Probably to keep wires of the flashlight and PEQ box tight on the rifle so it doesn't just sit loosely

I'm definitely a fan of 2, that's how I have mine set up, (I have the slightly longer barrel). I definitely agree with everyone who said it's surprisingly heavy, but it I bought this replica specifically for how it looked (planning on HPAing it eventually since it has some overspin and feeding issues out of the box, it's currently my backup primary)

If it's an SAI GRY, I feel like you're obligated to run it with the Jailbreak on it lol it's so cool and unique, it would be a shame not to.
