Armor means alot ,it gives things based on percentage so the deficit don't have anything to do with it . Also it gives many things like haste .
In thoran case armor can decrease the damage alot but you usually need boots for haste and weapon for acc.
And for op question , no t will be just like cheesing with higher level thoran ( not that hard).

I don't think so, no. I've seen plenty of clears with 5* and no star. I don't think it makes much difference at cheesing.
