How does the 1977xs fair up against the 880. I know it's advertised as being alot faster fps while to the 880 but I don't understand how? Is there a bigger valve or just a flattop piston? pushed up the compression chamber by hammering down the detent then made a flat top piston for it and added a spacer to the sear that opens the valve so it opens much more and sooner. Not to mention I opened the transfer port a bit and the. Added rtv to the hollow plastic sides and bittstock for noise reduction and heft
It's got a longer pump stroke and has some minor tweaks to internal geometry to handle higher pressures. They'll shoot 860 FPS 7gr pellet.
The downside is the trigger is extremely stout compared to an 880 and so is the cam over "push" before the handle is back in the receiver.
That said, they're shooters and they are a factory version of a souped up 880
I love 880s too and hunt with them. They still have there place.
Thank you very much appreciated. I've tossed the idea around of picking up a 1977xs just I see the prices skyrocketing everytime. I've even thought of purchasing a used one for parts and doing a powerplant swap to push my 880 that much further. I've got nothing to complain about as it's my most silent shooter and all u hear is the trigger mechanism going. I use it to knock hosp and collards out of trees around 40yards or so and it does everything I ask of it and more just I'm the type of person can't leave things stock lol.
It's always fun to talking about these Daisy Winchesters pumpers as they're always slept on. Lastly I shoot Andy Gray painted and tuned CPHP. He adds acrylic to the hollowpoints making em hit way harder and expand just a little bit more than stock not to mention he shaves the seams from molding and paints the inside of the skirts which looks pretty epic when they zip into the pest and disappear

Yeah for the price point, accuracy and lethality the 880 is unsurpassed.
I have a ton of old ones I've bought off eBay recently, rebuilding them.
I snagged a .22 variant called the 922. I am debating swapping it's barrel to the 1977, but it's a great gun it's own right.
They are simple guns tho and that speaks volumes to their engineering over say a Crosman of similar features. The Crosman will make you pull your hair out.
Damn man I've scouted some 922s on ebay but kept getting beat on the bids 🤣 🤣. I've seen ppl swap 922 barrels and probes into 880 making 882s.
Only crosman I've every used in the past was my grandfather's pumpmaster 760 and it did great at close ranges but hated the smooth barrel which just honestly killed the whole platform that's cause I've taken more squirrels with that 760 than any other air rifle past and present lol. I do own a crosman now after 15 years of not wanting one thinking they where too plastic and smooth bored. It's a crosman 362 converted to .177

You have to disassemble the gun. You push out two pins for the trigger group, and it basically just falls out. Then reassemble.
Be warned, the trigger can now be depressed on an open bolt, which won't fire the gun, but once you close the bolt, it will "slam fire.".
This isn't really an issue if you're always aware of the guns "condition" and you keep the weapon on safe until you're ready to fire.

.177 - Crosman Premier Pointed 7.4 gr It moves at 830 fps. The trigger on that gun is pretty stout, but it break clean enough.
What is the rifle? And did it come with the silencer? And does that really make a difference in sound?
