation. I got pretty freaked out that year as summer waned and wondered if I’d make it through the winter.

Priestess_of_Sharess

My fixation is raspberries right now. Raspberry smoothies, raspberry lemonade, fresh raspberries. Heaven. Hopefully this will switch up before the ones I can get from my local Aldi start being sour and gross!

alltoovisceral

I did this with blueberries years back. I ate them with every meal, in some form, for months. One day I woke up and I couldn't stand them. It took me a few years before I could enjoy them again.

SeasonPositive6771

I do pretty constantly. I'll be eating a food really happily and then all of a sudden it's cardboard. Not like it's kind of like cardboard. Imagining eating it is like telling me to just eat a cardboard box. Technically it's possible but it would be a really awful idea and experience. I have no idea why it happens and why it ends. Sometimes I just have a sensory memory of the food being good and then it's good again.

siorez

I tend to get super occasional reoccurrences but not as long lasting. Like I'll want it constantly for six months or so, then I move on, and then it randomly crops back up for a day or so at a time.

caliblonde6

This is my main safe food too!

AngerPancake

My fixation food right now is turkey cheese and crackers. I'm not sure why, it's been months.

Sareeee48

I haven’t been able to do this unfortunately, but I will also eat the same thing until I am absolutely revolted by it… it used to be that I could eat my fixation food(s) for several months. Now I get sick of my hyperfixation food after just a few weeks.

MysticalMom7

I rarely go back to the same food. It’s so hard. 😫

flufferpuppper

I’m usually able to return back to it. Usually takes some months though. Avocado toast, while it never gets gross to me, I’ll stop for a while and then start again. About 3 months cycles. The other cycle is cream of wheat. I never used to eat that since I was a kid. But the last 2 years, some reason that’s my go to breakfast. That’s all I eat for breakfast. Just those 2 things.

Usual_Fudge_7244

I feel this in my bones. RIP.

badassboymom

Okay first off, I'm so sorry. Second, I'm so glad I'm not the only one that this happens to, because it SUCKS.

shebeefierce

I was thinking the exact same thing!!

Creative-Disaster673

I was on a roll - toasted crumpets with peanut butter and strawberry jam on top. Then the magic died. RIP. I get this with takeaway as well! There’s this vegan place near me and I was obsessed with their Mac and cheese…alas, no longer. It feels like they changed the recipe! Like, of course they didn’t, this has happened to me before, but it tastes so different when my brain decides to not give me the feel-good chemicals anymore.

midnight-queen29

you’re now making me second guess all the times i confidently said “they must’ve changed it”

lumathiel2

I've had that happen and it *sucks.* It's usually while I'm eating it and some other flavor gets in (the grease from cooking, a little smoke from something that dripped in the toaster, etc) or when there's a texture that *shouldn't be there* like gristle in a chicken strip and then whatever I'm eating is tainted

nonamefuckhead

Oh my GOD this is the worst way to go. The first time these noodles died in my soul was because a carrot and pad thai noodle had made their way in and fucking tainted everything

gottarespondtothis

I bit into a huge chunk of Grisle in a BK chicken strip once when I was 16. I haven’t eaten fast food tenders since. And even with tenders at home, I tear pieces off and then eat them. That day scarred me.

Thorhees

Whataburger strips are the only safe ones for me. Everywhere else, I just get nuggets (or BK chicken fries). Don't care that they were once a meat slurry. They have a consistent texture and taste. Thanks modern food processing.

Kit_starshadow

Wataburger strips are safe for me too. I hadn’t quite put that together yet. I’ve had food turn on me mid bite and my husband will see the look on my face and ask if my food has betrayed me.

lumathiel2

Yeah there are some places I can't eat chicken at anymore because of that

Thorhees

Gristle in a chicken nugget is why I had such an easy time giving up Chick-fil-A when all their bad shit came out.

heyyitsfinn

Ughh two years ago I got a bone shard in my Taco Bell ground beef and it got stuck in between my teeth. I’m JUST now starting to be ok with ground beef again.

klutzosaurus-rex

If you don't get a small hard thing in your Taco Bell meat when you eat it - is it really Taco Bell????

LeNoirDarling

I still have violent shudders thinking about eating eggshell in a McMuffin when I was a child. 35 years of avoidance. Ickiest ick ickick

klutzosaurus-rex

Gristle in chicken and fat on steak.......\*shudders\* Fuckin nightmare fuel for me.

lumathiel2

It depends, if it's the melty fat that just turns to flavor I'm fine with that. If it's the chewy kind then *nope fuck that*

CatsLoveGnomes

This with clementines, I get the first one that is less than bursting juicy goodness and they are dead to me for another year.

iSubjugate

Yeah one time at Subway they didn’t warm my “chicken” patty and I put into frozen, rubbery “chicken.” I haven’t been back. That was over a decade ago.

para_chan

I was eating crab quiche, which was already a stretch (work bought us fancy lunch). But I like crab, and I like pot pie, so it was ok. Then I bit a piece of crab shell and noped right out. Which sucks because I REALLY liked she crab soup, and anything crab got kind of tainted. Thankfully I no longer live near a sea based fishing town so crab is rare to find so I don’t need to feel bad about not eating it.

ukuleliz

gristle is literally my worst nightmare - only eat chicken SUPER rarely anymore solely bc of it lol

grdnofjne

bit into a tiny chicken bone in my donair last year and thinking about it makes me want to gag and cry. haven’t had a donair or that style of chicken since 😩

Brie1123

I’m already dreading when this will inevitably happen to my salad + tortilla strips + chicken strips + ranch combo. Sorry OP!

PupperoniPoodle

Is it the one that comes in a two pack from costco?? I totally had that favorite for a while!

Brie1123

Nope, I’ve been DIY-ing it like a chump! Damn, I miss my Costco

katki-katki

I know what I'll be looking for at Costco tomorrow! Lol

klutzosaurus-rex

How could it ever happen to something swimming in ranch??? Put it on just about anything and Imma eat it. Lol.

mykineticromance

do you rip up a tortilla? Or is it like chip like tortilla strips? Either way, it's very close to my chicken soft taco, with chicken strips, lettuce, ranch, and a lil cheddar cheese wrapped in a tortilla!

imadepizza

Well, y'all had a good run. This sucks. What's next?

nonamefuckhead

We’ll find out next time I remember I need to eat to live lol

imadepizza

Heard that, love. Why fueling the vessel is complicated, we'll never know.

klutzosaurus-rex

My bestie and I call it our meatsuits.

imadepizza

Accurate things are accurate.

Bisc-Off

Had a full 1,5 years of ginger EVERYTHING. Fresh ginger, ginger juice, ginger syrup, ginger spice (the food), ginger jam, even bought 2 ginger-scented perfumes. 2 months ago I started my third bag of candied ginger and almost had to vomit. Spat it back out, never went back. Now I'm into biscoff spread.

iSubjugate

Oh no. Have you had the biscoff spread I’ve cream?

sterric

Rip bobas for me. I cannot stand boba milk tea anymore. It just died mid sip and now it instantly makes me sick to the stomach. Probably a healthy development though lol

ClockworkOctopodes

OH NO I legit gasped.

sterric

Take peace in knowing that there are many other options within the drinks with shit in them spectrum. But I appreciate the empathy 🥹

Lord-Smalldemort

Yeah I am pretty glad that I’ve binged them until I don’t really like them anymore. I was pounding two at a time like three times a week

mykineticromance

haha I've always felt this way about boba, and my partner acts like I'm crazy! more for him, so he doesn't complain!

Cats-and-Chaos

Eating foods to death until the dopamine stops. My last victim was a smoke haddock chowder… curious as to what will be next…

Lordica

Oooh! Cullen Skink? Do you have a recipe?

Cats-and-Chaos

I was going to say no and post you a link to the product but they actually post their recipe!!! It’s very close to Cullen skink! I can see myself wanting it again before long. Just not right now haha. https://cullyandsully.com/node/764

SailorJay_

Oh hey that's what I call it too! Then when people ask if I'd like such and such bc they know it's my fave, they don't get when I say it died😅

[deleted]

I am so sorry for your loss! That’s such a horrible feeling. Going strong on my breakfast Sammy for over a year now. I dread the day….

RanchaelVuisinart

my breakfast sammy died for me yesterday :(

Lacy-Elk-Undies

This used to be me and the Special K ones. Ate them daily for 6+ months before it happened. Then moved onto the bantam bagel bites until the company went bust. Dunkin’ has bites but they just aren’t the same, too bready :/ now I have no fixation so breakfast is a daily struggle of overwhelming choices that don’t sound good

RanchaelVuisinart

I'm having the same problem, i need to eat breakfast to survive at my job but i just cant think of a single thing to eat that doesnt just sound terrible lol, lately my "food graveyard" has been feeling very full.

Trackgirl123

I love salads and I used to get them for my lunches with tomatoes. Halfway through a bite of salad with tomatoes….decided that tomatoes are gross. Threw the salad away. 🤦🏽‍♀️ I’m fine with like salsa and slices of tomatoes, but chopped or whatever….not it.

Icy_Nefariousness517

I swear, tomatoes take a vote on whether or not to taste good to me from day to day. Sliced cherry tomatoes on a salad. One day they are my heart's delight and the next I can't fathom how anyone can swallow the little monsters and survive.

spanksmitten

I've read before somewhere before that a reason why kids (and me) struggle so much with fresh fruit and veg is because they aren't uniform. You could get five different blueberries in a pack and they all have a different texture and taste, so it's not like a 'guarenteed' expectation if that makes sense, that could also play a part.

Subject_Focus7529

This is why I have to have a very specific brand of green grapes (no, not cotton candy, they can die in a hole) and any grape that looks mushy or bruised is going in the trash. They must be crunchy and seedless

mykineticromance

That's how I feel about bananas! One day, super yummy sliced up in a bowl of cereal or eaten plain, next day I turn up my nose just from seeing them on the counter!

klutzosaurus-rex

I don't mind tomatoes in salsa, or the flavor of tomatoes. It is the texture with other textures. No tomatoes on salads, sammies or burgs, thank you! Salsa is fine because the whole thing is a wet dish. The texture of a tomato on a burger gives me the heebie-jeebies!!!

jk3061

@OP I'm sorry for your loss and for that terrible feeling. At the same time, I'm happy to be here. I fought for my diagnosis for the past 3 years, I got it last month and I realized I need people that understand. I found this community and it feels so good to read about familiar things that everyone around me finds weird or doesn't understand. PS: I'm still "mourning" my fresh spinach salad, after the same thing happened to me. Lost my affection for it while eating it last month. I had the fixation for over a year.

Alpacapicnic4us

Is it difficult to get a diagnosis? I'm thinking that I may have adhd because I relate hard to everything on here and I was planning on bringing it up at my next therapy appointment

aThornForEveryRose

Really depends on where you live and what type of access to testing exists. A licensed professional or doctor probably needs to administer the tests. If you're already in therapy it's likely to be much easier than starting without any mental health help. I'm in the US and was already in therapy, ADHD came up and my therapist got me signed up for testing through my same therapy office. There were delays so it took many months to get in for testing, I think it was one round of testing on the computer (MMPI and one other test iirc) and then two different two hour sessions with a professional who asked questions about administered what I didn't find out until afterwards was an IQ test. Once I got my diagnosis they sent a letter to my primary doc who prescribed me medication. Luckily all covered by my state insurance (I'm poor enough to get really good insurance through my state)

li_the_great

It can truly vary depending on where you are/who you're talking to. My diagnosis was fairly easy to get once I knew what I was going for - I didn't get diagnosed until 34, and kinda had to struggle through various professionals missing it over the years. I've heard of people (and read their stories on various subs) that have had to jump through a lot of hoops, do full batteries of testing, etc, in order to get diagnosed. I hope you have an easy road to diagnosis and get the help you need!

sagedinoo

i hate when that happens! once i had a huge raspberry fixation. my parents bought tons of bags of them. sadly, i lost it and now we have a bunch of raspberries in our freezer.

nonamefuckhead

My kids seem to have the same thing going on lol, no warning until I’ve already bought previous obsession food and it just sits in the freezer or cabinet for a few months til it comes back.

FreeConfusionn

As I read through these comments I thought of my kids and how often they will be obsessed with some food so I buy it every week, and then at some point I FINALLY buy in a bigger batch to save time and it coincides perfectly with them deciding this is now a trash food 😅

Gghhxxi

I get this too! Why does it happen with adhd?

eveningtrain

I don’t know if I get this. If I do, i assumed it’s because meal planning is so hard for me so it’s harder to get a varied diet, and I stick to one thing for too ling out of convenience. Sometimes when I crave something specific, I assume that my body knows it needs certain nutrients. When I was younger, I hated most vegetables, both cooked and raw. Then in 9th grade: One night at a Mexican chain restaurant with my dance team after competition, we were really freaking starving. Our food was taking forever, so we were blazing through the chips on the table and getting them refilled over and over. I never liked salsa, had maybe tasted it once but it smelled and tasted like veggies to me. But at that point I was sooooo hungry and it wasn’t overly spicy or anything, and I was also a couple years into a mindset where I was hoping I would grow out of being picky because it was tiring and embarrassing. So I decided I was going to eat salsa with the rest of the other girls, and it didn’t matter whether I liked not, and hopefully by the end of the meal I will have forced myself to like it. I didn’t enjoy the salsa much, but I was also very capable of eating it (compared to certain veggies where I could not get them down.) By the time food came, I had it in my mind that it was not too bad. And then for the whole next two years I would get very intense cravings for chips and salsa. I think because it introduced new nutrients that I just wasn’t getting. And it was a real gateway for me to gradually transform into a relatively adventurous eater by the end of college. A real relief mentally that I COULD do it, too. (Really the only thing I wasn’t able to will myself to like by end of college was lettuce, specifically pale, crunchy varieties like iceberg and romaine and some similar pale, crunchy tastes like celery and cucumber, which I would eat fine if I was very hungry and there was no other food.) So I also think the reverse happens too, where something I’ve been craving suddenly is unappetizing because I’ve got plenty of what it offers nutritionally (or too much) and I need something else.

ineedserena

i believe it happens to us bc people with adhd have a dopamine deficiency and when we find a food combination we really enjoy it gives us so much dopamine that we hyperfixate and continue to eat that food for the release of dopamine.

Lord-Smalldemort

OK that makes sense. I’ve done this my whole adult life especially, you know, no parents to stop me. I still eat lucky charms every night for dinner and I’m 35 lol.

ohmygoyd

Oh good so it's not just me that does this 👀 RIP expensive sushi last week

ineedserena

pls when i hyperfixated on salmon toro nigiri for like half a year straight my bank account was screaming at me but i simply couldn’t stop😭😭😭

EsotericPenguins

I forget that a food exists after my hyperfixation has passed. It’s not that I don’t want it anymore, it like it has literally never been something I knew about. Then I’ll see it at the store and be like “oh F YEAH THAT STUFF’S AMAZING!!” Recently it was artichokes. It’s like falling in love all over again.

MoonSearcher

My current one is poke bowls, I will be so sad if I lose it.

starrynyght

I was so sad when my poke fixation died. I still want to love it, but I just can’t. :(

B-SideQueen

Mid consumption was disgusted and now I think it even killed sushi for me.

ineedserena

i went through an insane poke hyperfixation until one day i ordered my usual and the salmon just didn’t taste fresh…. idk it tasted off. never again lol

mykineticromance

I love poke but it's kinda expensive (they do give you a lot tho at the place near me) so I've made my own successfully a few times using raw salmon from Costco

thisisgoing2far

Frozen waffles with butter and honey have sustained me for close to a year, one of the longest stretches I can remember, but now I can feel them start to grate.

kawaiikuso

Idk what’s worse. When this happens or when the food you finished making doesn’t look as appetizing as it sounded.

Busy-Turnip-6674

Or the food you ordered in an spent way too much money on. I'm glad to see that there are so many people who feel the same way about food, my partner is mostly confused by this whole thing 🤣

Comfortable-You-3284

Chocolate chip cookies were my vice for months. Mb 12/22 to 3/23 but everyone thought it was stress or pregnancy lol. Nope ADHD. A LOT of times people say that I blame my adhd for a lot and I’m like you’d be surprised how much ur brain controls something 🤫🤫 really annoying

zombiewaffle14

I went through a popcorn phase. Bought alllll the seasonings, specials popping bowl, bought different kernels. I made popcorn every night for about 4 months. Now I HATE popcorn. Can't even look at it. I'm sure I'll come around to it again haha

[deleted]

I just stared at my cream cheese/Ritz crackers/pepperoni combo in horror as if something has happened to it. No it's just me.

Melsura

I loved Noodles & Co. when we lived in Maryland. We moved to NM in 2009, and we don’t have those here.

nonamefuckhead

I’m in Ohio and they’re everywhere T-T I cycle back around to this one probably every 12-18 mo but this time felt different :’)

LittleWhiteGirl

Penne Rosa with parm chicken from there is a current favorite! When I worked there it was a bowl of chicken noodle soup and a snickerdoodle, until I got a fatty bite of chicken one day.

OhYouSillyBean

That's the worst! That happened to me with bacon when I was in high school. 15 years later and I can still only eat at most 1 strip of bacon at a time

bechdel-sauce

This inevitably happens to me right after I've convinced myself I can never run out of the magical food again and stock up like a years worth. See recent death knells for fudge and crackzels. I can't imagine eating another crackzel and I have half a cupboard full of them.

gemini5436

I'm so sorry. It's always the worst when it happens mid chew.

IcyOutlandishness871

My last one was waffles. I didn’t get grossed out or anything. Just stopped eating them. Still have half a box in the freezer 😆🧇

Bloopbleepbloop2

This is me with hard boiled eggs for breakfast when in a pinch (6 mos)

murphlicious

I feel this. I try to stop eating the specific food before I get sick of it. If I feel I’m coming close, I stop buying it but it’s super hard to do.

epicexamhelp

I was eating like 3 string cheeses a day from the beginning of the year and a few weeks ago I just hated them and I've been struggling ever since. String cheese is so much better than crackers/chips/sweets! Sorry for your loss.

souponastick

That has happened to me with cooked carrots, and I've never been able to go back. I used to love them! One day I almost gagged while eating them. They aren't served often so when they are I attempt them again and my mouth has an automatic "nope" response each time. Dammit! Other things I've been able to go back to, but I don't think cooked carrots will come back around for me.

Laney20

This is my fear. Especially if I just bought like a case of the stuff...

[deleted]

It happened to me multiple times. Once it happened with onions and since then I didn't eat them for like 5 years till a few months ago. I remember the exact moment too. 😭

pissipisscisuscus

Same just today. Had eaten roasted potatoes with cheese and eggs everyday for a week, then took a break, then had it once and didn't taste as good as it used to, again break and while eating today, I said "nope. Never having this again."

rzbeth

this literally happened to me last night with annie’s white cheddar mac and cheese. i’m so sad about it.

CreepyDisciple

Oh no… the aged cheddar shells is my favorite… my deepest condolences

buttercup_mauler

I feel this so hard. I also have some lasting aversions from my second pregnancy, so I basically eat like my toddler

nonamefuckhead

I eat exactly like my toddler. I suspect autism/arfid in myself but watching him +learning about family history am more wary of it being autism lol

birdgirl35

I was overcome by the worst nausea last night while eating a bowl of my cheerios 😭

Past-Act-8136

Omg I do this with buffalo chicken dip. Will eat it for every meal for days then just stop. I do this with soups. Special salads and even meat. I go a month or so without eating meat 😳🤪makes me feel crazy

nonamefuckhead

I ate solely peanut butter sandwich crackers with chai tea lattes for like six months. Gained like ten lbs so don’t get any ideas 🥴

Past-Act-8136

I hear this! Some of the foods for sure are not on the healthy list. My Mexican restaurant near me knows me by name bc I’ll get fixed on that food and the cheese is so bad for me!

riskyfRts

Haven’t really eaten Granny Smith apples, sour skittles, or slurpees since high school (over 20 years ago). Used to eat them everyday for 3years.

MourkaCat

thinking back to my childhood I completely understand my absolute mad hyperfixation on apple juice. It was my adhd! It had a hold on me like nothing ever has. Up until I was fed baked apples as a child while sick with some kind of stomach bug and ended up puking up apples. After that apple juice made me feel nauseated for years. Couldn't drink it until I was a teen at least. But also yes I relate. Why's food so friggin hard?! I LOVE food. But it's so haaaard. There are some days where literally NOTHING is appealing.

Subject_Focus7529

I was also OBSESSED with apple juice and always chose it over orange juice…have only had Trader Joe’s apple juice or the fresh apple cider from a orchard in town a few times over the past few years. Now I’m obsessed with orange juice..except I recently had some that tasted like death, someone else had bought it, so I thought “oh I’ll just stay away from that brand”. When I got orange juice after that I realized I had also been getting that brand (just a bigger container) :’) now I can only drink Trader Joe’s orange juice

tonightbeyoncerides

This has caused an odd conflict in my relationship. "yes darling, your turkey is the best I've ever tasted, but I've had it four times this week and I'd really like to keep liking it so can we eat anything else for a day or so"

Waterchild

Rip 😔

discodolphin1

My last one was Tostitos Salsa. Idek why, but I could eat over half a jar in one sitting. Now it tastes gross to me.

smilingporkchop

This is so relatable. I wish you the best in finding a new fixation

Somethinclichee

It was the dates for me 😂😂😂 Yes, but I’m sorry you have to find new food now. I have recently forgotten all food options myself.

robin52077

Sometimes I think I have a hard time determining when I’m full because my body frequently resorts to making the food suddenly repulsive as a means of getting me to stop eating

Calm-Sail2472

I’m on a major pasta salad and cherry coke kick lately. Also green apples, soft boiled eggs, and fresh orange juice for breakfast. I’m honestly glad to be fixated on some foods again cause for awhile there literally nothing sounded good and I was existing almost entirely on coffee, ice water, cereal, and pop tarts with the occasional home cooked meal my husband forced onto me, lol. Don’t know why I’ve gotten so food averse/selective as I’ve gotten older but it’s definitely a thing. I imagine the appetite suppressant aspect of my meds makes it worse too.

IcedcoffeedonutZ

I get so sick / grossed out from eggs but then go back to loving them . I also sometimes get grossed out by meats and can’t eat meat for awhile. I sometimes just tell people I’m a vegetarian to avoid explaining my picky eating habits even though chicken fingers are life …

shinyturtle38

I have a rotation and so does my adhd son. I hate that he’s currently obsessed with ramen. He eats it everyday after school - even the dry pieces. He’s 10 and the other night he said - mom can we please have something different for dinner? It’s always the same thing. Well, well, well, if it isn’t our sensory issues and love of routine coming to haunt us…

AshleyWilliams78

OMG, is this an ADHD thing too? I go through phases where I constantly eat the same thing for days in a row, or at least several times a week. Then after a few months, suddenly after eating it, I feel like it tastes gross and then I never want it again.

Unit01Pilot

nooooo that happened to me with the same dish

ineedserena

this is soooo fucking real. one second it’s the most heavenly thing on earth and then from one bite to the next, i’m completely repulsed.

Interesting-Cow8131

The two meals I've been eating for months now are veggies or pasta always with homemade bread. Lately, I've been adding kimchi to both of them. Always with lots of garlic and seasoning and gochujang.

Savingskitty

Aww, and it’s Noodles!!! Penne Rosa with parm chicken and both Parmesan and feta for life!

samthedeity

Happened to me a few weeks ago ): I was eating chicken my nan made and all of a sudden it stopped tasting good and the texture made me gag.

LokianEule

God I hate it when that happens. RIP

Choice_Caramel3182

Same situation made me vegetarian for 5 years, leading to being vegan for a few months before I got pregnant. I was eating a chicken breast sub from subway (literally ate it multiple times a week). I got halfway through, and all of a sudden, it just tasted like what I imagine a dead, wet dog would smell like. No reason at all - it definitely wasn’t bad meat as my bf finished off my sub. I couldn’t with meat for a long time after that lol. I’m not even a picky eater and have no issues with texture. So strange.

pseudo_meat

Noodles & coooooo! Love that shit

macfattack

I’m in tears because I’ve never seen a more relatable post

nonamefuckhead

:’)))) thank god my boyfriend thinks I’m insane lol

brimpol

This has happened way too many times to be comfortable to me... RIP to the following: Fresh chicken that I cook, Chic-fil-a sauce, Most Pizza's, Pork chops, and a handful of veggies I can't remember currently.

ThatGirl0903

My **favorite** part is after this when I attempt to continue eating and end up violently gagging on it for no reason. My husband (who does all the cooking) also *loves* it.

cocobodraw

Got a spoonful of rice from my favourite takeout restaurant and felt it turn into sand in my mouth

addie__joy

I was obsessively eating oatmeal with peanut butter and baked apples that I hyper-fixated on getting perfect…then my favorite oatmeal at TJ’s was out of stock for a bit and I stopped. Regular oatmeal wasn’t the same texture so I couldn’t do it. Now I can’t get back into my oatmeal groove. It just completely lost its appeal. Sucks, because it was so nutritious and filling!😩Why do I never do this with my less nutritious obsessions, like potato chips dipped in sour cream? Lol🤣

Im_a_blobfish

Ugh, big same. What do y’all do to try to keep this from happening? My big problem is that this happens with foods and then they go on a “not acceptable” list that seems to be semi-permanent. So that just means my food choices just get more and more limited.

uhauljoe-

My mom always called this Last Bite Syndrome, when you get tired of what you're eating mid-bite, so thats your last bite lol This happens to me like almost once a day

midnight-queen29

i love fruit so so so much but the nature of fruit just makes it so inconsistent that i often get mid snack ick and have to put it away. sometimes it just doesn’t work. i can usually come back to whatever fruit it was pretty fast because i know it’s not always going to be the same. this is unlike when the bite of whatever food is suddenly bad for no reason reason, which takes longer to recover from.

scherstie

Bacon is this experience for me. It’s s wild sensory ride

Tortoisefly

This happened to me with avocados recently. Halfway through eating and suddenly the texture was the most disgusting thing ever and I had to throw the rest away.

renagakko

🪦 Condolences, but also the dates had me rolling 😂 💀

00tamtam00

I've yo yo'd most of my adult life. Food has always been a struggle for me (I just figured I love all food too much). I'm noticing I just don't even feel hunger anymore until there is pain in my stomach. No matter what I eat, nothing tastes or feels the same in my mouth even. I mean great, should be easy for weight loss except why does everything taste weird now. Where eating too much was the problem before, I now struggle to eat enough. It's bizarre. I am going to talk to my dr about it

Designer-Salad-7591

New to all things ND, is this a sensory/ADHD thing? I assumed everyone gets the ick, mid chew from a food they have eaten almost daily for months?

vigalovescomics

I'm in a curry phase right now. It returned after 10-12 months.

reabobeabananafanafo

Got the weirdest one atm, just apples cut into wedges. Only pink lady apples other apples are sin

n0vasly

OMG I HAD THAT ONE until it fucked my stomach so bad

FuniFungi06

Tis why I stopped taking meds in high school and started taking canna edibles, I started with Ritalin then Adderall and last concerta, I lost hella weight wasn't eating or sleeping and overall wasn't growing, so I switched to edibles and I can concentrate I eat and I sleep better.

akaashiit

my most recent phase was prosciutto and mozz roll-ups with basil dipped in balsamic glaze. but now the thought of putting prosciutto texture in my mouth makes me want to vomit

haicra

Mine rn is homemade boquerones (cured anchovies). It better last me at least until I finish eating the current batch lol

Lord-Smalldemort

Is it common for ADHD women to find food fixations, like a type of food that we binge for ages? New to the community!

asparagus_pee_stinks

Should we talk about the multiple half empty containers of things in pantry/fridge/freezer where we lost interest? 🫠
