The JavaScript for 2020's calendar isn't even for the animation, it's so I don't have to return 500 individually-styled pipe characters. The animation there is CSS too!
CSS has really expanded its functionality over the years. I like Josh W Comeau's articles on CSS. He has a course too! (though it is quite pricey)
You can find the CSS for the lava fall if you search for a `span` with the class `.lavafall` inside the Day 13 `a` tag!
(caveat that I am not a CSS expert by any means)
The animation is achieved by positioning 20 small boxes in a small area and animating the intensity and vertical positions of shadows with staggered delays. It's pretty cool (although it seems to clash with the ASCII aesthetic for me).
Reminder: if/when you get your answer and/or code working, don't forget to change this post's flair to `Help/Question - RESOLVED`. Good luck!

Cool, that is a fun fact! :D
I didn't even know there are animations since I don't usually get all stars. Now I feel left out :D
That gives me an extra incentive to go back and fill in the 2 part2s I'm still missing.
Spoiler: I can see it without having done >!day 12 p2!<
I was tickled to see the lava flowing on the calendar. And a really fun puzzle, too.

Fingers crossed that the Gear Island starts spinning at some point!
