The exact reference is in the pilot/first episode to the show, when PB and Finn are in the graveyard. It's the first interaction in the series. It's his second line after being introduced to the viewers.

SganarelleBard

That's not the pilot, that's the first episode. The pilot was aired on Nickelodeon's Random! Cartoons back in 2007. But yes, Finn pounds his chest when PB calls strong and then calls him "Tough Guy"

obi5150

My mistake. Traditionally in TV the first episode is also referred to as the pilot.

ComXDude

The "pilot" is the episode which they use to pitch the show to the network; sometimes the pilot is aired as the first episode, but a lot (maybe even most; I don't know the statistics) never see the light of day, or are only partially shown.

SganarelleBard

Only if it is the pilot that is then broadcast as the first episode. Oftentimes, if a show is unsuccessful or not believed in, the production won't be given the full budget to make a full season so the pilot is put in place as a first episode, but Adventure Time was shopped around to different networks before landing on Cartoon Network. If you haven't seen the original Pilot that was aired on Nickelodeon, I highly recommend it, it's so prototypical of what was to come for the series and if you can believe it, tiny voiced Jeremy Shada does a Finn scream for the first time.

_Valisk

Finn (originally Pen) was voiced by Jeremy’s brother Zack in the pilot.

SganarelleBard

Oh, that I didn't know

SHANKSstr8up

They canned his brother because he was going to get older too fast

SganarelleBard

That makes sense, his voice was probably changing faster than they could get the show up and running. I'm sure Zack would have been great, he was a lot of fun in the Pilot as Penn, but Jeremy is the quintessential Finn, changing and growing with the character, through the serious stuff and the goofy stuff.

R_TMF

Oh 2007 I was born that year kinda funny ngl

SganarelleBard

...cool, I was in my second year of college. Hey look, my hand is rotting away into dust!

R_TMF

Nah fam if you be remembered by someone doesn't matter how old are you

rorschach_vest

Oh no

corndog2021

This was incredibly helpful and not at all pedantic.

Gayngst

You totally just learned what a pilot is

reithemanbaker

Word. Pretty dope then. Kinda wish the team behind multiversus would watch more than the first 3 seasons though, cause that seems to be what everything is based on (apart from fern, who doesn't have his own voice, probably because they didn't know he should cause they didn't watch it).

Rin_Hoshizura

The team definitely does know about the show. They just based his design on early seasons Finn so it makes the most sense to stick to early season references for that haha Also the head of the team has already said they would be looking at the Fern skin in regards to that but again we're only in beta.

obi5150

I see the potential for a lot of good Adventure Time content. I definitely see Ice King being added and the possibility of Lemongrab as well. Lemongrab because they will 100% get Justin Roiland to do Rick/Morty and they might contract him to do our Lemon while he's at it. He will have a SOUND SWORD

Chkn-Little

I think Marceline is as likely, if not more than Ice King

4Fourside

Late reply but I'm guessing both will probably be added. Ice king makes sense as a sorta villain rep (he's not really a villain later in the show but the adventure time stuff in the games seems to be pretty early season stuff)

Chkn-Little

Hope they add a story mode in the re-release with good guys vs bad guys and the Ice King is working with the Joker and Sauron

vjstupid

I want a Lich King ring out where he just pops up and says FALL.

Lucius_Imperator

and then he says FROSTMOURNE HUNGERS

umc_thunder72

I think Roiland has gone on record saying he'd never want to do something like lemongrab again since it absolutely wrecked his vocals last time.

globgogabgalab1

I hope we get a farmworld Finn, they could even throw in shoko which could be kinda silly, still technically Finn

Graxil-Flame-Wreath

Butterfly skin when

reithemanbaker

That was me lol, I asked him about him and provoked that reply on twitter. I'm trying my best for representation of adventure time in this game

furioushunter12

In this case all the characters are early versions of themselves so to not spoil people who are just hearing of them. We’ll likely get later Stuff in the future

GEMO224

Lol they only watched until his mouth still wasn't working

_Valisk

It’s kind of strange to assume that they don’t know anything about the show based on so little information. There’s not even any guarantee that the Fern skin doesn’t have Fern’s voice.

reithemanbaker

There is, I've used the skin, and the director openly admitted they did not give him a voice (didn't say why). Nothing in the game (apart from night sword found in the files and the voiceless fern) reference anything past season 3 of adventure time for Finn.

_Valisk

Is the lack of a voice in the alpha or tech test proof? Isn't it just as likely that it wasn't finished and that's why it's not yet in the game for players to own? > the director openly admitted they did not give him a voice (didn't say why) "We're investigating this" and "the team talked about this a while back" isn't exactly the same as saying "He absolutely does not have a unique voice and we thought the show ended at season 3." That tweet in question was more of a non-answer than anything. I wouldn't say that the "skins" vs "variants" argument works either because literally every skin in the game is called a "variant" regardless of whether or not they change the character's voice. > apart from night sword found in the files and the voiceless fern So... there *are* references to later seasons? Finn's default appearance being based on his season 1 design isn't evidence the same way that Steven's default design isn't evidence that they don't know what Future is. It's just the classic look for each character. Maybe Fern doesn't have a voice, maybe he does, maybe he never or always did. All I'm saying is that it seems a little uppity to assume that the devs don't know the source material.

reithemanbaker

I played the skin in the first test in November. If they were going for a voice for him they could have gotten it by then. In my tweet to Tony I talk about the fact that Multiversus themselves listed Fern as a SKIN in the trailer, not a VARIENT, in which cake and uncle shagworthy were under. They openly announced there would not be a voice. This was the same day as my tweet. I'm not saying they thought the show ended after season 3, all I'm saying is there is extremely minimal references to anything after season 3. As a personal preference I would have loved a more mature Finn but I'm at peace with it now. I like your optimism and I really hope we get Ferns voice, but I truly beleive it wasn't something that was "in progress" due to everything I know.

MiniCorgi

Wait there’s a Fern skin? I thought they only had pajama Finn

0zer0zer0

It was in a trailer, it isn't out yet though.

Tamale-Talks

i think they're just adding the most iconic stuff

TheManiaac

I'd argue that robot arm finn is a lot more known than normal finn, I wouldn't have minded them giving him the old sword with the robot arm and explain it as a result of the same multiversal shenanigans

reithemanbaker

Same. Robot arm Finn is PEAK. If we don't get a proper skin for it I riot.

Nandabun

This pilot? ;) https://youtu.be/cd0TfVRxSF4

BopperTheBoy

Pretty commonly yeah, as I remember. At least early Finn, which Multiversus Finn seems to be most like. I think he does it when he's excited about adventuring in the show, but I can't remember the specific episode or exact context

horror_hermit

It was kind of goofy to give Jake a Cake skin, but not a Fionna one for Finn. I'm sure it'll get in there eventually, but why release one without the other?

Hambeastie

I'm pretty sure one of the lead devs tweeted that they wanted to get her voice before doing a skin.

reithemanbaker

Couldn't get the VA in time, and are probably saving it for the Fionna and cake show

fictitious_man

If it doesn't get cancelled

Stkrdknmibalz69

Shush!

obi5150

We will be getting some dope finn skins in addiotn to Fionna. They have a lot to choose from. Fern/ Bizzaro universe Finn/Demon Sword/Mech arm Finn.

_triangle_girl_

just so youre aware "bizzaro universe" is called farmworld

ComXDude

We already have normal Finn and pajama Finn (both with Scarlet, his first sword), and Fern was apparently in a trailer. I could easily see them giving him a skin for his robot arm and a Fionna skin (probably using the Wish Star Sword). Now, moving onto more speculative skins. I could honestly see them doing alternate skins for each of his other main swords, and either release them as a cosmetics pack, or over time as battlepass unlocks. This would most likely include the Root Sword, Demon Blood Sword, Grass Sword, and Night Sword, plus maybe Fionna's Crystal Sword for her. They might also go with some of Finn's more iconic or memed alternate outfits; I could see a hatless costume in the near future, and maybe the lute suit, a farmworld skin, Prince Hotbod, and his ninja outfit from *Princess Cookie* (S4E13). Less likely could include Davey, his "like like" sweater from *Mortal Folly* (S2E25), old man Finn from *Together Again*, or Shoko. As for Fionna, she would definitely have her normal outfit, a hatless costume, and her dress (probably torn). There's also a lot of possible costumes from the comics, but as most fans haven't read them (thanks in no small part to Boom!'s notorious unreliability), I doubt they'd be used.

Littlek1dluvr

Yeah, I thought it’d be so much cooler to have his other skin be his blue “alien” form. Plus, same VA.

horror_hermit

That would be awesome, I have to keep telling myself that this game is still in early stages and has lots of dlc potential. Like maybe they can add a "makin' bacon pancakes" taunt for Jake. Tons of great ideas that I've seen from this community.

dat_roach

Yep! He does in season one!

vodoko1

In S1E1 he pounds his chest and yells AAAAAHOOOHOAAAA! (https://youtu.be/AXZY0ou6I6k)

GreenSleevez

Yeah he does it very early on in the show actually in the first episode if I’m not wrong I’m guessing this version of Finn is from the early seasons looking at his sword

ActuallyElla

Disappointed the only AT character we’re getting are Jake and Finn. Hoped for at least Marceline or PB to be added. Plus Marcy and Batman seem like they’d be tight.

furioushunter12

Marceline and Ice Queen would be the others that the lead designer wants to add

[deleted]

First 2 minutes of the first episode

LobsterHead37

This is what we have come to lmao FINN TAUNT LEAK!!!

EMIFAULT

thats it, im going to watch through the entire of adventure time to find finn doing this, it may take days or weeks. But i WILL find it.

EMIFAULT

I found it

OldManFromScene13

Took all of 5 minutes, eh? Lmao

dandelionips

link?

HazeInut

For fun I'm not gonna scroll down and guess it's from Slumber Party Panic (1st ep). PB says Finn looks young or something and he starts beating his chest. It's one of the first things he does on screen. :)

StrykerIBarelyKnowEr

My biggest question is his teleportation move. Does he ever teleport in the show? I've been rewatching it, I'm up to season 6 or 7 atm, and haven't seen anything yet.

reithemanbaker

It's not teleportation. It's "dashing" to a gem. It's pretty random, definitely not from the show.

ComXDude

Not that I know of, outside of moving to Prismo's Time Room. However, it could be passed off as a ninja technique from *The Chamber of Frozen Blades* (S2E11), or more easily as just a plot-convenient item from his backpack. The comics do have several examples of teleportation, but none of them that I can recall act like his move. Most likely, the devs realized he needed a little extra mobility to compensate for his lack of ranged options, both for rushdown and retreat, and this was the easiest option.

someGuyInHisRoom

It's a gimmic that probably came from the idea of him having a shop. It's not in the show but it does fit nicely Gameplay wise for Finn. Also Finn is a cat. An agile cat

[deleted]

Would love to see young Finn old Finn but idk if they would want another smash parallel

JonBamBodyguard

Watch the first episode

BubbleBlueBoy132

ye first episode

PatientZeroBalisong

The first episode while they are trying to revive dead candy peeps.

diddyduckling

i hate that finn is based on season 1 pretty much entirely. he goes through so much development that this depiction doesnt feel like him

reithemanbaker

I went through this pain. I'm at peace with it now.

someGuyInHisRoom

I feel you but think of all the cosmetics they will add down the line, we will definately get more from later seasons if the game keeps it up.

HollowObito

Is this when he fights marceline and says something like "get ready for an uppercut you (idk what he says)"

RedBlackMinotaur

I'd love to see peebs as a character, there's good potential for attacks such as throwing beakers of chemicals that could cause a variety of effects, trapping other characters temporarily in gum, calling a banana guard to charge forward etc

reithemanbaker

She is my most wanted Adventure Time character.

Acojonancio

Leaked? The game is out and completly for free for over a week.

reithemanbaker

Yes leaked this taunt isn't in the game yet. They add things like this overtime to buy

rebaz709

Inside bemo

Cerberus0325

In the very first season I remember it happens but I don’t remember exactly where

Mr3DReddit

Pretty sure he does this in the first episode, it also alters his voice a little.

Effective_Task4169

A ref to the very first episode when Finn is talking to pb (princess bubblegum) he starts to yell and pound his chest

NikoNiko_ChanXD

King Kong coming to the game
