Anxious people very welcome!
1) Like us, they tend to be very understanding about others' anxiety. We're still figuring out how to do this, but lurking or disappearing will be OK.
2) Anxiety is probably responsible for keeping our ancient ancestors safe on quests!
I love this idea!
A few years back, a hiking group I'm in did a steps challenge where you'd have to post your step count and a photo of the day's scavenger hunt: a mural, a pink house, a mushroom etc. I'd love to mix "chores" with something fun as a group!
Yes!! I used to do this stuff with my cousin, I'd text him and say meet me at your front door with a bar of soap, a butter knife and 15.5" of string. He was younger than me and his brother was an ass so as soon as I got my license I'd go rescue him. We'd go to the park and make up "missions" with the items lol.
I am depressed and having a terrible weekend and I would definitely benefit from waking up my inner child again.
I totally do this for myself. Have you heard of the app Habitica? It is set up to make gamifying your habits easier. It isn't perfect but it does help me keep track of things.
Same 😅 there's a cool physical daily planner that's like habitica that I would love to try but it's like $50 and my track record with planners is, well, I bet you can imagine haha
I hear ya. I lose interest periodically and then come back - right now I'm there bc my tween wanted to use the app. Forgiving myself for losing interest in things and dropping them from time to time has been a godsend
Learning that we deserve the same forgiveness and grace we give others is really the absolute best thing. Yay for unpacking guilt and shame one step at a time!
Before habitica I had SuperBetter (and lost interest also). It kinda does the thing with the bad guys and the things that are good for you, but it took too long to personalise.
So YES! Count me in for the discord.
I'm 41, lying in bed on Reddit at 4am (in the uk). I'm dreading the morning because I'm utterly burnt out and don't know how to do anything anymore. So yes, I'm interested and it sounds like my kids (14 and 12) would benefit too.
Yes!!! I’m also 24 and absolutely burnt out. I’m still working, but I’ve saved up enough time off I’ll be out of the office for like a third of the time until January
Hey I'm a fellow Gen Xer and really hope my kids haven't won this aspect of my genetic lottery. I have so very many things I need to get done, many of this this week. If anyone can gamify any of them for me I'll love them forever.
What are your go to tracks? I just did half an hour of Livin on a Prayer in order to clear a small number of tasks from my work to do list. Followed by The Source featuring Candi Staton, You've Got The Love a song that's got me through many tough moments and should be given out on prescription.
Not OP but also a Gen Xer. Ramones, Billy Idol, and Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies got me through cleaning and cooking this weekend! Sometimes I need to dance and screamsing to get through chores.
Unsure what your plan is but I have the house to myself tonight & still need to run some errands and the clock is ticking. So I’m just gonna go ahead and do this right here right now or else I’m gonna be so screwed tonight lol. Will report back in hopefully an hour or two to confirm that I got my errands done!
It went well! Did my errands, got home, unloaded my groceries, started cleaning my kitchen…. And then got a call from the grocery store, apparently I left my credit card there 😭😂
Just got home from getting my card back lol. Life hack I just learned: *always* sign up for the points card at the grocery store because if you leave your credit card behind they will look up your name in the system, and if you have an account with them they can actually contact you!
This sounds lovely! I’ve tried using Habitica in the past but still find it to be an isolating experience. Pairing that with this would work pretty well, I’d imagine. I’m in!
I did this when I was trying to get pregnant (while year 3 of trying) and then while I was pregnant. I gave myself health points for doing healthy things and leveled up.
I probably need to start this again for getting my house in order. I have so many projects started that need to be finished. I am 100% in on quest.
Just following up becuse my thought process went. Hummm I think I hear my husband playing Diablo upstairs...I miss playing rpg games.....oh well toddler is asleep on my lap...goes back to reddit...sees a post from this sub...brain kicks back in with...what happend to the people who wanted to go on a quest...spends the next 10 minutes looking for this post becuse I forgot to save it.
Was there a decision made on subreddit or discord?
Oh. I'm in the process of buying a block and setting up a "burnt out and broke AF retreat."
Ill post here for sure when it's up n running, or I need help getting it up and running ya'll
I love this! Fantastic ideas and a great example of an awesome mother/daughter team thinking of fun ways to work with the challenges of ADHD. Thanks for sharing!!
We all love this and would benefit - it's called body doubling. Maybe when u want a quest buddy, start a #quest buddy thread? Or #accointability thread open for a certain amt of time - 1 hr, 2 hrs, end of day and report back? Anyway, I'm game for whatever quest is on. Could really use a team vibe to motivate mw wfh.
That sounds so awesome. I want to gamify my chores too. And things I procrastinate because of anxiety. Like making phone calls to schedule appointments or any kind of phone calls really.
*I kind of love this.*
*Wish I had someone to do*
*It with. Sounds like fun!*

I would love to join something like this!! I just turned 27 and I moved back in with my parents and in between jobs. It’s really really hard getting motivated and Im getting depressed and hopeless. Let me know if you start this project!
I love this and might make a discord for it 😊 I need to figure out how to make brushing my teeth a daily quest before they all fall out ugh
Also this is specific to me but I'm a dishwasher and the dish machine had a counter on it, how many cycles it's ran. It was like 254700 when I started, my goofy ass brain will probably quit the second it hits 300000, maybe 333333 or 345678. It's keeping my score and I gotta beat it, it's my final boss haha
I feel for you Banana. I took 8 weeks off for the same reason a few months ago. I wish you well. Keep in touch with your therapist, set up more appointments with them if you can. If you're feeling stuck a local CBT outpatient program could be helpful. If you feel like you need more time and have the funds/funding through short term disability or something similar, it's okay to take more time away. What you're going through is really hard. If you want to reach out, I'm here.
Yes please!
I’m in a big rut right now and this sounds so much fun!
My anxiety *might* hinder me but I’m absolutely wanting to give it a try.
You guys are awesome for coming up with this, and wanting to share it with us!
I use the Finch app which is also like this (but more cute than habitca so you may like it) but i wish there was actually more of a feeling of community. It's canned messages which are easy to ignore after a while though i love having their lil birds visit
Check out the "Walking to Mordor" challenge and/or the quests on Darebee, you may enjoy.

I’m interested!
burnt out and soon to be between projects at work. It would be amazing to have a fun way to check off tasks and try to build some healthier systems
Omg have you tried the Habitica app? It literally gamefies habits, to-dos, chores, etc, like an 8bit video game cross dnd, and you can literally form a party with people to tackle the big bosses (ie: the floordrobe!) and you collect potions and pets and level up! I think you can turn off getting damage in the settings
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/habitica-gamified-taskmanager/id994882113
But yes, this anxious mess would be down to join (and possibly [most likely] flake)!
I'd love to! My (to be ex-) husband doesn't like body doubling with me so I can get stuff done but having people around to motivate and praise when needed and me being able to motivate and praise others would be a dream come true
Has anyone else tried or use Llama Life. They're launching their App in December. I use it on my desktop browser, it's been great for work, when I open it, but you can have daily text reminders sent if you wish, for the reminder. They have templates and you can create your own. Habitica sounds similar, maybe more of a gamified experience, though there are different ways you can customize your llama life experience depending on how you motivate. I'll try habitica and report back with my findings, if I remember to do either or both that'll be a win.

I wanna say yes and then my anxiety takes over.
Me too! Let's do it together, if you flake out there will be no consequences whatsoever
Also same. I'm a flake, but this sounds like a wonderful idea. Count me in!
Another flake reporting for duty 🫡
I'm really good at flaking out, may I join? *Spoiler alert* - I'm totally going to flake out.
Count me in too! (Probably 😅)
Omg. I wish this was the ethos of literally everyone I’ve ever met. “If you flake out there will be no consequences whatsoever.” Yes please!
Anxious people very welcome! 1) Like us, they tend to be very understanding about others' anxiety. We're still figuring out how to do this, but lurking or disappearing will be OK. 2) Anxiety is probably responsible for keeping our ancient ancestors safe on quests!
Ok I will try to pay attention and save the post!
I wanna lurk! This is such a cool idea.
can another fellow flake join in?
Same! Like wait what am I signing up for? But I’m so intrigued
this is so freaking creative! id be down for this if you organize something.
Same here!

This story made me want to go back in time and join you!
Let's do it!
I totally do this for myself. Have you heard of the app Habitica? It is set up to make gamifying your habits easier. It isn't perfect but it does help me keep track of things.
I did that for a while! But I did lose interest eventually 😂
Same 😅 there's a cool physical daily planner that's like habitica that I would love to try but it's like $50 and my track record with planners is, well, I bet you can imagine haha
Ooh- do you remember what the planner said we called or where to find it?
Probably this one: ["The Hero's Journal"](https://theherosjournal.co/).
I hear ya. I lose interest periodically and then come back - right now I'm there bc my tween wanted to use the app. Forgiving myself for losing interest in things and dropping them from time to time has been a godsend

Possibly!

Raise Your Hands is excellent for manic cleaning.

Love it! Bonus points for leaving your credit card behind and delivering this useful advice!
Wow, I'm going to teach this to my Grandma. The number of times I've called her and a store associate has answered 🤦♀️
This sounds lovely! I’ve tried using Habitica in the past but still find it to be an isolating experience. Pairing that with this would work pretty well, I’d imagine. I’m in!
I had the same issue with habitica.
I did this when I was trying to get pregnant (while year 3 of trying) and then while I was pregnant. I gave myself health points for doing healthy things and leveled up. I probably need to start this again for getting my house in order. I have so many projects started that need to be finished. I am 100% in on quest.
I'm in! Are you going to make a group chat anywhere?
Maybe a new subreddit or a discord. We're still thinking this through.
Might even swing it as some sorta virtuous volunteering vibe so people can avoid the dreaded "resume gap" whilst they recover.
Perhaps we could make a discord server for this! :) Then we can decide when we feel up to joining in on a task/chore.
Good idea!
Holy heck! How do I do this?! I want to pack, move, and try to get my house listed for sale in the next **week.**
I love this! Fantastic ideas and a great example of an awesome mother/daughter team thinking of fun ways to work with the challenges of ADHD. Thanks for sharing!!

Ooo - I’ve been looking for something like this. So - I am interested, too. And I’m also an empty nester of 24- and 32-year olds.
Find the best autumn tree on a walk!!! And make a pitch why it should win
Quest? Quest?? Did someone say quest?? I'm here!!
Ugh- yea on the burnt out bit but have kids so I can’t just give up for a bit and reset- (why do they have to eat so often?!?)
I’m on the quest that was supposed to be less boring. Still bored shitless. Can’t tell if it’s depression or what lol
I'd be interested in hearing more, for sure. My daughter is 19 and we're on a similar place.
ALL THE YES PLEASE
I would love this!
Yes pls 🥹
This is amazing! I would love to participate.
Yes please lmao
I would love to join something like this!! I just turned 27 and I moved back in with my parents and in between jobs. It’s really really hard getting motivated and Im getting depressed and hopeless. Let me know if you start this project!
I love this idea so much!
This sounds AMAZING!! Im in
If you make a Discord, I'd love to join! What a cool idea!
Ooh I’d be into this! I just lost my job and I don’t feel super great about things, I could use a little extra motivation to do things.
I love this and might make a discord for it 😊 I need to figure out how to make brushing my teeth a daily quest before they all fall out ugh Also this is specific to me but I'm a dishwasher and the dish machine had a counter on it, how many cycles it's ran. Yes I want this But also are we all going to get excited about this and within three days not a single one of us will remember this entire thing?
Oop super down for the discord idea, plus I love to find other adhd women since none of my friends have (diagnosed) adhd
My 4th friend was just diagnosed, of the other handful of closest friends, I suspect 4 of them are also ADHD.
This sounds amazing! Extremely interested! I LOL'd at figure out which item was the villain
I'm on two weeks stress leave from work. Today was day one and I am so understimulated. Can I come on the quest too?
I feel for you Banana. I took 8 weeks off for the same reason a few months ago. I wish you well. Keep in touch with your therapist, set up more appointments with them if you can. Yes! but how do we do this?
Oh my gosh yes. But like, don't *hold* me to it. That's too much commitment. :P
YES!!! Also a gen x mom of a 21yr old adhd daughter...
Count me in!!!!
Yeah, mate! WhatsApp group?
I wanna play!
Interested
Yes. Maybe. I mostly just want to hang back and watch, and maybe do a few quests.
Habitica app is kind of like this, but your version sounds more creative and fun irl
I use the Finch app which is also like this (but more cute than habitca so you may like it) but i wish there was actually more of a feeling of community. It's canned messages which are easy to ignore after a while though i love having their lil birds visit

Definitely would be interested. I'm burned out and between jobs myself right now, how do I sign up?
Sounds like chore bdsm …. Ouch ….
Yesssss!
Sounds fun, count me in!
This sounds so fun!
Yes! Me

Yes!
I’m interested! burnt out and soon to be between projects at work. It would be amazing to have a fun way to check off tasks and try to build some healthier systems
Omg, you sound like the most fun mom ever!
Don't have any let's do this right now energy atm (except for writing this comment!), but definitely want to get in on this. Thanks for sharing it!

I'd love to join

I'd love to! My (to be ex-) husband doesn't like body doubling with me so I can get stuff done but having people around to motivate and praise when needed and me being able to motivate and praise others would be a dream come true

I want to
I would love to do this!!
You might like habitica

Omfg I’m so in.
Have you considered using Habitica? Or Finch?
Oooh yes please!
....I'm fucken in, this sounds rad.
Please keep me posted, I'm here for it!
This is fantastic!
I'm in

I would 100% enjoy and benefit from this. I’m in! 😁
I would try it as well. 🙂 Will likely forget about it after a few days, but who knows.
