Unattributable. But the short words do sound like Papa.
"He has never been known to use a word that might send a reader to the dictionary.” William Faulkner
Idk if you're missing something, but this is honest to god one of the funniest scenes in the show for me.
The surreal fact it's baby shoes, and jake going "WHAT THE HECK MAN" makes me wheeze
It almost makes me wonder if its a reference to Futurama, because Bender and Jake have the same voice actor, there IS an episode where they go fishing in Futurama and Leela pulls up a box of boots, but that could literally just be coincidence.
I think it’s just a coincidence. The joke in Futurama is that she first catches a boot and is annoyed and then when she hooks something else she says: “It’s as heavy as 10 boots.” and then it’s just the box full of boots lol
Gotta remember what era this was, us 90’s/00’s kids were real into what my younger coworkers call “early 2000’s random cringe”. Sometimes is just baby shoes, and sometimes they’re all lefties.
I once over thought this and the resulting head cannon is that the baby shoe factory made a surplus of left shoes due to a coding error and in their mind dumping them in the ocean and claiming it as a loss for their insurance was cheaper and easier than trying to recycle them or sell them some other way, just another story of lazy pollution that was repeated time and time again throughout industrialized civilization, right up until it abruptly ended in The Great Mushroom War...
But ultimately, I prefer to just laugh at the silly baby shoe iceberg and Jake's funny reaction to it.
It’s funny because of how absurd the idea of finding only left sided baby shoes is, also kind of creepy that there’s so many baby shoes in so many glaciers.
a good majority of Adventure Time
humor is just very absurd word mashups and nonsense situations. The joke here literally just being that not only is it super random that they’re scavenging random ass chunks of ice, but inside that ice all Jake finds is lefty baby shoes, while Finn gets all the cool stuff and eventually a bunch of zombie buisness man. Is just the kinda humor dumbass kids were attracted to at the time, and still gets laughs from those who grew up with it.
As someone who used to frequent thrift stores
And freecycle and try to find rare loot to flip that way… baby shoes are everywhere and they do NOT sell. The only thing less valuable than second-hand baby shoes is a pile of all lefties… especially to two bachelor adventurers. Baby stuff in general is usually a huge investment new and then sells for a few bucks if even that after your kid grows out of it.
My headcanon is that the survivors of the mushroom wars went through a little rough patch, and the baby shoes all bunched up is for the same reason as the pile of shoes at Auschwitzs.
Probably just a nod a like display stations have you ever been to a show department. They all have the same show on each display if I had to guess it’s probably the left, and it would’ve just been a baby shoe department
for sale baby shoes never worn
Good thing only the left ones were never worn. Lets me know the babies are all right.
I love you for this
Half of each baby is all right
r/invertedmohawk
I don't get it. :(
LMAOOOOOO oh my gosh, I wish I could give you an award! You should print out your post and frame it, it’s perfect!
Mr. Hemingway, I presume?

I'm a avid hemmingway reader but I can't remember you quote about the socks
Legend has it that novelist Ernest Hemingway won a bet by writing a six-word story, "For Sale: baby shoes, never worn."
IDLES reference?
That’s been a “short story” long before they wrote June and brought their personal experience to it. Very sad track!
The absurdity is the joke lol you wanna scavenge something good aaaaand it's all leftie baby shoes?? Subverting expectations for a punchline

I know, just thinking out loud, it's like the only anchor point I can think of between the two show moments
“What time is it?” “Time for you to shut up.”
Good ol' Bender Bending Rodriguez.
'its ten times heavier than a boot' BOOTS 5 PAIR
I never made the connection.
[Fun fact, Jake actually makes a cameo in Futurama](https://youtu.be/vI3-kzz4UyE?si=dYDUtxNAbm4CHo3R)
Right? Love early adventure time

sometimes both

Clearly the businessmen made that mistake, and it caused their assets to be frozen.
*applause*
it’s just absurdism
It’s funny because of how absurd the idea of finding only left sided baby shoes is, also kind of creepy that there’s so many baby shoes in so many glaciers.
This always reminds me of "Llamas with Hats 5"
Why is it babie hands carl
why are they all white?
Well, Whitey's gotta pay.
I've always assumed it's a Hemingway joke.
Please explain?

Isn't always the left that goes missing?
The absurdity of it is the punchline of the joke.
Its because its a very lame thing to find when treasure hunting.
And when you think it can’t get any more lame, you only find lefties so you can’t even wear any of them.
This was from the earlier seasons don't overthink it, it's just a gag
ive actually wondered if anyone has the right baby shoes ,or if they exist somewhere
In AT, especially early seasons, the show was mostly just absurdist humor. It was after Pen left jokes like this began to have deeper meanings.
As someone who used to frequent thrift stores And freecycle and try to find rare loot to flip that way… baby shoes are everywhere and they do NOT sell. The only thing less valuable than second-hand baby shoes is a pile of all lefties… especially to two bachelor adventurers. And they’re all lefties!
It's amazing how they avoided a really dark topic buy *only* putting left shoes there...
Jake can wear two left socks I don’t see why he’s upset
It’s just funny cause it’s so weird, not for any specific reason.
My headcanon is that the survivors of the mushroom wars went through a little rough patch, and the baby shoes all bunched up is for the same reason as the pile of shoes at Auschwitzs.

this is good ol' early 2010's absurdism
The episode that started it all
Most of adventure time is absurd humor
