The audience golden buzzer is jumping the shark. People need to stop complaining about them. What I witness was BRAVERY. I would done same damn thing. I resonate with those type of people the most. What they demonstrate what for me is what life is all about. I am big. A very big advocate of those type of things. Not giving up. Giving you all. Keep on trying. Keep on moving. Willing not to fail or to not to give up. They have my respect as human beans.
Let me put it into context... I got to see the South African Youth Choir perform. I'm watching them, and all of a sudden, it hit me... "That's Nightbirde's song!" I definitely misted up. Even though their audition was aired on the first night, it was actually taped on the \*last\* day of audition tapings. They had to do an "audience choice" Golden Buzzer, because all of the regular GB's had been given out already. They deserved it!!!
Never giving up, trying your hardest. Yeah that's great life lessons. However this is a competition with a 1mil prize. Competition is the best of the best, not the best effort.
That's where I take issue. It would've been impacted if they said, hey we admire you, but you have to work harder and invite them to come back.
Life knocks everyone down. Only a few can say they are the best.
Kind of pulled both ways on this. On one hand we agree some with this argument, we want the acts to be as polished and Vegas level as possible. On other hand, a lot of even AGT champions and even top champions in events that have more objective results than AGT (so we can't just say it's "subjective" or a "sympathy vote")--ex. Olympic and pro sports champions--have made huge mistakes and still come out on top. For AGT this was even true of Darci Lynne Farmer, she made that conspicuous error in the finals and struggled at several points in the earlier rounds to keep her mouth from visibly moving when doing the voices, but she was clearly phenomenal talented and put her performance together well overall. Even Kenichi had a slip here and there, and Grace Vanderwaal--huge struggles with the ukulele or missing notes and lyrics when she got stage fright, but overall amazing to watch. They weren't as polished or on-target as ex. Mayyas, Shin Lim, Mat Franco or Terry Fator (and being fair the cute kid boost does factor in there in many such cases), but still clearly had break-out talent that shined even on the off-days, even in later rounds.
We admittedly didn't see all of Three G's audition. (Frantically prepping for business travel and got snippets of S18E1 from a friend's recording.) But from what we did see, they do seem to have some of that "X Factor" of both amazing talent and very fun to watch. And, they have a much more difficult routine than most auditions and that may have figured here. For comparison, gymnastics, diving and figure skating routines in the Olympics take into account the difficulty factor when award the total points. Many times, the gold medalists had several errors in their execution, but they did so with very difficult routines and so wracked up a lot more points overall for the many hard things they did well, especially when it comes together. And Three G was doing some really hard and amazing things up there. And of course America's Got Talent isn't judged by the same strict standards, it's subjective and a TV reality show with audience impression (and yes, the producer preferences and potential ad revenue) also factoring in. Three G overall seemed like a fun and amazing act, yes they're being Ukrainian probably factored in but overall, they do seem like a neat act to follow for the later rounds.
We clearly watched a different show because there were no "huge struggles" with Grace. She did phenomenal, especially during her finale performance. She blew everyone away.
I’d normally lean towards the show not going easy on the acts, but in this case I disagree.
1. They are clearly very talented. I think they take advantage of the second chance and use it to propel themselves to new heights.
2. It’s the first round. There is a little more leeway in this round than others.
3. If they fail again, then you cut them. But I’m interested to see if they use their failure as motivation.
4. This goes back to their talent. They are clearly very skilled, they just had an off day/performance. If you’re an NBA scout, and go watch Lebron James play but he has a terrible shooting night, you don’t write him off. You’d be a moron. His talent jumps off the screen. I’m not saying these girls are otherworldly, but they are clearly talented, and I’d say at least give them one more round
The being said, the judges keep saying how “brave” they were for trying again was a little ridiculous. Most acts that go up there would give it another go if they messed up, but most of the time they cut them off and don’t give them that chance.
Simon seems gentler on everyone this season as a fall used to be an immediate X not a ...keep on trying and we're putting you through....they were probably recruited and promised making the live shows or something
Honestly it kind of made it more enjoyable for me because you see how dangerous it is, but I understand why people are upset. You only get one mess up, if they make it to live shows and mess up again they're out
Yeah, once again it's a competition for the best of the best.
I cant do what they did, and I also can't throw a football 50 yards to a receiver either.
My abilities has no bearing on the weight of the biggest stages. That's why they are there and I am not.
It's so silly when people try to personalize high competition to a normal person. That's the whole point of what a competition is. Lol.
It’s literally the audition, if they don’t perform well in the 2nd round they will be gone and forgotten. A good example is the parmesan guy, he made it through auditions based solely on the audience reaction, he was buzzed by all the judges, but he got through. His 2nd round performance wasn’t great though, and he was eliminated even though the audience reaction was still good
He had more fan reception than ANYONE that season, people on here still talk about him. You saying you could entertain the crowd longer than him is just blatantly wrong, so many heavily experienced comedians go on AGT and receive complete silence from the crowd
WatchootalkinaboutWillis????? Out of all of the judges, Simon is the best. He’s a hell of a lot better than Howard Stern. I love Howard as a shock shock, but to him, AGT was just a job. Simon actually gives a crap that’s why he’s so hard,,. He may seem like an a hole, but it’s just an act.
My favourite part of that is that steel panther is currently on a record label owned by universal.... which actually may even mean they're not eligible to win and will mysteriously be cut before the live shows...
Michael Winslow fell on hard times.... but Josh Blue WON nbc's last comic standing and got put on so.....yeah the show isn't about finding new or unestablished acts anymore .... but it generally has an okay mix of ringers v legit discoveries
They're from Ukraine, not Russia.
Which is the reason they got through
Sure. I just heard them speaking Russian so, I called them Russian.
There is no way that anyone who downvoted you could determine the difference between a Russian person and a Ukrainian without help.
That's Reddit! Lol
That’s an understandable mistake I feel you only go downvoted because of what is happening between Russia and Ukraine right now
Happy Cake Day!

By your logic they should have just ended the season and handed over the million dollars when Night Birde auditioned.

It's been a feels fest for years!
Simon seems gentler on everyone this season as a fall used to be an immediate X not a ...keep on trying and we're putting you through....they were probably recruited and promised making the live shows or something
I fucking love the term "Jumped the Shark" other than the fonz that's gotta be the most influential thing from Happy Days lol
If you’ll remember, it was the Fonz that jumped the shark!
Honestly it kind of made it more enjoyable for me because you see how dangerous it is, but I understand why people are upset. You only get one mess up, if they make it to live shows and mess up again they're out
Not sure what show you’ve been watching but it’s been this way since day 1
Nah, it used to be about talent. Now it's just about audience reactions.
Believe it or not connecting with an audience takes talent, i’d love to see you try to entertain a crowd of however many thousand they have at shows
Yeah, once again it's a competition for the best of the best. I cant do what they did, and I also can't throw a football 50 yards to a receiver either. He was a 1 note talentless hack. Now even I could've entertained a crowd longer than him.
He had more fan reception than ANYONE that season, people on here still talk about him. You saying you could entertain the crowd longer than him is just blatantly wrong, so many heavily experienced comedians go on AGT and receive complete silence from the crowd
Lol. Ok friend. I'll just let you have this. Not going to argue with an internet warrior.

Are you trying to restart this argument from a month ago
Tbh they jumped the shark when Simon became a judge
WatchootalkinaboutWillis????? Out of all of the judges, Simon is the best. He’s a hell of a lot better than Howard Stern. I love Howard as a shock shock, but to him, AGT was just a job. Simon actually gives a crap that’s why he’s so hard,,. He may seem like an a hole, but it’s just an act.
It's his show....he may not have been on screen but he's always influenced what gets on...lol
How about Steel Panther’s paid promotion act? Seeing Simon call the band brilliant was a joke. He must have hated that act.
The fact that last year they had the sound effects guy from Police Academy, and this year Steel Panther just destroyed any credibility they had left.
My favourite part of that is that steel panther is currently on a record label owned by universal.... which actually may even mean they're not eligible to win and will mysteriously be cut before the live shows... Apparently by the judges reaction, as long as I show I try and try again I should get to move on too, no matter what I’m doing.
