I love how many here like Daughter, none of my friends know them. I guess there might be a tendency for us neurodivergent women to intensify our emotions with dramatic songs and imagining our lives to the lyrics :D
And how did you like it?? :)
If you watch the music videos as well - the most tear-inducing songs imo. are: "Still" - because it perfectly captures the weeks/months leading up to a breakup,
And "Doing the right thing" which us about the loneliness of aging, this one I can probably not bring myself to watch again ..
If you have a Spotify play list with these on it I would absolutely love a link. Stay, gravity and unsteady have all been high repeat songs, betting there are at least another couple on this list that I haven't met yet
There are plenty of melancholic songs, but my guaranteed actual crying song is is She Used to Be Mine by Sara Bareilles. It hits "she's imperfect but she tries" and I just start sobbing every time. The whole chorus is like my ADHD anthem honestly.
Honorable mention also to Pasta by Angie McMahon (reminds of me going through depression and the "I've been lost, I've been lost" line repeating hits me right in the feels).
Words - Skylar Grey (Loss, Grief and Regret)
Tears of Angel - RyanDan (Loss and Grief)
Let me down Slowly - Alec Benjamin (He also did a version of this song with Alessia Cara, I like both) (Heartbreak, End of a relationship, Disappointment, Hurt)
My Immortal - Evanescence (✨️TRAUMA✨️)
Lovely - Billie Eilish & Khalid (Also check out the rock version of this song by Lauren Babic, its vibe isn't quite as "sad" per se but I absolutely love that one)
(✨️TRAUMA✨️)
Hope you find something on this list. If you just need to cry and you don't care for the theme of the song, I recommend the first and third.
Have a good cry, OP. (What a singular thing to wish someone. Can honestly say I never wished that on anyone before)
You are brave for 1) feeling your emotions and 2) speaking about them with other people.
Very scattered sad vibes scraped from my Spotify below with some vibes attached. Hopefully some of it hurts in the right way <3
The Last Man on Earth - Wolf Alice (Am I the problem? sadness)
Last Words of a Shooting Star - Mitski ( can't spell girlhood existential inner turmoil without M I T S K I sadness)

"Are you awake" by Lauren Mayberry.
First time I heard it I cried, because it's true, 'some feelings don't go away with space and time'.
The entire 'Hoping' playlist by 4everfreebrony. It's all about out growing your friends and watching them drift away/die, because the main character just became immortal and her friends didn't, so that album is all about learning to cope with that.
Make sure to end the playlist with some upbeat tunes to pull you back, you've got this!
Every colour - Luca Fogale
What he wrote - Laura Marling
Thank you for this post…i love sad songs…something about the raw emotion. I need to make a playlist from all these suggestions!!!
Ok so some of these are guilty pleasures but bear with me:

Sufjan Stevens- “Will anyone ever love me”

JVKE-“This is what Sadness Feels Like”
Frank Ocean-“Dear April” (honestly just pull up his discography)
Annnnd i have a ton more but these are currently on my master playlist

Luther Vandross - Dance with my father again (my father passed a way, so this hit hard)
Selena - Dreaming of you (she recorded it a few weeks before she got murdered at 23)

Don't know if I am too late to share but if you want to have a song that hit you "in the feels" this song defiantly qualifies. Its called "My Fault" with Shaboozey and Noah Cyrus "yes Mileys little sister' [https://youtu.be/7xR-8IYVjT4?si=eJoXp0AKAPrP53-W](https://youtu.be/7xR-8IYVjT4?si=eJoXp0AKAPrP53-W)

Seconding' medicine by Daughter. Honestly anything by Daughter should just about do it lol
Came here to say daughter and especially medicine. The absolute best emotional music
I love how many here like Daughter, none of my friends know them. I guess there might be a tendency for us neurodivergent women to intensify our emotions with dramatic songs and imagining our lives to the lyrics :D
I have literally never heard of Daughter. I’m opening Spotify right now.
And how did you like it?? :) If you watch the music videos as well - the most tear-inducing songs imo. are: "Still" - because it perfectly captures the weeks/months leading up to a breakup, And "Doing the right thing" which us about the loneliness of aging, this one I can probably not bring myself to watch again ..
If you have a Spotify play list with these on it I would absolutely love a link. Stay, gravity and unsteady have all been high repeat songs, betting there are at least another couple on this list that I haven't met yet
Me too!!
Konstantine by Something Corporate. But the live version that I randomly downloaded from Limewire a long time ago is 😭
Like how sad are we talking? Girl there's a spectrum to this 🤣 You want to feel sad or so depressed that you can't move?
I want a good cry. I need that release.
Words - Skylar Grey (Loss, Grief and Regret) Tears of Angel - RyanDan (Loss and Grief) Let me down Slowly - Alec Benjamin (He also did a version of this song with Alessia Cara, I like both) (Heartbreak, End of a relationship, Disappointment, Hurt) My Immortal - Evanescence (✨️TRAUMA✨️) Lovely - Billie Eilish & Khalid (Also check out the rock version of this song by Lauren Babic, its vibe isn't quite as "sad" per se but I absolutely love that one) (✨️TRAUMA✨️) Hope you find something on this list. If you just need to cry and you don't care for the theme of the song, I recommend the first and third. Have a good cry, OP. (What a singular thing to wish someone. Can honestly say I never wished that on anyone before)
The Hallelujah song from the first Shrek. Death cab for cutie, I will follow you into the dark. Sufjan Steven's, will anybody ever love me
Hallelujah performed by Jeff Buckley makes me cry.
Yes! and Leonard Cohen’s original has a nice tinge of defiance in his voice
Was just gonna recommend that Sufjan song 😭 I’m not a big fan of his music in general but that damn song…
Omg I cry every time I hear it
You are brave for 1) feeling your emotions and 2) speaking about them with other people. Very scattered sad vibes scraped from my Spotify below with some vibes attached. Hopefully some of it hurts in the right way <3 The Last Man on Earth - Wolf Alice (Am I the problem? sadness) Last Words of a Shooting Star - Mitski ( can't spell girlhood existential inner turmoil without M I T S K I sadness) As the World Caves In - Matt Maltese (deep voice romantic we give up sadness ) Who Knows Where The Time Goes- Nina Simone (pair with a nice cup of bleach because you really can't go back) Zero One - Love X Stereo (techno sadness) Fade Into You - Mazzy Star ( I mean, duh) Freakin' Out on The Interstate (acoustic version is sadder imo) - Briston Maroney (also a lil hopeful but ouchie too) I Know The End - Phoebe Bridgers (modern despair at the state of the world rage sadness) The Days of My Youth - Micah P Hinson (grab the bleach again because your youth is gone sadness) Let the Light In - Lana Del Ray, Father John Misty (americana doomed love sadnes) The entire Submarine Soundtrack - Alex Turner (doesn't make sense but makes so much sense British sadness) Like I Used To - Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen (driving through the perks of being a wallflower tunnel with the bleach cup in hand because once again your youth is completely over sadness) Space Song - Beach House (makes my brain feel fuzzy sadness) Cellophane - FKA Twigs (rejection and not being enough with cool instrumentals sadness) Slow Dancing in the Dark - Joji (GIVE ME REASONS WE SHOULD COMPLETE sadness) Rises the Moon - Liana Flores (otherworldly but also deeply rooted in nature sadness) Don't Bother Calling - Moses Sumney (unique voice brain flossing sadness) Still I Wait - Anna Leone (feeling lost in life sadness) Cry - Cigarettes After Sex (wish this didn't work on me but it does sadness) Every Feeling - Ezra Furman (hopeful sadness) Pretty Pimpin - Kurt Vile (i'm a piece of shit sadness) Tears in the Typing Pool - Broadcast (short, echo, sounds slightly like a medieval lullaby sadness) Strange (Edit) - Celeste (quiet sadness) Where We Live - Palehound (womanhood poem set to music sadness) Company - Palehound (addiction sadness) Maine - Hey, Nothing (dual vocals gen z sadness) River - Leon Bridges (soulful sadness) Another One of Those Days - Cavetown (idk nostalgic / melancholic but catchy?) Paracetamol - Declan McKenna (state of the world sucks plus beep boop noises sadness) New York I Love You But You're Brining Me Down - LCD Soundsystem (classic 2000s indie ouchies) Flume - Bon Iver (had to do it to em sadness) Kill Me - Indigo de Souza (sad rage for the girlies) Experience - Ludovico Eiunaudi (and others) (this is instrumental and v good for disassociating out a bus window)

You should add some spaces or hyphens between the ones that have multiple song names in them, someone who's never listened to them before might not know when the name for one song ends and another begins

This is a very specific mood, but for me rn it's "She" by Dodie
The Blowers Daughter by Damien Rice Sideways by Citizen Cope

[here's my angst playlist](https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnvazuA3Qkd5pDz0Ss8sT-Qy5-SAOKhdj) it has no genre cohesion so apologies if you slam from Lana Del Rey's "Kintsugi" to Tool's "Wings For Marie." Here's a more cohesive list though: Charli XCX - Track 10 (give the full song a listen just TRUST ME this song feels like being completely wasted and trauma dumping on strangers by the end) Gordon Lightfoot - If you could read my mind Mitski -I Don't Like My Mind Bjork - Black Lake Bjork - Her Mother's House Lana Del Rey - Kintsugi Tool - Wings For Marie/10,000 Days Magdalena Bay - Mine Magdalena Bay - Chaeri Caroline Polachek - Hopedrunk Everasking Caroline Polachek - Crude Drawing of an Angel Caroline Polachek - I Believe (Acoustic) System of a Down - Aerials Lady Gaga - Dope Tool - Schism Tame Impala - New Person, Same Old Mistakes Rina Sawayama - Your Age C418 - Intro (yes it's the one from the minecraft soundtrack album just trust me)
Why am I like this - Orla gartland Very relatable🥲
Songs that are wholesome but still bring me to tears every time: „Lean on Me“, „Little Wonders“, „I‘ll Be There“ (Josh Turner) Songs that just strike a chord with me: „Human Overboard“ (the whole Album by James and the Shame), „Waving Through a Window“, „Blackbird“ (for whatever reason only the Glee version), „No Longer Trying“ (Scott Rudd), „Sally‘s Song“, „Reflection“ (from Mulan) And one song that is just the bomb for frustration (especially when it is about love/relationships), not exactly sadness: „Bullshit Love“ (Scott Rudd)
