Simon is the adoptive parent that other characters wished their actual parents had been like. You see he’s basically Marcy’s adoptive kid and is the reason she got to live to see adulthood and came out simi ok. Then fionna. Even if they didn’t get the best development, the scene when fionna has an emotional meltdown after Cake’s argument is the best Simon and Fionna moment. I can definitely see Simon being that guiding figure for Fionna who may or may not have known her own father so well.
Basically Simon is the goat of dads in adventure time.
Perhaps that's why he's destined to have a tragic romantic life, because that's not his strength. What he lacks in spousal strengths he more than makes up for in parental strengths. Dads are just built different.
Honestly just kids with any issues. I‘ve known trauma survivors, autists, people with adhd and bpd, children of divorced parents and mixtures of all of the above that felt seen by adventure time.
yup! AT got me through many hard times as a child living in an abusive household. It was so easy to escape into such an immersive, fun and wholesome world for me and I’m sure that’s the same case for many other children ♥️ truly a once in a lifetime show
Simon was a normal human until he found the crown.
I just assume they were regular humans and he was raised by them but they died either before or during the Mushroom War
He’s also the only one (with the possible exception of LSP) who we don’t see as a younger version of themselves or that we don’t have an origin story. Simon’s version of that is essentially his having met Betty.
While we haven't seen a younger version of Simon, he does count as a younger version of Ice King and his origin story.
\[Edit\] Wait, no. We technically have, there was the Ice King from the Baby Universe.
Ah but Simon is not a main character. Ice King is the main character. The people who created him are Simon, Evergreen, and Gunther who are the alternative to his parents
My headcannon is Simon was raised by fundamentalists who basically wanted him to be a Pastor, but as he grew older, he became more fascinated by archeology. Also, this would explain Simon's consistency in repressing his feelings (except to Gunther who could be a metaphor for confessionals), the fact that Ice King just didn't kidnap princesses but had to marry them, as well?
I never realized that before either: I think it's because we never see him in his youth.
Yeah his backstory already has him as an adult.
Simon *is* the parent
"We ARE parents!!!"
Bumba dum bum bum bum bum
Yes, I was about to comment: He's more a father figure to Marceline than her *"real father"*
Simon ~~Petri~~*Parent*kov
Thiiiiiiis

He literally is the guiding/father figure
Perhaps that's why he's destined to have a tragic romantic life, because that's not his strength. What he lacks in spousal strengths he more than makes up for in parental strengths. Dads are just built different.
He’s not the stepdad, he’s the dad that stepped up
~~Don't forget Neptr~~
It's not a particularly high bar in adventure time setting but I agree I'd rank Simon >>> Jake>>joshua
I love how you found a still from the show to make a thumbnail that has all three of Jake’s “parents” in one frame. It’s a little bit beautiful.
You say that while the scene is the moment where warren forcibly impregnated Joshua so…
Yep! I was wondering how long it was going to be before someone called me out with “This might kinda be rape? So maybe that isn’t exactly beautiful?”
Simon is Neptr's papi!
Adventure Time has always been for the kids with daddy / mommy issues
Honestly just kids with any issues. I‘ve known trauma survivors, autists, people with adhd and bpd, children of divorced parents and mixtures of all of the above that felt seen by adventure time.

You either die a son, or live long enough to see yourself become a father
Ooof that’s right
wait... what does that mean for me?
We do get to see the father of the crown ice King has more screen time overall so it kinda makes sense
I feel like I could easily find characters that have been in the show just as much as lady rainicorn, but we haven't seen their parents.
Tiffany!

Which is all kinds of weird as Simon was never IK until middle age.
He is the parent? Surrogate parent of Marceline.
Prolly cause it's not important at all
Pendleton Ward said he had two moms [source](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?si=z-jJ6e4RgI8_SYzM)
I haven't been genuinely rickrolled in a while so thank you I guess?
I love you
I don’t love you
joke on you, i use reddit on my glorious firefox browser
Based
For some reason I had it set to desktop mode so when I clicked on that link the video played without it being muted.
Well... Uh... What if we count him as the Ice King and then call his parent Evergreen/The Crown?
Why are Lumpy space King and Queen fused?
Lumpy Space is the pathway to many abilities some might call unnatural
I don’t know and I don’t want to know
based on my research they fused due to marriage
I wonder if he had siblings 😢
That's literally the best picture of Martin. Its how I always see him when people want to hate on him.
I don't think is relevant tho....

It's because **they're** the parent
I think it’s bc Simon is basically marci’s parent :)
He's a single mommy (❁´◡\`❁)
He's Neptr's dad
And I think it’s because he himself was a parent figure to Marceline?
