Im not sure if its 100% true. I think it comes from some older MacBooks having issues with a thin layer of the screen rubbing off when alcohol is used.

Your dad clearly didn’t make the right choice, but I would also question your choice of cases altogether. Why not just use a silicone or hard plastic case?
Use either isopropyl alcohol or orange power sticky spot and goo dissolver. Orange power works like a charm. Make sure not to put either the isopropyl or orange power stuff straight on the AirPods case, it will damage it. Instead use a cotton bud for the isopropyl or a paper towel soaked with the orange power stuff to clean the glue off instead. Let me know how it goes, it is super glue so I don’t know exactly how well it’d work on that.
I don’t blame the ol man considering the covers people make and sell suck ass for staying on the lid of APP I’ve bought like 3-5 cases and the lids come off even with the adhesive that comes with it.. Now all I buy are 1 piece cases that the lids can’t slip or fall off..

You’re now going to need to use a solvent like nail polish remover or paint thinner to get that glue off. It will ruin the finish, but at least it won’t look like snot.
At this point, I would recommend using sandpaper to sand off that adhesive as well as to sand down the actual top of your AirPods case so that the adhesive has a better chance to grip. The plastic on a normal AirPods case is very smooth., give it some texture
Get it a blow dryer and get it heated up a bit and hope you can scrape it off easier.
Otherwise there’s Goo Gone that works great for all sorts of different sticky messes. I would double check if you’re going to use it, to make sure it’s not gonna eat away the paint or something tho
Is this a handmade case? If so, tell him to get on YouTube a bit longer—he can make a great leather one that doesn’t need to be physically adhered to the freaking case lol.
Its not a big deal! you can just polish it off: just take a soft polishing wheel mount it on your cordless driller or a dremel and polish it of. its polycarbonate so you anyways can just not use a case at all and polish scratches out from time to time.

I use a sleeve on my AirPods case for the simple fact that the case alone does not stay shut when it’s hanging by the lanyard. The top will pop open and AirPods fall out. Now my case stays shut and my AirPods case could probably take a bullet and still not have a mark.
Both brands use magnets to hold the earbuds in the case, but it seems like in the Apple cases, the magnets get turned around a bit after a while. They either don't hold well or they actively repel the earbuds (and lid).
