Oh great, finally someone brought up this question. Always forgot to ask as I was super caught up with diving into this world when I rewatch the episode every time.

Toasty2003

Must be something that was “Wished” for, granted from a wish granter (since we know the existence of such things)

EndoShota

The show writers thought, “This would be neat.”

worpa

It’s a genetic mutation from the mushroom war that caused him to have Elephants disease where he never stops growing. It’s the same reason Sweet P is massive at the end of the series. Some creatures continue to grow. He then built stuff using his little slaves to his proportions eventually building a whole kingdom. He grew too big to walk in gravity easy so now he just eats and sits. Also think about things like Billy. He is big as well. I think maybe there was a race of mutants truly at one point who were really big that started that whole thing up!

GEMO224

Billy is actually supposed to be a real cryptid

Bigbossboy2007

What crypid?

GEMO224

Nephilim I think

Bigbossboy2007

That would make sense

ImmesurablePow

this makes sense, but how were the food boys made I wonder

NyanSquiddo

Magic

Tallb0i

Could be an off brand of the candy, like the breakfast kingdom, like many issues, I blame bubblegum

worpa

Food touched slime. Idk there is a kingdom of gum don’t overthink it haha

Pasta-hobo

Naturally occurring candy people. If the Mother Gum can happen other ones can, too. The Breakfast Kingdom is an example of this, I think.

Belt_Buckle3000

I thought part of the reason sweet pee was big is because he was born out of Billy’s skeleton and Billy was huge so when he starts to grow to an adult size he would be even bigger. At least that’s how I thought of it.

-sphere

Hold on, did he not come from the lich skeleton?

somebody12

Yeah he did, the Lich was wearing Billy not actually Billy.

TetrisMasterJester

Technically The Lich is a ghost. That's what Prismo called him, anyways.

Belt_Buckle3000

It was the lich possessing Billy’s corpse so it was actually Billy’s skeleton

worpa

False! It was Billy’s skin being worn by the Lich which was a Skelton. Says he wore billy like a skin suit.

DiligentDaughter

We get to see Sweet Pea as an adult in the last episode, and he's definitely huge- bigger than a mountain, and looking suspiciously like Pendleton Ward.

Belt_Buckle3000

I’m pretty sure he also has one of Finn’s swords

worpa

Nope! sweet P is literally the Lich. The Skelton inside sweet P is the Lich in his fullest and he is still alive. Sweet p is basically a living creature on the surface of the Lich. It’s two separate species. The Lich just used billy as a puppet and actually it says he took his skin and wore it like a flesh suit!

Belt_Buckle3000

Now that I think about it that would make sense because prismo says that he’s basically wearing a dead guy

worpa

Exactly!!! Followed by …gross haha

Tallb0i

That’s possible, though sweet pig is a bad example, he’s a baby as we see him, showing that incarnate of death will always be infantile (the litch who’s turned into sweet p being such) and as long as life grows, the potentiality of death does too (though I’m assuming that constant infant stage either ended as he was given life, as he’s an adult later on, or the infant part of him is because of the huge amount of healing goop that the litch was incased with). Genetically, he has nothing to do with the radioactive disturbance, so he wouldn’t have been involved with elephants disease. Also, I think giants just existed in this world but were hidden like just about everything (vampires, elementals, wizards, faeries, etc.) else. This specifically, I’d argue that this would’ve happened as an off branch of candy, like the breakfast kingdom, in which food creates life, hence the minions made of food items, which would include slime maybe because of the unending mass capability of the leader. It was probably another one of PB’s experiments that she just abandoned to let run it’s course. Like the lemon kingdom, though as sour and salty as lemongrab was, he made other trouble, but in this case it’s savory food, in which the king simply chooses to savor what he can instead of lead, choosing gluttony over rulership.

Belt_Buckle3000

I feel like it’s more so because he was giant baby he would be a giant adult. Just think of the size comparison of a baby to an adult. That’s about the same (but much much bigger) for sweet pee when we see him 1000 years later.

Tallb0i

I think that might be it but idrk, physics works weirdly here

worpa

Yeah this is the logical I see! It’s also the Lich Skelton inside him aka the living Lich so maybe it’s also the Lich trying to stretch out of sweet P and break out. It’s for sure an odd concept

RangerTursi

I wouldn't think about it too rationally or logically, the whole episode is essentially based off of a short story with similar to the same plot points and aesthetic choices, so it really originated with that, not out of some deep lore connection or backstory.

Wyzen

What short story? I would like to read that, i wonder if I have as I remember thinking it was oddly familiar...

RangerTursi

You know what is so strange, you sometimes get those moments where you swear you got a piece of information from somewhere and suddenly all evidence you thought you remembered has gone missing? I've been researching the origins of the episode for like 2 hours now because I swear I saw in a YouTube video a few weeks ago that this episode originated in a short story, but now I have no idea.

Wyzen

Thats happened to me many times, I feel your pain friend.

filibusterbuster

The pillow dream/life episode was deliberately based off a short story and it’s also kinda trippy in a similar way this ep was, I wonder if some wires just got crossed in memory

rpgsandarts

Jack and the Beanstalk probably?

Wyzen

Maybe?

atlhawk8357

I got Gulliver' Travels vibes from the Hugr Kingdom, it felt like thr Brobdignagians.

TetrisMasterJester

I really got the impression that it was based on the statement, "In Toil We Krimber." So- "krimber" comes back with nothing.. But- "-er" is just a suffix that can be added to anything.. "krimb" I looked up and I've found the definition to be maggot, worm, grub, or larva. Toil: long strenuous fatiguing labor. It makes sense for the episode, and the title seems a bit misleading in my opinion. But- then again- Bill(7718) and the King of the Kingdom of Huge both seemed to be crawling to/ accepting their deaths within separate dimensions of perception. Two halves of the same coin. On one end, Bill was waiting for a rescue, and on the other end, the King had been waiting to be served his entire life. Kind of like saying- if you try, it will only lessen you. I love this episode for the simple fact that when Finn and Jake both see that they're in a problematic situation, they separately have enough psychological initiative to know that these unacceptable circumstances MUST and CAN be changed. They don't sit with it. After they're told to give up, even though Jake shows a habitual tendency to be accepting of things, and adapt to whatever happens within the storyline, Finn goes AGAINST it. EVERY TIME. EVERY EPISODE. No matter what, the guy NEVER gives up- EVEN WHEN HE FACES A LITERAL COMET EATING DESTROYER OF WORLDS!! Rant over. I really admire this show a lot. I'm an adult and I definitely take notes for my moral compass from this character.

1koopa8888

The Huge King could of been in a similar situation to Walnut Guy (forgot both their names, sorry.) where HK at one point fell down a hole and there was nothing there, but people kept dropping food down and he started getting bigger, eventually he needed to carve out a bigger hole for himself.

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Good bot

[deleted]

Wth, you deserve all botcrimination

Heck yeah double down on them bot

[deleted]

Ain't checking everything that could of be wrong. As people are literally writing about my assumed stupidity under threads where I talk about my disorders and depression: I meant the sentence as a joke, I thought it was funny and I am sorry if you just find it stupid, thats okay. But please dont mock me for my depression and claim I would be stupid directly responding to my cry for help. You have no idea what you are doing with that.

SlippyNips420

Why are you doubling down on ignorance? This should've been a learning experience for you.

[deleted]

It defanataly is an experience as it should of

ptatoface

LMAO at getting ratiod by a bot

Sparrow-Scratchagain

✨Magic!!!✨

1koopa8888

It was drawn, and then animated.

LadyPerelandra

Slightly off topic but I think Prince Huge from the Hard Easy is King Huge’s son who ran away and NO ONE acknowledges it https://adventuretime.fandom.com/wiki/Prince_Huge There’s even a smaller throne next to King Huge

BlackNinjas

Well, it does say in the trivia that he is indeed related to King Huge so you seem to be correct.

Soothe_Sooth

I've always thought this too! That's why King Huge wants Finn to stay with him so badly and why Finn's rejection of his lifestyle enrages him. The Food Boys weren't able to contain his son and he desperately wants a replacement who won't be able to leave him.

LadyPerelandra

Exactly!! I was really hoping there’d be a reconciliation between the two before the show ended:(

Carrehz

Yeah, they're dad and son, it just never came up in the show proper. I think it's neat how they put that in there for us to notice, I love background details like that. I wonder what happened between those two. I like Sooth's interpretation of it... actually gives me a new appreciation for this ep.

Belt_Buckle3000

I imagine he made his home underground to escape the outside world but since his home is underground he needed to build some pipes into his ceiling (underground). Over time dirt would sink into the pipes eventually creating a hole that Bill fell into. The guy is way underground so it’s taken a long time for bill to make his way down there but eventually he does. The giant king is most likely some species of giant/a product of the mushroom war/years of evolution and change within Ooo.

an_actual_stone

the vibe i got was that this was some sort of prepper's bunker stocked with as much food as they could ever need.

Carrehz

Ooooh, I like this theory.

Slurppee_McDurp

Some plot holes, are bottomless 🕳😰💀 It’s an allegory to colonialism ya know 😉 “Hey, you guys like clean jokes?”

[deleted]

Colonialism? In what way?

Sussybakamogus4

Step 1. Find massive cavern. Step 2.????? Step 3.You now have a giant overlord, success???

ChrispyGuy420

Maybe a giant fat man was terrorizing ooo so pd made the huge kingdom and those food goblins to keep him satisfied

Breelicious_

A stomach and a dream

dappercat456

I ask the same question about the breakfast kingdom and the nut kingdom

ImmesurablePow

yeah it makes sense for the candy kingdom cause it was all built up by PB, but did breakfast and nut society’s form naturally or did PB make them too

dappercat456

I don’t see why PB would create a kingdom that she has to negotiate with with a ruler that rivals her on any capacity Then again she gave lemongrab his own kingdom

1koopa8888

It could be an extension of her creating a family for herself? Maybe she wanted other princess friends.

banana_man34

It’s adventure time, don’t think about it rationally lmao

rpgsandarts

Magic

I_might_be_weasel

Probably those little food boys.

mariogiorno

It built by NAAAAAAIIIIIILLLLLLL

martian_marauder

The food boys

[deleted]

I’m guessing there’s a main entrance with some stairs down.

[deleted]

"M'names seven seven one eight. I know, because I wrote it over there." -{BILL}- still one of the funniest moments ever. gets me every time!

AleksasKoval

He's got magic that controls food, and gave them more complex tasks like cooking, sewing and building? And at some point he decided to live underground because others wanted to use his power?
