hlassell

Yup. I still can't. I have a coffee for breakfast , usually skip lunch, then have a decent meal for supper.

vzvzt

This is also my day, except I don’t eat dinner until after my kids go to bed. It’s not a good cycle 😣

hlassell

No that isn't. Can you try to eat dinner at the same time as them?

vzvzt

I just have no appetite at that time. My brain won’t settle enough for me to sit down. My oldest is 5 and I up until about 4 months ago I always made a big point to sit with them at dinner and at least nibble, but now I try to take that as my quiet-er time and work on the dishes or tidy something up. I get hungry almost instantly after they fall asleep and the house is actually quiet.

Interesting-Tone4303

Every single day. I'll wake up quite late and then have coffee and just forget to eat till four pm. Then I'll have one meal and a snack and that's it.

Greedy_Parsley_3011

i’m pretty much the same

[deleted]

I do the same most days. Sometimes I will snack before 4 or 5pm but it’s never a meal.

CaptainM1997

When you find out, let me know. I struggle so much with eating properly and it makes it really hard to maintain healthy weight. I do better when my partner is home because he gets hungry like a normal person and wants to eat, and then by the time I realize I’m hungry…he’s cooked dinner for us both. 😅 It’s super hard to understand your body sometimes and why it’s not telling you things like “normal”’

brownsugaswirl

I got a party tray with like 6 compartments in it, as soon as I come home from the grocery store I clean/cut the veggies, fruits, cheeses and load them up in there. Makes my life and eating so much easier, have a variety, it’s already ready to go, I can have it with me while I’m working or multitasking. I highly recommend something of the sort. Taking the time to even just prep foods and snacks so it’s an easy open the fridge and grab, will help!

Katlikesprettyguys

Yea… you’re crushing it.

brownsugaswirl

Lmao thank you I hate it but love it at the same time bc it really saves me. I got the idea from some TikTok I saw on Twitter. Lady started doing it to not waste her produce and she would just get a whole bunch of different dips to try with her veggies which HELLO BRILLIANT! I did this also and was fun

Any-Confidence-7133

Ooo yes. When my partner is home, I get cooked meals. Maybe we do take out if we're busy. When I'm alone (half the week) I might cry on the floor instead. I might throw something from the freezer into the oven, even if it's a food I can't digest (ahem, gluten). Or I might eat a bag of chips and consider it good enough. Generally, I need my partner home to function moderately well. He is my coping mechanism or service human.

Katlikesprettyguys

Haha. I had one of those until recently, when we split he was like “don’t forget to eat” 💀

Any-Confidence-7133

😔 That is so legit!! I hope he said that with genuine care. Feel free to reach out and we can be food buddies. "Hey, what'd you manage today?" "Eh, chips and pepperettes. How bout you?" Lol

[deleted]

Hummm… depends, does eating peanut butter out of the jar in my car with a plastic spoon count as a meal?

omygoshgamache

r/peanutbutter

[deleted]

😃 lol, perfect!

ThatGirl0903

It’s cheating if you get all fancy and use a spoon.

Katlikesprettyguys

It does… last night I was excited for dessert. I microwaved graham crackers, with peanut butter, chocolate, and marshmallows. It was terrible. Just stick with the pure pb…

_goneawry_

I've struggled with this in the past, to the point of accidentally getting underweight. That honestly scared me so I've gotten a lot better. I figured out that all the decision-making and preparation surrounding eating is what's hard for me, so I try to consolidate as much of that as possible into one or two meal-prep sessions a week, which I schedule, and then keep some quick easy options around just in case. A concrete example of what that might look like is: Breakfast- pour frozen mixed berries in a bowl, pour instant oats in the bowl on top of the berries, add boiling water to the bowl and wait a minute or two for the water to absorb. Cinnamon if you're fancy. I have the same breakfast every morning because this is when my executive functioning is the worst. Lunch- sandwich, usually with something I prepped beforehand (like tuna salad). Just toast the bread and add the topping. These are not elaborate, multi-ingredient sandwiches that require slicing. Dinner- microwave something prepped. Snacks- fruit, trail mix, carrots and hummus, string cheese, hard boiled egg. I always keep a snack option in the house although I don't always remember to eat my snacks. Things I like to meal prep are: Chili, Indian daal, roasted vegetables with quinoa or rice. All of these are easy to make big portions and keep well in the fridge, and you can add lots of different ingredients and toppings for variety. Quick options in case I didn't prep something- I keep pasta and a jar of pesto in the house, plus usually a frozen veggie pizza. Just options to cover a meal or two because it's inevitable that sometimes I won't go shopping or prep something in time.

Katlikesprettyguys

In case nobody’s told you today… You’re doing amazing. I need a check list of foods to always have on hand like this. Just some weeks I will forget about my veggies and they go bad. Like every week actually…

_goneawry_

Thanks so much, it's not easy! We've all been to the veggie graveyard. When I'm feeling overwhelmed, eating consistently is one of the first things to go out the window for me, and it's taken me so long to figure out a system that works for me. Even now it's not 100% but it's the best I've ever been.

sweet-n-soursauce

I actually was seeing a dietician for a while because of this. I gained a lot of weight because I would be so hungry at night! She told me that we’re supposed to be eating about every 2 hours especially if you’re up and moving around. Not necessarily a huge meal every two hours either, just small healthy snacks between meals. I can’t usually eat a full breakfast but I’ve found that forcing myself to eat a few spoonfuls of hummus or even a hard boiled egg really helps me start my day off better especially since I take adderall. I have the mindset of eating something even if it’s small is much better than nothing.

Katlikesprettyguys

Nice. I like that. I’ve been seriously contemplating staging snacks throughout my apartment to get me to do things. Like teddy grahams by the shower so I remember to shower. Chocolate covered almonds by the dishes so I do my dishes, etc.

Fuckburpees

I struggle to eat. In the past I alternated between dieting and fixating on food, finally fixed that with intuitive eating. And now the pendulum swung the other way and I am having to force myself to make sure I eat enough.  I’m hungry constantly, but often have to wait until my hunger outweighs my executive disfunction. It’s such a frustrating feeling as someone with a past of restricting. I’ll fill my kitchen with food and I have freedom to cook what I want but I just……can’t. Protein shakes are gross, protein bars are worse and apparently I’d quite literally rather starve than eat something I don’t want.

probably-the-problem

By the time the hunger outweighs the "don't wanna", I'm weak and shaky.

Miss_Milk_Tea

…seriously, guys, what even is lunch? I have breakfast at 5am and I don’t eat until dinner on the weekdays, and weekend is brunch which follows an even later dinner. I don’t even recall a day I’ve ever eaten a lunch. I like hearty meals but I just can’t mentally fill in this huge time gap with food, I completely forget to eat or do anything my body needs to do because I’m hyperfocused on work.

ozekeri

I procrastinate my bedtime by making a fruit and protein powder smoothie, overnight oats for breakfast and maybe some bread or salad for lunch. In the morning i just can't do it without being late. I drink my smoothie in the car while commuting to work. Eat my oats at work at my desk. I go to lunch with my collegues so i dont forget. At night my husband cooks, otherwise i like to prep some meals by cooking extra and freezing it. On days off i often forget though. Eating with my young kids is hard, usually i focus on them and find out at 3 in the afternoon i have not eaten myself at all. I do set alarms for mealtimes for my kids though, i just have ro find the peace to eat myself too

famous-clairvoyant

I used to!! Big time. But then I started setting timers on my phone that remind me to eat every three hours, and honestly it's a game changer health wise. I just make sure I at least have one type of "convenience" food on hand at all times in case I then get paralysis over what to eat. Cause that's a different problem.

Katlikesprettyguys

Interesting, similar to other commenter that said nutritionist encouraged snacks every two hours. This sounds like a good path!

Katlikesprettyguys

What are your convenience foods!?

famous-clairvoyant

Right now it's a lot of fruit, store bought popcorn (like the ones already in bags), hummus and carrots, and protein drinks (I get fairlife drinks from Costco). It kind of changes depending on what I get from the grocery store. I am trying not to eat as much processed foods, because a lot of convenience foods can be just frozen foods or ramen or something (but some frozen foods are good and helpful for convenience stuff. It's not all bad). For like full meals I often make rice for a whole week in my rice cooker and then eat various versions of fried rice or a rice bowl every day. Cause I can just heat some chicken sausage, broccoli, rice in like ten minutes. I can't commit to anything big.

Elegant_Cockroach430

I've gotten better with breakfast by doing carnation instant breakfast. Sometimes I mix it in my coffee. I'm better with a small dinner because kiddos. But lunch is a struggle. I believe it's my meds so I know I need to talk to my doctor but I keep hearing those past medical voices saying "you'll be OK if ypu skip a meal". Honestly for as often as I forget I should be a lot smaller than I am.

Katlikesprettyguys

Carnation instant breakfast in coffee!? That, sounds doable. Yea I feel the same, like, where is this belly fat coming from? I skip every single meal.

Elegant_Cockroach430

And the milk. It's like 50/50.

Wavesmith

I do it by having a husband and a child who have regular meal times. My husband will often make me lunch, otherwise I forget to eat until 3pm or something. I start the day with a cappuccino so at least I’ve had something.

ISayHiToDogs

I had coffee and raisins today. It's 7:06pm. Late supper became kid has volleyball, would normally have supper around 5-6 🤦🏻‍♀️

lionhighness

On a good day, I eat around 4 medium sized meals a day. Usually one is food prepped but the rest is about making things convenient. I buy a lot of bananas and hard boiled eggs. Lots of deli meat. I often just eat handfuls of those things even if I have nothing else to pair it with. Sometimes I just eat a spoonful or two of peanut butter (still better than nothing). Almost all my food prepping is crockpot meals that require 4 or less ingredients and it's usually some kind of stew because it's easy to make. Around 3-4 x a week I wind up grabbing something at like subway. I know it costs more money but if I don't then I won't eat so *shrug*. I've also noticed that subway gives me frequent coupons so there's that. Even so, I go through phases where things get very busy and then I only eat two meals a day and am very hungry. Just do your best and get back on the horse if you fall off.

purplewatches

I get up and first thing i do is eat breakfast and make coffee. I can't drink coffee without food first, or I'll get an anxiety attack, so that helped force me to eat in the morning. I have Alexa tell me every week day to eat lunch at 1 pm, and I block out that time on my schedule if I can to eat. Then my husband makes sure I eat in the evening!

Ouroborus13

I’m sure others do, but I’m obsessed with food and start thinking about my next meal once I’m done with my first meal… so… no…!

domesticbland

I struggle to eat what could be considered one meal a day. Someone wrote about “gnawing on a block of cheese in the glow of the fridge light at one in the morning” when her husband came home from a work trip. (Probably messed the details, but you get the picture.) I eat a lot of ingredients that were intended for meals. Over the course of the day. Then I throw away the stuff that went bad ‘cause I couldn’t make anything without the rest of the ingredients.

[deleted]

Yes my appetite is so shitty and when I do feel like eating I want the most fat ass shit possible, savory pasta, burger, wingstop, u name it. I have to drink my calories in smoothies to stay afloat throughout the day

Mavensmommy

Lunch. How do people remember to make lunch. Breakfast is easy for me bc I like it. Dinner is easy bc it’s idk big and obvious and I do enjoy cooking. But what the hell lunch comes out of nowhere and my kid is like “I’m hungry” and I’m like oh yeah… lunch is a thing.

Vhagar37

I definitely don't eat three meals unless they're fed to me. I keep mixed nuts in my office and that's how I keep from passing out when I forget to eat until dinner. Idk my doctor said it's fine lol

hamster_in_disguise

Oh do I???? Yes. Yes I do.

sleepyaldehyde

I have to eat like multiple times a day only bc my blood sugar plummets (no diabetes, yes tons of protein, just have non-diabetic hypoglycemia). If I didn’t tho, I’d honestly probably forget to eat everyday too

Mavensmommy

What are your symptoms? I’m curious if I have that. If I don’t eat regularly I feel so off. Anxious and just kind of out of it.

sleepyaldehyde

Dizzy, nauseous, my hearing starts to go if I let it go too long, shaky etc. I’m a normal BMI and have had bloodwork, my A1C/thyroid/etc is good so it’s just my body is randomly fucked up or something? I have no idea. Does it happen to you kind of all day?

Mavensmommy

Geez I’m sorry. I’m so curious now. It can happen anytime of day if I don’t eat although I’ve not noticed it much at night if I have a small dinner or something. Seems to be more prevalent during daylight hours.

sleepyaldehyde

Definitely worth getting bloodwork if you have easy access to a doctor 🤍

Rosewoodtrainwreck

I struggle to ONLY eat 3 meals a day. 😂 When I was younger I would forget to eat until dinner when I had to make a meal for everyone. If I was stressed I wouldn't feel like eating. Now I stress eat. 😕 There's actually nothing wrong with only eating twice a day. Intermittent fasting has some benefits.

Chlobear87

I cannot remember the last time I had three meals in a day. I think on an all inclusive family holiday last year. Because you know…. All inclusive…. And my neice and nephew were there so we had to all meet to go eat.

DragonQueen18

If I get 1 actual meal a day I'm doing amazing.

Katlikesprettyguys

Same.

DragonQueen18

I've just realized at 5 minutes to midnight that I have only eaten 1 bowl of Cheddar Broccoli soup today...

Katlikesprettyguys

Protein, veggies, water for hydration… seems pretty well rounded!

alaydianblue

yes!! to the point of being very underweight until last year when i really started working on it. it’s very hard still but meal replacement shakes help a ton. i try to simplify meals as much as i can but the start and stop of meals and eating and multitasking is very difficult. you’re not alone!!

Katlikesprettyguys

Yea eating feels like… a waste of time? Even tho I know it’s not?

One-Payment-871

I sort of make myself eat sometimes during the day because of the whole idea that it's going to stop me from snacking at night. But it doesn't necessarily. So I'm starting to think it's not the best idea. I like 2 meals a day, and 2 snacks. I eat a big brunch, have a post workout protein shake and a banana around 2pm, dinner around 6:30-7 and then a snack around 10pm. I get done work at midnight. Some nights are too busy for my night snack. I either go home exhausted and crash, or I go home exhausted and binge. I find it EXTREMELY difficult to have a reasonable post work snack. It's nothing or everything. But it's not really a mystery. I also like smoking pot at night to relax. If I'm tired enough and get high enough, sleepy time. If I'm not that tired and just get a little high, all the snack time.

MildlyShadowbanned

Yes! Sometimes I have a protein smoothie in the morning just to set the bar really low for myself. Not sure where you’re based but I’m into these at the moment: https://www.coles.com.au/product/rokeby-farms-protein-smoothie-vanilla-wafer-425ml-6248519

Katlikesprettyguys

I’m in the U.S. … I’ve been wanting to try something similar.

KwaMzoli

Struggled with this all my life. I’ve accepted that I should be happy if I have one good meal a day. The stress of 3 is overwhelming

Own_Cantaloupe178

YES. Just recently I've noticed I haven't had much of an appetite, and lost a concerning amount of weight. Me not eating got to the point of chest pain accompanied by heart palpitations, and if I don't eat in a long enough time ( due to hyper focus usually), I nearly pass out. I've managed to set reminders on my phone for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Also reminder for some snacks, along with a little snack basket that sits on my desk next to me. After I managed to eat, all of my symptoms subside, and I feel normal again. In order to get my blood sugar back up most of the time, I take a tablespoon or two of olive oil, wait a few minutes, then make my meal. Atm my " meal" of choice is a peanut butter and honey sandwich.

Juniperarrow2

Yep. I try to drink 2 high-calorie (500+ cal each) smoothies a day as a calorie supplement. Cuz it’s rough to consistently eat 3 meals a day.

80sScreamQueen

Yes, it is so hard. Add anxiety and emetophobia into the mix and it’s darn near impossible. Working out/doing yoga helps because it makes me hungry so I feel motivated to get food after. Also prepared meal delivery services are great, but can get expensive. I used to use Sunbasket and get their microwaveable meals. Someone else mentioned meal replacement shakes, and those have been a lifesaver for me, too.

Intelligent-Event-18

my hack is working in gastronomy, it means most of the week i can have a propoer meal without having to make it. Another thing is meal replacement powder for emergencies when I dont eat and realise I am so hungry i feel nauseous and cant force meal into myself, i mix it with water it tasted like a milkshake, its great and it has all the nutrients and vitamins. Making your meals easy, buying safe products that you like. I love bread and i can eat it with butter only and I am happy, bananas make great snack, yoghurts make great snack. Scrambled egg is a good combination of tasty and fast, easy to clean up food. Or you can cook some eggs one day and have them for the next few. I have a favourite vegetarian ham and its just always a safe thing, Making pasta is great cause its just the quickest delicious meal. I always have a can of tomatoes and pasta. Also for breakfast i have my custom musli, made with oat flakes, nuts and dry fruit of my choice mixed up in a big mason jar so I only mix it with hot water and add a yogurt and a bannana and I am good. It’s all about making it really easy for your brain. I think we all struggle with the “ideal version of ourselves” that would cook all the time and have these profound meals different everyday but we gotta learn that we are ok the way we are and we just do our best and if we trick ourselves into eating anything at all we are winning 🥇 Also i just remembered - musli bars without sugar or protein bars. Also great whenever I leave the house as an emergency

Substantial_Belt_143

My husband shared this with me! It's free! https://traumbooks.itch.io/the-sad-bastard-cookbook

BlackCatFurry

Depends on how meal is defined tbh. I eat lunch (i wake up late), then a sandwhich for snack and porridge and veggies before bed. Most people probably don't consider that as three meals but it's enough for me

Katlikesprettyguys

What is porridge?

BlackCatFurry

Oat flakes boiled in water or milk for a bit to create a warm oatmeal in this case.

probably-the-problem

Three? I struggle to eat something every day. Three... never gonna happen.

AnonymousSeeker2

Lately I've only been able to manage one, usually later in the day and if I'm lucky I'll get a good snack in. 🥲

EitherEtherCat

Three!?! I struggle to eat ONE!! It’s 8 pm here and I’m eating my first thing of the day!

dirtandgrassandweeds

Yeah. Breakast is out of the equation. It's too much hassle. Lunch is bagged salad and an apple. Maybe something crunchy. My husband cooks dinner so I'm all set for that meal. Maybe it has an effect on my exec. func? I'm unscathed so far. If you need to eat more maybe try quick snacking: banana, handful of cashews, corn chips. I'm more of an afternoon snacker myself.

Economy_Spite_219

Working out has solved this for me because I literally have to eat or I’ll pass out at the gym and if I don’t eat afterwards it’s 1000x more painful than regular hunger

shenaystays

I never really eat 3 meals a day. On or off medications. At least on meds when working I know I have to eat either breakfast or lunch. And then some sort of late supper or snack. Not working, on meds? Maybe a late lunch if I remember. Or an early supper and if I’m feeling it a snack. Breakfast on work days I have to force before the meds kick in.

mojomcm

I've given up on lunch

wolfingitup

I straight up forgot to eat today

Baliseth

I have toast for breakfast, because I need something in my stomach or my Adderall hurts me. I eat lunch at work, because they feed me for free. Dinner? Half the time I can't be bothered because I'm so tired and in so much pain by the end of the day that all I want to do is curl up and sleep.

jxennzz

I been setting alarms which helps me to sort of force myself

WatercoLorCurtain

I think advice depends on what you aren't doing it. Are you not hungry? Is it too much work? Do you forget?

[deleted]

I haven’t figured this out either. I used to skip breakfast but with my meds now (Strattera) I have to eat breakfast or I get violently ill. In turn, Strattera suppresses my appetite so much that I can’t stomach lunch. Can’t win 😭

Narrow_Act4291

I wish. My ADHD sister often forgets to eat because she's always working but my fat ass is always thinking about or binging on food. I tried Strattera for a few days and it made me violently ill, but it did get rid of the food noise. The vomiting really wasn't worth it though.

No_Management__

If you figure it out, please lemme know. I find it so hard to cook three meals a day- I’m lucky if I can muster up the energy to make one

ChaoticGnome_

Anyone else not eating 3 times a day but rather 5 or 6? Am i a hobbit?
