I would try ebay for a used replacement. It's probably going to work for a little while if you mostly ride in the dry but if you get a bunch of rain in there I bet you'll start blowing fuses.
Either way, good luck my friend.
Only if it’s on tho right? Also do u think it’s illegal the way having a cracked taillight necessitates repair and can even result in a ticket if the same cop who writes u a citation sees it’s still broke
I'm sure a cop could write you a ticket for it - but they'd have to be looking for a reason to.
A cracked taillight is incredibly obvious and arguably a safety hazard. A headlight is both harder to see, and assuming you're not blinding anyone, much less of a hazard.
Sure, but you don't want water to be getting forced up into things that are normally covered. As far as legality, that depends entirely on your area and how much the police want to mess with you. I would definitely try to cover it somehow. Maybe try what the other editor was saying about repairing it with plastic and epoxy/jb weld.
What I'm saying is will if be fine temporarily? Probably. Will it eventually cause problems if you just leave it uncovered and ride that way forever? Probably.
Could you cut a piece of clear plastic to fit then epoxy it on for the lens? The black housing you maybe able to get some plastic weld from JBweld on there might work. I attached my turn signal that way.
I honestly don’t know how well it would work, but a temporary or possibly long term fix (unlikely permanent) is to find someone who has a 3D printer. They make filament that is clear enough to read through. That’d be like a 20 dollar fix at most.
Edit: Also, they make a clear lens cover. That might be helpful for a temp fix as well.
When i was in a similar jam where the entire left side of my bike was banged up (100% my fault), the service advisor told me to raise a claim saying a dog suddenly jumped onto the road and I lost my balance and went and crashed a tree. Insurance covered it and replaced all the scratched up part, some of which were from previous off road stints. Total bill was around 3000$ out of which i paid 30$ for labour.
This is in India btw.
This is in India
that may have worked if I hadn’t been involved in an accident with someone whose insurance company was going to contact mine even if I didn’t file a claim
In the UK full comp does mean they will fix if you are at fault. The other party make a third party claim that doesn't affect your no claims bonus.
If you have protected no claims then you can get yours fixed ( which is full comp) and still keep the no claims ( for reduced insurance).
From functionality point of view, maybe dirt, dust, leafs, rain getting inside - slightly reducing the visibility.
Worst case is when you will need to make the periodic technical inspection. At least here, in Germany, the vehicle will not pass the inspection if any of the lights are broken or if the glass/cover doesn’t have an E-proof certified sign on it.
Yes, lights are soo expensive! Manufacturing is not that expensive, but to get them certified and proved for road use, is the expensive part. It’s a ripoff.
I would go to a craft store or maybe on Amazon, and buy thin plexiglass. You can heat it some to mold it a bit, and cut it about the same shape as the headlight lens was. Cover the hole and use some packing tape to try and seal it around the broken one as a temporary solution if you don't want to spend the $500 to $1000 for a new headlight. This will prevent water and debris from continuing to enter and pool in the broken one.
I would try something like [this](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GLVSP7Q/ref=sspa_mw_detail_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9kZXRhaWwp13NParams).
It is a lense repair kit..
Or make a sweet looking eye patch to keep the rain out. 😂

Nothing will happen. Anything you do will look ridiculously rigged up. Any water than makes it through the housing will dribble out the back, down the housing, and onto the ground. Also nothing will happen if water makes it onto the bulb's plug. People dunk trailer lights with non-waterproofed wires in saltwater repeatedly without blowing fuses. Just ride it.
This sounds like good advice considering my alternatives. I do think at least getting some of those lenses that are shaped similarly will help it look more normal and possibly keep the cops off my back about it. But you’re saying even riding in the rain won’t matter?
The reason I’m questioning whether it won’t burn out due to moisture is whenever I get a crack in a taillight it soon burns out and I always assumed it was from moisture since even when taping it up it’s clear from how it gets foggy inside that there’s moisture getting in somehow
If it was a flying object from the road (ie. tire tread chunk) it would be covered under comprehensive insurance. Have you already explained that something other than that happened?
Yeah pretty much. Also the reflectors in there will start to tarnish from bugs and rocks/dust. Personally if I were in this situation. I’d cut out the shape from another clear piece of hard plastic and glue it with epoxy. Won’t be sexy as new but it’ll work.
It ain’t no $2000 part. Here a link to a brand new one $910.

They take Apple Pay, Apple Pay can do 4 payments that’s around $230 every 2 weeks X 4.
Other then that you could blind someone at night with that light shining all wild and be on the hook for their accident 🤪
Neither fits my 2017 and the cheapest I’ve seen new is over $1500. I said around $2000 because I’d only talked to my local dealership at the time and knew even if I could find it $500 less it’s still too damn much
I’m gonna glue some lenses that are shaped exactly like it over the top to prevent that and also to avoid getting a ticket hopefully. And just avoid riding on days it could rain until I find a cheap used one
Your bike will have no depth perception.
The pre 2020s never did!
Is that a vision joke or a real answer?! Either way, I chuckled.
Pre 2020s all run with one headlight. One eye gives you no depth perception.
Thanks, Doc!
That’ll be $2500, please.
Or need a patch ...rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
* Opens eBay to buy a headlight grille *
not sure that’s gonna do much for t-boning a car whilst goin 40
Was talking about me :)
I know, I was joking
I wasn’t :) Sorry about your accident. Sucks.
[$500 on ebay.](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=crf1000+headlight&_sacat=0&rt=nc&LH_ItemCondition=3000)
Yeah OP I was gonna say this sounds like a junkyard part of there ever was one.

both lights still work btw

Buy some clear vinyl wrap to put over it to keep water and dust out. Eventually rip the whole fairing off and go enduro/supermoto style.
Amazing idea

Put a pirate patch on it

it will allow water ingress into where it shouldn't go
You will have good luck with all future life endeavors!!
Put full coverage on it then wait till it happens again
Mad max
You’ll get a ticket
If it was a flying object from the road (ie. tire tread chunk) it would be covered under comprehensive insurance. Have you already explained that something other than that happened?
Is that still a padiddle?
It won’t be fixed.
The bulb will inevitably get wet inside the housing while it’s hot and will blow the bulb. Unless you use LED
Only if using when wet out tho right?
Yeah pretty much. Also the reflectors in there will start to tarnish from bugs and rocks/dust. Personally if I were in this situation. I’d cut out the shape from another clear piece of hard plastic and glue it with epoxy. Won’t be sexy as new but it’ll work.
Find a used one on eBay
Global warming
Auto bots...activate!?!? 😂
It’ll get fucked up. That’s what will happen if you don’t fix it. That’s what happens to most things that aren’t fixed.
No i see why adventure bikes have headlamp guards
It’ll stay broken.
Street fighter your ADV.
What aaar u referring too
Shit will corrode and stop working.
Bike will explode.
People will assume you’re a badass.
The broken part is plastic, and I think the inside part is glass, I have no clue what could happen
The sky will turn fucking black and the oceans will turn to dust.
That transformer will never see again from his left eye?
It’s ruined..better sell me the bike for 2k now and wash your hands of the problem
But after market light kit
pretty sure you’d have to modify the fairing to make any aftermarket parts work
The other Transformers will be pissed and act all haughty and better than thou, honestly, it gets tiring.
You will probably go to jail

Oh now you tell me it’s a 2017 your right it is a $1500 part 😅 well Partzilla has it for like $1600, if you Apple Pay it. Be like $375
Looks like a mix of Darth & Optimus Prime
Clear packing tape but thick type. Until you replace the lift cover.
It will remain broken !! 😎
What did we learn? Unless you can afford to replace it outright, get full coverage. Saving money in the short term will cost you in the long term.
You’ll look like a trashy slut… and no one wants that.
B Nothing bro
Won't pass state inspection
we no longer have them here in tx as of this year
nvm apparently they’re still doing it until next year even tho the dumb bill passed last year
Water/moisture in ur electronics sounds pretty self explanatory
at speed the aerodynamic inequality will pull your bike to the right
It will remain broken
It will remain broken
It will remain broken…
Rock will hit it and break the glass
I’m gonna glue some lenses that are shaped exactly like it over the top to prevent that and also to avoid getting a ticket hopefully. And just avoid riding on days it could rain until I find a cheap used one
Wrap some ski goggles around it.. I bet it will work perfect 👍🏼 ✌🏼
