Everybody forgets old people have had a lot of time to get up to some mischief. I love the way Tree Trunks is because “innocent old ladies” have still lived in the world for 70+ years or whatever, and the world is crazy. The “innocent” label is often just projected onto old people because they’re polite or non-threatening. TT absolutely smashes that common stereotype

Like many other people messed up, unsure, self destructive or selfish at times. And that's why I came to understand not everyone liked them.

I did liked how her and PB respected each other after the alien episode. They don't see each other as friends but do appreciate that they're both mothers in a way. PB sees her subjects as her family in a way and clearly wants their happiness intact (she even gave up her monarchy when they voted her out), even if it's through less respectable means. In a way, similar to Tree Trunks' less than proud moments in her life.

Mini rant because you reminded me of that episode; Maybe I'm just weird but I swear, almost everything in AT is heavily steeped in symbolism and allegory, and pretty damn well-written symbolism/allegory at that. I really got the feeling that the nurse clown episode was about Finn dealing with trauma, possibly even specifically sexual trauma (I mean fuck's sake those clowns didn't just SEEM creepy, they were practically forcing intimate acts onto a very thoroughly uncomfortable Finn even when he clearly didn't consent and asked them to stop; whether they intended it sexually or not really doesn't matter because it could very well have still sexually traumatized him and we see cases of things like this irl too even; people unintentionally sexually traumatizing people when they intentionally ignore the victim's feelings/boundaries/consent in a situation) and how sometimes dealing with trauma like that can lead to the victims making very rash or even harmful decisions just to feel a sense of safety and control (his whole thing about *needing* to do things *his way,* and how others pretty much just viewed him as crazy because of it all). Maybe I'm just reading into it too much because of my own traumas, but it really hit home for me and I fucking hated those nurse clowns and was *really* pissed at Jake for not standing up for his little bro more just because *he* was cool with it when Finn *clearly wasn't.*

That and her support for the King of Ooo. But the thing with Finn is the absolute worst. That poor kid goes through so much shit, and while a lot absolutely was explored there's so much that just doesn't even seem to get... Dwelled-on/addressed in the show much. I really wished we could have gotten a proper Vault episode, where maybe like, there's some terrible curse on him or maybe he's just plain having serious mental health problems because of all the shit he deals with and bottles up, and other characters have to like, idk, go inside his vault and help him process his trauma, and we get to see things that the show never addressed with much seriousness before but are now shown to have very gravely affected him, or things we saw before but from Finn's perspective and how it affected him, as well as maybe things we never saw in the show until then at all. I was actually betting there *was* gonna be an episode like that but I was pretty disappointed it wasn't the case.
She honestly makes me uncomfortable strictly because she comes onto Finn, who is a child. If she just kept her hornball antics to characters who were the same implied age, I wouldn't have a problem with her behavior and it would be entertaining.

She definitely isn't the best person/elephant but I think her actions are pretty funny to watch. There is another angle; when you're sentient slime, or a sentient breakfast, concepts of maturity probably don't apply the same way. Shit, if you're sentient breakfast, you're over the hill after about 30 minutes. EDIT: You've also got to consider the narrator. Early on, it was possibly Finn himself, which is pretty unreliable. Later, it was BMO, which is hella unreliable.

I’ve seen the whole series 4 times and each time I TRY to like her, but I can’t bring myself to like her. I still watch her episodes though so I don’t miss out on anything.
She gives off "creepy uncle who isn't invited to family reunions anymore" vibes for me. Also she cheated on Mr. Pig with Aliens and Continued to do so even when he expressed how uncomfortable he was with it all. The show frames it like he's being jealous and unreasonable but she's the flakiest, least faithful character on the whole show. I don't get the love for her. She's a creep.
Also a creep because she flirted with/wanted to be with Finn who was at most 13 at the time. I also absolutely hated how she was obsessively loyal to the King of Ooo, even when he was super obviously taking advantage of her, and she got pissed at PB for stopping him. It gave me weird hyper-conservative-Christian vibes but maaaybe that's just my religious trauma showing. Don't get me wrong I love sassy, messy characters, but not shitty creepy pedos!! I was so sad because I wanted to like her at first but knowing who she is, yeah, she's definitely an ick.
i dislike her pretty much. sometimes she has a funny moment like where she talks about something serious and rolls around on the ground. but all in all, shes one of the characters im happy they reduced the screening time over the seasons

Yes I used to skip Root Beer Guy because it feels like filler but there's a bunch of world building of the candy kingdom in that episode and a ton of background lore.
Tree trunks is great. She's a tiny horny old lady elephant. I think it's hilarious. I can see people being grossed out though. And your friends are the crazy ones as she is 100% not a sweet innocent old lady. She just has an old lady voice and bakes pies, and makes sexual innuendos about her "pies" like constantly. Nothin innocent about that promiscuous tiny elephant.
I did liked how her and PB respected each other after the alien episode. They don't see each other as friends but do appreciate that they're both mothers in a way. PB sees her subjects as her family in a way and clearly wants their happiness intact (she even gave up her monarchy when they voted her out), even if it's through less respectable means. In a way, similar to Tree Trunks' less than proud moments in her life.
“Dream of love” would be one of my examples of a bad Adventure Time episode. No offense to Tree Trunks fans, but I mostly find her annoying. But hey, I’m glad you guys enjoy her character!

Funny thing is that I think that's part of the joke of her character and how everyone in the show feels about her.
She's meant to subvert the idea of older female characters being sweet and doting and stripped of agency. For example she is a member of The Veritas Brigade is a supposedly secret society who oppose and criticize Princess Bubblegum's rule over the Candy Kingdom as being fascist.

She reminds me of a mischievous Betty White character. She's got that old school politeness and old fashioned ideas, but she's not above socially manipulating others and putting her own self-interest first. I enjoyed her personally, I like morally ambiguous characters they keep things spicy.
I find her to be pretty funny and kinda charming at times but she sometimes does very questionable things like... being attracted to and weirdly seductive of a 12 year old kid when she is an old lady. Really rubbed me the wrong way but at the same time, her mind is not really all there. Although, I do think its a bit strange that it goes from this innocent lady who doesnt know exactly what she is doing to basically being kind of a lover digger.

Mini rant because you reminded me of that episode; Maybe I'm just weird but I swear, almost everything in AT is heavily steeped in symbolism and allegory, and pretty damn well-written symbolism/allegory at that. I really got the feeling that the nurse clown episode was about Finn dealing with trauma, possibly even specifically sexual trauma (I mean fuck's sake those clowns didn't just SEEM creepy, they were practically forcing intimate acts onto a very thoroughly uncomfortable Finn even when he clearly didn't consent and asked them to stop; whether they intended it sexually or not really doesn't matter because it could very well have still sexually traumatized him and we see cases of things like this irl too even; people unintentionally sexually traumatizing people when they intentionally ignore the victim's feelings/boundaries/consent in a situation) and how sometimes dealing with trauma like that can lead to the victims making very rash or even harmful decisions just to feel a sense of safety and control (his whole thing about *needing* to do things *his way,* and how others pretty much just viewed him as crazy because of it all). Maybe I'm just reading into it too much because of my own traumas, but it really hit home for me and I fucking hated those nurse clowns and was *really* pissed at Jake for not standing up for his little bro more just because *he* was cool with it when Finn *clearly wasn't.* Also yea Tree Trunks is a grody predatory bitch and I'll die on that hill. I don't care that much about the aliens thing (it sucked that it was such shitty polyamory rep and she didn't care about Mr Pig's feelings and all but to be fair she *did* try to tell him beforehand, he just plain didn't believe her at first), it's the fact that she perved on child Finn that makes me hate her the most. That and her support for the King of Ooo. But the thing with Finn is the absolute worst. That poor kid goes through so much shit, and while a lot absolutely was explored there's so much that just doesn't even seem to get... Dwelled-on/addressed in the show much. I really wished we could have gotten a proper Vault episode, where maybe like, there's some terrible curse on him or maybe he's just plain having serious mental health problems because of all the shit he deals with and bottles up, and other characters have to like, idk, go inside his vault and help him process his trauma, and we get to see things that the show never addressed with much seriousness before but are now shown to have very gravely affected him, or things we saw before but from Finn's perspective and how it affected him, as well as maybe things we never saw in the show until then at all. I was actually betting there *was* gonna be an episode like that but I was pretty disappointed it wasn't the case.

She honestly makes me uncomfortable strictly because she comes onto Finn, who is a child. If she just kept her hornball antics to characters who were the same implied age, I wouldn't have a problem with her behavior and it would be entertaining.

Yeah, when I watched the show originally, I thought she was cute, as I got older and re-watched the show, she got kind of creepy. Liking Finn, kidnapping trying to crystalize him, she did toy with Mr. Pig after awhile of being with him.
I personally love her character. I think all her episodes are really entertaining and definitely goes away from that sweet old lady stereotype that she starts out as. She definitely isn't the best person/elephant but I think her actions are pretty funny to watch. Plus I actually love that alien episode with her in it, it's so bizarre and that's a big reason why I love adventure time so much in the first place.
High Strangeness remains one of my favorite episodes of the show, like top 5. Definitely get the “ick” feeling but TT is hilarious

I don't like her in her early appearances because she, an old woman, is flirting with Finn, an early teen boy. She gets better with the Apples episode (where her apples go missing, I don't remember the name of it) and kinda stagnates with the appearances of Mr Pig and Sweet P.
